The success is going to bring us together, and we are going to start by all putting America first.
We have to put our country first for at least a period of time.
We have to fix it because together we can truly make America great again for all Americans.
So, I want to just tell you what a great honor this is.
I want to thank you.
I will not let you down.
America's future will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer, and stronger than it has ever been before.
God bless you, and God bless America.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
Young man, there's a place you can go, I'll say young man.
When you're short on your door, you can't stay there.
And I'm sure you will find many ways to have a good time.
It's for the state of the PMCA.
It's fun to stay in the fight, CNP.
They have everything under middle tour.
You can never voice.
It's for the standard.
It's for the standard.
You can get yourself leave.
You can have a good meal.
You can do whatever you feel.
Young man.
If you listen to me, I'll say you're in.
What if you wanna be?
I'll say your man.
You can make million dreams, but you've got to know.
This won't be no man.
Does it all by himself?
I'm a young man.
Put your bottle shelf and just go there to the YMCA.
I'm too familiar.
It's for the standpoint.
This is C-SPAN's continuing coverage of campaign 2024 at this hour.
Former President Trump is now slated to become the 47th President of the United States.
After winning 277 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press, the Senate will go over to Republican control as of next year.
The control of the House is yet to be determined.
For the next five hours, we'll ask you to call us and tell us what your thoughts are about these elected results that are taking place, including former President Trump becoming the 47th President of the United States, president-elect technically.
And here's how you can call us this morning and give us your thoughts.
202-748-8920.
If you support Vice President Harris, 202-748-8921.
If you support the former president, the president-elect, if you supported other candidates this time around, it's 202-748-8922.
And if you want to text us your thoughts this morning about these election results that we will tell you throughout the course of our morning together, 202-748-89203-8903.
Of course, you can always post on our social media sites on Facebook.
That's facebook.com slash C-SPAN.
And on X, that's at C-SPAN.
Joining us for the five hours today to give you election information throughout the morning is C-SPAN's John McCartle.
Good morning, Pedro.
For viewers who may just be waking up to look at results, here's how it went down this morning.
Donald Trump became president-elect Donald Trump once again just after 5.30 a.m. Eastern Time.
That's when the Associated Press called the Badger State of Wisconsin for Donald Trump.
It's 10 electoral votes, putting him over the 270 needed to win.
Taking a look at the map, there's still four states out there left to call.
That includes Michigan and Arizona and Nevada and Alaska.
If Donald Trump sweeps all of those and he's ahead in all four right now, he'll win more electoral votes in this election cycle than he did when he won in 2016.
Want to show viewers some of the headlines that they're waking up to online.
First from the political media, from the right, it's Bright Part.
The headline, Trump Towers, comeback of the century, historic victory for the former president.
Democracy Restored is what they write to the Huffington Post and the left.
The nightmare returns is their headline.
Trump elected president and Republicans take the Senate.
Here's one more for you from Punch Bowl News this morning calling it a Trump quake rocking Washington.
Trump's stunning evisceration of the blue wall and Vice President Kamala Harris's underperformance in all corners of the country has ushered in a new era for U.S. politics, they write.
It's a dramatic shift rightward.
And this one from the Wall Street Journal this morning.
Donald Trump elected the 47th president.
The former president is the first in over a century to reclaim the White House after losing it, referring back to Grover Cleveland, who was both the 22nd and 24th presidents back in the late 1880s and the mid-1890s.
And then focusing on the Senate, this is Roll Call and their headline this morning.
Republicans claim the Senate majority outright.
There is a picture of Bernie Moreno.
He will be the next U.S. Senator from Ohio.
He beat Sherrod Brown in that state.
Republicans claiming Ohio, knocking off Sherrod Brown, claiming Montana, the Associated Press calling that this morning, knocking off John Tester in Montana.
You can see the Senate map here.
And also Republicans earlier in the evening yesterday claiming the open seat in West Virginia, more than enough seats to take the Senate majority.
They have 52 right now.
They're ahead in three other contests.
Could be up to 55 or more seats in the next Senate.
And then if you go to the House elections, we still don't know who will be in control of the House come next Congress.
There are still 57 races to be called.
But if you're looking at the math, the Democrats needed to flip four seats, a net gain of four seats, I should say, to take the House.
Right now, Republicans have a net gain of three seats.
And again, plenty of races left to be called, plenty of competitive races on the West Coast that we're waiting for.
So we don't know who will control the House in the next Congress.
But we do know a lot as of this morning.
John McCartle, thank you very much.
On your screen, we will give you information about key races and results coming in.
Also, the balance of power that you'll see on the left side of the screen.
We'll show you that all morning.
By the way, you can always go to our website at c-span.org, our enhanced campaign 2024 site, which not only gives you the results of the presidential election, but as John was talking about, those House and Senate races, how they're breaking down.
You can even go granular in the sense that you can go to the map, look at a specific state, see where votes are coming in, and other information too.
That will be available to you at c-span.org and updated throughout the course of the morning.
202-748-8920.
For supporters of Vice President Harris, for supporters of President-elect Trump, 202-748-8921.
202-748-8922.
For others, if you want to text us this morning, you can do that at 202-748-8903.
Starting us off this morning, Regina in Maryland, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Good morning.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
First, I'd like to thank you for the opportunity to have my voice heard this morning.
I am so proud of what Kamala Harris did.
She was a class act.
And I cannot say that about the president-elect, but in hindsight, we all know that these things must occur before Christ's second coming.
So we must live with the decision.
We must accept it.
And we must brace ourselves for the terror that this country deserves by voting him back into the White House.
Have a great day.
That's Regina from Maryland.
Cheyena is joining us from Georgia, one of those battleground states that went to former President Trump last night, a supporter of the president-elect.
Cheyenna, good morning.
Good morning.
Thank you so much.
I'm so glad that Trump made it and God did spare his life for everything that he has done.
So I do thank Trump for being in office today.
That's Cheyenne there in Georgia.
Like I said, some of you responding to our socials.
This is Jennifer Jones this morning saying, what a national embarrassment.
Enjoy, reap what you sow, America.
George Boyce saying that thank you, true Americans, for President Trump's great victory.
You saved our country from the communist Democrats who are destroying our great country.
This is one of the greatest days in American history.
Prayers do work.
Don Bean saying, today a nation is laid to rest as the decline into a dictatorship begins.
And then Ron Victor, thank you, God.
Thank you, Pennsylvania.
Thank you, Georgia.
Thank you, Wisconsin.
Again, listing off some of those key battleground states won by the president-elect in last night's election.
Let's hear from James in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
On our line for those who supported others.
James, hello.
Yeah, hello.
Thank you for taking my call.
Yeah, I didn't, I don't support Harris or Trump.
I actually voted for Jill Stein.
But you see, the media only gave just Trump or Harris, Trump or Harris.
No, they didn't show nobody else.
You know, and I don't like, I think Trump is a very corrupt man.
He's going to be able to pardon himself now instead of being, he's not going to be able to, you know, get convicted.
He's just going to be able to pardon himself instead of legalizing drugs and getting fentanyl putting it in the hands of the good people.
They're just going to keep it illegal and keep fighting a stupid drug war.
And it's going to just make things worse.
Well, back to your original comment.
Why did you support Jill Stein?
Because she's just like, I've just seen her before.
She had a couple good issues.
You know what I mean?
And I don't, it's just like, they do a little bit of good to do a bunch of evil.
So Trump is going to do a little bit of good, and then he's going to do a bunch of evil.
You'll see.
Okay.
Thank you.
Jack is up next.
He's in Maryland, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Good morning.
Hey, good morning.
Can't say I'm not profoundly disappointed, but apparently you can start an insurrection, steal government secrets, and if you display enough hatred against immigrants and other people, you can be re-elected president.
How strong do you think Vice President Harris's campaign was?
I think she did the best she could with the time she had.
I personally don't think she was the strongest possible candidate we could have put out front, but considering the circumstances with what happened with Joe Biden that first debate, I think the Democratic Party panicked a little bit.
Rightfully so, if I'm being honest.
So I think she was the best and most logical choice, given the circumstances.
I don't think she was the best representative to communicate the Democratic platform.
She was not great at interviews.
I could see what some of the issues were with the other side pointing out just the way she communicated.
It wasn't clear.
So she didn't paint the best picture for her campaign and what she was trying to communicate.
Although I thought she had a lot of things to campaign on that she just failed to do.
Okay.
That's Jack there in Maryland.
Let's hear from Minnesota.
This is Mark, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
I would just like to congratulate the Democrats for running a pathetically bad candidate so as to get Adolf Hitler elected president.
Caller, I'll leave you there and we'll go back to John McCartney with more reaction.
Reaction, Pedro, from world leaders coming in this morning.
This is the headline from the Hill newspaper.
World Leaders Congratulating Donald Trump on his election win.
Let me just take you through some of the tweets and comments.
President Emmanuel Macron of France, congratulations, President Donald Trump.
Ready to work together as we did for four years with your convictions and mine with respect and ambition for more peace and prosperity.
Prime Minister Modi of India, heartiest congratulations, my friend Donald Trump on your historic election victory.
As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.
More this morning from Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Great Britain.
Congratulations, President-elect Donald Trump on your historic election victory.
I look forward to working with you in the years ahead.
More, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying, dear Donald and Melania Trump, congratulations on history's greatest comeback.
Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.
This is a huge victory, he writes.
And one more, this from President Vlodymir Zelensky of Ukraine saying, congratulations to Donald Trump on his impressive election victory.
I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the victory plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Some world leaders writing early this morning after it became clear that Donald Trump was going to be the 47th president of the United States.
That's reaction from world leaders.
Again, reaction from you.
Roy and Georgia are aligned for supporting others.
Good morning.
Yeah, I'd like to say something about an earlier gentleman that said putting up a weak Democratic opponent to Donald Trump.
I disagree.
Apparently, he was pro-Democratic.
And she had three months.
She did the best she could.
But I would like to say, I'm a Republican by heart, but I'm happy that people voted.
And this is, you know, this is what we do.
It's what we have.
Roy, it says that you're supporting other candidates.
Which candidate did you vote for?
Excuse me?
It says you're calling in on the line that for those who voted for other candidates, which candidate did you vote for?
I voted a write-in candidate.
Why a write-in versus the options you had otherwise?
Because I believe that it has become, as the independent and the green party, I believe it has become too just, it's just money and division that drives the two parties.
Something needs changed.
Okay, let's hear from Brock.
Brock in New Jersey, supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi there.
Hey, I'm definitely disappointed like most Democrats.
But I mean, I want to say congratulations, Trump.
But I believe that Joe Biden is to blame.
He did not prepare Harris for success the whole time.
The border issue.
It's the border, stupid.
All these people have come here and taken over.
And you can't not see it every day.
I feel so sorry for the women who feel like their rights have been trampled on, and they're really scared right now.
I really want to continue to pray for them.
Also pray for all the trans people who feel scared out there.
You know, all the people who continue to feel like they just have no way up.
But listen, this is clearly we realize what this country is about.
Get your money.
Get yours now because the people that come here, they're going to get theirs and they're going to come up.
And it doesn't matter if you have allegiance to this country.
Just get your money.
I'm really nervous about Elon Musk with so much control.
They're already, you know, into our internet, into our personal lives.
And I just don't want him to have as much access as I feel like he already has in control.
You know, JD Vance is going to be president soon.
That is another trip.
But again, get your money.
Okay.
Get your money.
Okay.
That's Brock there in New Jersey.
Again, if you go to our C-SPAN website, just to show you that front page map where it takes a look at the United States when it comes to the presidential election, 277 electoral votes currently for former President Trump, making him the president-elect, 224 for Kamala Harris.
He'll show you the states that went for the various candidates and some of the states that are still tabulating.
If you tap the website, it shows you what's taking place in that state.
And as far as the amount of votes counts and who's getting the most there, that's a lot of information.
Other information, too, there, including a section for ballot initiatives.
A lot of information there.
If you want to do that while you're watching the results and hearing the reaction during the course of the morning, again, five hours today that you'll have a chance to call in and give us your thoughts on the events of yesterday.
Let's hear from Ann in Florida, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Yes, this is Amin Ray Cook.
I'm a 27-year Air Force veteran, and I'm thrilled that President Trump has won.
I am highly concerned about the immigration problem.
I worked with software engineering, so I was highly concerned about the cyber issue, and Elon's going to handle that.
I saw a lot of medical problems happening in the country, and I'm so happy that Bobby's going to handle that.
We are going to have the greatest country we've ever had, and all the overbearing government interference with the FBI and the CIA is going to end.
I worked in electronic warfare for 27 years.
I do know what I'm talking about.
And to the guy that said, go get your money while you can, no, we are a capitalist country.
It's not about getting your money.
It's what can you do for this country.
That's all I got.
Ed is up next.
He's in New Jersey.
For those who supported others, he's calling in.
Ed, hello.
Ed O'Donnell, there were many good third-party candidates for president.
I was one of them, first Colgate University graduate to run for president.
But I want to ask you in the news media today to deal with some of the many other issues which were not discussed by the two major candidates.
There are a lot of important issues that we need to discuss as we wrap up the election year.
Such as what?
Helping our workers, construction workers, bus drivers, sanitation workers, many workplaces, a lot of dust, dirt, grease, grime, and mold, many workplaces, mean bosses, mean workers.
We've got to do higher pay, higher benefits.
We've got to do more to help our workers.
From Linda in California, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi there.
Hi, how are you doing?
Thank you.
I had two issues.
First one is I just wanted to inform people that no one seems to be aware of this.
My parents came from Russia in the 1950s.
First thing a dictator says is the media is the enemy because they don't want them to hear the news.
Second of all, I'm really concerned about veterans now because in the program 2025, they're going to take away a lot of their benefits.
My husband is an ALS, disabled, 100% disabled right now from Vietnam.
And I'm afraid we're going to lose all our benefits.
So the veterans better be all worried about it.
He's going to ruin the military.
So Linda, tell me your thoughts on the vice president's performance in this election.
I'm sorry, what?
Tell me your thoughts on the vice president's performance in this election.
The vice president before, I'm sorry, I can't hear you.
How well did you think Vice President Harris did in running her campaign?
Oh, how do I feel she did?
I really think she did with a lot of class.
I don't think she insulted people the way he did.
He's also a man who walked in on teenage girls when they were nothing at the pageant.
I would have had him in jail for that.
All right, and a supporter of former President Trump, now president-elect in Connecticut.
This is Curtis.
Hello.
Hey, how are you doing?
First of all, I want to say thank you for this opportunity.
For everyone, first of all, I'm a pastor.
I own a church in Connecticut.
And for everyone who's out there calling Trump racist and all this stuff, listen, the bottom line is this.
Harris and the Biden administration, they want to let transgenders play in women's sports.
That's not cool with me.
I raised six kids, one girl, five boys.
Two of my sons are officers.
And my granddaughters are now growing up.
Listen, God loves, God loves each and every one of us.
John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son.
So God loves them.
He just hates the sin.
So I want to congratulate Trump on a wonderful job.
Now, for Harris, she don't even know politics.
She couldn't answer questions.
But I come to understand that the problem is that a lot of black people wanted to make history.
And I'm not about making history.
I'm about making the country great again.
And I believe Trump is going to make our country great again.
He's going to close up the borders.
Amen.
He's going to do a lot of things for our country that is needed.
Do you think he should do anything differently than he did from his first term in office?
His first term in office was phenomenal.
Trump is for the American people.
First of all, let's make that clear.
He's for the American people.
And all this lies about him and people are being deceived by not being in prayer, not seeking God.
Sure.
But do you think he should do anything differently this time around?
No, I don't think he should do anything different.
I think what he should do is continue to get our country back where it needs to be at, secure the borders.
He's not racist against people.
Listen, if you're going to come to America, come over here the right way, not the wrong way.
So he's doing what a president's supposed to do.
And who was praying?
Okay, that's Curtis there in Connecticut.
Let's again visit the Peach State of Georgia.
This is David, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Hey, good morning.
I really hope when the dust settles and the Democratic Party looks back at this, they realize what a mistake it was for the turn to the right in the last few weeks or the last month of the election.
With Gaza already being a weak point for Harris and with a lot of the frustrations from 2016 that got Trump elected in the first place being people disillusioned with, I mean, the neoliberal consensus and especially something like the Iraq War and our forever wars.
Buddy buddying with Liz Cheney and Dick Cheney and sending Richie Torres and Bill Clinton to Michigan.
I just don't understand what the thought process was there.
And I hope that the lesson that's learned is 2020, you made a pact with the Bernie wing of the party and you had record turnout and the most votes for any candidate.
2016 and 2024, you run somebody who's closer truly to center right and you got stomped.
So I just don't understand.
I don't understand what the thought process was.
Okay.
That's David there in Georgia, one of those battleground states that was closely watched in the lead up to yesterday, President-elect Trump winning that state yesterday.
That was determined as far as his future.
The future of the Senate determined as well.
And with that, more names that you'll see heading to the Senate floor after next year.
And with a rundown of where the Senate is right now, here is John McCartnell.
Yeah, Pedro, right now, with several races left to call, Republicans will control the Senate with 52 seats so far.
They could increase that majority in the next Congress to the mid-50s.
Let me just run through the outstanding races and where they are right now, starting in the all-important Keystone state of Pennsylvania.
Republican Dave McCormick is ahead there with 49% of the vote.
Senator Bob Casey trailing with 48% of the vote.
And most of the vote is in.
97% is in.
Take you to Michigan.
It's Mike Rogers, the Republican, running there, former member of Congress against Alyssa Slotkin, the Democrat.
And it is dead heat head to head, 48.5% to 48.5%.
Literally just a couple tens of thousands of votes separating the two.
So this one could go a while in the Wolverine state of Michigan.
I want to take you to another one of those battleground states, Wisconsin.
It was Wisconsin that put Donald Trump over the top.
The Senate race there, still not decided.
Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin still trying to hold on to her seat there, 49.3% To Eric Hovedy's Republican, 48.6%.
It's 99% there, so only 1% left to come in.
So we'll see where this lands.
The Associated Press still not calling that race.
Arizona, Ruben Gallego trying to take over that seat, the Democrat with 50.4% against Kerry Lake, the Republican, at 47.7%.
But we've got a ways to go in Arizona.
Just 60% of the vote has been counted there.
Nevada, the other state, Senator Jackie Rosen, the Democrat, trying to hold on to her seat, and it's neck and neck there as well.
Sam Brown is the Republican, 84% of the vote counted.
Maine is the other race that hasn't been called Senator Angus King, well ahead, the Independent there.
It's a four-way race, though.
His closest competition is the Republican in that race.
72% of the votes counted.
It seems likely that Senator Angus King will hold on to his seat, but the Associated Press still has not called that race.
With Republicans in control of the Senate in the next Congress, the United States senators, the GOP, United States senators, already tweeting out their congratulations both to Donald Trump and to the winning candidates and senators elect.
That includes Senator Steve Daines saying congratulations to Tim Sheehee in Montana, Montana's newest United States Senator, saying, Looking forward to serving together to fight for our Montana way of life, the two Republican senators from Montana in the next Congress.
This from Rand Paul of Kentucky, the Republican saying, congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump.
I look forward to working with all those elected for limited constitutional government.
And one more, Senator Chuck Grassley saying, in the Republican majority, I'll be hard at work fighting to restore law and order and making America safe again, especially through my leadership on the Judiciary Committee.
We will hit the ground running on January 3rd.
The Iowa Republican senator promising that.
Those are just some of the tweets coming out of Congress this morning.
And here are some of the Facebook posts coming from you as you're watching along with us.
This is Julia Motzer with just two words, landslide baby, and I believe icons representing the fact of a red wave of sorts.
This is Marsha Dorn's.
Democracy is dead.
Social Security, Medicare, Head Start, Chip, Healthcare will be gone.
Hate and ignorance are here.
Kathy Taylor Blay, great day for our country.
We hope we can fix the mess our country is in and get us out of wars.
And then Sheila Miller from Facebook.
God help us all with the text code shaking my head.
Again, the way you can reach out to us on social media, facebook.com/slash C-SPAN, you can post on X at C-SPAN.
You can always call us on the lines, 2-202-748-8920.
If you support Vice President Harris, 202-748-8921.
If you support President-elect Trump on our others line, if you supported other candidates and voted for other candidates, 202-748-8922.
Text us at 202-748-8903.
George is next.
He's in Florida, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
George in Florida.
Hello.
Yes, sir.
Can you hear me?
Yep, you're on.
Okay, good.
Sir, first of all, I'm a U.S. veteran from the Air Force, a police retired from Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Lauder Hill.
And I would like to say that I don't understand how the Democrats cannot have, or they have a media because they don't remember.
I guess they weren't going forward and pay more gas.
When Donald Trump was a president, we were paying less than $3, $250, $260, or even $185.
Now we're paying $3, $4 for gas.
That happened when Biden went into office.
They forgot that Obama flew $500 million and gave it to the Iranian government.
Now they're going to use that money against Israel, against other countries, other countries in the Middle East.
They forgot about what Bush did making a false investigation in Iraq for what?
For oil?
Because he said there was weapons of mass destruction.
So how does that all deal with yesterday then?
Sir, I support Donald Trump because he's here for the right reason.
And he had, the four years that he was in, he helped us, the VA, he got rid of 11,000 people that were corrupted within the VA system.
Now we have a great and amazing system with the VA.
People have, forget what they had while Donald Trump was in office.
Now, how can someone have preferred Biden when he was making money for his own personal use from Ukraine from China?
Okay, that's George there in Florida.
Let's hear from Rudy in California, supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hello.
Yes, good morning, Pedro.
Didn't go as I planned.
But the campaign that was ran was of fear and misogyny.
And as an older black man, I am just like so surprised that the younger black men, Hispanic men, and even white men, that they would have that attitude.
So basically, next time a presidential race is made, the Democrats, us Democrats, might think about that.
You know, just run a campaign of fear and don't worry about anything else.
God help us.
Thank you, Pedro.
Chanel is from Florida, a supporter of the president-elect.
Good morning.
Go ahead.
You're next up.
I am ecstatic, and I have news for the Democrats and their voters.
One of the reasons you people lost is all of the name-calling, all of the berating, all of the indignant comments that were made towards MAGA supporters and Trump supporters.
I'm an African-American woman, and as early as this morning, just putting on Facebook, woo-hoo, we won winning Wednesday, here comes somebody else calling me a sellout.
I don't owe the Democrats anything, and I don't understand how the Democrat Party thinks they had a winning strategy, putting illegal aliens ahead of us in hotel rooms, free health care, EBT, open borders.
And how do they think that people with common sense really believed in all this garbage that they were stewing?
And the Democrats talk about, we're talking about fear.
No, we weren't.
It's the Democrats.
Oh, he's going to take away your health care in 2025.
Oh, and your abortion rights.
All of these things that they claim he's going to do.
Oh, and one of them told me this morning, well, this is going to be the last election ever.
He's never going to leave.
Who is the one filling your head with all this fear-mongering garbage?
It isn't the Republicans.
It's the Democrats.
And at the end of the day, we're tired of the race card.
We're tired of the pandering.
Everything in the Democrat Party is race, race, race.
I'm personally sick of it.
And they got exactly.
Okay.
Let's hear from Bill.
Bill in Maryland, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Yes.
Hi.
Good morning.
Congratulations to President Trump.
I did vote for Harris, and I think she did a good job given what she was given.
And I think she was blamed for some things which she was not responsible for, and she could not break away and move from her role as vice president.
