Senator Scott's Bold Plan 00:09:14
Hey everybody, it's Anna Charlie Kirk show.
We sit down with Senator Scott from Florida.
We don't agree on everything in this conversation, but I certainly do appreciate somebody that puts together a plan that's willing to say what they believe and then defend it.
He came here with no notes and honestly, he said, ask me anything.
I want more politicians to do that.
We agree on most everything, honestly, but we certainly disagreed on Ukraine.
And I pressed him a little bit on it.
I think that spirit of disagreement is what keeps our country strong.
Get involved with Turning Point USA as well, tpusa.com.
So enjoy this conversation with Senator Rick Scott from Florida.
And I'd love your thoughts on it, freedom at charliekirk.com.
Enjoy.
Charlie, what you've done is incredible here.
Maybe Charlie Kirk is on the college campus.
I want you to know we are lucky to have Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.
I want to thank Charlie.
He's an incredible guy.
His spirit, his love of this country, he's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA.
We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.
That's why we are here.
Brought to you by the loan experts I trust, Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific Mortgage at andrewandTodd.com.
With us is Senator from the great state of Florida, Senator Rick Scott.
Where you are today.
That's right.
And you have what?
Thousands and thousands of young people.
Thousands and thousands of young people.
And Senator, I don't think you get the credit you deserve of laying the conservative foundation in Florida.
You were a great governor before now that you are a senator.
And so.
And try to be a good senator.
You know, you're a wonderful part up there.
Yeah, I know.
How is it different, by the way, running a state versus being part of a clown car?
Well, you know, I built companies, and so I gave myself the title of CEO, right?
And no one hired me.
And so you get the CEO, you get to run things, and governor, you get to run things.
Up there, you don't get to run anything, and it's completely dysfunctional.
I mean, here, you know, my eight years as governor, I never talked about party.
I never talked about being a Republican.
I talked about solving problems, okay?
Up in D.C., it's all partisan.
It's a, I mean, you know, guys like Chuck Schumer wouldn't even talk to me.
I mean, the only thing, the only time he brings up my name is when he attacks me on the student floor.
So what we've got to do is we've got to go be problem solvers, right?
As a business guy, you don't have a choice of saying, I don't like your politics.
You say, so how do we solve the problem for a customer?
And that's why I tried to do his governor.
I had a ball.
What do you think is the root of a lot of that dysfunction?
I mean, I think, one, it makes good TV.
And two, it's just who we've elected.
I think, here's what I think about.
I think you've got to have the president, the governor, and the mayors have the biggest pulpits, right?
And so you've got to have governors, presidents, and mayors that say, I'm going to focus on issues, not be divisive.
And if you look at, look, Biden, he's divisive.
You know, he said, remember, he said he was going to be this United or whatever he called himself.
He's not at all.
He attacks people.
He attacks me.
I mean, I just put out a plan to say, let's figure out how we rescue this country.
And he attacks me.
I mean, why would you...
Why did he attack you?
I'm just curious, what did he say?
Oh, I mean, he just said Rick Scott wants to raise everybody's taxes.
No, you know what I said?
I said, if you're able-bodied, right, you ought to go to work.
Don't be dependent on government.
I mean, you shouldn't be in public housing.
I lived in public housing growing up.
You shouldn't be on food stamps, okay?
Unless you're working.
So if you, if you, look, if you have a job and you don't get paid enough, I get it.
But if you want to sit at home, that's wrong.
We're all in this together.
It's really, really rich to get an attack from Biden about raising taxes as he has the worst inflation ever, which is a tax on the American people.
I'm a little taxed right now.
So I want to talk about your plan because I first want to compliment you.
You have a plan that actually step one.
Yeah, that takes a spine to do because it means you're going to have to defend certain things and disagree on certain things.
And to be honest, I don't know if I agree or disagree on the hats thing.
Because I didn't agree on every of both ways, I'll be honest, because I could see some people that might have to pay more.
And at the same time, I think it is moral to have everyone invested in society.
We could talk about that.
