All right, back by popular demand, everybody.
This is the Pop Culture Power Hour with Daisy Phelps, our resident Swifty and pop culture expert, I guess.
She at least pays attention.
She knows what's going on.
And Blake Neff, who always has a contrarian take.
We love him for it.
You're not going to miss it.
We go through allegations against Jay-Z and Diddy and LeBron James, question mark.
As well as Joe Burrow's cheating scandal and much, much more.
As well as the Duke Lacrosse accuser coming out and finally admitting that she falsely accused these people.
What were the ramifications of that false accusation and what can we learn from it?
That and so much more.

Yeah, that's you.
You're also our resident Swifty.
We try not to judge her too harshly for that.
Andrew, I've got to say she was totally correct on Taylor Swift's impact on the presidential election.
There was a lot of stuff where people were thinking Taylor Swift is their secret weapon.
They have this whole plan for her to make it Kamala.
And Daisy just said she's going to do some one-off endorsement and it's not going to matter and she's not going to talk about it again.
And she was right!
And that she did it the second the debate ended so that no one talked about it.
It wasn't in the news at all.
Yeah, I've got to give her credit where credit's due.
Thank you.
She nailed that one.
I don't feel as obligated to give her credit, but I will say, I actually had the same instinct.
I feel like the blowback on Taylor Swift in 2020 was, I would say, pretty harsh from half the country, and therefore she wanted to find a way to sort of thread the needle, do what she felt like she'd check the box and move on.
And you were right, Daisy.
You were right.
Thank you.
But that is not where we're starting.
If anywhere, we're starting on the other pop culture icon, female singer, more with the Beyonce side, because some massive, massive, I wouldn't say revelations, but allegations have come out that Involving Jay-Z. Now, so we all know about what's going on with Puff Daddy.
Alright?
P. Diddy.
Did we use the Puff anymore?
Sean Combs.
I've never heard anyone refer to him as that.
Like, it's only Diddy.
I don't know if it's like a generational thing or what.
P. Diddy or Diddy.
But I think it's obsolete.
I think Andrew might be showing his generation here.
Yes, I'm very millennial in this conversation.
But I was planning on going down the list.
I actually think that the waterfall of names is a pretty funny thing.
I mean, you've got something similar with, who am I thinking of?
We'll skip that, I guess.
But there's names.
See, this is how bad I am at pop culture, which is why you're here, Daisy.
So, here's the point.
Oh, it's like Lion, right?
What's the guy's name?
I'm really lost now.
You have Blake, who doesn't know anything about pop culture, and me, who wasn't conscious for any pop culture until, like, 2010. So...
Snoop Dogg, Snoop Lion.
There was, like, stuff like...
Anyways.
Snoop Dogg-y dog.
My only knowledge of Snoop Dogg is when he, like, came back for his, like, second or third career with Martha Stewart and now does all those, like, random collabs with her.
I know.
He's so, like, establishment and brand vibe now.
He's doing, like, this guy who was literally in gangs.
Anyways, that's another story.
So, okay.
So, Diddy...
A very high-profile case against him.
Freak-offs.
He was recording people doing terrible things, inviting them.
Underage women have come out and sued him.
Allegations of rape.
Very disturbing things.
Now, which is interesting because there's a lawyer named Tony Busby who's been on this show when he was defending Ken Paxton from impeachment in Texas.
He is now representing many of these accusers and he sent a letter that I believe we have a copy of, 135. Actually, he sent a letter making these allegations and then Jay-Z replied back with this.
This is a wild letter.
That Jay-Z wrote back.
Daisy, tell us more about this letter.
I mean, it seems like he wrote it.
Yeah, it's like he...
To write this letter, you almost think someone, like, has to be innocent because it's gonna...
Like, this is even worse if it comes out that this stuff is true and he wrote this entire letter.
One weird thing I did find about this letter is that he writes that he is just a young man from the Bronx or from...
From Brooklyn, from the project out of Brooklyn.
Jay-Z's like almost 60. So I don't know why he's referring to himself as a young man.