And one last thing I'd like to indicate is that Our country has burnt bridges and established barriers.
And my hope is that we will come together as Americans, not just Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, but as Americans come together and rebuild these bridges and tear down these walls and truly, as Americans, collectively make America great again.
Okay, Bill and Maryland, again, we'll continue on with your calls.
Call us on the line that best represents you.
If you've called in the last 30 days, hold off from doing so today.
It was in the early hours of this morning that former President Trump went before his supporters.
This before the official call of the Electoral College went to his advantage.
But he talked to his supporters and talked a little bit about what he envisions at the time as the next president of the United States.
Here's former President Trump from early this morning.
Well, I want to thank you all very much.
This is great.
These are our friends.
We have thousands of friends in this incredible movement.
This was a movement like nobody's ever seen before.
And frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time.
There's ever been anything like this in this country and maybe beyond.
And now it's going to reach a new level of importance because we're going to help our country heal.
We're going to help our country heal.
We have a country that needs help and it needs help very badly.
We're going to fix our borders.
We're going to fix everything about our country.
We made history for a reason tonight and the reason is going to be just that.
We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible and it is now clear that we've achieved the most incredible political thing.
Look what happened.
Is this crazy?
But it's a political victory that our country has never seen before.
Nothing like this.
I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president.
And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and your future.
Every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body.
I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve.
This will truly be the golden age of America.
That's what we have to have.
There was more to that from the early morning hours of today.
And if you want to go to our website at c-span.org, you can see those comments, including the comments of the vice president-elect JD Vance.
And also, you can access those through our app at C-SPAN now.
Let's hear from James in Maryland, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
I would like to, I voted for Harris, voted by mail, and I would like to remind all the people that supported the vice president who were feeling a little low this morning.
Remember, next January 6th, she will perform one last official duty.
She will certify the electors of her opponent, just like Al Gore did in 2000, Mondale did in 1980.
That's not an easy thing to do.
So I want all the people that supported Harris, watch her.
She won a seat at the table.
She lost the election, but she won a seat at the table.
A first woman, African American, and watch her on January 6th.
Watch how she performs and constitutionally and graciously.
And watch her and be proud.
And thank you for the opportunity to speak.
Okay, James in Maryland giving us his thoughts.
Again, we've been telling you about the other races and things to look for after Election Day.
One of those is the future of the House and who will control power in the House of Representatives.
With more on that, here's John McCartney.
And Pedro, yeah, we may not know for several days now the House razor-thin margins for a House makeup of 435 seats, all of them on the line.
Some 57 races have yet to be called.
And remember, Democrats need a net gain of four seats to take over the House.
Right now, as it stands, Republicans have net three seats tonight, trying to look around the map to understand what's still at play.
Sometimes it's better to take these things into bite-sized chunks.
So one way to look at it is to look at four seats in California where Republican members of the House were trying to defend their seats, trying to hold on to them in races that were rated by the Cook Political Report and other race rating agencies as pure toss-ups heading into Election Day.
So let me take you through four of those, Pedro, and you can see where they stand.
Democrats were hoping to perhaps sweep all of them in California and a blue wave out there.
Right now, in the 22nd District of California, with 56% of the vote in, it's David Valladayo ahead by 10 percentage points against his Democratic challenger there.
If you head to the 27th District of California with 67 percent in, Republican Congressman Mike Garcia ahead by a little over two points in that race, about two and a half points there trying to hold on to his seat.
You head out to the 41st District of California, and it's Ken Calvert who's trailing, but just barely by a little more than half a percentage point against Democrat Will Rollins trying to take that seat.
And one more, it's the 45th District of California out there in the Golden State.
And Congresswoman Michelle Steele, the Republican, trying to hold on to her seat, she's ahead in her race against Democrat Derek Tran by about five points there.
So if those races hold, Democrats won't get the sweep of those California districts.
And again, remember, Democrats need to net four seats.
Right now, Republicans have net three with some 57 races yet to be called.
And then one more tweet to show you.
This is Mike Johnson expected to be Speaker again, Mike Johnson in the next House.
This was his tweet from 2.13 a.m. Eastern.
There is hope and mourning in America again.
Donald Trump is now our president-elect, chosen by the American people for such a time as this.
He went on to say the citizens of our great country used their voices to decisively reject four more years of Harris's open borders and high crime, increased cost of living, weaponized government, dangerous radical woke ideology and weakness on the world stage, demanding instead a return to common sense, peace, and prosperity.
And the statement went on from there.
Some of you sending us texts this morning.
This is from Edward in New Jersey.
How will history record the time?
I'm more than this pleas.
Will Trump work to raise the federal minimum wage, work to make sure housing is available to all?
The war between Israel and everyone else.
Convicted felons, especially nonviolent drug offenders, need restitution from this government.
And then from Hawaii, this is Stephen saying, all praises to God, Trump 2024, but this is just the beginning of his problems with Democrats and the globalists.
Time to fix our country.
Again, texting us, you can do that.
202-748-8903.
That number, if you want to text us your thoughts this morning.
As always, you can call us on the phone lines there.
Pick the one that best represents you.
Logan from Georgia, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Hello, can you hear me?
Yep, you're on.
Yes, sir.
I'd just like to say this is my first time registering to vote, but I didn't get able to before I was there, but so I'm glad.
But I'm glad, Joe, I mean, Donald Trump, Lauren, because I'm young.
It's a shame that I got to say this.
If you look closely, North Korea, did you see he's the first ever president to fly over there and then not just go over there, work a deal out with him to where he didn't ever try to shoot a duke at us again?
But once Joe Biden got in and the Russians started making in with these Ukraine wars two days before the election, what's he do?
Send 75,000 troops that have North Korean troops over there to Russia two days before the election.
All right?
Just like this, the Taliban leader.
Back when everybody was having to deal with the Taliban people touching the American citizens, he had a translator that spoke their language, showed up in his own country, once again, the only president to have balls to go into their country unguarded and sit there and talk to the Taliban leader.
They have enough balls to put fear to his heart and show a picture of his house of his wife and kids and say, you touch your hair on another American, I will blow up you and your family.
Okay, let's hear from Marion.
Marion in Georgia as well from Grove Town, supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Well, hi.
I'm very sad today.
I do.
I was a Harris supporter, but I do want to congratulate President Trump.
He won fair and square.
I do want to remind the Republicans and everybody who voted for Trump that they now have the Supreme Court, the Senate, and it looks like the House and the presidency.
So the next four years, the age of golden or whatever Trump said, do not blame Democrats for anything that goes on in the next four years because you guys have it all.
So if you're not happy, you better look at your own party because you have it all now.
So you better make it because it's going to, if it, well, you know what I mean.
Anybody else?
So, Marion, let me ask you this before you go.
Were you surprised that your state went to the president-elect?
A little bit.
I thought Harris would do better, you know, in Georgia, but just because I hadn't seen as many Trump signs in my area.
But I just was very, I was pretty blown away by the amount of support Trump had across the country.
And I mean, that's what the people have spoken.
And that's, you know, that's the way our democracy works.
We, you know, we're not going to go back in there and start screaming and yelling that we were, it's rigged and we're, you know, we're not going to do that.
He won, and we accept it and hope for the best.
Also, let me ask you, how satisfied were you with the voting system this time around in your state?
For me, very satisfied.
They did a great job.
I went in.
They were friendly, helpful, and professional in Grove Town.
I was very, you know, I couldn't have been more pleased.
Where is Grove Town in the state, by the way?
It's right, it's sort of a suburb of Augusta, Georgia.
Okay, Marion there giving us her thoughts from one of those battleground states that were looked at carefully during the course of this campaign.
Let's hear from Elizabeth.
Elizabeth joins us from Illinois, a supporter of President-elect Trump.
Elizabeth, good morning.
Good morning.
It's a great morning, actually.
I'm proud to be an American, and I supported President Trump-elect because of his border policies.
I'm very happy for all of those who have lost their children or their family member to illegal aliens that have murdered and raped their loved ones.
I'm hoping President-elect Trump gets them out of the country as fast as possible.
I hope he's successful at doing that.
And I think that Vice President Harris won, we would have been in a lot of trouble.
So I'm really grateful that this is the outcome.
This is Elizabeth there in Illinois giving us her thoughts.
We'll hear next from Rick Rick in New Jersey, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Good morning.
I did support Vice President Harris, but only because I felt there was no choice.
What I'm curious about is how the history will be written years from now.
Will it go back as far as the 60s and 70s when the hippie culture came alive?
Some good came from that, but also a lot of disrespect for law and order.
There also was a time when the two-income household became prevalent.
I think this contributed to a lack of parenting.
And by parenting, I mean teaching honesty and integrity.
Maybe this was substituted with the winning at any cost mentality.
Rick, when you say that you had no other choice regarding the vice president, are you one to think that President Biden should have stayed in the race or another option should have been given to you?
Can you elaborate on that?
Well, I think there should have been a primary and she should have been forced to earn the position.
I don't think she was.
I think she was handed it.
Ultimately, she was handed it because of her race and her gender.
I mean, that's why I think she was chosen by Biden to begin with.
I think this is a lot of this is Biden's fault.
He should have gotten out a lot earlier, but he just didn't.
Okay, Rick there in New Jersey there.
Let's hear from Steve.
Steve in Florida, supporter of the president-elect.
Good morning.
Good morning.
You guys are doing a great job.
Listen, the press has to totally regroup and rethink.
I mean, it's a massive group think for Camela there.
We don't want open borders.
You know, we don't want sky-high inflation.
You don't defund the police.
Right now, in the liberal cities, you're going to need the police.
The thing about it is this: people didn't believe the press what they said.
You know, they just didn't believe it.
And you don't give 14 million votes to somebody that didn't earn it.
I mean, that's anti-democracy.
That's not democracy.
So the squirrels have spoken last night.
You know, we just want, we don't want men and women's sports.
You know, we just, and girls' sports.
You know, it's not right.
And we just want fairness and all the lawfare and the censorship by government on social media.
You couldn't speak about COVID or against it.
That's not the American way.
You know, Elon had to buy Twitter for $44 billion just for free speech to exist.
We're not living under European laws where they can jail you for what you say, either side.
So even the Democrat Hamas supporters, but the bottom line is the liberal, the coastal elites do not control their hard left.
And Americans saw it, and they said they're going to get rid of our right to speak.
You know, they're going to, even Camela said they had the right to come in your door to inspect how your guns are stored.
I mean, that is none American at all, and we're not taking that.
All right, let's go to Diane.
Diane's in Ohio, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
I'm a little tired because I worked the polls yesterday.
And when I did wake up, I've been crying for the last three hours.
I can see we're going to go into a recession.
With its warriors, we will be in a depression.
We're going to be a third world country.
Thanks to Trump.
People have been misinformed about almost everything.
And I fault the idea that people were listening.
90% of drugs, the fentanyl comes from border people from America.
United States are bringing in the drugs, people.
Our food is going to be so high.
All I can think of now is I've got to protect my children and grandchildren.
I'm sorry, Petro.
I got to hear you go.
Okay.
Diane there, you go ahead.
That's Diane from Ohio again.
Give us a call on the lines that best represent you to talk about the events of yesterday, the results that we've been showing you.
Again, on the main screen there, you'll see races and other vital information when it comes to the current state of the race, including the balance of power in the House and the Senate, the various contests on the House and Senate level, the various states where both president-elect now with 277 electoral votes to see where those future states that have yet to count all their ballots will fall.
All that is available to you there.
If you go to our website at c-span.org, you can find out a little bit more, not only about the races themselves, the ability to kind of look down and see where various counties went when it came to the president-elect and the vice president, where some of those House and Senate races currently stand.
A lot of ballot measures across the United States, too, several dealing with the topic of abortion.
You can see some of the results there.
That's all the information you can find there on that revamped C Campaign 2024 page.
If you want to check it out for yourself, and that's available to you at c-span.org.
Mike is next.
Mike in North Carolina, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Good morning.
Good morning, you and John and C-SPAN, and a great day in America again.
Yes, I'm just tickled to death that Donald Trump won again.
And it's just a demonization from Biden to the Democrats that called all of us trash, call all of us fascists and Nazis and all that stuff, which is pure garbage, which people got tired of it.
And the open border and the open borders and especially the transgender.
I know you got all these scales and all that stuff, and calling the Republican Party, the MAGA Party, racist and stuff.
And I like to see the breakdown of the people and the race that voted for Trump, the Hispanics, the blacks, the Asians, and the Jewish and the Muslims that voted for Trump because they main thing is the economy.
And when you spend almost a half a trillion dollars on illegal immigration from WIC to housing for them people that, you know, that come over here and expect everything free.
And one of the main things I hope Trump and now the majority when we have it in the Senate is if Mexico's new socialist woman president does not stop this flow from coming into our country because it comes, they got a lot smaller border on their country down in their south.
They can stop this flow of immigration.
And Mexico is controlled by the cartels.
Okay.
Okay.
That's Mike there in North Carolina briefly mentioning the economy.
Take this for what you will.
CNBC reporting this morning on their website that when it comes to the Dow Futures, which will open later on this morning, surging 1,100 points, also some other metrics, too, when it comes to Wall Street and how Wall Street is reacting from the news of yesterday regarding yesterday's election and the results there.
Let's hear from Larry.
Larry in California, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Hi, good morning.
Yeah, I served 20 years in the United States Smaring Corps.
I am so disgusted with America and ashamed of America.
Like that one guy said, you don't defund the police.
No, you beat them up.
Okay.
We beat up our cops, our police on January 6th, and this guy still got president.
I'm embarrassed of America.
I'm ashamed of America.
And you're going to get what you deserve.
I don't care what happens in the future of America, but it's not, it doesn't look good.
I'm the guy that predicted 9-11.
I'm predicting bad things for our country.
So good luck, America.
From Illinois on our line, for those who supported others in this election this time around, this is John from Crystal Lake, Illinois.
Good morning, Pedro.
Yeah, I voted for Claudio De La Cruz.
It was more of like an anti-genocide vote.
And I figured in Illinois, it'll be safe enough where I could vote my conscience more so than if it was in like a swing state.
But like the previous caller said, you know, I'm super disappointed in the way the rest of America thinks.
I mean, that's crazy that they're so willing to vote for a fascist and someone who's so clearly racist.
And a couple other callers just complaining about the border and trans and sports.
And that's really the reason why we call you guys Nazis is because of the all extreme ideology that you have.
So I guess these next four years are just going to be white knuckling it, I guess.
So hopefully he doesn't do anything super crazy.
But, you know, we didn't believe Hitler.
We needed all the before he did crazy things.
And we put ourselves in a position to be taking advantage of in a similar way.
John there in Illinois giving us his thoughts this morning on the results of the election.
As you can imagine, an election of any president over the four years will produce headlines.
Clearly, yesterday's events producing headlines as well.
And with a summary of those, here's John McCartle.
Pedro, yeah, let me take viewers through some of the headlines that Americans are waking up to this morning.
First from Donald Trump's hometown of New York, the New York Post, their headline, he's donned again.
Trump pulls off comeback of the ages with his election when the Wall Street Journal, also based in New York, Donald Trump is elected the 47th U.S. president.
The former president is the first in over a century to reclaim the White House after losing it.
The picture there of Donald Trump at his rally in Palm Beach, the reference is to Grover Cleveland, both the 22nd and 24th president of the United States.
Donald Trump will now be the 45th and 47th presidents of the United States.
The Las Vegas Sun, that swing state, Donald Trump wins the White House in a political comeback rooted in appeals to frustrated voters.
This from USA Today.
Trump reclaims the White House.
Donald Trump wins the presidency in a stunning political comeback.
He overcomes political obstacles to win his second term, including the 2020 loss, two impeachments, criminal conviction, and assassination attempts.
And then just want to read viewers the lead paragraph of the Associated Press story on Donald Trump's victory.
This is the Associated Press lead dated November 6, 2024, 7.53 a.m.
Donald Trump has been elected the 47th President of the United States.
An extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges, and survived two assassination attempts.
Let's hear from Victoria.
Well, before we do that, this is our first hour of a five-hour program today.
So for four more hours, we're going to hear from you.
And here's how you could reach out to us: 202-748-8920.
If you support Vice President Harris, 202748-8921.
If you are a supporter of the president-elect Donald Trump, if you supported others and voted for others, 202-748-8922.
And perhaps you want to text us your thoughts this morning on the results of the election.
202-748-8903 is how you do that.
If you want to reach to us on our socials, it's at C-SPAN on X.
And then Facebook is facebook.com/slash C-SPAN.
Victoria in Wisconsin, supporter of the president-elect.
She's in West Bend.
Victoria, you start off our second hour.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
I wanted to say that I proudly voted for President Trump again.
That's my third time voting for him.
I believe in him.
I would also like to say that I'm hearing all the comments from both sides, and I would challenge everybody to put forth an effort to be a good citizen, to be a good neighbor, to be a good person, and most importantly, to be a good American.
And that can be achieved by joining hands.
It doesn't matter to me if you're a Democrat, if you're a Republican, if you're an Independent.
What matters to me is that I'm an American, and it should matter to everybody else.
In Florida, this is Karma and Zephyr Hills, supporter of the vice president.
Good morning.
You're next.
Good morning.
I like to say I'm very disappointed, but I accept the results.
I'd like to say that economists have said that for every 500,000 immigrants that you put out of the country, 44 businesses will close.
One in four workers is an immigrant.
If you took big corporations and held them accountable for hiring illegal immigrants instead of just giving them fines and sending back the people that worked there, maybe all that would stop and people would start coming in more legally.
But until they fix the borders and make it to where they can't come across legally, it's going to be an issue for whoever's the president.
And I'd like to say to these pastors who were calling in and wanting to put God on people and Trump, the devil also has children being born every day from generation to generation.
So you got to keep that in mind by the way you treat other people.
Okay, Taydala in New York.
This is a supporter of the president-elect.
Yes, Bueno Días, Pedro.
Well, this is an amazing time in American history.
What my wish is President Trump learns from his experience, period.
President Trump, America has given him a second chance to rectify some of his behaviors and be remembered as a good person.
So my wish for him is America needs him.
Economy is stupid.
The immigration issue is just messed up.
And the world needs him.
One, to stop the war in Ukraine, to stop the bloodshed in the Middle East.
If he does these two things, he'll be remembered as one of the humble presidents.
I can say that Democrats beat themselves up by rushing Kamala rather than this gentleman resigned first so that Kamala gets an opportunity to run and she failed.
But America, there is a time for a woman president in America.
I do believe our girls, our sisters will not be disappointed.
There is a time for America to be one wonderful woman as a president.
And caller, if I may ask you, you referenced as far as the second time around behaviors that should change with President Trump.
What behaviors specifically should he change?
Number one, some of his words are very problematic for many people.
When he names immigrants or when he talks about opponents, like his opponents call him a Nazis and a fascist.
He's not a Nazis or a fascist.
But he should be an old man, respectful like Reagan, and then be like that one, a humble man.
Okay, that's Taydala there in New York.
Again, many of you calling us, some of you posting on X.
This is Steffi saying that not shedding a single tear, she starts looking forward to peace in the Middle East, $1.50 gas prices, zero illegal border crossings, no more crimes, no more men's and women's sports, lower prices and everything wrong with the country to be fixed.
Another viewer says, and it's going to get, starts with, oh, and it's only going to get worse.
Trump's not going to improve the economy.
He's going to trash it and blame Biden and Harris.
He'll say the cupboards were bare and he had to fix it.
Meanwhile, he's going to be handing out school voucher money to the next oligarchs.
Again, X is available to you if you want to post there at C-SPAN WJ is how you do that.
Andrea is next from Illinois, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hello there.
Good morning.
Good morning, everyone.
I am a Harris supporter.
I am a little bit disappointed this morning, but I am prepared to restrain.
And as one of the previous callers said, just be a good American.
I want everyone to know that in the next couple of years, you will have the opportunity to vote to reverse some of the things that you don't like in the first two years.
So again, I'm saddened by the fact that Harris lost.
But one of the callers, I want to piggyback off that.
We do need to maintain ourselves, respect each other, be good citizens, and I think that is the Democratic way.
I did not vote for Trump, but I did not like the border crisis in Illinois.
I'm an Illinois, and the budget right now is in crisis because there were so many hotels, camps, everywhere you turned.
Immigrants were all over the place.
I say that with the knowledge that as an African American, I did not come here by choice.
We all know the history of that.
The people, the immigrants that were here in Illinois, came by choice for whatever reason.
So I just want people to understand that part of it.
Okay.
Okay.
That Pennsylvania is where things for last night for the president-elect after winning that battleground state.
We'll hear from John.
He's in Turtle Creek.
Go ahead.
Good morning, Pedro and John.
I want to say good morning to John and good morning, America.
What a great day.
I live in Allegheny County, and I'm so ecstatic that he won Pennsylvania.
One message to the Democrats that are calling in.
The Hitler talk has got to stop.
If he was Hitler, he was already president.
And we would be living in a totally different world right now.
He is not Hitler.
He is not a fascist.
He's going to make this country great again.
And I really wish that people would quit calling in here and saying that.
The other thing is, is that everybody's saying that Kamala Harris is an African-American.
She's not African-American.
And that's why she lost the African-American vote.
Going around talking like you're black at churches offended black people.
You don't do that.
But, you know, it is a great day, Pedro.
I hope Democrats can get over this.
We have the Senate and the House probably, and he should be able to get a lot of things done.
So you guys have a great day, and thanks for the call.
John, there in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, giving us his thoughts.
It was last night at Howard University where the vice president was expected to address supporters there with the victory after things of the events of yesterday.
It was her president co-chair campaign, the co-chair of her campaign, Cedric Richmond, coming out speaking to those supporters at Howard University.
Here's what he had to say: Good evening, Howard.
Good evening, HU.
I want to say good evening to all of the Harris campaign, the campaign family.
Thank you for all that you have done.
Thank you for being here.
Thank you for believing in the promise of America.
We still have votes to count.
We still have states that have not been called yet.
We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken.
So you won't hear from the vice president tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow.
She will be back here tomorrow to address not only the HU family, not only to address her supporters, but to address the nation.
So thank you.
We believe in you.
May God bless you.
May God keep you and go HU and go Harris.
Thank you all.
That was from last night, the NBC affiliate here in Washington, D.C. reporting that indeed that the vice president expected to speak to those supporters at Howard University sometime today.
So look to watch for that as the day progresses on this day after Election Day, as we've been telling you not only about the results of the presidential race, but the results of the Senate races and also the House, too.
More on that update coming to you from John McCartle.
Pedro, and as viewers who have been watching know, the House is the only one that we don't know the answer to.
Republicans will control the Senate in the next Congress.
Republicans, Donald Trump, will control the White House.
The House still has 57 races to be called by the Associated Press.
Remember, all 435 seats are up.
Democrats would need a net gain of four seats in order to take the House.
As it stands right now, Republicans have netted three seats on the night, and this may take days until we know the results of all of those House races.
There's uncalled races from the East Coast to the West Coast.
Let me show you what Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the House, is focused on this morning just after 7 a.m.
And he was giving updates from the Empire State throughout the night, specifically focusing on the House.
But just after 7 a.m., he tweeted this.
Update from the battlegrounds in the Empire State.
Democrats have now flipped four Republican-held House seats in New York this year.
That referring back to special election races as well.
And he congratulated Josh Riley, the Democrat, on a critically important victory for the People's House.
Josh Riley running in the 19th district of New York.