But I want to compliment you because one of my big complaints against GOP leadership is no one knows what the heck they stand for.
So before we go any further, why is it that you not, you haven't been a senator for very long, 2018, right?
You come out with this plan.
Why hasn't this been done before?
Before we get into some of the details.
Well, I think I'm the only Fortune 50 CEO in the Senate.
And partially, you know, in business, it's what you have to do, you have to write a plan, and then you build a management team.
You've probably done that here, right?
And a smaller extent.
But right, you build a plan, okay?
You go get investors, right?
And then you build a team around that, right?
That's what we should be doing.
And then, and so we ought to, if we want to get something done, you got to like, if I say, if I, if I came to you and said, Charlie, Charlie, I want you to invest in me in my race, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
I'm actually sure, you know, if I want to get anything done, what do you think?
But that's what most candidates say, though.
And it's remarkable.
We shouldn't be doing that.
I agree.
And then hold us accountable.
We should say, this is what we're going to do, and then hold me accountable.
When I ran for governor, I said, I won my race by saying, I have a seven-step plan to 700,000 jobs over seven years.
Okay.
This state, people forget.
When I ran in 10 for governor, this state had lost 800,000 jobs in four years.
Home prices had dropped in half.
1.1 million homes were in foreclosure.
They were raising tuition 15% plus inflation.
And so people said, oh, gosh, a guy's got a plan to fix things.
Maybe I'll elect that guy.
And we did.
That's a Florida a lot of us don't remember.
No.
Kind of right now, it's the gold rush Florida where it's just endless boom.
But that was in 2010.
Wow.
So the so we, so I, so as soon as I got elected, I had met Rick Perry, didn't know him, but Rick Perry had been the gold standard for the operation.
So I went, I saw Rick at an event and I said, Rick, I'm going to tell everybody I'm going to kick your butt.
And so he said, oh, good, I'll act like I'm worried.
And so we did press conferences together and all this stuff.
And we just, you know, sort of trash-talked each other's state.
And we built unbelievable states.
We added the private sector in my years had 1.7 million jobs, over 200,000 jobs a year, became number one higher education.
By guess what?
We had a plan.
I said, you're not going to raise tuition, and I'm going to pay you based on whether kids get jobs and how much money they make.
What did you think about school?
One, I didn't enjoy going to school.
I only went to school because they were going to pay me more money.
Yes.
Well, I mean, I grew up in Illinois, so I certainly didn't enjoy anything about my public school, but it was way too bloated.
I was born there, right?
I left early.
Yeah, well, you were smarter than I was for, well, I was there for about 18, 20 years.
So you have this plan.
That's actually the first pillar of your plan.
Education.
You say on your plan's website, rescueamerica.com, our kids will say the Pledge of Allegiance, salute the flag, learn that America is a great country, and choose the school that fits, that best fits them.
This is an 80, 90% issue.
Right.
It's pretty basic.
So what could the potential pushback against that be?
Well, first off, you know, the government wants to decide what school you go to, right?
I mean, first off, you pay the taxes, it's your money as a parent.
You give it to government, and then government says, well, no, you have to go to this school.
And we're going to teach you that if you're one skin color, you're an oppressor and another skin color, you're oppressed.
And by the way, we're going to teach you that this is a racist country.
That's not true.
I mean, our founding fathers created the greatest, greatest country.
We've had more success in this country than any place in the entire world.
And so we ought to learn.
This is the greatest country ever.
Ever.
No, there's nothing, nobody close second.
Number two, say the Pledge of Allegiance.
You know, I got married really young.
I got married at 19, so I already have grandkids.
When my four-year-old grandson, we were in the end of it, and they said, oh, we'll give you a sicker if you say the Pledge of Allegiance.
I didn't know he knew it.
He did.
So, I mean, it was, I mean, think about how it makes you feel as a grandparent.
That's what people ought to know.
They ought to know we're the best country.
We believe in this country.
We're going to make it better.
And so that's, I mean, and you ought to choose as a parent.
And so talk about Florida's education model.
