It's rare that I come across anyone from the relatively obscure country of my birth.
Floridly, delusional, and venomously hostile conspiritualist Sasha Stone is one such person.
You remember him, right?
He and I were both born in the African country of Zimbabwe.
And here on the pod, we did an open letter to Sasha Stone after he and someone called Kevin Jenkins had called for harassment and violence against public health officials during an October 2020 online conference called Line in the Sand.
It was back in October of 2020.
Dr. Christiane Northrup was on screen for some of that exchange, just nodding along.
It was really our first experience of this radicalizing turn during the pandemic.
I'll refresh your memory on that conversation in a minute.
What you just heard was him speaking at the Conscious Life Expo on February 13th of this year, 2024.
And it's being at that conference and recording that footage that made me realize, in a strange way, Sasha Stone is kind of my mirror world doppelganger.
Now you probably remember that we're borrowing this term doppelganger and the associated phrase mirror world from Naomi Klein's book from last year.
We had her on the podcast to talk about it but the quick summary is that Through the course of the pandemic, there has been this strange political inversion in which we're not actually seeing two ideologies at war with each other.
We're seeing an actual ideology and then a make-believe, fantastical, propagandistic, inverted pretense of an ideology that is emerging to Fight against it.
That's the mirror world idea, right?
It's the January 6th insurrectionists thinking that they're fighting to save democracy, right?
It's the anti-vaxxers calling themselves the Truth Movement, right?
It's the people who have the biggest megaphones in the alternative media space continuously complaining that they're being censored while they're reaching millions of people.
That's the mirror world in a nutshell, yeah?
And for Naomi Klein, the doppelganger effect really has to do with how Again and again, she would find herself mistaken for Naomi Wolf.
They have the same first name.
They both moved in feminist circles earlier in their academic careers.
They both published very well-received books right off the bat.
And they both have husbands who have similar names.
There's a lot of similarities there.
But they've ended up on radically different sides of the spectrum through the course of the pandemic.
With Naomi Klein remaining an insightful intellectual leftist and Naomi Wolf becoming increasingly red-pilled and right-wing and appearing all the time on Steve Bannon's War Room podcast to give you a sense of her valence.
So that's the doppelganger concept in short summary.
Sasha Stone may well be my doppelganger in the weird mirror world that we study called conspirituality.
So back in 2020, we covered the Line in the Sand conference in the early days of this podcast, before we were able to use captured audio clips.
We just weren't technologically advanced yet.