We'll show you the numbers there.
He was declared the victor by the Associated Press with 98% reporting up by a full percentage point in his race in the 19th district.
That race has been called.
I want to also show you some of those other battleground states that Hakeem Jeffries was referring to in the Empire State of New York.
John Mannion in the 22nd district defeating Brandon Williams, the Republican incumbent congressman there.
And the spread is about 9 to 10 points in that race.
And then one more to show you from New York, this in the 4th district of New York.
It's close.
The Democrat Laura Gillen in the 4th district is up by just a few thousand votes over Congressman Anthony DiEsposito, the Republican there.
That race still has not been called by the Associated Press.
One more district in New York the Democrats were targeting.
That would be the 11th district of New York.
And Congresswoman Nicole Maliatakis holding on to her seat there.
There was some thought that Democrats could put that seat in play, but Andrea Morse, the Democrat, falling far short in that race.
That's just some of the House races that we've been focusing on throughout this cycle in New York.
Let's hear from Kim.
Kim's in California in Sacramento on our line for those who supported others.
Kim, hello there.
Hi, good morning.
You know, I'm a longtime colleague of C-SPAN.
I listen to you every day.
And of course, it's painful sometime to hear the racist remarks being a Latina in California, a revolutionary.
But I woke up this morning understanding exactly what time of day it is in America.
As always, capitalism won.
When you have trillionaires, Amazon, Tesla, all these corporations always end up winning.
You know, one of the biggest mistakes were made is that when you are watching a genocide happen in Gaza, in Congo, in Sudan, around this world, people are dying and starving.
You know, migration is on the move all over this world because of the natural disasters because we are killing our planet.
But nothing is different.
We will have to take care of ourselves.
We can think, you can put your hopes and that somebody, the government's going to save us.
They save themselves.
They work for taking care of the 1%.
It is still on the bottom on the right and the left.
We don't have a lot in between us that is different.
We're all trying to fight for a better life.
May Gaza forgive us for our sins.
May the world stop being so violent.
Liva Palestina.
Stay strong, my revolutionaries.
Okay, that's Kim there in California.
Let's hear from Tennessee.
Trina is there, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Hi.
Yes, I supported Harris.
I believed in a lot of her policies, whereas Trump didn't have any specific policies, just concepts.
And it is a sad day because people are now going to reap what they voted.
And I just pray that it is not going to be as bad as Donald Trump and Project 2025 says.
And I pray for those of us that are in the lower class and that all these migrants are not mistreated, that are here legally.
And that's all I have to say.
It is a sad day.
God bless everybody in the USA.
Millie in North Carolina, a supporter of Vice President Trump.
Hello there.
I'm sorry, not a supporter of President-elect Trump.
I apologize.
Go ahead, Millie.
Yes, I would like to say to all Democrats, there's no need to put a question where God has put a period.
Thank you.
What do you mean by that?
I mean, I believe that he was God's appointed one for this time.
Regardless of what people feel about him, he can still run this country the best.
Okay, Millie there in North Carolina.
If you followed the latter parts of the vice president's campaign as she headed toward Election Day, she brought forth a familiar Republican figure as part of her campaigning efforts.
We're hearing again from that figure now.
Here's John McCarter with more.
Liz Cheney, a former member of Republican House leadership, went on to be the co-chair of the January 6th Select Committee in that investigation, endorsed Kamala Harris.
This is her tweet from just about 10 minutes ago.
Pedro, I'll read it in its entirety.
Our nation's democratic system functioned last night, and we have a president, a new president elect.
All Americans are bound, whether we like the outcome or not, to accept the results of our elections.
We now have a special responsibility as citizens of the greatest nation on earth to do everything we can to support and defend our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that our institutions hold over those coming four years.
Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press, and those serving in our federal, state, and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.
Liz Cheney at 8.04 a.m. Eastern this morning.
Let's go to Corey.
Corey is in North Carolina, voted on, according to his colleagues, voted for others, supported others.
Corey in Concord, hello.
Hey, how are you doing today?
Yes, I supported others, but at the same time, Trump was the one I've voted for.
Not only because of that, because the border had to get the border under control.
At the same time, we spend a lot of money overseas.
We reduce focus on our money here in the United States.
Just to clarify, did you vote for another candidate or did you vote for the former president this time around?
I'll vote for this former president this time around.
I guess, sir.
Okay, let me stop you there only because I want you to pick the best line that represents you again.
If you supported other candidates, it's 202-748-8922.
If you supported other candidates in this race and voted for them, that's the line to pick.
So please do so and call in on that line again if you supported the vice president.
That's 202-748-8920.
If you supported the president-elect, it's 202-748-8921.
Text us at 202-748-8903 if you want to make your thoughts known there.
Toya, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hello.
Hello.
Hi.
Hi, Pedro.
How are you?
I just want to correct that one caller.
It was like three head callers saying that Harris was not black.
Harris was black.
Harris is black.
So stop all that, okay?
I supported Harris because, for one, the democracy.
People, I was sad, Pedro, but at the same time, we needed this.
Trump has a mandate now.
He has a House.
He has a Senate.
He has the Supreme Court.
And so now, since he has his mandate, he's going to show people who he really is.
People, we had guardrails before, so there's no guardrails no more.
So as that other caller stated that, you know, quit calling him fascism.
He's going to show you who he is.
And when he comes for your health care, when he comes for as a gutting the, and then he has RFK, RFK over public health.
People think that Trump is joking.
Trump just says things, but he tells you the truth of what he's going to do.
And so all these people that voted for saying groceries are high, you're going to see how those tariffs act.
You're going to see how your pockets are going to be acting.
You're going to feel it.
And this is what America needs.
America needs to feel this.
America needs to feel this.
So this is who you voted for.
He has a mandate now.
You cannot say nothing as of blaming Biden or Harris.
He's going to have four years as unguardrail, everything what he wants to do.
And I'll tell you what, what's going to happen is that basically our Constitution, our institutions are going to fail.
I'm sorry.
I pray to God that it does not.
But again, this man, he is coming in here with a fool as of basically as of making upset with people as what they did to him.
And people are going to watch it.
Political deportation.
That's Toya there in Ohio.
Just to clarify something she said, we know that the president-elect as such, winning enough electoral college votes to do so.
The Senate to be in Republican hands due to elections.
The House still up for grabs.
Again, we've been telling you that in the morning, if you watch the balance of power side on the left side of your screen there, you'll look at the balance of power where it stands as far as the Senate and the House races are concerned.
So pay attention to that.
John, give me more information throughout the course of the morning, too.
New York is Edward there in Plymouth, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Yeah, I just want to say Donald Trump proved himself in the last presidency, and that's why I voted for him, because he was the best president I have ever seen in my lifetime.
Okay.
Anything else there?
That there should be a question on the census that only American citizens should be counted so that we don't get any more congressional seats because this is why these borders were open was to change the census in a couple more years.
Okay there.
Edward, supporter of the president-elect, Donald Trump.
Let's hear from Vivian.
Actually, let's hear from James.
James in Macon, Georgia, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hello.
Yes.
How are you doing today, Pedro?
Fine, thank you.
Go ahead.
I just want to say that I don't understand how you can elect a criminal, a convicted felon, a guy who sexual assault women and break all the rules of the Constitution.
I just, you know, it's heartbreaking that you see a female who's a candidate that's qualified to run this country.
And then you bring him back, a guy who's been on television for so long that people seen him NBC and then y'all elect him back in office for some of the things that he did do wrong.
I just, it's heartbreaking.
It's heartbreaking.
But you know what?
You're going to get what you, he told you what he's going to do.
All you Hispanic, all you, all you, all you, all you, the doors.
So James, let me ask you, why do you think your state went for the president then?
The president-elect?
Say that again.
Why do you think your state in Georgia went for President Trump?
You know what?
I can't even answer that.
You know, I'm going to tell you this.
I'm going to tell you this.
We won in 2020, and then we lose in 24.
That is something I cannot explain.
But I tell you this.
Okay, okay.
Let's hear from Carol.
Carol's in Atlanta, Georgia, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Yes.
Hi, good morning, America.
New day has dawned.
All of these people who are calling in worried and threatened that Donald Trump is in office need to just look back four years ago.
Look at his record.
This man did nothing but good for America and has been demonized by the press and demonized by the party of tolerance.
He has been bullied beyond anything I've ever seen.
He fought the media machine and won.
And I'm going to tell you, she who mocked God lost.
He who thanked God for his life won.
God bless America and God bless Donald Trump.
Carol, there in Georgia, as this special extended version of our program takes place, five hours total, taking a look at the results of yesterday's election.
You have a chance to call it and make your thoughts known on the results there, even as we stand with president-elect, according to the Electoral College, still states out there yet to determine how they'll vote or how they voted for either the president-elect or the vice president.
And with a rundown of that, here's John McCartney.
Pedro, yes, the president-elect currently has 277 electoral votes, more than he needs, the 270 mark for the presidency.
Now it's a question of how much Donald Trump is going to run it up in these outstanding races that are left to be called.
Let me just run through where we are in those races.
In Michigan, with 97% reporting, Donald Trump is at the 50% mark, Kamala Harris at the 48.3% mark.
There's 15 electors at stake in the Wolverine state.
In Arizona, 11 electors at stake.
Donald Trump is at 52%.
Kamala Harris at 47%, 61% votes in there in Arizona.
To Nevada, where 84% of the vote is in, six electors at stake, Donald Trump at 51.5%, and Kamala Harris at just under 47%.
And then the other state that has not been called by the Associated Press, that's Alaska.
It would be a true shock if Alaska went to a Democrat, to Kamala Harris.
Donald Trump is up by more than 15 points with 76% reporting.
A good guess that Donald Trump will win that state.
If he wins all four of those outstanding states, he'll get 314 electoral votes.
That's more than the 304 electoral votes that he got in 2016 to win the presidency.
He got 232 electoral votes in 2020 when he lost to Joe Biden.
The other question is the popular vote.
Donald Track seems poised to win the popular vote, currently at 71,205,000 votes for Donald Trump to Kamala Harris's 66,265,000 votes in the popular vote.
A reminder that back in 2020, Donald Trump received 74,000,000 votes in the popular vote.
And again, he currently stands at 71 million and counting here.
Thank you, John.
Again, as we go through the program, if you notice that QR code in the lower corner there of the screen, if you use your phone's camera to grab that, you can get taken to the site where all of our election information is, information that we're sharing with you this morning throughout the course of the morning.
If you want to follow along on your phone, if you have to go out and about and do other things today, you're welcome to do so.
This is and welcome to take us along as you do so.
Kia in Las Vegas, our line for those who supported others this election.
Hello.
Hi there.
How are you?
Fine, thank you.
Good.
So I voted for Trump and, you know, I just have to say let me stop you there only because, again, this line has been designated for those who supported others and voted for others this time around.
So if you would give us a call and pick the line that best represents you, again, that would be for those, the present-elect, feel free to do so.
Plenty of time to do so in the course of this show with our extended time.
Feel free to do that.
Vivian in North Carolina, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Hello.
Hello, Your Hon. Yes.
I'm calling.
I voted for Kamala Harris as a Democrat.
And I've been listening to all the comments that were made.
First of all, I think that a lot of information that probably persuaded voters to vote against her was misinformation.
And my other feelings about this situation, I'm very devastated about Trump becoming president again.
I can recall where millions of people died under his watch because of his negligence.
And people don't take that into consideration.
Another thing is, I feel like a convicted felon, most convicted felons cannot vote, especially if they have charges pending or pending sentencing.
How does he get the opportunity to vote or even run for presidency?
These are things I cannot support.
I cannot support a person who does not demonstrate any morals or values, the things, the lies, the things he say out of his mouth.
This is not something that I am used to, especially coming from a president.
Okay, Vivian there in North Carolina.
Kentucky was one of those early states that went for the former president and now the president-elect.
Craig calling us on the line to supporters of the president-elect, Craig in Jenkins, Kentucky.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
Great morning to be a Republican and great morning to be a Trump supporter.
Been listening to the Democrats talk this morning, and I think one thing that really hurt them, they said, I said Kamala never did talk about her plans.
She never did talk about what she was going to do.
And the Democrats said, well, go to her website.
The people didn't want to go to her website.
They wanted to hear it come out of her mouth.
And she never would do it.
She would skate around the issues.
She never would come up with definitive answers to questions and things like that.
That's what hurt her in this.
I mean, I know she just had 100 days to do this.
She was sort of thrown into the spotlight very quickly.
That hurt the Democrats this time.
I mean, Trump is not a politician.
He's a businessman.
So let's let this business.
Well, considering he was a former president, isn't he a politician now, technically?
He is a politician, but he's a businessman and he knows how to run a business.
And to me, this country is a business, and we need this country run as a business, get it back on its feet and get it back to where it needs to be.
Okay.
Thank you.
Craig there in Kentucky during the, or at least comments from the president-elect in the early hours of this morning.
He gave some time to his vice presidential running mate, now Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Here's a portion of comments made from earlier this morning.
Well, Mr. President, I appreciate you allowing me to join you on this incredible journey.
I thank you for the trust that you placed in me.
And I think that we just witnessed the greatest political comeback in the history of the United States of America.
And under President Trump's leadership, we're never going to stop fighting for you, for your dreams, for the future of your children.
And after the greatest political comeback in American history, we're going to lead the greatest economic comeback in American history under Donald Trump's leadership.
We've set aside a line this morning for those of you who did not vote for either the president-elect or Vice President Harris this time around.
Again, that number 202-748-8922.
Keith calling in on that line from Nevada.
Good morning.
Good morning, America.
Yes, the Democrats still don't understand why they lost.
Well, let me tell you, Trump is just the cause and effect reciprocity of the Democratic radical policies.
And on MSNBC and all the left media, for example, Al Sharpton this morning stated that Trump ran on a campaign of fear.
And he is so far from wrong.
As an American, Trump was telling the truth about the Democratic policies that created fear of our individual liberties that were at stake.
So the Dems created Trump, and they created what American did today because of all the policies of the United States.
Who did you vote for this time around?
Well, Trump is the only one who could, you know, he's independent.
I mean, look at our.
I'll stop you there.
Again, caller.
I'll try to enforce the rule that I think I've said a couple of times this morning as far as if you call on the line for others, make sure that you have voted for others when it comes to this past election.
Let's hear from Brian, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Go ahead, you're next up.
Yes, I voted for president or Harris for president, and I just want people to realize that with Trump's policies that they like so much, the no tips or no taxes on tips, no taxes on Social Security, no taxes on, there was another one.
You're defundant, but you are defunding Social Security.
How are you going to close that gap back?
So instead of 2036 Social Security being gone, it'll be gone in 2031.
Trump is a businessman.
Come on.
What, six bankruptcies?
400,000 Americans died under his watch during COVID while he just cared about golf.
But he's the president.
He is elected.
I think Democrats can be mature and accept the results because we know the Republicans can't.
Okay, Brian there in Nebraska.
We'll hear from Andy in Kentucky, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Good morning.
Just remember who you voted for and the reasons that you voted.
Because as he tries to implement, speaking of Trump, implement what he wants to do, he will have lawsuits.
He will have media.
Everyone's going to be just attacking him and you people that voted for him like crazy.
So be grounded in how you voted.
Remember, write it down.
Make notes so you can come back and reflect on why you voted and what you want the president to do.
Okay.
Andy in Kentucky joining us, also joining us throughout the course of the morning here, John McCarto with information about yesterday.
Yesterday and the future, the 119th Congress, when it sits in January, will have several notable firsts as Punchbowl News writes in its article out this morning.
Just want to run through some of the historic and notable firsts in the 119th Congress, including senators-elect Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware, the Democrat, and Angela Olsobrooks, who will become the first two black women to serve together in the Senate.
Neither Delaware or Maryland have ever had a black senator, and Delaware has never been represented by a woman in the United States Senate.
There's also Congresswoman-elect Sarah McBride will become the first openly transgender member to serve in Congress.
She's a Democrat from Delaware, her election coming last night.
Congresswoman-elect Julie Johnson of Texas, a Democrat, will be the first openly gay member to not only represent Texas, but the entire South.
Emily Randall, the Democrat of Washington, is on track to be the first openly LGBTQ Latina in Congress.
Her race hasn't officially been called, but she's well ahead in that blue seat.
Senator-elect Andy Kim of New Jersey, the Democrat, will be the first Korean-American United States senator.
Congressman Ruben Gallego of Arizona, the Democrat, is poised to become the first Hispanic senator from Arizona if he holds on.
His race hasn't been called by the Associated Press yet.
And Senator-elect Bernie Moreno of Ohio, the Republican, will be the first Hispanic lawmaker to represent Ohio statewide.
That all in the Punch Bowl News wrap-up of Historic Firsts in the 119th Congress.
Again, John McCartney is giving us that information, and he'll be with us throughout the course of the morning.
You can access that information as well when you watch information pass on our screen there.
And also, you can go to our website at cspan.org to follow along there too.
John mentioning that Republican challenger to the Ohio Senate race, Bernie Boreno.
It was after last night.
Here's a bit of his victory speech from yesterday.
Look, today starts a new wave.
You know, we talked about wanting a red wave.
I think what we have tonight is a red, white, and blue wave in this country.
Because what we need in the United States of America is leaders in Washington, D.C. that actually put the interests of Americans above all else.
We're tired of being treated like second-class citizens in our own country.
We're tired of leaders that think we're garbage.
And we're tired of being treated like garbage.
You know, my opponent talked a lot about helping the working man.
And I will agree with him on the need to help working Americans.
But the difference is talk without action is nothing.
So what we're going to do, thanks to now having a Republican majority, by the way, how about that in the United States Senate?
And Chuck Schumer, if you're watching, thanks for the help in the primary, but you're fired, buddy.
This is a new dawn of Republican leadership.
With President Trump and JD Vance in the White House, we are going to advance an agenda that is an American agenda.
An agenda that says we are pro-immigration, but not pro-invasion.
We're going to make certain that the people who come to this country are invited here, are invited here like I was, like my family was, on our terms.
We're going to make this country an energy-dominant nation so that my kids do not grow up in a country where we ever rely on a foreign nation for energy ever, ever again.
And we have that energy right here in Ohio.
That means coal, that means natural gas, it means oil, and it means nuclear.
And in terms of EV mandates, they need to be gone first thing in January.
And we're going to make certain that we tell California, you don't get to dictate to the whole country what our emission standards are.
We're going to dictate that at the federal level, and we're going to allow consumers to pick the kind of car they want.
Look, the other piece that I want to talk about is what President Trump has brought to this country, which is peace and stability around the world.
America will be a leader in the world, will always be a leader in the world.
American leadership has made the planet safer, more prosperous, and more secure than at any point in human history.
But it means that we ensure peace through strength.
The weakness of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is rejected.
And I know that from whether it's in Jerusalem or Kiev or anywhere else on earth or Taiwan, they're cheering this election because they know American strength will ensure peace.
Peace around the world.
Again, these speeches, you can find them at our website at cspan.org.
Also, check out our free video app, C-SPAN now, if you want to see some of these speeches from yesterday.
Let's hear from Mark in Oregon, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Mark, good morning.
Good morning.
Thank you for having me on.
Yeah, I did vote for Harris.
I live in a rural community in southern Oregon.
So other than just a few of us, it's predominantly red.
But you gain a perspective that you may not see in other communities, other cities across the country.
I can tell you, my brother and I don't align politically.
I love him very much.
But talking to him and others alike, it really comes down to really basic issues, inflation, you know, groceries are expensive, you know, stuff like that, that really was all it took to tip the scale.
I understand that the economic indicators are positive, but boots on the ground, buying groceries, gas, that was enough for at least the folks that I'm surrounded by, enough to vote for Trump.
I'll take your comment up there.
Do you think that the vice president could have done a better supporter of President-elect Trump?
Oh, hi.
Thanks for taking my call.
I wanted to make a few points about where I think we are as a country.
I think on the domestic level, the president-elect was never a politician.
And he had always made his living in business.
And that is rare.
I don't know that that's ever happened in the history of our nation.
Also, the other thing that has never happened is as a former president, he was prosecuted by the Justice Department, I would say, unfairly.
And that and also, that was a first.
There's never been a president that was prosecuted as Donald Trump was.
The obvious facts domestically are that it, well, the House may go either way, but they were using on the TV the trifecta.
So there is little doubt that the country was unhappy with what was going on.
I would encourage people who were voting for Harris to look at other media outlets.
And I do that.
I try to listen to all the media outlets.
And that way you can evaluate what you're actually hearing.
And you can see that the media, in large part, for the last quite a few years, all of the years of Donald Trump, has demonized him and been part of the problem.
And the Democratic Party itself needs to look at itself to see how it needs to stop that kind of thing so that we can all move on and be better.
Okay.
Okay, that's Bob Bear in Kansas.
Let's hear from Mika, supporter of Vice President Harris in North Carolina, one of those states being watched closely yesterday.
Mika, hello.
Hi.
So, hi, I'm one of those transgenders that the Trump supporters have been so up in arms about.
I'm also an Army veteran.
Works military police investigations.
I also enjoy working civil service stuff.
This was the first election that I worked as a full worker.
It's probably also going to be the last that I work as a full worker.
Republicans now have the Supreme Court, Senate, White House, and probably they're going to have the House.
People that have attempted to take away my rights as a trans woman, such as Trump's attempted ban on trans people serving in the military and Jennifer Falcom.
She's a North Carolina House Representative.
She's authoring bills to take away the rights of transgender people in North Carolina.
Those are just a few that have been re-elected.
My wife and I are planning on leaving the United States.
I'm not going to give them a chance to influence my life any more than they already have.
I mean, it's just now that Trump has been given immunity, the Republicans have pretty much given us our first king.
And that's not healthy for a democracy to have no guardrails.
Okay, let's hear from a supporter of other candidates in this race or this election from California.
We'll hear from Patrick.
Morning.
Morning, go ahead.
Yes.
Yes.
Good morning.
Can you hear me?
Yes, you're on.
Go ahead.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I voted third party.
And I think the speaker from Oregon pretty much summed up probably why Trump won because I think a lot of people, and I've been, you know, talking to friends that don't like Trump.
And I said, I think if he wins, it's going to be because people think, you know, the old saying, the buck stops where?
You know, groceries are expensive, gas is expensive.
In fact, our governor out here is, I think we're enacting a tax where we're going to have 65 cents a gallon extra on top of our hearty expensive gas out in California.
So people are frustrated.
You said you voted third party.
Who did you vote for and why?
Well, I voted for somebody that stopped running, but was still on our ticket because I like what RFK and Shanahan stood for.
I felt very comfortable with them, so I just voted for them.
I know it probably was a throwaway, but that's what I did.
What do you think about Robert F. Kennedy Jr. being attached to the Trump campaign?
Yeah, that's a good question.
I was really surprised, but I mean, surprised and not surprised.
But I didn't vote for him from a standpoint of, you know, trying to get Trump in.
It's just who I liked, you know.
Okay, Patrick there in California, giving us his thoughts.
John McArdo joining us again, giving us his thoughts.
Pedro, as we make our way towards 9 a.m. Eastern, just an update on where we are concerning the 119th Congress.
We do know that Republicans will control the Senate in the 119th Congress.
They gained enough seats last night to do so.
They took over seats in Montana and seats in Ohio as well, the open seat in West Virginia as well.
Three pickups there.
Let me just run through where the rest of the races stand right now.
Republicans at 52 seats in the Senate with several races yet to be called.