Because at one point, Florida's education was not the best.
And now it's basically the gold standard.
Yeah, I agree.
And I'm not a fan of Jeb Bush, I'll be very honest.
But he started.
But no, he deserves credit for it.
I say this all the time.
It's the best thing the Bush family has done in the last 20 years.
Here's what he did right, though.
Okay, we would all disagree on exactly how you would do the measurement, but he created a measurement system.
When did he do it?
Like 2000, 2008?
So he was in 12 years before me.
All right.
So 1998.
Wow.
Yeah.
So he got, yeah, so he got elected in 80s because Chris got elected in 60.
He's running again.
Oh, yeah.
You heard about the Republican, the Democrat, and the Independent that walked into the bar.
And it's one guy.
He says, hi, Charlie.
Exactly.
So the Charlie Chris.
But no, what he did was he created a measurement system.
Good Ranchers and School Reform 00:03:46
And then because parents, then parents started looking at which school do I want to go to.
So when I became governor, the best school district in the state was St. John's County.
It had unbelievable growth of all these young families because they want their kids to go to the best schools.
So think about it.
It forced our schools to get better.
And so then in the higher education, what I did is I paid for results and paid.
We had 11 universities.
Eight of them were getting no money.
It was up to $100 million a year.
And it was tied to, do you get a job?
How much money do you make?
And what's it cost to get a degree?
So we stopped the tuition increases.
And people said, we're going to focus on where the jobs were.
Because when you go to school, that's what you expect.
I mean, that's, so it was, it was, um, it was a good job.
It was great to be the governor.
It was a good job.
So you put education first.
You should run for governor.
I should?
Yeah.
Oh, I'm not really.
Even though I don't understand.
And we got a whole slate in Arizona already running.
That's quite a race.
But you put education first.
Tell me why.
Is there a hierarchy to the order?
Well, I look at my life and how did I get ahead?
Okay.
Wonderful mom, lives in public housing.
She said, you're going to get ahead because you're going to go get an education and you're going to go to work.
And so I think the most important thing you can do for somebody is get them a job, but they got to get an education first.
So if you want to build it, if you want to build a country, if you want to build anything, you've got to give people a great foundation.
And it's education.
Look, gathering around the table, it's been a catalyst for change since the beginning of time.

And it is morally wrong when you see what the government schools have done in so many of these inner cities, Chicago, Baltimore.
Wake Up to Federal Overreach 00:04:22
How unfair.
New York.
That's exactly the right thing.
These poor kids, these poor kids that have mom and dad that have ambitions for their kids, just like we all have for our kids, right?
And they're stuck in these schools where they don't care whether they learn to read or write.
They don't care if they progress.
They just automatically send them.
They don't have any accountability.
And so it's wrong.
Look, the parents are working.
They don't know.
One thing that has happened with COVID, people have learned.
That's right.
So you should choose your kids' school.
The Republican Party, if it leaned into the school choice issue more, would be rewarded politically.
Okay, so then colorblind equality.
This shouldn't have to even be on your list.
Pretty simple, right?
But why are we doing this?
Why should they separate us by color?
Right?
You shouldn't ask people.
Government should never ask you your skin color, your race, your religion, any of these things.
They shouldn't ask you any of that, any of those things.
We should judge people based on their character.
Yes.
Isn't that what Martin Luther King said?
Yeah, but this whole new regime that has taken over the kind of civil rights apparatus in the Department of Justice is doing the opposite.
It's hyper-focused on race, hyper-focused on gender, hyper-focused on these things.
And, you know, so you say colorblind equality, and what I find interesting about it is that the very people that say they're anti-racist are acting remarkably racist in every single one of these programs.
Right.
And I mean, I would love to not talk about race as much as we do in our country right now.
And we're Americans.
Yes.
Right.
We should talk about being Americans and how we want to continue to make this country a better place and create more opportunity.
We can't guarantee equality.
Some people might not want to work as hard as somebody else.
Right.