But basically, Diddy was already in this lawsuit from Busby with a 13-year-old girl who said she was raped in 2000 at an after party, a VMA after party.
And there was a male celebrity and an unnamed female celebrity there.
And then they named the male celebrity as Jay-Z, which Jay-Z and Beyonce...
Are very publicly friends with Diddy.
They've always been friends with Diddy.
And so people have been, like, talking about their connection with Diddy ever since this grand jury indictment stuff came down on Diddy.
He was arrested.
Everything like that.
And this was the first person that was actually named, which Tony Busby did say a couple weeks ago when Diddy was first arrested.
He said, like, names will be coming out.
It's people that you would have never expected.
Everyone is involved in this.
And I think that people in...
Everyone online kind of saw it as an Epstein thing.
Everyone's really excited to get the list, but no one actually believes that we're going to get the list.
It's just one of those things that it's going to live on in conspiracy theories.
And then we got this Jay-Z name and people were like, oh my gosh, we might actually be getting more names.
And Tony Busby says that he's not...
He's backing down from this.
He's going to keep naming names.
But Jay-Z's letter is very, very intense.
He released it on his business brand Instagram account.
And he's very adamant that he did not do this.
And he calls out Tony Busby and says, like, you're a Marine.
You're supposed to know what honor is.
And you messed with the wrong person.
And Tony Busby said that he's not backing down.
And this is still an ongoing case.
Yeah, Blake, he makes a point in this letter where he says, if you believe all this stuff is true, why is this not a criminal case?
Which I actually thought was an interesting point.
He said, you know, if you believe that a minor is getting raped, and you say, I did it, why are you...
Why is this a civil case?
Explain that.
Well, so keep in mind, it is a lower burden of proof.
And a lot of these cases, they are old and hearsay.
And this will just be me controversial.
These sorts of sordid cases, they do get a lot of their mileage out of just how incredibly scandalous it is.
And let's be honest, a lot of the time, people are looking for a payout.
They're looking for Yeah, like a settlement.
Yeah, they're looking for a settlement.
And that doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen, but I think there are certainly plenty of cases where they play up minor behavior to make it seem much more severe, or they invent stuff out of whole cloth.
And I'm just going to be controversial and say I think people have learned the script at this point where if you come forward at the right time, because he's already someone who's vulnerable because the Diddy thing is happening, there's a bit of a feeding frenzy, so...
I mean...
These allegations...
What year did they happen in?
2000. 2000. That is 24 years ago.
That's before everyone has a smartphone in their pocket.
That's before there's cameras showing where everyone is at all times.
So you could very plausibly...
You can basically just make whatever allegation you want.
And could it ever be proven?
I don't think so.
This girl is still remaining anonymous.
Like, she goes by Jane Doe in the lawsuit.
So they're...
I don't know.
There's a lot that goes into the beyonds.
I mean, Diddy's stuff is very provable.
Everyone knows he's a horrible person, so I think it does play into the whole Me Too thing.
There's an element of a girl can say this, and a Jay-Z who has a net worth of $2.5 billion or something like that could be like, okay, I'll give you a million dollars.
That's without even other possibilities.
Sometimes people are just nuts.
There's a person I know who was...
It didn't even end up getting filed, but they were privately accused by someone, and it seemed like there were all these signs, oh, this could be real, this person is a respected member of the community.
And it just turned out the person had mental problems, and they were just targeting a famous person.
I think we had that guy on the show, but we've seen this ruin people's lives.
Jay-Z wouldn't have as big of an impact as it would have on a C-list celebrity.
This is their entire reputation.
I don't know.
I feel like there's equal opportunity.
The most interesting aspect of this that we haven't hit on yet is it's caused people to finally ask, wait, how did Jay-Z actually meet Beyonce?
Because now people are saying, were they a couple when she was...
16 instead of when she was 19?
I have seen this, but there's a lot there.
Well yeah, put up 142 the b-roll there.
This is like, so Beyonce was born in 1981 and Jay-Z was born in 1969, it looks like.

So we just finished talking about Jay-Z and Diddy.