They could make their majority in the Senate in the mid-50s by the time all is said and done.
Here's Pennsylvania.
Dave McCormick is up, the Republican there against the sitting Democratic senator, Bob Casey, 97% reporting, and it's less than half a percentage point.
I'm sorry, it's less than one percentage point separating the two of them in the Keystone state of Pennsylvania.
But Dave McCormick up there to Michigan, the Wolverine state of Michigan.
Alyssa Slotkin, the Democrat, is slightly ahead of Mike Rogers, the Republican there, but it's still very close as it's been for hours in Michigan.
To Wisconsin, the Badger state of Wisconsin, there's 99% reporting.
Tammy Baldwin, the sitting senator there, is in the lead, 49.4% to Eric Hove D's 48.5%, almost one percentage point separating the two there.
And then I want to take viewers to Arizona.
It is Ruben Gallego, the congressman there, is in the lead at 50.4% to Kerry Lake, the Republicans, 47.6%.
The other toss-up race heading into the night was in the silver state of Nevada, 84% reporting.
Sam Brown, the Republican, at 47.3% to Senator Jackie Rosen, the Democrats, 47.2%.
If Republicans sweep the remaining states, they could be to the mid-high 50s.
But we'll see what happens in the United States Senate.
In the United States House, as you know, as we've been talking about all morning long, there's still plenty of races to be called.
All 435 seats up, 57 seats yet to be called.
Democrats need a net of four seats to win the United States House and take it over in the 119th Congress.
And this is the latest from the Cook Political Report, one of those race rating agencies that have been watching these races all cycle long.
They don't think it's going to happen for Democrats in the House.
This was their tweet just after 8:30 this morning.
At this point, the most likely outcome is a Republican trifecta, including a continued, though narrow, Republican House majority.
We'll watch in the hours and perhaps days to come as those outstanding House races finally get called.
Some of you texting us this morning.
This is Bruce from Ohio, a Marine veteran.
He says, I voted for President Trump.
The Obama/slash Clinton Biden administration is over.
It's time for our country to come together as a whole and support President Trump and make our country the greatest country it has ever been.
God bless the USA.
This is Paul in New Jersey as a Marine veteran.
I'm sad to see a former impeached insurrectionist convicted criminal given the highest post in this great country.
Now, I just hope they do win the House so they have no excuse when they ruin this country over the next four years.
Less in California, saying that Vice President Harris's loss is due to her gender.
I believe there are cross-sections of American men who would never elect a female leader.
Then he just adds the word sad.
And then this is Sophia from Massachusetts.
I'm grateful to live in Massachusetts.
We have elected officials who will fight for equal rights, safe health care, and good education.
I worry for fellow Americans who live in states where this is not guaranteed.
Texting us is easy.
You can do so at 202-748-8903 if you wish.
If you support Vice President Harris, 202748-8920, 202748-8921, if you support the president-elect.
For those who voted for others this election cycle, 202-748-8922.
And then the social sites there too, if you want to post your thoughts there.
Greg is up next on our others line in Kentucky.
Hi.
Hi, Pedro.
How are you doing?
Hi, thank you.
Pedro, you look sharp in your suit.
I noticed you like Maroon all the time on the ties.
But anyways, Pedro, I voted others.
I didn't vote, and I haven't voted in about 40 years.
The last time I voted was when I lived in California, and I voted for the three-strike rule.
And I made a mistake when I voted on that.
And since then, I haven't voted every since because I don't trust neither party.
Republican Party is racist.
The Democratic Party is racist to each other.
I watch C-SPAN all the time.
I always watch these hearings and they talk and stuff.
They just bass each other time and time again.
What really bothers me, my mom is a Democrat through and through.
We argue, and I tell her we have some arguments.
But when I drive my car and I go look at the gas stations and see that the gas price is up at $3, and every time a Democrat gets in office, gas prices go up, taxes go up.
So I stopped voting.
And my main reason why I stopped voting, I will vote until you stop sending my tax monies to other countries.
Then I will vote.
Otherwise, I will never vote again.
I serve this country.
I served in the U.S. Army during the Ronald Reagan administration way back in the day.
Yeah, he gave us a little raise.
You know, big deal.
It wasn't a big raise.
But when I joined the military, it was probably one of the biggest mistakes I made because I served God.
You know, I only serve God and I protect God and I serve him.
But I will never serve and protect this country.
I'm not giving my life to this country whatsoever.
I had to lose my leg, to lose my life so they can give my mom a flag.
Oh, no, no, no.
I'm not doing that.
Okay.
Let's hear from Kevin in Illinois, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Hey, good morning.
God bless you.
Great day for the Trump people.
I'll tell you what.
He got in.
You can thank the religious people.
You can thank the churches for it.
And I thank you.
You let me say the Lord's Prayer about two months ago.
And I tell you what.
Kevin from Illinois, you're on still.
Go ahead.
Okay.
Hey, yeah, like I said, this is about God and Trump.
God showed the world that he's still in charge.
I'm telling you, when I went to a Boston rally, I'm in southern Illinois, and I went to a rally, and God said, go tell the president he saved our country.
This was in 017.
I got there.
Kevin, you're still on.
If you're listening on television or watching a television, you're going to be distracted.
So go ahead and finish your thought, please.
Okay, well, I went to the rally.
I didn't just give the message to Trump that he saved our country in 017.
He stopped in his tracks when I hollered out that about God, and he repeated it.
He repeated it.
And then from what we've seen, we realize that God is the reason that he's here.
And can I say a quick prayer again for our country, please?
Quickly, please.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
And thou is the power and the kingdom of God forever.
Thank you so much, sir.
All right, we'll go to Alexander.
Alexander in Baltimore, a supporter of other candidates in this election cycle.
Good morning.
Hi, good morning.
Thanks for taking my call.
So I voted for Cornell West because I felt that Cornell West was the only educated person running in these matters, social political matters, so he would have the best understanding of grasping what was going on.
But I must say that I am ecstatic to know that Donald Trump is president.
The reason why is because Donald Trump's presidency is a complete discreditation to the United States judicial system in more ways than one.
And I think that the United States judicial system has been used as a weapon of colonization and railroading poor people into prison systems, hence the United States having the largest one in the world.
And Donald Trump has merely co-opted it.
And now he's using the judicial system against the people, retracting the people's constitutional rights, relegating issues to morality rather than addressing them as constitutional rights, i.e. Roe v. Wade.
So I never regarded the United States as a legitimate political anyway, going all the way back to its inception, even prior to then.
So I'm ecstatic to see Donald Trump in here because he completely is a sign as to why the United States was never a legitimate entity to begin with.
All people of color and people who lied outside the margins of what white America deems to be acceptable, this is a sign for you.
Okay, that's Alexander in Baltimore, another Baltimorean.
This is Evelyn, who voted for Vice President Harris.
Good morning.
Go ahead.
Well, good morning, Pedro.
Yes, I voted for Harris.
And, you know, I watched yesterday, last night.
But I always had this feeling that she wasn't going to win because I feel like this.
This country would not vote in a white lady, Hillary Clinton, as president.
So it wouldn't make everybody think they were going to vote in a woman of color.
I just didn't see it.
You know, and they can talk about God and Jesus and all that, but they're all hypocrites because Donald Trump stands for everything that's not religious.
Okay.
This is David.
David in Michigan, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Hi, how you doing?
Go ahead.
I just had a thought.
When President Trump was in his first term there, they were trying to sue him before he even took office.
And then he lost to Biden.
And I think that's kind of a blessing in disguise because during that time, they sued him for every reason imaginable.
And so now he's in office again, they've kind of run out of steam.
There's really nothing else they can sue him for.
So maybe he can focus on running the country rather than fighting the Democrats.
Okay.
That's David there in Michigan, finishing off hour two of a program.
We're about to go into hour three of a five-hour tour and talking about the results of last night's election.
If you want to call and give us your thoughts on the results of last night's, have you been seeing him?
If you support Vice President Harris, it's 202-748-8920.
If you support the president-elect Donald Trump, 202-748-8921.
If you supported and voted for other candidates in this election, 202-748-8922.
And if you want to text us, you can do that at 202-748-8903.
Social media available to you, too.
On X, that's at C-SPAN.
And then at Facebook, it's facebook.com slash C-SPAN.
Starting off our third hour, this is Susan on our line for others from Connecticut.
Hi.
Hi.
I voted for the Green Party.
I voted for Jill Stein, and mainly because of her position on Palestine, because I, morally, I couldn't vote for either candidate that is supporting the killing of so many children every day, so many mothers.
And I would just have to say that this led me because I think maybe eight, ten elect, well, eight or ten, twelve years ago, someone told me they voted third party, and I was like, oh, you're throwing your vote away.
And here in Connecticut, it doesn't matter so much.
But no, I think we have to reform our system because funny, I voted for the Green Party.
I see the Democrats and Republicans as the purple party.
They're kind of both two sides of the same coin.
Whoever they, like they didn't, the Democrats didn't even have a battle for who was going to run.
You know, they just picked Kamala because they picked somebody that they knew was going to do exactly what they wanted them to do.
I don't feel that we are a democracy.
I think we are an oligarchy.
And I just like Israel is not a democracy in the Middle East.
And I just want to tell people, maybe you'll see it in four or eight years, that I think they're kind of jerking our chains.
For example, once I tell people that I didn't, I'm not for Kamala, I'm not for Trump, I can talk to both sides because they don't get all offended with me.
They like us fighting with each other.
And the last thing I want to say is that, so I talked, going to election, I gave a lady to the poll, and I said, we're not going to cancel out each other's vote because she was going to vote for Trump.
Why am I not going to take her to the polls?
I take her to the grocery store.
But her main issue was immigration.
And I just want you to think back, people that are old enough.
Do you remember when the Iran hostages, when I think it was Jimmy Carter that was president, and he had made a deal so the hostages before the election would be released?
The reason they weren't released is because they waited until after the election so that could be Reagan's, well, for immigration, I told her they had this bill, the Democrats bipartisan bill, that they were going to do for immigration.
And actually, it was tougher than I liked.
But the reason they didn't pass it, Donald Trump came out and said, don't pass that, or you can say the Republicans or Donald Trump as his spokesman, don't pass that until after the election.
That's what we need to win.
So just think about it.
And maybe you'll be like me.
It took me about eight years to get smart.
It's the Purple Party, Republicans and Democrats, the same side.
Okay.
Okay, Susan there in Connecticut.
Let's hear from a supporter of Vice President Harris from Florida.
This is Paul.
Good morning.
Thanks for having me on, Pedro.
I appreciate it.
I'm a vivid follower.
There's a lot of things that I don't have enough time to speak on.
Personally, the race was, it was not, you know, it wasn't a murdering.
You know, Kamala stood her ground.
She got her votes.
I was hoping she would have won.
I did vote for her.
Trump, I'm completely against him.
You know, right before he left office, he pardoned so many people.
And just yesterday, his son was already talking about this case with Diddy.
There's so many other things that are so much more important.
And aside from that, we have the immigration.
We have now we're having religious congregations and churches that are thanking him and praising him like he's an all-power, like the second coming.
He's just another human that bleeds.
We need someone that's going to unite America.
The speech last night that this is red, white, and blue, my bloodline is Puerto Rican.
How am I supposed to feel about them calling my race trash?
You know, and then, okay, the Democrats hit back because that's what they're doing.
The last couple weeks was just back and forth insulting of each other, and nothing was standing on solid ground about what was going to be done.
Everything was a concept on both sides.
Okay.
Let's hear from Jacob.
Jacob in Virginia, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Hey, good morning.
God bless America, Pedro.
Thanks for having me on your show.
You're on.
Go ahead.
Can you hear me, sir?
I can.
Go ahead.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, I wanted to give you a compliment.
You're very fair and balanced about this.
Other news anchors on MSNBC, CNN, they're having meltdowns still saying something fascists and all this other stuff.
We had four great years under President Shelby.
There was no fascism involved with it.
We had a flourishing economy, low prices on gas, goods, and services across the United States.
We had peace.
I myself am a proud global war on terror U.S. Army disabled veteran.
For our nation to not be in wars, to not be involved as the world police is a big key.
And I think going forward, the team that Trump has put together, that President Trump put together, is a phenomenal team.
And I think that there's a lot of people that have been given a disservice to the liberal media telling them lies and just blatant untruths and falsehoods.
And I really hope that in the next four years, we really move forward as Americans.
Okay.
Jacob there in Virginia giving us his thoughts.
Let's hear from a viewer in California, Barbara, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Good morning.
You're next up.
Good morning.
You're on.
Go ahead.
Can you hear me?
Yep.
Yes.
I am an 84-year-old great-grandmother.
I voted for Kamala because I'm looking for the fact in the future that my rights as a woman and my children, my great-grandchildren will all have those rights to be able to take care of their bodies.
It's their bodies.
It's not the government's body.
It's certainly not men's bodies.
So I'd love to hear from George Shella.
Go ahead, Barbara.
Finish your thought.
You're listening to the television, so just go ahead and finish, please.
Okay, yes.
So I voted for her, as I said, because I voted for women's rights.
I'm an 84-year-old great-grandmother.
I want my great-grandchildren to have the choice of what they want to do.
And I also believe that Donald Trump will never change.
I have followed him since he first went out and came and took out a full page against five innocent men.
And in New York, him and his father were racist, unable to rent to anyone of color.
So I just feel that he does not deserve to be president of this country.
Okay, Barbara there in California giving us her thoughts.
Here's more from Ben was former President Trump because it was in the early hours before the nomination was officially, or the election was officially secured for him.
But he was talking to his supporters in the early morning hours, referencing the assassination attempt that you are more familiar with.
Here's the president-elect now from earlier this morning.
And I said that many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason.
And that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness.
And now we are going to fulfill that mission together.
We're going to fulfill that mission.
The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit, and fight that I have in my soul to the job that you've entrusted to me.
This is a great job.
There's no job like this.
This is the most important job in the world.
Just as I did in my first term, we had a great first term, a great, great first term.
I will govern by a simple motto: promises made, promises kept.
We're going to keep our promises.
Nothing will stop me from keeping my word to you, the people.
We will make America safe, strong, prosperous, powerful, and free again.
And I'm asking every citizen all across our land to join me in this noble and righteous endeavor.
That's what it is.
It's time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us.
It's time to unite.
And we're going to try.
We're going to try.
We have to try.
And it's going to happen.
Success will bring us together.
I've seen that.
I've seen that.
I saw that in the first term when we became more and more successful.
People started coming together.
Success is going to bring us together.
And we are going to start by all putting America first.
We have to put our country first for at least a period of time.
We have to fix it.
Because together we can truly make America great again for all Americans.
So I want to just tell you what a great honor this is.
I want to thank you.
I will not let you down.
America's future will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer, and stronger than it has ever been before.
God bless you and God bless America.
Thank you very much.
More of that speech available at our website at cspan.org, our app at c SPADNow.
Again, reportedly later on today, we're expected to hear from Vice President Harris as she addresses her supporters.
But you can keep track of all that's going on in the aftermath of yesterday's election at the website at cspan.org.
Let's go back to John McCartnell.
Pedro, as we've talked about this morning, we know Republicans will control the Senate, but there's a couple things we don't know.
The size of the Republican majority in the Senate, it could continue to grow as the last of these Senate races come in.
And who will be the next Senate majority leader?
Mitch McConnell has been the longtime leader of Senate Republicans.
And of course, he is stepping down from that post.
The race to replace him is going to take place on November 13th.
It's a secret ballot.
And here's a recent Fortune magazine story on that race to replace Mitch McConnell as the leader of Senate Republicans.
As the GOP looks to retake the Senate, one of the two Johns or a strong Trump ally could be in charge, referring when they talk about the Johns there to John Cornyn of Texas or John Thune, McConnell's current number two of South Dakota, the second ranking Republican among Republican senators.
And then the third person that they're talking about there is Rick Scott.
Florida Senator Rick Scott could act as a spoiler in this race.
Of course, another candidate could jump in as well.
Secret ballot, again, set to take place on November 13th when we'll know more.
But speaking of the two Johns and Senator Rick Scott, they were tweeting, all three of them, tweeting late last night and early this morning, starting with Senator Cornyn of Texas saying yesterday the American people rejected Senate Democrats' disastrous border policies, reckless spending, and failed management.
Chuck Schumer has broken the Senate, but I'm confident this new conservative majority can restore it.
More of his statement that he links to.
And then Senator John Thune with his statement he put out late last night, just after 2.20 a.m. Eastern Time.
Congratulations to President Trump and Senator Vance on their hard-fought victory.
The American people have chosen to turn the page on the Biden-Harris administration's failed policies of high prices and open borders and instead chart a new course for our country.
The incoming Senate Republican majority will work hand in hand with the Trump-Vance administration to lower costs for families, secure our border, and renew America's energy dominance.
The work begins now, says Senator John Thune.
And then Rick Scott of Florida, after he was reelected last night and after Donald Trump was reelected, saying, I'm thrilled to congratulate my friend and our 47th president, Donald Trump, now begins the work to turn the page on the disastrous Biden-Harris agenda and make our country great again.
Let's go to Kenneth.
Kenneth is in Washington State, a supporter of the president-elect.
Good morning.
Yeah, good morning.
I'm just proud that my prayer was answered, that he got in there.
And, you know, one thing I've never heard out of a lot of the politicians is, you know, there's only one race, the human race.
You know, and I'm just so happy that he won.
Maybe we can turn this everything around now.
Maybe start.
I was worried because I heat my house with propane, that they were going to shut that off.
Harris is talking about that.
And, you know, I heard them, you know, talking about shutting all the propane things down here.
And then just down the road from me here in Central, Washington, we have the Central Steam Plant, you know, and it's a coal mining place, but they've found like 20, 20 years worth of propane.
I was worried about that too, you know, but I'm just, I'm just, my prayer was answered, you know, and I'm just, I'm just glad to be an American.
And I listened to a guy from Kentucky talking about how, you know, he'd be owing the military and all this, and he never voted.
Well, you know, he don't have really any right, you know, when you vote.
I know this is American freedom of speech.
And I stand on the First Amendment, Second Amendment, and all that.
But, you know, if you really don't like it, there's planes and trains and jets going to other countries if you don't like it here, you know.
Okay.
For those who voted for other candidates in this election cycle in Illinois, Ambrogio, hello.
Hello.
Thank you for taking my call.
I really appreciate C-SPAN and the opportunity to give my opinion.
I'd just like to say the following.
I don't think it matters with Harris or Trump no more than it did for the Clintons or the Bushes or Obama.
I think the American people really need to take a good look in the mirror.
I think the fact that we have conducted numerous overthrows of governments, including Ukraine, the attempts to overthrow Pakistan, Bolivia, it's just continual.
It's been going on for decades.
And the fact that we ourselves as a people are responsible for the countless thousands of children and women being killed now is such demonic, almost a satanic culture that represents a country that I am ashamed of.
And I'm a 72-year-old retired military officer, 90% service-connected disabled.
And I am ashamed of this country.
I'm ashamed of the vitriol discussion between the peoples of parties that are corrupt, not just by money.
But the morality of us as a people is so shameful to me.
The only recourse I have, which is what the previous caller said, is God willing, I will be leaving this country next year.
And I don't know to see anything other than God have mercy on this country.
God have mercy on the people.
And until there is some type of moral spiritual cleansing, I voted for Dr. Cornell West, who is the only moral, honest person I've seen.
And I just hope it won't happen in my lifetime, but I would hope to God we could stop the killing.
We talk about peace.
Let's go to Ted.
Ted in Minnesota, supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Yes, good morning.
I'd just like to bring up the fact that these are not intuitions or false statements, the facts about Donald J. Trump.
Number one, he's been a convicted rapist.
Oh, he was convicted of sexual abuse.
Well, okay, sexual abuse and 27 other women, too.
But I just want to say that it's really a sad, sad day in America when you've got someone that's a tax evader that's been found guilty of over $450 million stealing from our country, and people call him a patriot.
I think that this country is going to have a very, very rude awakening.
I feel bad for some of these people in this country.
They're going to be thrown out of it.
I feel that we've been, you know, Trump keeps bringing up the fact that we're going to drill in oil and stuff.
We produce more oil right now than anyone in the world.
So I don't know where that's coming from.
But I would just like to say that you re-put your soul.
And please, God be with us.
Okay.
A supporter of the president-elect, this is from Indiana.
Sean, hello.
Hey, how's it going?
You're on.
Go ahead.
All right.
I just want to say, well, first off, I voted for Trump and voted for him back in 2020.
But I was actually surprised with the election results looking at it last night.
And today, I thought it was going to be much closer.
And, you know, people that I'm friends with on Facebook, I have like a pretty diverse group of friends.
I have, you know, different beliefs.
But, you know, everything that I watch on TV, you know, on social media, like I really thought it was going to be really close.
And I'm kind of shocked.
I mean, I'm happy that Trump won.
Don't get me wrong.
But I just think that Harris just like politicized more over social issues than the economy.
And like a lot of the indications of what people cared about was the economy.
So I felt like if she would have just focused more on that, maybe distance herself more from Biden.
Like she kind of, she acted more of like a team player and was just, you know, like, you know, I support Biden and everything, but I feel like a lot of people didn't really approve of him.
So I feel like those are some of her shortcomings.
Okay.
Sean there in Indiana.
This is Mike Rachelin from texting us this morning saying I'm a college educated man in Pennsylvania.
I voted for Hillary and Biden, but had no options but to vote for Trump.
Harris was never elected in a primary.
And the fact that she decided to have zero media exposure killed her.
From a viewer off of X saying this is embarrassing for the country.
It is more than just having a leader who is a felon.
It's relatively stupid and wars against intelligent governance.
His plan is to fire expert government employees who make the United States run smoothly.
He has no respect for them.
Matthew in Connecticut saying, I voted for Ron Paul, Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden, who was the last Democrat I think I'll ever support.
Both major parties are corrupt.
This year, I supported Libertarian Chase Oliver and the Green Party and Independents down ticket.
And then from Detroit, Michigan, this is Tracy saying, when will the Democratic Party get that identity politics no longer works?
Democrats blew it by not bailing on President Biden sooner and actually holding a primary.
Gavin Newsom might have emerged as a better candidate.
Again, Tracy from Detroit, Michigan.
You may have seen the various options you have to reach out to us other than the phone lines if you wish.
If you want to text us, it's 202-748-8903 is that number.
If you want to post on X, that's at C-SPAN.
And if you want to post on Facebook, that's at facebook.com/slash C-SPAN.
Let's go back to John McCurdle.
Pedro, you talk about reaching out.
World leaders are reaching out to Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory, his return to the White House.
This is the Politico headline congratulating Trump on his winning, praising his comeback.
And let me run through some of those comments from world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron.
Congratulations, President Donald Trump.
Ready to work together as we did for four years with your convictions and mine, with respect and ambition for more peace and prosperity.
Prime Minister Modi of India, heartiest congratulations, my friend Donald Trump, on your historic election victory.
As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.
More this from the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Kier Starmer, saying, congratulations, President-elect Donald Trump, on your historic election victory.
I look forward to working with you in the years ahead.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.
Dear Donald and Melania Trump, he writes, congratulations on history's greatest comeback.
Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America, saying this is a huge victory.
And one more, President Vlodymir Zelensky of Ukraine saying, congratulations to Donald Trump on his impressive election victory.
I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the victory plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Some of the statements from world leaders overnight and this morning.
Let's hear from Alan.