So, you know, so we've got to say, we're going to create you, we're going to give you the, this is going to be the land of opportunity.
If you can go do whatever you want to do.
If you want to go be an actor, go be an actor.
If you want to run for president, do it.
If you want to build a business, do whatever you want to do.
And we're not going to decide for you.
Yes.
I always thought about life this way.
Government should get the heck out of my life, right?
I love my mom.
I hate her to tell me what to do.
I don't need government dictating things to me.
Don't tell me where I need to go to school.
Don't tell me how I need to think.
Don't tell me any of those things.
Let me lead my life.
And allowing people to have the agency to choose and not be discriminated against just based on the color of their skin.
And we'll all get better.
Yes.
Because we'll have success, we'll have failure, and it forces us constantly to get better.
Do you feel that most Republicans on Capitol Hill are comfortable talking about this?
Because it seems as if some members are just always playing into the left's narrative when it comes to these issues.
I think in politics, I think a lot of people don't want to talk about the tough issues.
But that's what we get elected to do, right?
And we've got to talk about the tough issues.
We got to lead.
And, you know, not everybody's going to agree with us.
And you know what?
They could be right.
So let's go talk about it and then talk beyond.
Well, I mean, for example, we have CRT classes at West Point.
We have 6 million man hours in the military that have been dedicated to this stuff.
And so now it's at the top levels of our military.
Right.
It's all, no, it's pervasive.
All right.
This woke mentality is pervasive.
It's in our companies.
It's in our military.
So our military has one job: be able to be the most lethal force in the world to be able to defend our freedoms.
That's their job.
Our federal government really has two roles, in my opinion.
Make sure you have a military that can defend us and do a good job on commerce and get the leaves and daylights out of our lives.
Especially on the federal level, yes.
But, you know, government should be as local as you can.
Yes.
People come to me all the time and say, well, the federal government ought to do this.
How did that become a federal issue?
I might care about the issue, but that should either be done at the city, the county, or the state.
It shouldn't be a federal issue.
That's exactly right.
And we fall into the trap of thinking that every solution has to come from D.C.
It can, but Charlie.
I mean, it can.
We can't solve all of this.
It also creates further radicalization if every state has to live under every other micromanaged elite preference of D.C. Missouri is going to have different preferences on a variety of issues than Manhattan, just by geography and culture and religious preference.
And we get to move.
That's exactly right.
Like I moved to Florida.
I was born in Illinois.
I grew up in Kansas City.
Crime, Safety, and Mobility 00:02:30
You know, it's cold.
I don't like cold.
That's right.
You're in the right state then.
And I don't think it's fair that the taxes are so much higher there.
So I moved here.
You have the mobility to be able to choose.
So safety and crime number three.
America is becoming a profoundly dangerous country.
We've never seen anything like this.
Violent crime is up double digits year over year.
So you saw what happened, was it yesterday where the Zeldon got attacked?
Assassination attempt.
Yeah, was it the day before?
With the knife?
Yeah, and then the guy is let out.
Hours later.
Charlie, would you ever have thought if you did that as a kid, okay, on top of your parents wanting to reprimand you, right?
Okay.
In my generation, they used yardsticks, and that the government would just immediately let you out of jail.
I mean, we've got to hold people accountable.
I mean, none of us want crime, but if you're going to commit a crime, you need to be held accountable.
And so what the Democrats want to do is they're soft on crime.
They don't think people should be in jail for stealing.
You're stealing.
That's somebody else's stuff.
Exactly.
Have you been to San Francisco lately?
Unfortunately, it is unrecognizable.
It used to be a beautiful American city.

Charlie, I went, you know where the Fairmont is, of course.
So I went in there just to stop there for a second to use facilities.
And I was going to go two blocks away.
Okay.
And people told me, you should ride in a car.
Two blocks?
Yes.
From Fisherman's Wharf to the Trans-America Building.
Yeah.
It is, it's unsafe in the middle of the day.
Right.
And that used to be a beautiful place you'd want to go take a week, take a vacation, walk around.
That's a unique gem in Pearl.