Jay-Z is married to Beyonce.
Beyonce is also close with Diddy.
When Diddy got arrested, it started this whole firestorm on the internet, TikTok, X, Instagram, that basically people on the internet are believing that Jay-Z and Beyonce have killed people.
How many people?
There's three that are specific.
That's a lot of people.
So one of these people is Michael Jackson.
Not that they've specifically killed them, but that there is some sort of high up power ring in Hollywood.
People have always been discussing this and that it has had some sort of hand.
I do want to hear the rest of it.
I just want to make very clear these are allegations.
These are internet rumors.
Continue.
People on the internet are believing this.
People on the internet have long believed there's like a Hollywood power ring that controls things.
It's all very conspiratorial.
And after the Diddy stuff, people started to put together the deaths of Michael Jackson and I don't know who that is.
From TLC. You were saying they all have the same birthday?
Yeah, so Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Diddy were all born on the 4th, and then they all have album titles that have the number 4 in there.
The 4th of a month?
And then Lisa Lopez, Michael Jackson, and Aaliyah all died on the 25th.
Okay.
Why would they want that pattern?
I don't know, but people have started to put this together, and then there's a song called She Knows by J. Cole.
We can't play it on the radio, obviously.
But J. Cole mentions in this song all three of their deaths and said, like, the whole song is like, she knows.
She knows.
We all know that she knows.
And then all these award shows, people winning Grammys, video awards, and they all thank Beyonce when they win.
So we have a couple of those clips.
Let me pull it up.
So 136 is Lizzo thanking Beyonce when she wins her Grammy.
Beyonce, you changed my life.
You sang that gospel medley and the way you made me feel.
I was like, I want to make people feel this way with my music.
So thank you so much.
And then 137 is Adele thanking Beyonce for her Grammy in 2017. Tonight winning this kind of feels full circle and I'm very humbled and I'm very grateful and gracious but my artist of my life is Beyonce in this album for me.
The Lemonade album was just so monumental Beyonce and so well thought out.
And so beautiful and soul-bearing.
We f***ing adore you.
You are our light.
And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering and you make them stand up for themselves.
And I love you.
I always have.
And then, I think probably everyone remembers, I don't know if you remember this, but clip 141, Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift.
Even I remember this one.
Okay, at the VMAs.
And this clip has kind of lived in infamy.
Everyone's talked about it.
But it got resurfaced because after all these Beyonce conspiracy theories started happening, everyone was like, wait, maybe Kanye West was trying to protect Taylor Swift.
Save her life?
Because if you don't thank her...
If you don't thank her, then who knows what's going to happen, allegedly.
This is like the plot of like a...
A horror movie or something.
I think if this...
I mean, obviously this is all legend.
I think Ryan Murphy could make a really cool TV show out of this or something.
If you don't say Beyonce three times to the mirror, she'll appear with a kitchen knife.
Yeah, so we have 141 of Kanye interrupting Taylor if we want to play it for the throwback.
I sing country music, so thank you so much for giving me a chance to win a VMA award.
Yo, Taylor!
I'm really happy for you.
I'm going to let you finish.
But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.
One of the best videos of all time.
He was just trying to save her life, apparently.
I think that was like 2008?
2010, I think.
I think it happened when I was just starting college.
Maybe 2009, maybe 2009. I remember it.
Also, Angelo, very helpful, sent me a note that Lisa Lopez is from TLC. They sing the Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls song.
I don't know that song.
I know that song, but I know it from, they sing it in We're the Millers.
So I don't really know it.

Alright, so before we leave this Jay-Z thing and this Diddy thing, I do want to bring up the LeBron James angle.
This is something, you know, maybe I forgot Snoop Lion, Snoop Dogg or whatever, but I do follow sports closely.
And LeBron James has for many years, basically 20 years in the league, been the best player in the league.
Essentially, if you take it by average, there's been years where some other players would come up and take him.
But here's what I will say.
20, 22 years in the league, he's been basically the best player.
He has taken time away from the game.