Alan is in New York, in Brooklyn, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Good morning.
Thank you very much.
Good morning.
I have a number of things to say.
I'll try to be brief.
First of all, just looked up that the Stein vote alone, which is with the support of Vladimir Putin in the swing states, would have made the difference in any one of those states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, or Georgia.
And she ended up taking enough votes in each of them to deny Harris what would have been a majority in each of those swing states.
So the role of Putin here and Trump's likely collaboration with Putin in supporting her candidacy is unacceptable.
His mixture of church and state denies the equal status of other citizens.
I think they have a right to sue for the violation of their rights just by talking about advocating Christian dominionism in the country and getting a lot of votes of people of Christian faith by effectively bribing them with a promise of power they don't deserve and the Constitution can't possibly give them.
And there's also the question of denying the rights of children to a future free of climate change.
The Supreme Court actually recognized over 10 years ago that climate science is a valid concern of the EPA.
And by saying that we're going to ignore climate science and expunge it under Project 2025 from all government functions is basically an assault on non-voting children and future generations.
The Electoral College, even if it gets a majority here, deters voting by people in big states.
Probably five to ten votes, million votes in just California and New York alone, statistically, do not vote because they know it doesn't affect the outcoming presidential races.
That makes the electoral college today unacceptable because at the time of our founding, the difference in ratio between biggest and smallest state voting power was only one to four.
With changes in population, it's now one to forty.
Okay.
You can't have a citizen.
Yeah.
Okay.
Let's go to Brad.
Brad in Washington State on our line for those who voted for other candidates.
Hello.
Hello.
Really quickly, I would actually just like to refute a little bit of what that last caller just said.
I believe they said something about the third party voter, just the Jill Stein vote being enough to overcome the gaps in the swing states.
Last time I checked, the gap was greater than that.
That being said, what a terrible morning.
I don't know.
Like, this is it's still just kind of a shock.
It feels terrible.
All I want to say is for anyone who isn't kind of familiar with the ideology that Trump or Elon Musk or JD Vance or Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, these dark enlightenment types, what they propose, if you look up a book called Democracy: The God That Failed, that is very telling as to where they kind of want to take us down the road.
I don't want to go too deep into the weeds with that, but I'm just very concerned about where we're going.
And for anyone who did vote for the president-elect, I fear that you have voted for the Panthers Will Eat Your Face party, and they are going to eat your face.
Your face is on the menu.
Okay, Ronald in Florida, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
My name is Ron.
I am a Donald Trump supporter, and I was extremely, extremely happy when Donald Trump actually won.
And thank you very much for the call.
Vice President Harris supporter, this is Betty from that battleground state of Pennsylvania.
Betty, good morning.
Well, I'd like to say hello.
It's not a very good morning in our House.
I am fearful about this election.
We have two granddaughters, 24 and 27, and they always talk to us about being so fearful of Donald Trump and what his party is going to bring.
I worry our allies.
Are our allies going to be our friends, or are now they're going to be our foes?
I worry about the 2025 project.
RFK Jr., if he's in charge of the APA, our food, you know, are we going to have labels on our food?
We may not under if he's in charge.
Our vaccines, are we going to have vaccines taken away?
Are we going to bring back illnesses and diseases that we've never, that we've, that have gone away because he doesn't like vaccines, worry about climate change, worry about the health care for women.
And the Electoral College, as someone mentioned, it's kind of archaic and flawed.
Now, except for this election, where Trump won the popular vote and the electoral votes, it would now seem that an amendment, if they made an amendment somewhere in the next four elections, where people that are now in charge would not be infected by the reform, I think it could really use an overhaul.
Okay.
That's Betty there in Pennsylvania giving us her thoughts.
Reuters out with a piece just about a half hour ago.
Now that we have a president-elect, who could that person pick for contenders as far as his cabinet is concerned?
Here are the top contenders, according to Reuters.
When it comes to a potential Treasury Secretary, they highlight Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of J.P. Morgan Chase, considered a strong candidate for the job, though it is far from clear that he would actually take it.
He's an opponent of what he describes as unnecessary burdensome regulations that have been posed by the Federal Reserve, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other agencies.
He would likely push for a broad rollback of those regulations should he join the administration.
They also highlight Scott Besant as the potential Treasury Secretary.
He's a key economic advisor to the president-elect, widely seen as a top candidate for Treasury Secretary, a longtime hedge fund investor who taught at Yale University for years.
He has a warm relationship with the president-elect.
While he long favored laissez-faire policies that were popular in the pre-Trump Republican Party, he also has praised his use of tariffs as a negotiating tool.
And then they highlight John Paulson as a potential Treasury Secretary, saying he's a billionaire hedge fund manager, a major Trump donor, another contender for the Treasury Secretary.
The longtime financier has told Associates he would be interested in the job.
That's just out this morning in light of yesterday's events, speculative in some cases.
But as far as in the days ahead, as far as who might emerge as candidates for the president-elect's cabinet, there's the story from Reuters.
Let's hear from Jerry.
Jerry in Texas, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Jerry in Texas.
One more time for Jerry in Crane, Texas.
Okay, Jamie in Maryland, supporter of the vice president.
Good morning.
You're next up.
Yes, I have a couple of things.
I'll try to be as brief as possible.
But I just wanted to say, for one, I think that the black and Hispanic males in particular voted against their own best interests.
Also, my other concern is Project 25 and everything that that entails.
Another concern of mine is, so I'm in the trucking industry.
So when it comes to industry, trade, and tariffs, I think that it's going to give that a really tough time, right?
And then the other thing is the health care, right?
So folks with pre-existing conditions and everything else that is under that, right?
And then my other thing is, so I'm currently, I'm 45 years old now, right?
When I was 20 years old, I caught a felony charge, just myself and another gentleman getting in an argument and, you know, things went left or whatever.
But so 25, that's 25 years ago, right?
The results of that for me have been I couldn't be on leases at apartment buildings, right?
I couldn't go on school trips with my kids to chaperon because of being a convicted felon, right?
I couldn't when it came to SBA loans.
That's the question on those applications, right?
If you're a convicted felon or not, how can you seek the highest office in the land and actually obtain that and be a convicted felon with multiple felonies?
You understand what I'm saying?
Okay.
That's Jamie there in Maryland and giving us his thoughts.
202-748-8920.
For supporters of Vice President Harris, 202-748, I'm sorry, 748-8921.
If you support the president-elect, it's 202-748-8922.
If you have supported other candidates, and you can text us at 202-748-8903.
With that, we go back to John McCurdle.
Pedro, a second ago, you were talking about potential second Trump administration officials.
And a few callers back, a caller brought up Elon Musk.
So let's focus on Elon Musk, who spent somewhere between $120 and $130 million of his own money to help get Donald Trump elected.
This is the Bloomberg politics piece on Elon Musk this morning.
No billionaire did more to help Donald Trump win the U.S. presidential election than Elon Musk.
The Tesla and SpaceX boss will now find out whether it pays off or he ends up getting burned.
For his part, Elon Musk was celebrating Donald Trump's victories last night in a series of tweets.
Here's one from close to midnight Eastern time saying, America is a nation of builders and soon you will be free to build Elon Musk.
Then after 1 a.m., saying to his followers, you are the media now.
There was this tweet, the future is going to be fantastic.
And this one as well.
The people of America gave Donald Trump a crystal clear mandate for change tonight.
Elon Musk last night in terms of what Elon Musk could be doing in a future Trump administration.
Two paragraphs from USA Today story out today.
Back in September, Trump revealed in a public speech his intentions to establish a government efficiency commission headed by Elon Musk.
While he did not detail how such a commission would operate, besides saying it would develop a plan to eliminate fraud and improper payments within six months of being formed, he did say Musk had agreed to head that body.
We'll find out more in a second Trump administration.
Let's hear from a supporter of the president-elect.
This is Ohio.
John, go ahead.
You're next.
Good morning.
Yes.
I thank you for having me on.
I want to comment on, I'm an independent, and I wanted to comment on why I voted for Trump.
And it was very plain to me when he said that he was going to do away with taxes on Social Security, tips, etc.
I favored that.
And then when Camilla said that he was wanting to bring up a federal sales tax on imports, I thought that would be a great way to supplement the Social Security system and help build it back up so that we don't lose it by the times that the experts have said.
That's all I have to say about it.
Thank you for having me.
Another Ohioan.
This is from Columbus, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
We'll hear from Lynn.
Good morning.
I would just like to say amen to the previous caller before the last one that talked about the difference the way he's treated as a felon and President Trump.
I'd like to speak to the fact that so many Christians supposedly are following him.
I'm a Christian, and I didn't.
I wonder have they ever read the scripture that says, you'll know a tree by the fruit that it bears.
And we must look at all the things that this man has done.
And his tree has rotten because there is no fruit.
Another thing is, people keep saying that he was voted in because of finances.
Are we going to always run behind the dollar?
Because the Bible also says, what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his soul?
And I feel like the United States of America has become soulless.
Thank you for listening to me.
Here is Dennis, Dennis in Massachusetts, supporter of President-elect Trump.
Go ahead.
Good morning, Pedro.
How are you doing?
Just calling in from a state that we knew our vote wouldn't count, but we're glad that the rest of America knew what to do and choose President-elect Donald Trump.
And also, I'd just like to make a comment.
I can't wait to certify the election to see what happens there, which how the Democrats will probably try not to get Mr. Trump into power.
And when it's all said and done, I can't wait for Kamala Harris to certify the vote.
Thank you, America, and God bless Donald J. Trump.
A supporter of the vice president, this is Marilyn, who's from Berkeley, California.
Hi, and thanks for allowing me to speak.
I can only echo what so many others have said who are supporters of Kamala Harris.
Trump is, they call him a businessman.
He's not a businessman.
He's a circus ringmaster.
He's a showman.
And he's never been successful in business.
How many bankruptcies has he had?
I'm 74 years old now.
I was disabled in 1989.
And I fear that my I rely on SSI and Social Security.
I fear that that's going to disappear.
I really fear that we are now in the first stage of having a dictator with everyone supporting him.
I mean, probably both houses of Congress.
I think there's no hope.
I feel tremendously sad, tremendously disappointed, and tremendously fearful.
Marilyn, in California, one of the names you've hear in Congress, if you pay attention to this network enough, is Representative Adam Schiff, who is in the House of Representatives in Congress, at least till yesterday, winning a Senate seat for California after yesterday's election.
It was after that victory that he gave his victory speech in California, and here's a portion of it.
Regardless of the outcome, regardless of the way people may have voted, I want to make one thing clear.
As your senator, I am committed to standing up for every Californian.
I am committed to taking on the big fights to protect our freedoms and to protect our democracy.
California will continue to be at the forefront of progress, the bulwark of democracy, the champion of innovation, and the protector of our rights and freedoms.
We are a big, beautiful, diverse, and generous state.
We look out for each other.
We stand up for each other.
We extend our hands to lift up each other.
We celebrate and appreciate our different backgrounds and cultures.
I've seen it firsthand.
From the first day I launched this campaign to the visits I've made to nearly every corner of the golden state.
From meeting with local leaders in the border community of Calexico to seeing the restoration of Redwoods north of Willets, I've met the most amazing people all across California.
I've listened to your concerns.
I've heard your fears.
I've shared your hopes and imagined the future that you want to see for yourselves and for your children.
And because of this, every day, I woke up energized and hopeful.
In Bakersfield, I met with entrepreneurs who turned their passion into successful small businesses that have lifted up their communities.
In Salinas, I heard from farm workers who toiled in the fields from sunrise to sundown, rain or shine, to ensure that families across the country had food on their tables.
In Oakland, I felt the joy and energy of an early morning service at the Allen Temple Baptist Church.
In Merced, I sat down with college students and heard about the careers they were building for themselves.
In Lakewood, I saw firsthand the hard and rewarding labor of child care providers.
I witnessed their patience, their kindness, and the love that they bring to their work.
Our state has its struggles, like every state, but none are insurmountable because we are the golden state and we get big things done.
And my promise to you is that I'm going to deliver on day one, week one, year one, and keep on delivering for this amazing state.
Because together there is no challenge that we cannot overcome.
We leave no community behind.
We do not stop.
We do not rest until all our citizens have a safe place to live, clean water to drink, clean air to breathe, safe neighborhoods to raise their children, good hospitals, clinics, and health care, and the best public schools in the world.
In pursuit of this dream for all our people, I will not rest California.
In the Senate, I will be a champion and voice for all Californians, whether you voted for me or not, whether you live in the big city or a small county, whether you grew up here or came to America searching for a better life.
Again, more of those victory speeches and other speeches, too, available on the website at c-span.org.
And you can follow along on the app for all the content that comes in from the election.
That's at C-SPAN now in Maryland.
A supporter of the president-elect.
This is Laura.
Hello.
Hi, how are you doing?
I just want to say that first and foremost, I was a Democrat.
I left the Democratic Party in 2008 because I woke up.
I realized that the duopoly that had been created by our political system was really moving our country further and further toward a totalitarian government.
It was Trump that upset this in 2016 because he was the outlier.
He was from the get-go, all right?
Put down, said he was a clown, he'd never win, so on and so forth.
But the American people spoke because I think a lot of people like me woke up.
And the other thing I want to say is the hypocrisy, the hypocrisy of the Democrats.
It's amazing to me.
It's like, you have got to open your eyes, people.
You have got, you're being played.
They're using a campaign of fear.
Fear is nothing more than false evidence appearing real.
They're trying to scare you.
And this my body, my choice, look what they did with the COVID mandates.
Where was my body, my choice then, when my job was on the line?
And if you want to keep on killing babies, go for it.
You'll be held accountable in the afterlife.
When you support these Democrats, you are supporting the murdering of innocent child.
And I'm going to tell you that: here's what's coming: this is their next plan.
This is their next plan because they're not done.
The Democrats are not done trying to destroy this country.
They're going to destroy the dollar.
There's going to be another catastrophe of epic proportions to try and derail this country from getting back on the right track.
Okay.
Let's hear from Carol Carol in Missouri, support of Vice President Harris.
Hello there.
Yes, thank you so much for taking my call.
And obviously, the lady that spoke before me is not a nurse.
I was.
I still am.
And I take care of many people that died from COVID.
And also, I think America made a huge mistake last night.
Terrible.
And anybody who voted for Trump, please look up JD Vance's affiliation with Curtis Yarmin.
This man is what Vance calls his influencer.
Yarvin dictates one CEO and overthrowing our government.
Please look that man up.
Trump is dangerous, and America made a huge, huge mistake.
There's Carol from Missouri giving us her thoughts, as you can do the same as we go along this morning on the phone lines via Post on X on Facebook.
You can text us to part of this network's mission is to let voices come in and talk about issues of politics like we've been doing over the last several weeks and months when it comes to campaign 2024.
We will continue doing so today.
We will also provide you with information about last night's election and things to keep aware of.
And with that, joining us for that, John McCartney Pedro, I want to keep viewers aware of what's going on in the Senate.
We know Republicans will control the Senate in the 119th Congress.
We just don't know how large that majority will be.
Right now, they have 52 seats in the Senate in the 119th Congress.
There's six races yet to be called.
Five of them are battleground states.
Right now, Republicans lead in two of them.
Democrats lead in three of them.
So we'll see where that final number stands.
But let me run through those battleground states.
There's five Senate seats that we've been watching so closely all cycle long, including in Pennsylvania, where Dave McCormick, the Republican, is leading Senator Bob Casey, the Democrat, by less than 1% in that race.
97% of votes have been reported in the Keystone State.
We'll continue to watch that.
To Michigan, where Democrat Alyssa Slotkin has been neck and neck for hours and pretty much all night long with Republican Mike Rogers in that open seat there.
98% reporting.
It was a Democratic district.
Debbie Stabenow stepping down, and this is the race to replace her in the Senate to replace that seat in the Senate.
And then we'll move on to Wisconsin, to the Badger state.
Tammy Baldwin, Senator Baldwin there, leading 49.4% to Eric Hovedes, 48.5%.
It's 99% reporting.
We're waiting for the final votes out of Wisconsin.
And then we take you to Arizona, the Grand Canyon state, where Ruben Gallego is trying to take that seat held by Kristen Sinema, who is retiring.
Ruby Gallego, of course, facing Kerry Lake in that state.
Kerry Lake running for governor last cycle, now running for Senate.
Ruby Gallego up by several percentage points there, but it's only 60% reporting in Arizona.
And then one more to Nevada.
It's the silver state of Nevada.
Sam Brown, the Republican, leading by just the barest of margins, 47.3% to 47.2% for Senator Jackie Rosen, the Democrat.
They're still a little ways to go.
16% of the votes left to be counted, 84% of the vote in.
That's where the Senate stands right now.
We know it's going to take a little bit longer for the House races to come in.
We've been trying to track some of those key House races, those races that have been targeted this cycle by each party.
And one of them is Republican Senator Don Bacon in Nebraska's 2nd District.
This is the headline out of the Nebraska Examiner this morning.
Bacon leading the Democrat in that race.
We'll let you see what the vote numbers are yourself in the 2nd District of Nebraska.
Don Bacon, right now, with 51.4% to Tony Vargas, the Democrats, 48.6%.
And it's almost all in at that point, 99% reporting.
The Associated Press, though, has not called that race yet.
We'll continue to watch that one, one of the key House battlegrounds that we've been tracking all cycle long.
In Colorado, this is Nicholas on those who supported others this election cycle.
Nicholas, go ahead.
Hi, how's it going?
I just wanted to go and just point out that, you know, this election cycle is very interesting.
From Biden to the turncoat with JFK and his move to go with the Republicans, I went with Jill Stein, and the reason why I did that was simply because out of all the candidates, nobody was calling for an end to the war outright.
However, I wasn't caught up with all the fear-mongering and saying that democracy was going to fail if you go blue, or democracy is going to fail if you go red.
I am a little bit more interested to see what happens now that looking at the trends, it looks like all forms of branches of our government is going to be Republican-run.
And I just really want people to go and kind of take a step back.
And we've gone through four years before.
We went through four years with Biden.
We kind of know what Democrats and Republicans both do.
I just don't believe this is going to be a true democracy until we have a third party coming in.
And that's pretty much it.
I just wanted everybody.
I've been hearing a lot of people calling in and saying, oh, I'm going to leave the country.
We have a lot of issues facing our nation.
But at the same time, we got to go and take a step back because not every Republican is going to vote down every bill that we support, and not every Democrat is going to vote down every single bill that we have.
I'm just curious to see what will happen now with Trump, now that he has the Senate and Booking so far, like the House.
Okay.
So that's just going to be interesting.
Supporter of the Vice President, this is from New Hampshire.
Cutler, good morning.
You're next up.
Yes.
Butler from New Hampshire.
I'm an 83-year-old Navy veteran.
I was born two months before Pearl Harbor and history.
And as I was observing what was going on, it seemed to be the same playbook that Hitler was using.
And that was attack the media, pick on a minority group, scapegoat them.
So it was based on kind of fear and hate.
And it's sad.
I mean, when you have people in the administration that said this man is not fit to be president again, we're supposed to listen to that.
I guess we don't listen to history.
We're afraid to deal with facts.
You know, they started calling him a fascist.
Well, he is.
He says, I wanted to be a dictator from day one.
He didn't want to leave office.
Any veteran that voted for this guy, he attacked John McCain, a hero who suffered immensely.
And he said, like me, anybody in the military was a sucker and a loser.
So, and do you want your children to talk like this man has talked against everybody that's not white?
Okay.
Okay, let's go to Ed.
Ed in California, supporter of the president-elect.
Oh, hey, how are you doing today?
Kind of quick and brief.
Fifth generation Californian, not happy with the way it is today.
Unfortunately, of course, my people came to this country in the 1660s from Norway.
But anyway, long story short, I'm manufacturing.
I'm a tool and dye maker of 50 years here in Silicon Valley.
Worked at the great Livermore Lab back in the 80s, seen how the government works and know a whole bunch.
And we got a lot of smart people out here in California, or we used to, the U-Haul state, as we call it.
I wish the rest of the country could smarten up a little bit.
Manufacturing's number one in trade is very important.
You trade for what you need, not for what you want.
We don't need cheap Chinese goods in our country.
We can make those ourselves.
You got shirts that fall apart with five washes.
We don't need cheap clothes made in other countries.
We can make those ourselves.
When was the last time a pair of jeans lasted more than five or six washes before the buttons start falling off?
I mean, let's think about this, people.
We won World War II because of our manufacturing capabilities.
And that's why we turned our auto plants into great manufacturing, war machine manufacturing capability places to do it in.
And there's no fact.
Those are all facts, okay?
Okay.
That's that there in California and New Jersey.
Vice President Harris supporter Stephanie, you're up next.
Hi.
Hi, how are you?
Fine, thank you.
Go ahead.
I'm sad that Vice President Harris did not win.
All I hear is the Democrats this and the Democrats that.
I mean, we get blamed for everything.
And I just, one caller said that we must have amnesia.
I mean, nobody seems to remember the last two years of Donald Trump's presidency when the country was involved in COVID.
So therefore, nobody was going anywhere.
So, of course, and they had to, you know, they had this big supply of gas, and they had to get rid of it somehow.
So they lowered the prices.
Makes sense to me.
Have a good day, guys.
From Joe in Virginia, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hi there.
Hey, good morning.
Yeah, I was the seventh person to vote at my local precinct.
I got there before the doors even opened.
And I've been hoping and praying that Trump would win and that we'd get the socialists out because he left our country in the best shape it's ever been in history.
All the socialists did is they tore it down, destroyed it.
And if I don't believe that America or the world could take another four years that her socialists fail, I mean, that's all they do is destroy America, work for America's enemies and illegals.
And that's why you got these wars going on, because the socialists give boatloads of cash to Iran to fund these terrorist groups.
And of course, all the dirt they do, they sweep under the rug.
And they're the ones that never want to work with the Republicans.
Remember Trump's first term?
He didn't even set foot in the White House for his first day.
And they were crying, impeach, impeach, and they always come up with these lies and slanders.
And, you know, it's just ridiculous.
Nobody in history has ever been as vilified or as attacked as they have by the Department of Justice, FBI, et cetera, the deep state swamp, which is Hillary, Obama, Harris, Biden.
Okay.
So thank God.
That's Joe there in Virginia there.
Again, calling in, as many of you have the course of this morning.
And we've also been giving you plenty of information, too, about the results of the election.
That's the job John McCartle is doing in a great manner this morning.
John McCartney, take it away.
Page here, some information of what's on the C-SPAN networks today.
This tweet from Jake Sherman noting that Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, will hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Eastern today in the Capitol.
C-SPAN is going to be taking that.
We'll take our viewers here on the Washington Journal to that live at 11:30, and we'll, of course, stay with it as long as that news conference goes.
It'll be interesting for viewers to watch to see who's with Mitch McConnell at that press conference, if he's going to appear alone or not, because senators, the Republicans, have taken the Senate in the 119th Congress.
And we know that Mitch McConnell is stepping down as leader of Senate Republicans, and it's a race to see who's going to replace him.
It's a secret ballot that's going to take place on November the 13th.
Republican senators will vote for their new leader.
And right now, the race, as Fortune magazine notes, is between the two Johns or perhaps a strong Trump ally, as Fortune writes in its headline.
The two Johns are John Thune of South Dakota.
He's the current number two in the Senate Republican leadership.
And John Cornyn, who previously held that number two position.
John Cornyn is the Republican senator from Texas.
The strong Trump ally there is Rick Scott of Florida, the Republican winning his reelection easily last night.