Immigration Debts and Borders 00:15:05
Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, all that stuff.
You wouldn't do it now.
I mean, it's all because it's soft on crime.
So when I was governor, what I did was I built a relationship with the, we have, we had 67 counties, we had 66 sheriffs, and all of our police chiefs.
And I said, I'm going to do, you tell me what I can do to help you make sure that you can hold people accountable.
I don't want crime.
How can we stop it?
How can we prevent it?
Part of it is a good school system.
Part of it is have an accountable juvenile justice system, things like that.
And so we did it.
Making sure people serve their times.
We did those things.
And guess what?
47-year low on our crime rate.
And I think it's continued down since I left.
Number four is immigration.
You say we'll secure our border and finish building the wall and name it after President Donald Trump.
I think that one got people really fired up.
So illegal immigration is a huge problem, but I do want to ask you about legal immigration, where my personal preference would be that we need to limit legal immigration as well.
What's your take on that?
So here's what I think.
First off, we have to secure a border.
And then what we have to do is we have to say, so who do we want?
Who do we want to come into our country?
It's our choice.
Yes, it is.
Not somebody else's choice.
And we ought to have a merit-based immigration system that says, okay, so we want to build this industry.
So we need these type of people to come in.
And by the way, I only want people to come into this country that believe in the American system.
I don't want people to come in and believe in socialism.
They want to make us some other type of country.
But let's decide how many people we can assimilate.
That's the operative word, right?
Assimilation.
Yeah, because they need to become part of America, not part of some other country.
They're not going to change our country.
They're going to become like us.
I mean, I like this country.
I like the capitalist system.
I like our foundation.
I like our Constitution.
I don't want somebody to come in and say, I don't like your Constitution.
I want to change it.
Or I want to call you names because that's what they do.
And so you look at the squad in the House and what they're doing.
I mean, give me a break.
I mean, if you don't like this country, move.
Get out of here.
I mean, go, you know, the Soviet Union probably needs some people right now.
I agree.
And this is what bothers me.
I mean, Elon Omar is a great example.
She was accepted by our generosity and then gets elected to Congress to tell us how terrible we are.
What do you think would be a fair number of legal immigrants?
Because that's really where the debate comes down to, right?
Yeah, I think, I don't think anybody's ever done an analysis.
I've never seen one, what it would be.
But I think what you have to say to yourself is, what would be an amount that would assimilate into our country?
And on top of that, I don't believe if you come here as an immigrant, you shouldn't be going on some government program right away.
I mean, be part of the system.
Help build this country first.
So I think we ought to limit what, you know, you shouldn't be coming here to get on some safety net.
And our safety nets should be short-term safety nets.
They're not permanent safety nets.
So I actually believe people ought to work.
Yeah, right now we have about 1.3 million green cards I know issued every year.
And then we also have the three to four million on the southern border, an extraordinary amount, almost an unsustainable amount.
Here's how bad.
I'll tell you something that happened last week.
So first off, you go to the border, it's open.
It's just open, right?
It's open.
Border Patrol try and do their job.
They can't.
So they pick you up and you immediately get to go somewhere.
So the guy that wants to be reappointed as TSA, whatever, administrator, whatever, he testified last week.
So here's, you know, TSA's a joke.
Yeah.
So you know what they talked about last week?
So here's, you know, they can take ICE arrest warrants and use as their ID to get on a commercial flight with you, Charlie.
So next time you're flying to the great state of Florida, okay, you have to think about, you know, who's not flying from Arizona, so I'll probably have some guy from Azerbaijan next to him.
So here, so go to the border, here's what happens.
People throw their IDs away just before they come across the border because they don't want to know who it is.
This is the dump zone.
Right.
So then Border Patrol takes your picture, does your ID, gives you the arrest warrant, and TSA said, well, that's good enough.
You can fly.
Jordan, by the way, did you follow what happened with the number of people coming out of Afghanistan?
You talk about immigration?
You mean the refugees, or do you mean the illegals that are coming through Mexicali to Yuma?