And he is now, for personal reasons, he missed like 20 three-pointers in a row, something that has never happened in his career.
He's saying he's gassed, he's tired, he's saying he may not play in the league that much longer.
So there's a lot of rumors going on about LeBron.
Is he going to get traded?
Is there something else going on?
So all of this kind of overlaps with the Jay-Z Diddy scandal that's going on.
The fact that Jay-Z just got looped into this, and is there going to be something with LeBron?
Now, this is all internet rumor, obviously unsubstantiated.
We have no reason to believe this is true, but I will say there is this one clip that is circulating.
Remember, the freak offs are the big story with Diddy and all of the mishaps that happened there, the criminality, allegations of rape.
Let's go ahead and play cut 124. This is a, a, from a sort of like a, I guess it was an Instagram stream, Daisy, maybe you know, um, where, you know, LeBron joined Diddy and he's got, Diddy's got his friends or maybe even his son behind him and they're, they're talking about Diddy's parties, 124. Hey, everybody know, ain't no party like a Diddy party, so.
Yeah, that's what's up.
Not a good look.
You, Yeah, we were throwing that B-roll up there too, of them together, which I hope we can still play.
So now there's all this speculation with Jay-Z getting wrapped up into it.
Maybe LeBron is having, knows something's coming down the pike.
But again, Internet rumors, speculation.
I'm sure Blake will tell me there's nothing to this story.
I don't know.
I think LeBron, the thing about LeBron, like, super villainous stuff with LeBron is LeBron is sort of, like, when he's annoying, it's almost in this, like, childish way, if that makes any sense.
One thing that never got investigated, at the peak of the...
I don't think it was during Floyd.
It might have been slightly before it.
But he very obviously faked...
Someone faked a hate crime against LeBron's front door where they were like...
Someone graffitied hateful stuff.
And considering it's LeBron James, a very famous person, this got...
No one was talking about it very soon after, and they've never spoken of it since.
I think it's very obvious something suspicious happened there.
And then, like, the things where he'll try to be a thought leader, and he'll just be reading the first page of every book.
Like, there's no evidence LeBron James has ever read past the second page of any book ever.
And, like...
And obviously the decision...
Like, he's always just, like, corny.
And then, you know, he won't say anything bad about China, because, like, that's the brand.
And...
I find it hard to believe a guy who goofs up in all of these funny ways would be involved in anything super sinister with Diddy.
Is LeBron even rumored to cheat on his wife?
All of these guys are really bad.
He's just a family guy.
He wants to be a dad.
He wants his son to be in the NBA even though he's not that good at basketball.
Well, he does know about Diddy parties, apparently.
And I'm just saying.
I think the two things can be true.
I think if we do end up getting, like, lists of names from these Diddy parties as people talk about it, I think there's probably a lot of people that were just...
Happened to be invited, happened to be there.
And I think they were more likely they were like secondary parties happening like downstairs, outside, who knows where, where the real shady stuff went down.
And they were probably like, are you good?
Are you going to tell anyone?
NDAs, that kind of thing.
How many people would just get invited to a billionaire rapper's party and they're like, yeah, he's a billionaire rapper, I'm going to go.
And then they go and they're like, that was kind of weird.
I'm sure that there are a lot of people that are probably really scared right now because they might be in photographs or someone might mention them that they were at a ditty party and they're just like normal people that were there.
I think that a lot of times people can get really riled up about the power ring of Hollywood.
I do think there are normal people in Hollywood still.
But there also might be something crazy happening.
They have money.
Well, I think you're right, Daisy, because there's a lot of photographs of Ellen DeGeneres.
She was really close to Diddy, and she had the tweet about cuddling Diddy or something.
Anyways, she's now in Great Britain, and we don't have to deal with Ellen DeGeneres anymore.
Yeah, her house flooded immediately upon going.
It's almost like karma.
So, hey, Blake, you really want to hit this story about Joe Burrow.
So take it away.
I know nothing about it.
Daisy knows a lot about this, too.
It perfectly overlaps.
And, you know, it's a better sport than the NBA, in my opinion.