If you want to get a sense of what John Cornyn and John Thune look like, John Cornyn on the left in that post from the NPR story, John Thune is the one on the right.
So we'll see what happens at 11:30 if it's just Mitch McConnell or if there's anybody else with him.
One more tweet wanted to make viewers aware of.
This just came out about 15 minutes ago.
JD Vance, the vice president-elect, with his first tweet of the morning saying simply thank you to my beautiful wife for making it possible to do this, to President Donald J. Trump for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level, and to the American people for their trust.
I will never stop fighting for all of you all in capital letters there.
About this time on a normal day, we'd be saying goodbye, but we go on for two more hours as we bring you an extended program today to let you talk about and give your thoughts on yesterday's election, 202-748-8920.
If you support Vice President Harris, if you support President-elect Trump, 202-748-8921.
If you supported other candidates and voted for other candidates, 202-748-8922.
And if you want to text us your thoughts about the election, that's 202-748-8903.
Post on Facebook at facebook.com slash C-SPAN.
New Hampshire starts us off.
That's where Judy is, former President-elect Trump.
Judy, good morning.
Well, I am really happy, and I was up till 3 o'clock this morning to find out the results.
So I'm extremely happy.
But I need to make a comment.
So many people call in about the COVID and how Trump killed all these people.
I want you to think about something.
And if you could find the video, you had Trump that said he wanted to stop China from coming over from airlines.
And Nancy Pelosi was totally, you called him a racist.
Then she's dancing in the street in Chinatown saying, see, there's no virus.
It was Fauci who made all the decisions.
It was Fauci who had the funding for that.
It was Fauci who killed all these people.
Okay, about to relitigate that, Era, but as far as yesterday is concerned specifically, what are your thoughts towards that?
I think our country is going to be in good hands.
We're going to see some really good changes.
As a small business owner, I have been crucified.
So I wish the Republicans would stand behind.
I'm saying that wrong.
I want the Republicans to completely unite, and I wish the Democrats would unite with us.
We united with them to a degree.
There was some arguments, but I think if the country could come together, we would all be so much better off.
Okay.
Let's hear from Terry.
Terry in Illinois, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Good morning.
Good morning.
Yes, I'd like to thank the American people for electing a convicted felon to the White House.
What a disgrace for the American people.
And for the people out there saying that Donald Trump was the worst prosecuted president, let's all think back to President Clinton and all the scandals.
And they were talking, the same people were saying he needs to be thrown in jail.
He's a convicted rapist and all this.
And yet here we are, the party of family values voted for adjudicated rapists and a convicted felon.
Shame on America.
Alina in Illinois, a supporter of the president-elect.
Hello.
Yes, good morning, Pedro.
It's a great morning.
The rainbows are shining.
This election has proved that there is God out there.
That administration of Harris Biden, Biden Harris, was a demonic administration, okay?
The Democrats were praying to a devil, okay?
And if it wasn't taken down, let me tell you, it would be chaotic.
We would turn into a thorough world.
That's what they were trying to do to us because the globalists were controlling the whole scenario.
That includes Bill Gates, Soros, George Soros, and yeah, so basically the Democrats, they are the ones who are spewing the trail right now.
Okay, it's a continuous vitral.
And I feel sorry for you, Pedro, because you have to play like a psychiatrist.
They should be calling to a psychiatrist, not to you, okay?
Okay, let's hear from a viewer in Virginia, Stanton, Virginia, our line for those who supported and voted for others.
David, go ahead.
Good morning, C-SPAN.
Thanks for taking my call.
Yeah, I did vote for an independent.
I voted for the Libertarian candidate, Chase Oliver.
And the reason was that he stands for no wars.
The Libertarians in general have the policy of smaller government, staying out of your pocketbook, and staying out of your bedroom.
So their message is pretty much like, to some degree, like the more conventional Republicans.
But on the two candidates that actually had a chance to win, I couldn't vote for Trump because of all of his rhetoric and insults of people and how he threw his own people under the bus when he was president.
In the case of Harris, my disappointment was the Democrats anointed her after Biden dropped out or was forced out, which I really believe he was forced out.
So anyway, so that was one of the things.
And then she changed her positions on a lot of things just to be favorable to the elections.
She should have picked Shapiro to be her running mate.
She could have maybe won Pennsylvania.
So there's a number of things that Trump's policies, I'm fairly close to those, but so was the Libertarian Party.
So that's pretty much my reasons.
Thank you.
David there in Virginia.
Let's hear from South Carolina.
Teresa, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Yes, I'm calling because a lot of people have been calling and stating that we need the special Republicans saying that we need to come together as a country unite.
Well, who was it that divided us?
It was Trump when he first became president.
He brought all this devices, rhetoric, and now we have to go to the polls.
We have to have guards at the polls.
We have to have police there at the polls.
We're having people who are bombing poll sites, bombing ballot boxes where you drop your ballots.
None of this existed until Trump became first president.
Now you have debates.
Now the mics has to be muted before one person gets talked and then mute the other person.
None of this existed until Trump became president the first time.
All this devices rhetoric, all of a sudden, kumbaya, they want us to come together.
And they talk about immigration.
We have to remember that this is the United States crossed the border, not Mexico.
United States crossed the border.
So that's food for thought.
Who is the real invaders of this country?
Okay, Margaret is a supporter of the president-elect.
Margaret, good morning.
Go ahead.
You're next.
Pedro, good morning.
How are you?
I'm well, thank you.
Good.
I am such a happy woman this morning that Trump won.
I've been very nervous that Kamala was going to win.
You know, I love my country.
And that's why I voted for Trump.
And I was so happy when I went to vote yesterday, Election Day, which is the day you're supposed to vote.
And they said, would you like a paper or would you like to use a computer?
I said, I'm like a paper ballot.
And they gave me a paper ballot.
And it was such a relief to vote for Trump.
And I've been up all morning.
That's why it sounds so crazy.
But just hoping and praying that he won.
And God bless our country.
God bless everybody that voted for Trump.
It's a new beginning.
It's a new dawn.
Okay, Tony there in Indiana, support of the vice president.
Yes.
They're not wanting to admit what's going on, what they are.
Donald Trump, with his words and his actions, is a fascist.
They support him.
They're a fascist.
This country is now a fascist country on the level with Russia, on the level with China, on the level with North Korea, and Venezuela.
And it's all because they're following a convicted criminal who shouldn't even be running for office anyway.
Okay, that's Tony there in Indiana.
We head back to John McCartney.
Pedro, just a note that the U.S. stock market is open and the stock market is up this morning, and it's up pretty big.
This is the Fox News tweet on it saying the stock market is soaring to a new all-time high after President elect Trump's victory.
We'll show you some charts on what it looks like.
The Dow soaring nearly 1,300 points, Bitcoin rocketing, yields jump as Trump declares victory.
That's a story from MarketWatch Truth Social getting special attention this morning.
That's Donald Trump's media company.
This is the New York Times story looking at the surges in the Trump media stock.
That's the stock that owns the Truth Social social media page.
The New York Times reporting that stock rose as much as 30% in early trading after the stock was the most heavily traded in the hours before the official market opening.
Donald Trump owning a 57% of stake in Trump media worth more than $5 billion.
Its share price has more than doubled from its low point just from September, but at around $42 a share, it remains below its record, which was about $66 a share shortly after making its Wall Street debut back in March.
But the stock market is very much up this morning.
Eddie.
Eddie is in Massachusetts, a supporter of President-elect Trump on yesterday's election.
Eddie, good morning.
You're next.
Yeah, good.
I'm glad I got through.
The name coin is awful.
The guy just says fascist.
Don't they realize that fascists started in Italy in the late 20s after Stalin got into office?
So which is better, the communists or a fascist?
Earlier this morning, a lawyer calls up saying it's civil rights.
The women have a right.
It's civil to kill your baby.
That's ridiculous.
The main thing, though, is the economy.
I'm afraid for the dollar.
China's selling their bonds.
They had $2 trillion in bonds.
Now they got only $700 billion.
Gold is going through the roof.
Cyber currency has gone through the roof.
But if a dollar collapses, you'll be buying European cars in Euros.
You'll be buying Asian cars in wands and yens.
Please control the budget.
Okay, Trina is next.
In Connecticut, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Yes.
Hello.
I woke up disheartened this morning because a convicted felon is at the helm of our nation now, opening doors to even wider sexism, racism, oppression, and disenfranchisement for many people of color.
Big business and privatization and economic greed and corporate indifference is going to raise our prices even more.
Lord help it for Medicare and Medicaid, redlining and centrification, all of those things that we experience.
I'm 74 years old, and I know what it is to have gone through all of this type of craziness that we went through back in the 50s and the 60s.
Oppressive rules for women and race hatred and legalized violence.
And those who have voted for Trump, Vance, and Musk will come to regret their choice.
And I hope that moving ahead that we fight for morality, economic fairness, and unity within our country.
Let that be top of the ticket and pray for America.
It was in the early morning hours before the president-elect received enough Electoral College votes to make him the president-elect that Donald Trump appeared before his supporters to talk to them about what he was seeing at the time of election results.
Here's a portion of that from early today.
Help our country heal.
We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly.
We're going to fix our borders.
We're going to fix everything about our country.
We made history for a reason tonight, and the reason is going to be just that.
We overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible, and it is now clear that we've achieved the most incredible political thing.
Look what happened.
Is this crazy?
But it's a political victory that our country has never seen before.
Nothing like this.
I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president.
And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and your future.
Every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body.
I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve.
This will truly be the golden age of America.
That's what we have to have.
Let's hear from Sean.
Sean is in Florida, supporter of the president-elect.
Sean, you are up.
Go ahead.
Hey, hi, Pedro.
It's a great day in America with this big victory.
I'd like to thank Lara Trump, but the vitriol coming from the liberals, and I believe it's caused by the fourth branch of government, which is the media, which is you guys, Pedro.
I'd be interested, Pedro, who you voted for.
Who did you vote for, Pedro?
We won't say.
I'm just curious.
We won't say.
Anything else?
No, I'm just curious.
You know, we beat the communists.
You know, you shouldn't hate people that love America.
Trump loves America.
They've tortured him for how many years have they tortured him since he came down the escalator?
This country won.
We'll get our country back, and people need to go to jail.
Thank you.
Jacob, up next in Arkansas, our line for those who supported others, voted for others this cycle.
Jacob in Arkansas, hello.
Hey, good morning.
How are you?
Fine, thank you.
Yeah, you know, I, you know, I'm an independent, and so I kind of lost in this election.
Unfortunately, my candidate, oh, he lost.
We were supposed to have a sweep.
Specifically, I voted for Peter Sonski, and I knew he wasn't going to win, but I like to think I'm an individual that votes based on whose policies are the best.
Okay.
Why did you think his policies were the best?
So I like his economic policy.
He believes in a distributist economic model, which emphasizes local businesses, worker cooperatives, and broad property ownership.
And he also favors strong social programs and universal health care.
Was this someone who was actually on the ballot, or did you have to write him in?
He was on the ballot in Arkansas.
Okay.
What do you think about this idea that sometimes if you vote for an independent or third party, you're kind of wasting your vote?
Yeah, my friends say that to me all the time.
And though there's an argument that could be made that, oh, well, since we live in a de facto two-party system, that you kind of are forced to vote for one or the other, that best is least worse, I guess, is a way to put it.
But I don't believe in that.
I believe that exact mindset is the reason we're in this situation.
That's Jacob there, Arkansas.
Again, that others line.
As you heard several of our callers this morning about those who decided not to vote for the two main candidates and telling us why on the phone line, 202748-8922 is that phone line.
If you want to call in and express your thoughts there, you can text us at 202-748-8903.
A support of the vice president.
We'll hear from Ann in Tennessee.
Good morning.
You're next up.
Boy, that's really the big joke.
The American people have really been brainwashed by Trump.
You know, he could have closed the border in 2020.
He allowed 5,000 refugees to come from Central America.
He didn't stop them.
He didn't deport them.
He didn't enforce the legal immigration policy.
What he really did was he separated thousands of minor children from their parents.
And he put the refugees that were seeking us all of in the United States.
He put them in cages.
I saw it.
You know, he's heartless.
He's a heartless man.
He's for the rich.
He gave the 83% of the $2 trillion tax cut.
He gave it to the wealthiest corporations and the millionaires, the billionaires, like that billionaire that was helping him get elected.
Okay.
There should be a limit on how much people donated to a candidate.
There should be a limit.
Okay.
Ann there in Tennessee giving us her thoughts.
We're back to John McCartle.
Pedro, I've been watching members as they're up and on social media this morning in the wake of last night's elections.
Here's one from Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, the Republican, saying, For four years, Democrats tried to put Donald Trump behind bars, take him off state ballots, and convince the American people he was a fascist dictator.
The American people have spoken and they aren't buying it.
On the idea of putting him behind bars, there's this story from Politico.
Say goodbye to Trump's legal cases is the headline there, the subheadline on that story.
The criminal candidate will now effectively be his own judge and jury.
This, just a couple paragraphs from that story.
Trump's imminent return to the White House shatters years of work by special counsel Jack Smith to convict Trump for his attempt to subvert the 2020 election and for the stockpile of classified documents he kept at his Florida estate.
It halts the prosecution he is facing in Georgia for his 2020 election plot as well.
It almost certainly allows Trump to postpone any sentence on his New York conviction for covering up a hush money scheme in 2016.
In short, political rights, the president-elect is now his own judge and jury, insulated from the criminal consequences he might have faced without the legal force field of the Oval Office.
Willard joins us from Wyoming, a supporter of President-elect Trump.
Willard, hello.
Good morning.
How are you?
I'm well, thank you.
Go ahead, please.
Yes, I'm more of a curious.
I've been listening for maybe an hour and a half, and I've noticed that no one has said anything about the popular vote.
That, you know, it was before everyone was talking we should go off a bit, but no one's talking about that anymore.
Also, I want to say that I did vote for Donald Trump.
I think he's a unifier.
I think that we should all keep an open mind and let's see what happens.
I also want to say more of a prayer for the 320,000-plus children, illegal immigrants, under the Harris and Biden regime that they cannot find.
Maybe Donald Trump can help out.
Well, because you referenced it, are you a fan of the popular vote versus the Electoral College?
No, sir, I am not.
But it's just I've watched C-SPAM before, and a lot of people have said they like the electoral, I mean the popular vote more.
They'd rather go that way.
And I don't agree with it, but I've noticed no one's talking about that anymore.
Okay.
Well, ask and you shall receive.
Here's John McCartle.
Pedro, I'll update that color on the popular vote.
Right now, Donald Trump is leading in the popular vote with 71,390,231 votes so far, 51% of the popular vote to Kamala Harris's, 47.5% of the popular vote.
66,454,555 votes in the 2024 election for the vice president.
A reminder: Donald Trump might be able to surpass his 2020 vote total with votes still coming in.
Back in 2020, he received 74 million votes in the popular vote, though Joe Biden received more than 80 million votes in the 2020 election.
For the electoral vote, it's 270 to win.
If Donald Trump sweeps the four remaining states that haven't been called yet, that is Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, and Alaska.
He would end up with 314 electoral votes.
That would be more than the 304 electoral votes that he won with back in 2016.
Back in 2020, he was able to get 232 electoral votes losing to Joe Biden in 2020.
That's the update on the popular and the electoral votes.
I'm McCartle doing the homework for us this morning.
Thank you very much.
Let's hear from Georgia, Georgia, supporter of Vice President Harris in Washington State.
Hello.
Yes, I wanted to say that even though I did vote for Harris, I'm looking to mention about the fact of Trump being the president-elect, that if he's going to be a better representative of our country, he needs to eliminate having a nepotism in the office with his daughter, his son-in-law,
and various others that have done the same, like McConnell with his wife being the transportation secretary.
They need to eliminate all the nepotism in office.
And also with the corporate side of things, then they remove these lobbyists that influence and have a greater, say, presence for making it being about the establishment rather than about the people.
That's Georgia there in Washington State.
James from North Carolina, on our line for those who supported and voted for others.
Hello.
Good morning, Prague Girl.
I'd just like to say briefly that with the Republicans getting in the White House and taking over Congress and taking over the Supreme Court, the country now has put in place all the pieces it needs to establish its American apartheid system.
Ever since the demographic or the statistical reports came out several years ago, probably 10 years ago, it said that the minorities at some point, I think in 2040, they said would become the majority.
I knew at that point right then, I said these folks that are in power now will burn this country to the ground before they give up power.
So now you've got the pieces in place to do what you want to do.
The Roe versus Wade was a test case.
That was a test case to see how folks are going to react when the Supreme Court took back somebody's rights.
So if you sit back and you analyze and look at what's going on, that's what's happening here.
That's what it's all about.
The folks that are in power, maintaining and keeping power.
Dela Rett, Delaret in Connecticut, a supporter of President-elect Trump.
Hello.
Hello.
You're on.
Go ahead.
Thank you for having me on.
I left the Democratic Party about a year ago to become independent.
And initially, you know, I really was excited about Kennedy.
I still really champion a lot of the things that he talks about, especially as a mother and looking out, you know, for my children and their future.
I did end up voting for Trump, and a lot of it has to do with that, with their future.
And I just see that all of the money is getting spent on wars and immigration.
And it makes me worried about what our future will be and what our kids' future will be.
That's Delarette in Connecticut.
Again, if you want to reach out to us and connect with us on the phone lines, if you supported Vice President Harris on Election Day, 202-748-8920.
If you supported the president-elect Donald Trump, 202-748-8921.
If you supported other candidates, call us at 202-748-8922.
And you can always text us at 202-748-8903.
John in California, on our line for those who supported and voted for other candidates.
Hello.
John in Santa Rosa, hello.
Let's hear from Susan.
Susan in Ohio, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi there.
Good morning.
Why, listening to your program this morning, just a few things.
Transgenders have seemed to have called in many times this morning.
And if you read Trump's executive order for prisoners to have surgery change if it's needed, why you can Google that up and read that for yourself.
We also have 21,000 plants being built in this country right now that the products will be stamped made in the USA.
And I know that for a fact because I have a family member, Hed Honshu, at one of those plants here in Ohio.
We also have 60,000 crumbling infrastructures being replaced, repaired, and whatnot, lead pipes, water pipes, bridges, and so forth.
We have lower drug costs.
Mike Johnson is saying he's going to eliminate the Obamacare, and that will also take away your pre-existing illnesses.
So for all that said, why do you think that Vice President Harris didn't win yesterday?
Well, that's exactly what I'm wondering myself.
It just didn't stand.
I don't think she brought it forward enough about the plants being built and the infrastructure being built, replaced, or repaired.
The pre-existing illness, we've known for a very long time that it is in the Obamacare.
And if you shut that down, those with cancer, diabetes, heart disease, children born defective, your insurance company can just throw you off and that's it.
And I lived through that era, and they did do that, just like they're doing with homes where there's flood and hurricanes and whatnot.
Susan, let me ask you one more question.
What did you think about your longtime senator, Sherrod Brown, losing his race yesterday?
I was deeply saddened by it.
He's always stood behind the farmers and the manufacturing, the same as John Tester.
I feel those two men were they just couldn't have been better in their jobs.
I mean, Bernie, I mean, you can read his court records of not paying his employees and destroying evidence.
So, I mean, it's just like sending one criminal after another into Washington.
But hey, you know, who am I?
Okay, that's Susan there in Ohio.
Sherrod Brown losing his race to Bernie Moreno after that was concluded yesterday.
He went before his supporters with his concession speech.
Here's a portion.
We may be tempted to say hope was not enough.
We might be tempted to second guess ourselves and question whether we worked hard enough or long enough.
That is not our story tonight.
We believe that all work has dignity.
We always will.
We believe in the power of people over corporate special interests.
We always will.
We believe if you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work.
We always will.
This is a disappointment, but it is not a failure.
It will never be wrong.
It will never be wrong to fight for organized labor.
It will never be wrong to fight for the freedom of women to make their health care decisions.
It surely will never be wrong.
It surely will never be wrong to fight for civil rights and human rights.
Tonight I'm sad, but I'm never giving up, and neither is Connie.
No way.
In the light of day, I know most of you are never giving up either.
I'll close the same way I've closed pretty much every speech in my career fighting for Ohio because the values I fight for have not changed.
They will never change.
In my lapel, I wear this pen.
Depict me a canary in her birdcage.
You might have heard this before.
It was given to me decades ago by a steel worker at a Workers Memorial Day rally in Lorraine.
You know the story.
At the turn of the century, coal miners took the canary down in the mines with them to warn them of poisonous gas.
The mine worker in those days knew he didn't have a union strong enough or a government that cared enough to look out for him.
He was on his own.
Over the last century and a half, we have done so much to change that.
All of those fights required going up against powerful special interests.
I think about the lesson that any union organizer knows.
They don't just give you fair wages, safe workplaces, good benefits.
They don't just give it to you.
You go out and take it.
That's how progress, that's how progress has always worked in this country.
Wall Street and corporations just didn't say one day, you know, people work so hard out there.
We ought to have Social Security and we ought to have an eight-hour day and time and a half and a ban on child labor.
No, we fought for it, we demanded it, and we got it.
And the big insurance companies just didn't all of a sudden say, you know, a lot of people are sick.
We ought to provide seniors health care.
No, we fought for it, we demand it, and we got Medicare.
And in the 1960s, a bunch of segregationist Southern senators didn't just decide one day, you know, everybody ought to be able to vote in this country.
No, we fought for it, we demand it, and we got voting rights.
And then, and then last year, then last year, politicians didn't all of a sudden say, you know, we really ought to stop interfering in women's personal health care decisions.
Of course not.
We fought for abortion rights in Ohio.
We demanded it and we got it.
In all those fights, progress didn't happen on its own.
We know there are so many fights still ahead.
When I first came to the Senate, like all new senators, they gave me one of those really expensive, fancy pieces of jewelry.
You could kind of walk around and I'm a senator.
I'm a big deal.
I wore it for a couple days, but it just didn't feel right, so I took it off and I put my canary pin back on.
And I've worn that canary pin every day since.
So tonight, nothing changes.
I don't take off this pen.
I'm not giving up on our fight for workers, and I know you won't either.
Thank you.
Senator Sheriff Brown from yesterday, CNBC reporting that the vice president expected to call the president-elect today to concede and will also make a public concession speech according to two aides to the vice president.
It's unclear when she is expected to speak publicly, but the candidate's been working on a speech according to one of her aides.
The CNBC report also saying that President Biden is also planning to call the former president to congratulate him and wants to do the things that the former president didn't do when the president was elected in 2020, according to a White House official.
That includes inviting him to the White House and attending his inauguration, according to that official.
Let's hear from Sean in Georgia, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hi.
Hi, how are you doing?
Fine, go ahead, please.
Yes.
I'd just like to say I'm not too thrilled that Trump is in office again, but it is what it is.
So we have to deal with it and let this be.
This will be his last time that he can run for president, and that's it.
And I do hope that everything will, you know, be fine.
But I also hope that people really need to leave God out of this, because that's like saying God is in favor of, you know, Republicans this time, and they're not in favor.
God is not in favor for Democrats.
You know, God has no favorites.
We're all his children, you know, bottom line.
And, you know, and as far as this transgender stuff and men being in there with girl sports, I'm really hoping that's not true.
I haven't seen any of it.
I've heard about it.
But if that's the case, I don't agree with it.