The people came after the debacle in Afghanistan.
So I'm on Homeland Security, so we're supposed to be doing the investigation.
So we were supposed to be investigating.
So we said we wanted to know how many people came from Afghanistan, who came.
So guess what?
You probably know all this.
Oh, no, you know why you don't?
Because they would only tell us in a classified setting.
Are you kidding me?
Was it classified?
Nothing they told me.
So these people that were given refugee status, is that right?
So 79,000 people came.
I asked it, how'd they come?
Well, they were at the airport in Kabul.
That's how they picked them.
I said, how many Americans out of 79,000?
5,000.
How many people had special visas?
2,000.
I said, have you interviewed all the 79,000?
Whoa, we didn't have time.
Do you know where they are since they came into America?
No.
Are they legally able to stay here?
Yes.
Where are they now?
We don't know.
As soon as you know how they brought them into the bases?
They could leave any time they want.
They were given an ID and going where they went.
Don't you feel comfortable now?
No.
So, Senator, and so I think you can sympathize.
When I say that we need to put a pause on legal immigration, this is why.
And one of my concerns and complaints is there's an oversimplification in Republican circles where they say legal, good, illegal, bad.
I mean, that example there, those are legal.
Yeah.
Who the heck are these people?
You know, Charlie, in your business life, in my business life, what you do is they say, what's my purpose?
Yeah, that's exactly.
That's what you said.
To serve the American citizen.
Start there first.
Yes.
Okay.
Say, what's my purpose?
Then you get to, then you can go over here, right?
And our purpose should be to serve our people and strengthen the country.
It's to represent the 330 million Americans first and build this country.
Look, I love people just like you do.
We want to help people.
Your heart goes out to people.
But you do have an obligation first to represent the people in this country.
So I know we're running low on time.
I want to go through some of these.
I'm only going to mention some of these because we don't have time on it.
Growth in the economy, have to get away from socialism.
Totally agree.
Government reform and debt.
Thank you for mentioning the debt.
It's ridiculous or how Republicans have kind of become the big deficit in debt party.
Charlie, can I bring up something?
Please.
Have you seen the chips bill?
Okay, yeah, microchip bill?
Yeah, the semiconductor bill.
I haven't really been following the drama by the way.
So we're $30 trillion worth of debt.
Chuck Schumer puts something on the floor was $52 billion.
The next day, it was $250 billion.
So you should get in the semiconductor.
You should get in the semiconductor business because here's how.
And that's Silicon Valley.
Yeah, you should get in because they all support us, right?
So you should get in there this week because here's how it's going to work.
We're going to give a company like Intel $4 billion.
So they have to build a plant in America.
We're going to give them $4 billion, give them a write-off for another $4 billion, and give them another billion dollar tax break.
What do they have to do?
Oh, build whatever they want to build that's called semiconductor.
And by the way, Charlie, you love this part.
You know, it's anti-China bill.
So do they have to stop expanding China?
No, that would be too much.
And do they have to...
This is true, Charlie.
And by the way, do they have to say they're not going to keep doing business in China when they invade Taiwan?
No, of course not.
That would be too tough.
And so they could have some sort of LGBT center called a microchip system.
There's no obligation?
Do it everywhere.
They could just call it the LGBT microchip.
I'm being facetious, of course, but it would open it up.
Oh, do we get any money back?
Repatriation?
Guaranteed tax revenue?
Zero.
Yeah, that's a really good example.
Because you feel good.
I haven't followed the details.
No, I don't feel good.
You're actually making me angrier.
So you talk about the debt and deficit.
Fair, fraud-free elections.
You're getting into some territory here.
The media says you're not allowed to talk about.
But our vote should never be diluted.
I mean, people died for this, right?
And people come to this country because they wanted to live in a free country where they get their voice and their ideas.
And so, one, we've got to make sure our elections are fair.
You have to have voter ID.
You can't have ballot harvesting.
And then on top of that, we have to enforce our laws.
Yes.
So, you know, they tried to steal my election in 18.