So Joe Burrow is the quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals.
He is very good.
The Bengals...
Are not so good.
It's been a weird season.
He's having one of the best seasons ever for a guy on a losing team.
But they were on Monday Night Football this week, and I can't remember.
Did they win this time, or did they lose in another back-breaking fashion?
They lost to the Cowboys, I think.
Oh, wait!
No, the Cowboys lost.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
The Cowboys...
It was close, though.
Wacky punt.
Well, the Cowboys blocked that punt, and then it was recovered by the Bengals.
So, like, they should have had a good play.
27-20, Bengals won.
They won.
But anyway...
But they're both 5-8 this year.
The downside here is some organized burglars, you know, they knew Joe Burrow was going to be on Monday Night Football, so they went and they burgled his house...
on you know while he was at the stadium and it turns out the house was not empty and i had never heard of the person who was there but daisy had heard of the person who was there so daisy how about you explain what they found there so olivia ponton she is a she's a sports illustrated model and influencer tiktoker and she's the one
So the story goes that she got to Joe Burrow's house and she called her mom and told her mom that someone robbed his house and that there was a broken window and a bunch of stuff was taken and her mom called the police and said, "My daughter Olivia Ponton is at Joe Burrow's house.
There was a burglary.
She didn't want to call it in." Olivia ends up calling the police and the police ask her why she's there and she says that she is an employee of Joe Burrow's.
Which makes no sense because she's extremely famous.
She lives in LA. Joe Burrow lives in Cleveland.
Also, at what point when you're playing Monday Night Football, would your employee just be at your house unless they're your housekeeper or something?
The police said she was able to give a detailed description of everything that was missing in the house.
Where this gets even more interesting is that Joe Burrow has had a longtime girlfriend who's a normal girl he met.
He went to college in Ohio, right?
I can't remember where, but yes.
Yes, Ohio State.
Oh.
Louisiana, LSU. He went to Ohio State, then LSU. It
does seem that people have discussed, like, there hasn't been a photo of him with this long-term girlfriend for like a year or so.
But they were already pretty private.
Yeah.
And I don't know.
It's weird.
But then also the NFL sent out a memo to everyone that said, this has been happening more than once.
People during their games, their houses are getting robbed.
You might not remember this because you'd have been young, but have you ever heard of Sean Taylor?
I don't know.
Sean Taylor was a player for the Washington Redskins who they were doing that.
They were trying to break into his home during a game.
He had been injured and they didn't realize that so he was not at the game.
He was at home with his family and then they shot and killed him.
I was seven.
I don't remember this.
It's a crazy thing.
I'm just going to come out and say it.
It's probably going to be more common now because we have let organized burglary rings into the United States under Joe Biden's illustrious border policies.
Overlapping story here.
Didn't LeBron James' house get burgled as well in LA? I believe it did.
And we have these Chilean gangs all over the state of California.
Huh.
Yeah, there are just professional rings at this.
And that's a much bigger problem in Latin America.
In Latin America, rich people will have family members kidnapped for ransom.
Kidnapping people for ransom is a TV show plot here.
But it happens in other countries quite often.
Well, I mean, it is a very interesting thing that these are some of the most famous people in the world, and their schedules are just, like, fully on blast.
Like, they know that...
Because Patrick Mahomes' house was robbed.
I think Travis Kelsey's house was robbed.
There was another, like, Vikings linebacker's house was robbed.
They know these people are not going to be at their houses.
And most people don't have, like, 24-7 security.
If you were an organized robber.
Most people don't have...
I don't know if Olivia Ponton is moonlighting as a housekeeper.
But maybe we need to pay for people to have Instagram housekeepers because that's how they were able to catch it and know what was going on.
So this would be like a security issue.
What's the conclusion of this story?
Is it like out and out that they have an affair and...
Has Joe Burrow broken up with his long-term girlfriend?
Neither of them have said anything.
I think the conclusion as of right now is that if you're an NFL player, watch out for your house and also don't cheat on your girlfriends or your wives.
Then you won't have these kinds of problems.