And I also would say that if that's the case, then girls also do not need to be involved in, you know, boy sports, you know, playing baseball, basketball, whatever sports, you know, with the boys.
Okay.
Let's go to Tim.
Tim in Illinois, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Yeah, good morning.
Thank you for taking my call.
I voted for Trump because the policies.
I think the inflation's been going out of style and going crazy.
And also, I think the border has been an issue for a lot of people.
And I think the wars around the world and what's happening, I think that's the reason why a lot of people voted for Trump.
Maybe some Democrats and Republicans both voted for those type of issues.
And it's my prayer that Democrats, I have some Democrat friends, and I just pray that all of us get together and make this country a better place to live.
And I hope for the best for this country and this world.
Teresa is in Missouri, tells us she did not vote.
Teresa, good morning.
Good morning.
First of all, I want to thank everyone that went out and talked to people and stuff like that.
Now, I'm not a fan of Trump, never was, because what he says, he's nasty.
He, you know, how can a criminal go get into the White House?
I don't get it.
But I always will back up my country.
I lived in Detroit.
I was there when the riots broke out.
I held my friend who was shot.
He died in my arms.
We got to stop this fighting.
We got to get together.
This is the United States of America.
We are the most best country in the world.
Okay.
That's Teresa in Missouri.
We'll go back to John McCarnell.
Pedro, as you know, in about 45 minutes, we're going to take viewers on C-SPAN to Mitch McConnell's press conference.
Republicans having taken control of the Senate in the 119th Congress.
Mitch McConnell, the current Senate Minority Leader.
He will not be the majority leader in the 119th Congress.
That's yet to be decided.
A secret ballot among Senate Republicans set to be held on November 13th for that.
So watch for news down the road.
But I did want to give you an update on where the Senate races stand right now.
Republicans have at least 52 seats in the 119th Congress in the United States Senate.
There are six Senate races to be called.
Five of them are in Battleground States.
Republicans lead in two of them.
Democrats lead in three of them.
Let's just run through where those are so viewers can stay up to date as we try to figure out how big the Republican majority will be in the 119th Congress.
In the Keystone state of Pennsylvania, Dave McCormick, the Republican, leading Senator Bob Casey there by a little less than 1%, 97% of the votes in Pennsylvania.
In Michigan, in that open seat race, Alyssa Slotkin, the Democrat, is leading just barely against Republican Mike Rogers.
It's 0.1% with 98% reporting.
This one expected to go a while longer still, and this one has been close and neck and neck all night long.
In the state of Wisconsin, it's Senator Tammy Baldwin leading by about one percentage point over Eric Hubde, the Republican, 49.4% to 48.5%.
Again, it's almost all of the vote counted there so far, 99%.
In the state of Arizona, it's Ruben Gallego in that open seat race, the Democrat leading with 50.4% against Kerry Lake, the Republican, with 47.6%, 40% of the vote still to be counted in the Grand Canyon state.
And then we'll take you to the silver state of Nevada.
It's Sam Brown, the Republican, leading, but just barely.
47.3% to Senator Jackie Rosen.
The Democrats, 47.2%.
There's still 16% of the vote yet to be counted.
That's the latest on the Senate race, though I did mention Tammy Baldwin in Wisconsin.
I want to read her tweet that she put out just around 5:30 a.m. this morning.
The voters have spoken and our campaign has won.
She said, Wisconsinites chose someone who always puts them first, shows up, listens, and works with everyone to get the job done, saying, I'm proud to head back to the Senate to keep fighting for our workers and farmers and families.
And the tweet goes on from there.
The Associate Press has not called this race, though.
And as we just showed you, it is still very close.
And then one more tweet wanted to show you this morning.
This from Sheldon Whitehouse in the safely blue state of Rhode Island.
But Sheldon Whitehouse putting out a tweet this morning just after 10 a.m. from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series.
This is the quote that he puts out this morning saying, I wish it need not have happened in my time, said Frodo.
And so do I, said Gandalf, and so do all who live to see such times.
But that is not for them to decide.
All we have to decide is what we do with the time that is given to us.
Again, that quote from Tolkien from Lord of the Rings.
From Steve, Steve's in New York, a supporter of Vice President Harris.
Hello.
Hi, thank you for taking my call.
You know, Bill Clinton would have won, with his positions that he took in the 90s, would have won in the landslide.
Universal health care, maternity leave, strong support for Israel, having an anti-war stance, respect for the laws, basic, basic common sense, all principles that the Democrats had for the last 50, 60 years.
I'm a white, you know, cis male that that is really being rejected by my own party.
Instead, they focused on transgender issues, affirmative care for children, which is really something that 90, 80, 90% of people that I know think is abhorrent.
Women, men playing in women's sports, which again, 90% of my circle of people think that that's abhorrent.
You know, calling the other side Nazis, fascists, constantly.
If we focus on the issues that really affect 90% of people, universal health care, you know, good, good conditions for working.
I think you heard the speech before.
He talked about what the Democrats brought to this country, eight-hour workdays, a good living wage, and these things.
None of these were talked about.
It was all about, I'm a female.
I'm black.
Things that people just can't relate to when at the end of the day they have to pay for their bills and they have to worry about a hospital bill or they have to worry about college tuition.
And I'm expected to convince people that what matters is that 0.1% of people can get surgeries for certain things that are not related or relatable to 99% of people.
Okay, that's Steve Bayer in New York.
We'll go back to John McCartle.
Pedro, I just want to drop in.
We've been talking about the Kamala Harris concession speech.
Timing on that, at least according to Reuters White House correspondent, Andita Bose is her name, with a tweet just a few minutes ago saying that Kamala Harris will deliver her concession speech around 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
That's according to two sources.
Look for more exact timing today, and of course, look for C-SPAN's coverage of that event.
Thank you, sir.
Let's go here from John in Denton, Texas, a supporter of the vice president.
Good morning.
Thank you for taking my call.
Thank you for being objective.
Your honor, go ahead.
I've never seen, I do not see, and I never will see a halo over Donald Trump's head.
The same goes for any president.
God bless America.
John there in Denton, Texas.
One of the news stories going into the election was the state of the race of the Texas Senate featuring Ted Cruz against his challenger, Colin Aldred.
It was Ted Cruz who would ultimately win another term in the Senate.
After finding out that, he went before his supporters to give a speech.
Here's a portion of it.
But tonight, the people of Texas have spoken.
And their message rings clear as a bell across our great state.
Texas will remain Texas.
You know, the media were ready to write off Texas.
And Chuck Shilmer poured in more than $100 million to our state.
Well, I want to say thank you, Chuck.
And I hope we win a few more Senate seats tonight, because you wasted so much money in Texas.
They deployed every trick, every lie, and every Hollywood celebrity they could find.
Chuck Schumer tried to buy this Senate seat like it was a piece of Manhattan real estate.
But he learned what we've always known, that Texas isn't for sale.
And Texans can't be bought.
Amen.
Over the last two years, I've traveled every corner of this state, from the panhandle to the valley, from deepest East Texas to far in West Texas.
We have traveled 9,094 miles, 53 rallies, all over the state of Texas.
I've worn out my boots, at times my voice, and certainly the patience of my incredible political team, who did an amazing job on this campaign.
and I think is the very best team in all of politics.
And what I found traveling the state of Texas was worth every single mile.
Because everywhere I went, I found something that gives me profound hope.
Common sense isn't dead.
It is alive and well in Texas.
Everywhere I went, I met Texans who share a simple dream to keep their families safe, to keep their freedom secure, and to keep their Texas values strong.
Tonight, we are witnessing incredible results, especially with Hispanics across the state of Texas.
Senator Cruz mentioned Celebrities Variety on its website has a piece taking a look at some of the reaction from actors in Hollywood in light of yesterday, citing former Married with Children star Christina Applegate saying that with Trump's win threatened reproductive rights, which were already impacted after Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022.
Quote, why?
Give me reasons why, she wrote on X. My child is sobbing because her rights as a woman may be taken away.
Why?
And if you disagree, please unfollow me.
Jamie Lee Curtis said on Instagram that the former president's win, the president-elect's win, quote, means a short return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian time.
Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied.
Many minority groups and young people will be afraid.
Gay and trans people will be more afraid.
We know that many women will find it difficult to get the reproductive health care that they deserve.
For all those people, there will be those who will help you, me included.
And it also includes a comment from the rapper Cardi B saying on Instagram, I hate you all bad.
This is Wilhelm from Missouri, who did not vote.
Wilhelm, hello.
Hello.
This is Will Elm Apostle.
I did not go out and vote because I don't mind who gets in the White House.
I don't mind who gets in there.
That's all I wanted to say, and that's all I have to say.
Why don't you mind it?
Why don't I mind?
Because I wish I did.
And I wish I had did God.
And I wish I had did mine when that person had won.
And that's all I have to say for now.
California, we'll hear from Scott, a supporter of the vice president.
Hello.
DJ Scott.
Yes, you're on, please.
Go ahead.
Yeah, I just wanted to say that I think the voters of this country have failed this country miserably.
And not so much the Trump voters that showed up, which are less than there were in 2020.
It's the Harris voters that didn't decide to come out and support her.
She's sitting at 66 million right now, roughly, and the 81 million that came out for Biden in 2020.
Those people are all sitting home, and it's their responsibility what happens to this country in the next four years.
Shame on you.
Shame on you for not turning out and turning your back on democracy.
And Sherrod Brown said it great.
He said, there will never be a wrong time to fight for expanded, for the right for women's right to choose for themselves, to give seniors a life of dignity and the right to fight for organized labor.
You just gave all of that up by allowing fewer votes in this election to win from the same voters that voted in 2020, actually 4 million fewer so far that voted in 2020.
You turned your back on democracy, and what you get in the next four years is on you.
That's all I got to say.
Jack in Iowa in Davenport, a supporter of the president-elect.
Good morning.
Good morning.
Two points.
When I was learning about screenwriting, I heard Woody Allen saying: 85% of success is showing up.
I think everybody who voted should be applauded.
And it doesn't matter who whether you voted for somebody that won or somebody that lost.
We're making democracy work by voting, showing up.
Number two is something a little more serious.
There were a million people who supposedly died of COVID.
I suggest that there be an investigation like the Scranton Commission, which studied the Kenned State shootings, or the Warren Commission that studied the JFK assassination, or the Challenger Congressional Commission.
I think we need to study what happened with COVID.
Maybe that'd be a good job for Robert Kennedy Jr.
Okay, Jack there in Iowa, by the way, reporting out of the Des Moines Register out of Iowa today saying that renowned pollster Ann Selzer said Tuesday she would be reviewing her data to determine why a Des Moines Register MediaCom Iowa poll released just days before the election produced results so far out of line with former President Donald Trump's resounding victory.
He handily won Iowa for a third time, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris by 14 percentage points with more than 90 percent of the vote counted, a sharp contrast to Saturday's Iowa poll that had Harris leading by three points.
The story going on is a quote tonight.
I'm of course thinking about how we got where we are.
She said the president of the company, she goes on to say, the poll findings we produced for the Des Moines Register and MediaCom did not match what the Iowa electorate ultimately decided in the voting booth today.
I'll be reviewing data from multiple sources with hopes of learning why that happened, and I welcome what that process might teach me.
New Orleans is next.
Well, supporter of Vice President Harris, good morning.
Valerie in New Orleans.
I'm sorry, I should have said that.
Valerie, go ahead.
Good morning.
I feel that it's a privilege to be an American today.
I had hopes of having a qualified person in Vice President Harris to represent us for our next president.
That did not happen.
I do believe that there is a level of deceit and ignorance that exists among us Americans.
I believe that we filter what we think is true and then we push for what we want to believe is true and knowing that you can't just make up what you believe the facts are because it's your person that won or lost.
But I have learned through this election that we must be engaged as Americans on every level.
Just because we have Republicans in office does not mean that the citizens in our communities and across our country need to go sit somewhere while the other side push their own agenda.
I think we're all equal, we're all important, and we all need to do our part on every level.
There's an accountability as a citizen.
There's an accountability and responsibility for our leaders to be to have character, to be worthy of serving.
And I think when we do that to that degree and we hold one another accountable, we'll see the right kind of change.
All right.
Let's hear from a supporter of the president-elect.
This is David in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Yes, I'd like to thank you all very much for having me on today.
I'll just say this much.
A lot of people think when Trump was out there putting that wall up that he was dividing our country from other countries, he was not.
It's just like when a banker's in there, they can't get your bank and just open it up.
Anybody come and get all the money they want.
That is for a person to come into America, they have to go through channels and become a reputation of America.
And that's what America is about, being free and right to vote and everything.
And that's what we're able to do, putting Trump back into office like he should have been in the first place.
Okay, that's David in Oklahoma.
Some of you sending us through social media and text.
This is from Derek Chapman off of X saying, along with being a fatally flawed candidate, Harris made three moves that sunk her campaign.
One, she didn't choose Josh Shapiro, the Pennsylvania governor, for her running mate.
Two, she rode the Palestinian-Israel fence.
Three, heavy doses of identity politics.
This viewer saying it is indeed a good day.
This is John from Corham, Texas, saying, thanks for offering objective coverage of a pivotal election.
Let us hope and pray that Trump's, quote, concept of a plan suffices in these troubling times, especially climate change.
Let's go to Kaz.
Kaz in New York, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Good morning.
Appreciate that you're taking my call.
I would like to congratulate Mr. President Donald Trump, true New Yorker, and as well as a true patriot, I believe, to win this election and hopefully uplift us the whole country.
I would like to mention that I'm as well a convicted senator as she is.
It's due to the politics in New York State, especially the housing court in New York State.
And Zipboard 11694 is one of the greatest places to actually prove that, which where I live.
I would like to say thank you, Mr. President, and hopefully you did a good job for this.
Hyena supporters, Ms. Harris, I hope that would turn into hyena Christ.
Okay, let's hear from a supporter of the vice president.
This is Cody in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Hey, Pedro Morning.
I have a claim I'd like to make.
My claim is that Americans are the most uninformed voters.
I've traveled a lot.
I'm in my mid-30s.
I've been to over 50 countries, and I've had more substantive conversations with people that aren't even Americans.
And they actually know intricate details about policies that Harris or Trump are running for.
But when I talk to Americans that are Republicans, they actually don't know any policies.
Every conversation I've had with someone that likes Trump, they literally cannot name a single policy that they like of his.
It's bizarre.
And look, our economy right now is really strong, right?
Inflation is down 2.4%.
You can thank Biden for that.
And Trump will ride this economy for the next two years.
But I guarantee you, Trump will take credit for it on day one without even doing anything.
And look, jobs are up.
Wages are up.
Unemployment is down.
We literally have Biden and his administration zinc for this.
And one last thing to close with.
Just think, Republicans out there, just think if we're actually right of all the Democratic rhetoric about Trump being a fascist, Trump will ruin this company, this economy by his tariffs, and mass deportation of immigrants.
Will you remember this moment four years from now and help take our country back?
Okay, that's Cody there in Tennessee, finishing off this fourth hour of the program today.
One more hour to go as we take your calls talking about and getting your input on the election that took place yesterday.
Donald Trade Trump becoming slated to become the 47th president of the United States, winning that electoral college vote yesterday.
And we're taking your calls on it.
Here's how you can reach us in this last hour, 202748-8920.
If you support Vice President Harris, 202748-8921.
If you support the president-elect, 202-748-8922.
If you supported other candidates and voted for other candidates, and if you will send us a text, you want to do that, 202748-8903.
On X, it's at C-SPAN on Facebook, Facebook.com/slash C-SPAN.
We are told, you remember that John McCartle told us that in about a half hour from now, we're expecting to hear from the Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell, about his thoughts on the election.
So look for that in about a half hour from now.
We'll take your calls.
Up until then, we are told to go back to John McCartle.
Glad to have you back, Pedro.
You talk about Mitch McConnell speaking in a half an hour on the results of the Senate races.
The House races, we still don't know what will happen.
There's 56 races to be called.
Reminder that all 435 members of the House were up for re-election.
Democrats, to take the House from Republicans, would have needed a net of four seats.
Right now, it's the other direction.
Republicans have netted three seats so far.
And again, with 56 races yet to be called in the House, it may take a while until we know for sure, though, as the Cook Political reported earlier today in one of their tweets, the expectations is that Republicans will continue to hold the House in the 119th Congress, giving them the House, the Senate, and the White House.
The then likely Speaker, if Republicans hold the House, would continue to be Mike Johnson.
And Mike Johnson put this statement out just after 10 a.m. Eastern, his thoughts on what happened last night.
This historic election has proven that a majority of Americans are eager for secure borders, lower costs, peace through strength, and a return to common sense.
As more results come in, it is clear that as we have predicted all along, Republicans are poised to have unified government in the White House, Senate, and House.
House Republicans have been successful in securing critical flips in swing states, including Pennsylvania and Michigan, while our battle-tested incumbents have secured re-election from coast to coast.
The latest data and trends indicate that when all the votes are tabulated, Republicans will have held our majority, even though we faced a map with 18 Biden-won seats.
We will continue to monitor the results and ensure every legal ballot is counted throughout this process.
I look forward to working with President Trump and a Republican Senate to deliver as Speaker of the House on the mandate entrusted to us by the American people.
That's the full statement from Mike Johnson just after 10 a.m. this morning.
Let's hear from James.
James in Ohio, starting off our fifth hour.
This is on our line for those who support the president-elect.
James, hello.
Hi there.
Thanks for taking the call.
Great day.
Happy for President Trump.
I voted for him.
I do have some concerns, which I haven't heard mentioned in any of the calls yet.
And that is during this transition period, approaching Trump taking office and when he takes office, if there should be mass demonstrations, again, laying in the streets and burning down cities.
I live close to Cleveland.
Even there, people were downtown laying in the streets and a lot of businesses that had nothing to do with it were destroyed, not to mention what happened in Minneapolis.
How will, if Biden's still in office, how will he approach it?
And how will Trump approach it?
Those are questions, but they're also really big determinations about where we are going because some of this backlash is January 6th and these things, as terrible as they were, they shouldn't have happened, but there is this kind of backlash because of this kind of behavior.
Okay.
That's James in Ohio.
Let's hear from Amara in North Carolina, who supported and voted for other candidates in this cycle.
Amara, go ahead.
Hi.
I voted for Jack Man Sherman because personally I feel that we have a triple party system, as somebody else did earlier, in which our parties are owned by corporations.
Trump and Kavala, to me, they serve the same master.
They take money from the same corporations.
I would like to believe that either of them are different, that either of them care about the American people, but I don't believe that they do.
I believe that they care about serving themselves.
They care about the money in their pockets that they get from wealthy corporations and the one percenters that send them money.
And this is what initially Kavala wanted to not want to ban fracking and raid a campaign.
That is because money from those corporations.
Trump is the same way.
He also receives money from those corporations.
Additionally, if they really are so different from each other and truly equest each other and each other's values, then why do they take money from the same people?
It is something that a lot of people don't question.
And I think saying that Trump is anti-establishment was he was raised on a silver spoon.
He was raised in a wealthy family.
Never a day in his life has he had to go without shelter or has he wondered when he's getting his next meal.
He is the definition of a neffo baby in that sense.
That he was given things that helped him wrap himself up in life.
And I believe that everyone deserves equal opportunity.
And I also believe that us spending money on bombing countries isn't morphic.
It's harmful to them.
It's not helping anything.
And also.
Okay.
That's there from Elton.
Elton in North Carolina.
You're next up.
Hello.
Yes.
You're right.
Go ahead.
Voting for the Republican Party.
I hope that Trump will clean out all the Democrats and Republicans that jumps from one side to the other.
Stand with the true Democrats and the true Republicans and make America great again.
A supporter of Vice President Harris, this is Joe in Florida.
Good morning.
You're next.
Hey, good morning, America.
I just want to give a shout out to everybody.
Finally, we stop the madness, man.
This has went on far too long.
Yeah.
Hey, let's hear from Sophia, Sophia in California, a supporter of the president-elect.
Go ahead.
Sophia from California.
Hello.
Yes.
Yes, I'm here.
You're on.
Thank you so much for taking my call.
First of all, I'd like to state my opinion as to why I think Kamala Harris did not win.
I think the reason she did not win is because she is not a true and honest Democrat.
If she were to be a true, honest Democrat, when President Biden called her and told her that he wants her to run, a true honest Democrat would say, thank you so much.
This is such an honor.
However, I have not received even one vote.
I'm sure there are many other people running, people on the Democratic, in the Democratic Party who'd want to run.
And we should have a primary and then let the people decide.
So that's where she went wrong.
And then the other issue was that her emphasis on abortion.
And at the same time, calling Trump Hitler.
So, you know, I grew up four, I'm an immigrant, and I grew up four hours' drive from Auschwitz.
And Hitler built, you know, ovens and guest chambers and so on.
And watching Trump, you know, for his four years, he never built anything where he has any kind of an intention to guess and kill anybody.
But however, when I look at the statistics as to how many innocent people got killed from 1973 up until today, it's over 60 some million innocent people who don't have a voice and cannot defend themselves.
Okay, Sophia there.
Let's hear from another supporter of the president-elect.
This is Rome in New York, in Oakdale, New York.
Hello.
Yeah, good morning.
I'm just turning my sound off here.
Just give me 10 seconds here.
Got the wrong button.
There we go.
Okay, I'm just going to remind the American voter that they and Donald Trump just drove a stake through the heart of the ravenous walls of the Democratic Party that's turned its back on America, namely giving aid and comfort to all our country's enemies, including Afghanistan, the surrender of all our military hardware, et cetera, et cetera, the strategic petroleum reserve destroying our energy independence.
I want to summarize that statement by listening, by reading your Bible.
Read Matthew 7, chapter 15 through 17.
Beware of false prophets, for they will clothe themselves in sheep's clothing lingering underneath our ravenous walls.
Massachusetts is next for the president-elect.
This is Paul.
Hi.
I am a Democrat, and I actually voted for Donald Trump.
I've never voted Republican in my entire life, and this is the first time I actually did that.
I'm just not thrilled with the Democratic Party.
I'm not thrilled with Kamala Harris.
If they put up someone more moderate, like Josh Shapiro, wouldn't have been a different story.
But the fact is, most Americans do not want these prices.
They don't want illegal immigrants pouring over the border.
They don't want biological men and women's sports.
That's just the facts.
So, like I said, I've been a Democrat my entire life, but this election, I had enough.
And I think the American people had enough as well, because if you look at the popular vote, Donald Trump, a Republican, is winning the popular vote right now.
So I just want that to set in.
I like C-SPAN.
It's honest.
It's way more honest than any mainstream media outlet out there.
C-SPAN is the only way to go.
So I encourage everyone watching to tell their friends to go on C-SPAN and watch.
Thank you, Pedro.
Paul in Massachusetts.
We will continue on with calls about yesterday's election.
But first, we go back to John McCartnell.
Pedro, on the popular vote right now, Donald Trump is leading $71,500,000 and change to Kamala Harris's $66,700,000.
That's where that stands.
Here's where we stand on the Washington Journal this morning.
In about 19 minutes, we're going to take viewers to Mitch McConnell's press conference to talk about the future of the United States Senate.
Republicans will be taking over the Senate in the 119th Congress.
Mitch McConnell is not going to be the leader of Senate Republicans.
He's stepping down from that role.
It'll be a new leader that's being selected in about a week and a half by the Republican conference.
We'll see what happens there.
But the Senate majority could continue to grow.
There are five battleground races still outstanding.
Republicans leading in two of them, Democrats leading in three of them.