I went $57,000.
Run the snipes in Broward County.
That's right.
You know, I let her go, and the media agreed with me because I explained what she was doing.
And the person we put in there did a great job.
You saw the 2020 election worked.
It was flawless.
So no vote should be diluted.
And Florida does a beautiful job of that.
You talk about family, gender, life, and science.
We got to build families, Charlie.
We've got to stop this where we tell people, oh, we're going to give you more government money if you're not married rather than if you're married.
So would you go as far, Senator, to say we should pay people to have children?
I mean, I don't know if it's our responsibility, but I think we just don't put people in a position.
They're in a worse position if they have kids.
Yes.
No, I think that's fair.
I mean, I'm all for paying people to have kids, even though I say small government, obviously, and all that.
But man, there's nothing more important.
We've got to fix our birth rate.
It's declining.
It's something I struggle with, right?
One of my daughters has five boys, so she's doing her part.
Yeah, totally.
The other has two, so she's a little piker, but hopefully she'll have more.
How many kids do you have?
We didn't do enough.
We had two.
That came up, my debate.
Somebody said, do you have any regrets about a debate in 2010?
My opponent said, of course not.
I said, yeah, if I didn't know I was going to be broke, we'd had more kids.
Oh, that's so funny.
You say here, men are men and women are women, and unborn babies are babies.
We believe in science.
So you believe the Republican Party should be able to answer the question, what is a woman?
Basically.
Yeah, that's not.
Were you on that committee with Senator Holly?
That was one of the most extraordinary exchanges I've ever seen.
Yeah.
I think that stuff comes up through the judiciary a lot.
Yeah.
Well, that's the dramatic one.
So you talk about religious liberty and big tech, America first.
So I do want to ask you about this one, Senator.
You say, we are Americans, not globalists.
So I don't know if we're going to agree on this.
And I think you said publicly and also privately, this is a tough vote and a tough situation.
So putting America first, I struggle to see how and why sending $56 billion to Ukraine puts our country first.
Yeah, I can understand that completely.
Here's how I looked at it.
I mean, I worry about money, right?
And so that part of me says, oh, gosh, it's a lot of money, right?
And the other part of me says that Ukraine's willing to defend their own freedom, just like Israel.
I admire Israel.
We do support them financially, but they don't want men and women on their soil, American men and women on their soil to defend them.
The Ukrainians are in the same position.
They're willing to defend their freedom.
And if we don't stop Russia there, then if they get to Poland, we're in it.
If Russia decides to go to Poland, then our men and women will be by treaty.
And they invade Poland.
I'm sorry.
Yeah, if they invade Poland, then we're going to be at war.
But they're already bordering Poland.
Charlie, I can.
Because they have a million people in a military base in Kalingrad Oblast or whatever they call it.
Well, and then whether these are good treaties or bad treaties, but they're right next to Lithuania, too, 3 million people.
So that was the way I looked at it.
The way I looked at it was, right, it's a lot of money.
And are we going to be better off to have spent that money to stop Russia there?
Are we going to be in a position that they're going to come into or invade Poland and we'll be in the third?
I appreciate how you're saying it's right or wrong.
These are tough decisions, but do you think it's actually working?
The briefings I get, they're doing well.
We have not given them the resources to be able to push Russia back.
So here's what I believe.
If we're going to do this, we do it to win.
We don't do it for a draw.
We do it to make sure Ukraine wins.
Because otherwise, we'll be doing this.
They'll be coming back for another $40 billion at some point because we'll be doing this for, just like Afghanistan, we'll do it forever.
And we can't.
And it's not right to the American taxpayer.
And so we should be given the weapons that they can win.
They have the will to win.
I couldn't tell you, I know what's going to happen.
Yeah.
So what do you think would be too much money?
Well, you'd hope not to have to do anymore.
You'd hope that you'd hope with the, I mean, it's a lot of money, right?
But that's the GDP of North Dakota we've sent over there.
And we don't even kind of know where the weapons went.
Right.