But if he hadn't been cheating, no one would have caught the burglary at the time.
Well, we don't know.
She could have been a housekeeper.
Or she could have been broken up with his girlfriend.
We don't know.
I wish someone would say something.
It could have been on a break.
It could have been the Ross and Rachel thing where they were on a break.
And by the way, happy 35th birthday to Taylor Swift.
My girl, Taylor.
That's for you, Daisy.

Allfamilypharma.com, promo code KIRK. All right, so I was a little, you know, unsure of where we were going to go with this last and final segment, but there are two things Stories that actually kind of work together.
And I have to hit this, Blake.
This is Crystal Mangum, the woman who falsely accused the Duke lacrosse players.
And then I guess she killed somebody who's been in prison.
She's still in prison.
She has come out and has apologized for lying.
And Blake, You can expound upon the ramifications that this story had nationwide after this clip, but let's go ahead and play it.
147. I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn't.
And that was wrong.
And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me and made up a story that wasn't true because I wanted validation from people and not from God.
And that was wrong.
And I hope that they can forgive me.
Blank.
I mean, it's crazy, actually, the butterfly effect of this case.
A lot of people don't know.
So Stephen Miller, currently Deputy White House Chief of Staff, one of the smartest guys in the administration.
He was a Duke student at the time this was all going down.
He was he made a name for himself opposing the the lynch mob that they whipped up against these lacrosse players.
And, you know, he's a talented guy.
I think he would have followed a similar course anyway.
But we can think that's the first time America saw Stephen Miller in any capacity.
And also, that was probably important to his ideological formation, that he went through this, that he saw how the left operated up close.
And it's so telling.
It's such a perfect microcosm of so many of the forces we would see in the coming years, that people assumed these guys were guilty because, basically, they looked a certain way.
They were just like, everyone knows that these white frat bros just Are raping people constantly.
And that was somehow considered a valid argument.
Blake, this also had legislative and bureaucratic agencies got involved and they started changing the way universities had to deal with these sexual assault allegations nationwide.
Yeah, so, I mean, we're going to have to get rid of this with the new Trump administration because the Obama administration came up with these rules where they said to adhere to Title IX, you actually have to have kangaroo courts, like your threshold for considering someone guilty of or responsible for sexual assault.
It has to just be preponderance of the evidence, which is you have to evaluate as 50% likely or more.
Yeah.
And they would say, yeah, you actually have to have hearings that don't follow, you know, you don't have to confront your accusers.
You don't even necessarily get to know who your accusers are.
And they would say, you have to do this, or you violate Title IX. And Trump got rid of that in his first term.
And then Biden, there were so many things going bad with Biden that didn't get a lot of attention, but he brought that back and made it worse.
And we need to throw that out immediately and try to give that teeth, because...
It's almost forgotten now, but a lot of the 2010s, you have these shrill claims.
They would say, like, one in four.
Did you ever hear that number when you were in school, Daisy?
Yeah, I think we all had to take, like, a Title IX class our first week at college, basically.
They would claim, like, one in four women are raped on college campuses.
Like, that's...
Those are numbers that you get during, like, a civil war in Central Africa.
It is not what is going on on an Ivy League campus.
And you would get these strange things...
Yes?
Oh, go ahead.
Go ahead.
Oh, I was just going to say, it also, like, we've created this problem for ourselves where now women are actually raped or, like, when anyone is sexually assaulted.
It immediately makes you be like, wait, are you telling the truth?
Because we wanted to do this whole believe women, believe women, but then we've seen multiple cases where women are not telling the truth.
So it makes it harder to believe people that are actually telling the truth, and it's sad.
It's really sad.
Well, everything that the left does, and they sort of They sort of put out into the universe as their source of compassion, that they're the nice people and that conservatives are bad, ultimately has this boomerang effect, this backfire effect.
Me Too had this backfire effect, where now we just sort of assume that many I don't know if this was a pop culture topic
or not, but it certainly, I think, was worth covering.
Thanks so much for listening, everybody.
We'll talk to you soon.