Let me just walk you through where those stand right now as we wait to see what the final number is for Republicans and Democrats in the United States Senate.
With 97% of the votes in Pennsylvania, the Keystone state, Dave McCormick is leading 49.1% to Senator Bob Casey's 48.4%.
There's a few votes left to be counted there and still too close to call.
A reminder, the Associated Press is who we use to make these calls when they make the call.
That's the call that we report to you.
In Michigan, in the Wolverine state, Alyssa Slotkin, the Democrat in that open seat race, is leading just barely 48.5% to Republican Mike Rogers, 48.4%.
98% of the vote has been counted in Michigan.
We'll take you to Wisconsin in the Badger state.
Senator Tammy Baldwin is trying to hold on to her seat.
She leads 49.4% to Eric Hovedie's 48.5% with 99% of the vote counted.
And then in Arizona, it is another open seat race in Arizona.
The Congressman Ruben Gallego hoping to become Senator Ruben Gallego.
The Democrat, 50.4%.
Kerry Lake, the Republican, former Republican gubernatorial candidate last cycle with 47.7%.
Just 60% of the vote counted in Arizona.
And finally, to Nevada, the Silver State, where Senator Jackie Rosen is trying to hold on to her seat, and it's neck and neck against Republican Sam Brown, the Republican.
Sam Brown leading 47.3% to Jackie Rovinson's 47.2%.
And there's 16% of the vote yet to be counted there.
That's where the numbers are, according to the Associated Press.
Let me tell you some of what the candidates are saying on their social media pages, specifically Tammy Baldwin tweeting this out just after 5.30 this morning, saying the voters have spoken and our campaign has won, declaring victory in that race.
And then one other social media tweet getting attention, Max Cohen pointing of Punch Bowl News, pointing us to Alyssa Slotkin's statement on the Michigan Senate race.
Alyssa Slotkin, of course, the Democrat there, saying, her communications director saying that with more results being counted in Wayne County, Alyssa has taken the lead, a lead of almost 20,000 votes, and our margin will continue to grow as the remaining ballots are processed.
When all the votes are counted, we're confident that Alyssa Slotkin will have been elected as Michigan's next U.S. Senator.
That again, the communications director for the Slotkin campaign.
We'll continue to see what happens.
We don't say a winner until the Associated Press does, and we'll continue to watch those numbers for you.
And you'll be watching Senator Mitch McConnell in a few minutes here if you stick around here on C-SPAN.
Thank you, sir.
Politico reporting that Jason Miller, Donald Trump's senior advisor, said earlier today on the Today show said the president-elect's first order of business after he takes office will be executive actions to quote get back to drilling and reinstate Trump-era border policies, quote, all the secure border policies that we had in place with President Trump.
He can simply flip the switch and put those back in place just like they were before.
They didn't need an act of Congress, he said in an interview with The Today Show.
Let's go to Gary, a supporter of the president-elect from California.
Go ahead.
Hi, this is Gary.
You're on.
Go ahead.
Oh, okay.
Hey, first of all, I want to thank you.
You love C-SPAN, man.
It's 45 years now.
Listen, I'm New York Jewish-born kind of, you know, Democrat my whole life, my whole family.
Most of us this year voted referendum, just yes, no.
It was done.
We were tired.
I think the biggest mistake is the DNC needs to walk away from this and grasp reality.
I've been independent since 92 for a purpose and a reason, and that's to be honest with the politicians.
And every Democrat that I hear coming on here seems like they're making it still sound like Donald Trump is this horrible Nazi.
He's not a Nazi.
Everyone knows that.
And that's why the Dems lost.
That's why Harris lost.
She could not stop creating a false personified image of someone we all watched for four years who wasn't anti-Jewish, wasn't anti-black.
I remember living in New York when he supported Jesse Jackson.
I remember when he went to Clinton's weddings.
So this was all rhetoric and politics.
But the DNC needs to change because this was a vote by the people like myself to say enough.
Stop playing politics, identity politics.
Stop going far left.
We don't want your socialism to that level.
And I hope that the DNC walks away and says, look, we're not going to do this again.
They really need a complete re-haul if the Democrats are ever going to see any change.
Otherwise, we're going to.
Okay, let's go to Vivian.
Vivian in Tennessee, a supporter of the vice president.
Good morning.
Now, they talk about election that's rigged.
This election is rigged.
I know here in Tennessee, every time we have an election, machines go out in the black area.
They're not mentioning that.
And it's Republicans who is hiring them illegal people to work in their factories.
Check it out.
I wish Harris had that guy out there and said all that.
And then Trump let people die with that COVID.
Then tell the truth.
Trump is a cause of people coming over here at the board that's going to tell them people don't vote along because they're Democrats until he gets in there.
He the one killed that deal.
And he's a known rapist.
How in the world can a man vote for him and a woman, a known rapist?
And then he set up to let people die from COVID.
My brother died from COVID because of him.
I don't like it, and I hate him.
Okay, that's Vivian there in Tennessee.
Reuters already taking a look at the internal goings of back and forth about yesterday's events.
This is the headline after Harris's loss.
Angry Democrats blame her boss, President Biden, saying that anger and soul searching took hold of the Democratic Party early on Wednesday after the vice president suffered that election loss.
She was the self-styled underdog against her Republican rival, having joined the race barely three months ago.
But the nature of her loss has some Democrats asking questions about the future of the party.
The sharpest criticisms contained accusations that the party had lied to its supporters about President Joe Biden's mental fitness after that until a disastrous TV debate with former President Trump in June raised alarm bells.
One Democratic donor asked, Why did Joe Biden hold on for so long as he did?
He should have not concealed his health and dropped out a lot sooner.
There's more stories.
There's more to this story, more similar stories coming out in the days ahead after the election from yesterday.
Let's hear from Barbara, Barbara in Arizona, a supporter of the president-elect.
Good morning.
Morning, Youron.
Hi.
I voted for President-elect Trump.
I liked his policies when he was president before.
He got a roar deal because COVID came out and that totally took over the country.
But Harris is a weak candidate.
The Democrats are a weak party.
They are very radical, and people don't want that anymore.
I go to the supermarket and I spend over $100 and come back with four bags of groceries.
The gas is expensive in Arizona.
It's horrible.
And I think this whole country needs an overhaul.
And I think President Trump will do that for us this time around.
A supporter of Vice President Harris.
This is Gary in Tennessee.
Go ahead.
Hello, Pedro.
Thank you for C-SPAN.
First, I'd like to say as a Democrat, congratulations to the MAGA Party for winning a big red wave.
And I just got a couple of quotes, and I'll leave you be.
The first quote is from Walt Kelly.
He wrote the Pogo Strip back in the day, and he said that we have met the enemy, and he is us.
And the second quote is from Lowell George, fine musician from Little Feet.
He said that I've been down, but not like this before.
Can't be around.
This kind of show, no more.
So peace out, everyone.
Here's Rick from West Virginia, a supporter of the president-elect.
Yes, I'd just like to say that we need Trump.
All the West Virginia coal miners and coal miners everywhere.
He sports fossil fuels, and that's what we need.
Thank you.
From Grant, Grant's in Illinois, a supporter of the vice president.
Yeah, I'm an independent, and I'm an election judge also.
But I voted for Harrison Walls for numerous reasons, you know, because, of course, the fact that Trump's a felon.
I'm concerned about women's rights and the right to choose.
Project 2025, book banning by the Republicans, this whole Christian nationalism movement that's frightening to me.
And one thing I'd like to say is I've noticed in the last four years that Biden's been president is that there's been a lot of infrastructure work done in northwestern Illinois, northeastern Iowa, which wasn't the case when Trump was president.
Then I'm also wondering if Trump does get his wishes and does this mass deportation that he wants to do, who's going to pick the crops?
I mean, there's been some Mexican laborers living across the street from me that have worked the last two months picking melons and pumpkins.
And I guarantee you, there's not too many white people in this area that are going to do that kind of work.
So those are the many reasons, like I say, that I was a Harris and Waltz backer.
Okay, that's Grant there.
Let's hear once again from the former president-elect now, but this is from the early morning hours, former President Trump talking to his supporters.
They said that many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason.
I saw that in the first term.
When we became more and more successful, people started coming together.
God bless you, and God bless America.
Thank you very much.
Thank you.
A lot of speeches from yesterday, not only from the president-elect, but others as well.
And you can see them all on our website at c-span.org.
You can also go to our app at C-SPANNOW for more video from the election.
We are set in just a few minutes from now, scheduled at least, to hear from the Senate minority leader about yesterday.
John McCartle telling us that later on this evening, around 6 o'clock, Vice President Harris expected to address her supporters at Howard University in a speech later on.
Stay close to C-SPAN for all of that, but we'll go back to John McCartle.
Pedro, just before that clip you played, the caller Grant was talking about one of the things that he was concerned about is women's rights and a right to choose.
For viewers who were following along on c-span.org last night and the ballot reporting tools or the election reporting tools that we have there, ballot measures were certainly one of the things that you could dig into.
And there were several last night on the issue of abortion and women's right to choose.
Here's the headline from those ballot measures from NBC: abortion rights ballot measures pass in seven states and fail in three others.
The NBC News wrap-up noting that in Arizona and Missouri, they approved ballot measures that will effectively protect abortion rights until fetal viability and undo existing abortion laws on the books.
Voters in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota rejected proposed amendments that would have done the same.
Voters in Maryland, Montana, Nevada, and New York, where abortion is already legal through fetal viability, and in Colorado, where there's no laws restricting abortion and no gestational limits, passed measures that will formally enshrine those existing rights.
In Nebraska, two dueling abortion-related measures were on the general election ballot.
The one voters approved will protect abortion rights in the first trimester while barring the procedure in the second and third trimesters, except in medical emergencies or when pregnancies are the result of sexual assaults or incest.
That from NBC, but you can look through all of that ballot data on our website at cspan.org and click through each state's and all those ballot measures.
Thank you very much.
The Associated Press saying now that the president-elect has received enough votes at the Electoral College, they say that the transition has begun, saying the president-elect now has a 75-day transition period to build out his team before Inauguration Day arrives on the 20th of January.
One top item on the to-do list, filling around 4,000 government positions with political appointees, people who are specifically tapped for their jobs by the president's team.
That includes everyone from the Secretary of State and other heads of cabinet departments to those selected to serve part-time on boards and commissions.
Around 1,200 of those presidential appointments require Senate confirmation, which should be easier now with the Senate now shifting to Republican control.
Let's go to Marguerite.
Margarita, a supporter of Vice President Harris in Maine.
Hello.
Oh, Margaret.
Margaret, I'm sorry, go ahead.
Oh, okay.
I got four things, please.
We just elected P.T. Barnum for president.
They have taken away women's birthright.
What a burning question for me for months has been, and I never heard anybody address it: who's going to care for and take care of the unwanted children?
And I bet you anything they're going to work on women's right work on taking away women's right to vote.
Thank you.
From Diane.
Diane is in Maine.
Hold on, Diane.
We'll pause for just a second.
We're seeing that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is approaching the podium for statements of the press.
Certainly a happy day for the GOP.
And let me start by congratulating President Trump for what he's accomplished.
It's not been done, as all of you know, since Grover, Cleveland, which was a while back.
I also want to commend the Trump campaign for running a sharper operation this time.
And I think Chris LaSabita and Susie Wiles deserve a lot of credit.
They ran a spectacular race.
With regard to the Senate, you guys know how long I've been around.
I had really hoped I'd be able to hand over to my successor, the majority.
I've been the majority leader, I've been the minority leader.
Majority is a lot better.
And I think based on the fact that we haven't got all the results in, we certainly already know we're going to be in the majority.
We're hopeful that that might actually grow some.
And I want to give particular credit to Steve Daines.
I had that job at the NRSC a few years back.
I've never seen a better performance.
He focused on getting quality candidates, making sure they actually got the nomination.
And as I said to some criticism, candidate quality is absolutely essential.
I also am proud of the job that Senate Leadership Fund and its related groups did.
Overall, they were able to raise $425 million, and they made decisions to invest in, I think, all the right places.
I'll just run it down for you.
They spent $29 million in Maryland, $42 million in Michigan, $60 million in Montana, $3.3 million in Nebraska, $12.8 million in Nevada, $133 million in Ohio,
$82.7 million in Pennsylvania, 30 million in Wisconsin, and 3 million in West Virginia.
So clearly what they were doing over there is focusing on the places where we had the best chance to win.
And I think the results pretty much prove they made a lot of wise decisions.
So with that, I'll be happy to see what you want to talk about.
Good morning, Mr. Leeds.
Thank you.
Senate Republicans will have 54, 55, maybe even 56 seats before this is done.
You have been an advocate of maintaining the filibuster, the former president, now the president elect.
You know, I'm glad that.
And what will you do outside of the leadership now to continue to advocate on that if there are forces here who try to get rid of it?
I'm really glad you raised that.
I should have covered that before.
I think one of the most gratifying results of the Senate becoming Republican, the filibuster will stand.
There won't be any new states admitted that give a partisan advantage to the other side.
And we'll quit beating up the Supreme Court every time we don't like a decision they make.
So I think this shifting to a Republican Senate majority helps control the guardrails to keep people who want to change the rules in order to achieve something they think is worthwhile is not successful.
And so I think the filibuster is very secure.
Leader McConnell, practically speaking, what does having a 52 or 53 seat majority mean for getting Trump's agenda through the Senate compared to a 50 or 51 seat?
And does this mean maybe you expand the agenda beyond the Trump tax cuts to explore other things and what might those things be?
Well, we hear optimistic reports of what may have happened in the House.
And obviously, if you were going to legitimately work around the filibuster, it would be through reconciliation.
And so I think we'd be obviously more successful if we flipped the House.
And Speaker, I think, put out a statement saying he's optimistic.
I hope that's the case.
In March, you blamed former President Trump, President-elect Trump, and his inner circle on the delay to Ukraine aid.
Are you confident that he is the best person to deter our adversaries?
Yeah, look, I'm here this morning to talk about the election, and I think I'm going to largely confine it to that.
Mr. Ponnell?
Yeah.
Can you talk a little bit about what you expect your role to be next year when you're not in leadership?
I know you've talked about foreign policy.
You've got JD Vance as the vice president.
He's obviously got diverging views from you on foreign policy.
What is your role going to be over the next two years?
Okay.
I'm not going to speculate about what anybody else may be doing.
I thought your question was what I was going to be doing.
I'm going to concentrate on defense and foreign policy.
I think this is the most dangerous time since right before World War II.
Our adversaries, North Koreans, Chinese, Russians, Iran, and Iran's proxies are all talking to each other.
They have one thing in common.
They hate us and they want to diminish our role in the world.
It may seem old-fashioned to some, but I'm still a Reagan Republican who thinks that America's role in the world is absolutely indispensable.
Even if you're concerned about cost, it would be interesting to know that at the height of World War II, 37% of our gross domestic product was being spent on the war.
37%.
And we lost over 400,000 Americans.
The Reagan buildup, without a shot being fired, was about 6% of GDP.
We're currently spending 2.7%.
We need to ramp up defense spending in order to prevent a direct conflict with our adversaries.
It's a lot cheaper to prevent war than it is to have one.
And so that's the focus I'm going to have for the next couple of years.
Senator.
Leader McDonnell, will you do you plan to chair the appropriations subcommittee?
I haven't made a decision.
I'm hoping as former leader, you guys will care what I think anyway, and I don't think it'll have anything to do with committee assignments.
Are you anticipating any moves from the Democrats in the lame duck weeks coming up here?
Well, we are going to have to finish, figure out how to finish up the year, and that always involves a conversation between Senator Schumer and myself as to how we wrap it up, but those conversations haven't started yet.
Just a week before this election, your biography was released, your biography was released, and it included a lot of sharp criticisms of President Trump.
Do you stand by those criticisms?
I'm not here to do a book review this morning.
Next week, your colleagues will choose the next majority leader.
What should they take away from last night when they vote for the next leader?
What can I take from last night?
What should your colleagues take from last night when they choose the next leader?
Candidate quality is essential.
Absolutely essential.
And I think we had the best candidates everywhere yesterday.
You've been the majority leader in this situation with narrow majorities in the House and Senate.
How challenging do you think it's going to be to keep the Republican Party together if you end up with full control?
Well, you're a bit of a student of history, Burgess.
Since senators became popularly elected in 1914, my party's never had more than 55.
Democrats had massive majorities during the 30s, during LBJ, during Barack Obama.
So obviously, the higher we get, the better, but this is not 60 votes, which is what they had at the beginning of President Obama.
So I think we did pretty well with narrow majorities during the previous administration.
Three new Supreme Court justices, 54 new circuit judges, comprehensive 30-year overdue tax reform.
Yeah, I mean, it's harder, but I think we were successful before with a narrow majority, and I think we will be again.
Senator, looking at the results from last night, what do you take away from the mood of the country, where it is now, where it is headed, and how it lands according to your expectations?
Well, if you're looking for a simple answer, I think it was a referendum on the current administration in part.
People were just not happy with this administration and the Democratic nominee obviously was a part of it.
In your role as former leader moving forward, what do you think your level of engagement is going to be directly with the new Trump administration?
Again, given your criticisms of the former president, I'm going to do everything I can to help the new administration be successful.
Torrance Banks.
Would you be in support of Elon Musk and RFK Jr. having positions in the cabinet for the next presidential?
I'm sorry, say that again.
Would you be in support of RFK Jr. and Elon Musk having positions in the cabinet, presidential cabinet, considering that Elon Musk has been reported to be in contact with Valencia Putin and RFK Jr. has been accused of sexual assault?
One of the things about advancing age: if you all live as long as I do, you're going to have hearing aids on and have a hard time hearing a question like that.
I want you to come up here.
Torrance, thanks.
Notice.
Would you be in support of Elon Musk and RFK Jr. having cabinet positions, considering that Elon Musk has been reported to be in contact?
Yeah, I'm not going to get into that subject.
Anything else related to what happened yesterday?
Yeah.
I'm wondering, President Trump and Senate Republicans sometimes butted heads in the first administration.
Do you think the relationship will be smoother this time?
What advice would you have to President Trump to dealing with the new majority in Congress in general?
You know, I had a lot of dealings with him during the previous administration.
I think we did a lot for the American people.
Yeah.
Do you expect any clashes with President Trump over nominees in case he goes more towards the economic populist route?
I think it's way too early to tell who the nominees are going to be, and I think the Senate will treat them fairly.
Carl?
A lame duck question.
Democrats have a lot of judges in the channel here that they could try and push through in these last few weeks.
Do you think, what do you think Republicans should do if that would happen?
One advantage of being the majority leader is you get to decide what to bring up.
And I think if that's what the majority leader wants to do, that's what we'll do, and each one will be voted on.
Now that Republicans have control of the Senate and the presidency, how do you expect some lame duck priorities like appropriations to be handled?
Is that going to be punted into the new year?
I don't expect what?
Appropriations and other big lame duck priorities to be handled.
Well, I mean, I think getting our work done, which no matter who's been in the majority, we've not been able to do that very well for quite a while.
Deciding how to spend the discretionary money that we have, which is not a very big part of what we spend every year anymore, is really important.
And I would hope we would put a greater priority than the current Senate has on doing the basic work of government, which is getting it, deciding how much to spend and getting it done as close to regular order as possible.
I was hoping you could compare the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act extension that Republicans are pursuing now to the Bush tax cut extension that we saw.
Are these comparable periods in policy now?
And what does the Republican position mean for that?
Well, I can speak for most Senate Republicans.
We're going to want, we thought it was a huge success.
It produced more revenue than less.
And I'm sure virtually all of us would like to see most of that extended.
Okay, I think I think we're through.
Good luck to you all.
I enjoyed talking to you, and it was a hell of a good day.
Thanks a lot.
Thank you.
Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th President of the United States after defeating Democratic presidential nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris.
He addressed his supporters at his campaign headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida, shortly before the race had been called.
This is about half an hour.
There might be a little margin there for Republican senators testament to that.
Let's see what Wisconsin is, guys.
we put up Havdi in Wisconsin.
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome president-elect Donald J. Trump, first lady Melania Trump, and the Trump family.
accompanied by Vice President-elect JD Vance, second lady Usha Vance, along with friends and campaign staff.
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that life to me.
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land.
God bless the USA to the hills of Tennessee across the plains of Texas, from sea to sand and sea.
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to Melanie.
Well, there's pride in every unrippin' heart, and it's time we stand and say...
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land.
God bless the USA.
I won't be an American where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died who gave that life to me.
And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land.
Thank you very much.
Wow, thank you very much.
And to every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family, and your future.
Every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body.
I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve.
This will truly be the golden age of America.
That's what we have to have.
This is a magnificent victory for the American people that will allow us to make America great again.
And in addition to having won the battleground states of North Carolina, I love these places.
Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
We are now winning in Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, and Alaska, which would result in us carrying at least 315 electoral votes.
But it's much easier doing what the networks did, or whoever called it, because there was no other path.
There was no other path to victory.
We also have won the popular vote.
That was great, I was proud of you, thank you.
Thank you very much, Jackie.
Winning the popular vote was very nice.
Very nice, I will tell you.
It's a great feeling of love.
We have a great feeling of love in this very large room with unbelievable people standing by my side.
These people have been incredible.
They've made the journey with me, and we're going to make you very happy.
We're going to make you very proud of your vote.
I hope that you're going to be looking back someday and say that was one of the truly important moments of my life when I voted for this group of people beyond the president, this group of great people.
America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate.
We have taken back control of the Senate.
Wow, that's good.
And the Senate races in Montana, Nevada, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were all won by the MAGA movement.
They helped so much.
And in those cases, every one of them, we worked with the senators.
They were tough races.
And I mean, the number of victories in the Senate was absolutely incredible.
And we did tele rallies.
We did tele rallies with each one of them.
And sometimes we did two or three.
And it was amazing to look at all of those victories.
Nobody expected that.
Nobody.
So I just wanted to thank you very much for that.
And you have some great senators and some great new senators.
And it also looks like we'll be keeping control of the House of Representatives.
And I want to thank Mike Johnson.
I think he's doing a terrific job, terrific job.
I want to also thank my beautiful wife, Melania, First Lady, who has the number one best-selling book in the country.
Can you believe that?
No, she's done a great job, works very hard, works very hard to help people.
So I just want to thank her.
But I want to thank my whole family, my amazing children, and they are amazing children.
Now, we all think our children are amazing.
Everybody here thinks their children are amazing, but that's a good thing when you think they are.
But Don, Eric, Ivanka, Tiffany, Baron, Laura, Jared, Kimberly, Michael, thank you all.
What a help.
My father-in-law, Victor, is tremendous.
And we miss very much Melania's mother, Amalya.
We miss Amalia, don't we, huh?
She would be very happy right now standing on this stage.
She'd be so proud.
She was a great woman, that one.
Beautiful inside and out.
She was a great woman.
I want to be the first to congratulate our great, now I can say, Vice-President-Elect of the United States, J.B. Bill, and his absolutely remarkable and beautiful wife, Ushabez.
And he is a feisty guy, isn't he?
You know, I've said, go into the enemy camp.
And you know, the enemy camp is certain networks.
A lot of people don't like to, sir, do I have to do that?
He just goes, okay.
Which one?
CNN, MSDNC?
He'll say, all right, thank you very much.
He actually looks like, he's like the only guy I've ever seen.
He really looks forward to it.
And then he just goes and absolutely obliterates them.
Say a couple of words.