I think, well, first of all, we tried, and they blocked that.
I know.
Rand had the additional inspector general.
But Charlie, don't worry.
I completely understand.
No, I know.
And I want to thank you for your willingness to talk about it.
So anyway, in closing, it's rescueamerica.com.
You have this plan.
We got to run on a plan, right?
Right.
So what are we going to do?
Why govern?
Well, and also, and this is where I tell Republicans and lawmakers, if you're going to have disagreement, then let's have spirited discussion about it, right?
And it's okay.
But let's fight over something.
Yes.
I mean, I have distractions, right?
I tell people, you have to agree with my plan.
What's yours?
Okay?
So, because I admire what Newt Gingrich did.
One, they ran on something, and they did almost everything.
The only thing they didn't get done was term limits.
I think we ought to have term limits for politicians and for bureaucrats.
I totally agree.
I mean, these people are running our, they act like they own our government.
And as someone who's now been in D.C., are you seeing at least a little bit of a sea change of the citizens that are starting to get more involved?
Oh, I think I'm optimistic.
I'm optimistic.
I think, one, we're going to have a good November.
I mean, here's the deal.
We have good candidates.
The momentum's on our side.
We have to raise our money.
If we do, we have a chance to get the majority in the House and the Senate.
Then we have to govern and we have to stand for something and force it.
Pass stuff and make Biden veto if he's not going to do it and put ourselves in a position that we get a Republican president in 24.
We actually change this country and we have to have dramatic change.
We can't have this incremental change.
It's got to be pretty dramatic.
So yeah, I'm optimistic.
You go around the country, people are excited.
Look at what you're doing.
I mean, what do you have?
5,000 students here.
Yeah, 5,000.
I mean, think about that.
Think about it.
10 years ago, could you have gotten 5,000 students to come to something?
I didn't have $5,000 in the Turning Point Bank account.
Only in America.
And what you're doing is you're exciting people and you're showing them a path to success.
Because that's what you have.
I mean, think about when you're a kid, you don't know how am I going to get anywhere.
So if somebody shows you a path somehow, you can read a book, somebody have a mentor, whatever you do, then you can be excited about something.
That's what you're doing here.
That's right.
There's a 12th point here that I want to mention on your, you say, cutting taxes and then America first.
And then I didn't want to talk about this one super quick.
I'm sorry.
It's number 10.
Religious liberty and big tech.
The Republican Party sometimes is split on big tech.
Religious Liberty vs Big Tech 00:01:49
Is it time to maybe use state power to go after these big companies?
I think we got to hold them accountable.
I mean, they clearly are censoring Republicans.
They're making it difficult for us to raise money.
I don't know.
I don't get it.
Shouldn't they want a capitalistic system?
They've done well with it, right?
They've gotten to become billionaires out of it.
And then they want to attack what we believe in.
That doesn't make any sense.
Well, you opened up my eyes on this chip thing because those are the same companies that they're all part of the censorship regime and they're all kind of our buddy-buddy.
They all kind of operate.
I didn't think about it that way.
We shouldn't be giving money to companies that hate us and then also do business with the CCP, which is the final thing.
There's a lot of anxiety right now about the CCP buying farmland across America.
Do you think that should be illegal?
Yes.
I don't believe that our adversaries should be able to buy anything in America.
Oh, I love that.
They shouldn't be able to buy anything.
Why would you let your, would you, you know, if you were in a business, right, would you let your adversary, you know, lease space from you?
Of course not.
To compete with you, they're buying.
They want to kill us.
You know this.
They're buying Air Force bases.
We know what they're doing.
Right.
And we're letting it happen.
Senator Scott, we're out of time.
You have to speak to our students.
Yeah, this will be fun.
Thanks for the invitation.
Thank you, and thank you for putting forward a plan with clarity.
And you could just smile and say this.
You'd be a great leader one day.
Thank you.
It'd be very nice.
Congratulations on what you're doing.
By the way, what you're doing changes the country.
Thank you.
And so thanks for being here.
Appreciate it.
