Red Flags, Gun Grabs, and GOP Surrender with Ken Paxton and Andrew Pollack

As more comes to light about the Uvalde shooting, Charlie is joined by author, friend, school safety activist, and father of a tragic shooting victim, Andrew Pollack, to make it clear how America can stop horrific mass shootings, especially in our schools. Andrew and Charlie discuss the mental illness crisis the country is in, the importance of securing schools, and why it’s critical to educate parents on how to protect their kids. Next, Charlie is joined by the incumbent and recent Republican primary winner, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, to analyze the unfolding Uvalde police investigation and the ensuing gun control debate raging even amongst conservatives. What the left now labels the “pandemic” of guns, Charlie and AG Paxton weigh in on the legal, political, and constitutional challenges building over the horizon.Support the show: http://www.charliekirk.com/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We want to dedicate this entire hour to solutions.
We got to fix this mass shooting problem in our schools.
Now, mind you, statistically, it is not as consistent with the outrage that it receives from the trend.
But that's not at all to say that this is not unbelievably tragic what's happening.
Now, what do I mean by that?
There have been some changes in how mass shootings are actually considered and tabulated, whatever.
One mass shooting is too much.
It's unacceptable, especially mass shootings at schools.
We shouldn't put up with it.
We're not going to put up with it.
And we got to talk about how we can actually make sure this does not happen again, period.
And this is something that doesn't require too much kind of overthinking, but we're going to have some experts here to help unpack this.
So with us right now is Andrew Pollack.
I got to know Andrew a couple years ago after the tragedy at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas School in Parkland, Florida.
Andrew, welcome to the Charlie Kirk Show.
Oh, thanks for having me on, Charlie.
So Andrew, why don't you introduce yourself to our audience and kind of tragically share how you got into this fight and then let's talk about solutions.
My daughter Meadow was murdered in 2018 at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School.
She was on the third floor.
She was shot nine times.
And, you know, I've never, personally, I've never been the same since she was murdered.
But I owe it to parents and to just the average people in this country to try and educate them in things they could be doing to better protect their children and themselves.
Society, it's a shame how bad society has been going down the path that it's been going down.
But there's definitely solutions out there.
And I think I'd be able to get it.
I could fix it.
It wouldn't take that much, but I have good solutions on a process that will definitely make a difference in this country.
Tell us what that is.
The biggest problem, you know, you mentioned, you said school shootings, but you just go back to, it's all, it's mostly all mass shootings, Charlie, not just at schools.
The same situation happens.
So what happened in, wait, what is this?
I got a fucking call.
They're going to decline.
Okay.
I don't know if you, I had a quote come in.
No problem.
The problem is, look what happened in, look what happened in Buffalo a week ago at that market with that shooting.
You know, similar situation to Parkland.
It wasn't in a school, but that individual threatened to shoot up a school and never arrested.
Okay.
So what happens in this country, a major, major issue, and I'm on the front line of it because my wife works in the ER.
She's an emergency room doctor.
So she sees mentally ill people on a daily basis or just evil people.
You know, it's very close to some people of just pure evil.
So what happens in society is, I'm going to use the buffalo shooter.
He threatened to shoot the school up.
What happens is, okay, they got called in on that shooting and there's no institution to take this individual to.
The police take them.
They use the hospitals as dumping grounds throughout the country.
They'll take that mentally ill person.
They take them to the hospital.
They drop them off.
They get evaluated for about an hour.
And then they're there for less than a day.
And then they're let back into society without anything on their record.
Okay.
Same thing in Parkland.
The shooter threatened to shoot the school up.
He threatened to rape students.
He trespassed at the school.
Never arrested.
Okay.
So they do get brought to the hospital, but the whole system to where they get in front of a judge and it goes on their background to where it's not put on their background, then that gives them the ability to be able to go purchase a firearm legally.
That's where the system's broken, Charlie.
You know, these people that threaten people that are a danger to themselves or to society, it needs to, that process needs to be perfected where it would go on their background.
So they didn't have the ability to purchase a rifle.
So yeah, this is a controversial topic for some people.
It's not for me.
But if I'm not mistaken, in the 70s or 80s, there was kind of a movement to open up the insane asylums.
There was a movement to deinstitutionalize mental health.
Do you think that's played a role in this?
Well, there are no institutions anymore for these type of individuals, and there's nowhere to put them.
And they're not evaluated correctly because 99.9% of the time they're released back into society without anything on their background.
I have a statistic from a buddy of mine.
I don't know if you know John Lott at the Real Time Crime Prevention Network.
And we speak a lot because I get a lot of my information from him.
In the last 25 years, 50% of the shooters were seeing a mental health counselor and nothing was ever put on their backgrounds.
There's no record of it.
So they were able to go commit crimes without having any blemish put on their background.
So, you know, the mental health, the way it's going is failing us.
You know, it's not protecting society.
Sure, you're protecting their gun rights.
I don't know the logistics of it, but I'm just saying that's where the system's broken.
You don't want to hurt people that are just having, like, say there could be someone having a mental breakdown.
That happens.
Their gun rights, you know, there's a fine line.
You know, I don't think they should be looked at.
But the people that are evil, that threaten mass shootings, threaten to kill themselves and others.
There needs to be a system in place where it would go on their background, and a lot of these people wouldn't be able to go and purchase.
Yeah.
And so, what you're saying, though, is that the background checks is part of this, but because of the closure of psychiatric institutions and because of the kind of the political correctness, I suppose, around it, that even if we had the most robust background check, you know, system available, which it's more rigorous than people realize, is the kind of these evil people with these incredibly, I believe,
demonic possessions and thoughts that they're not even getting their records filled out when they get checked into these institutions.
Is that right?
That's 100% correct.
They go, it's not even, they go to the hospital.
I don't even think there's institutions.
They get the police will drop them.
They don't want to deal with them.
Then they'll go to the hospital where there's no beds already.
You know, they're already full to capacity in the ERs.
So what do they want to do?
They want to get it done.
You know, they want them out the door as fast as possible.
So they get put out back into society without anything on their background.
You know, all you do is hear Democrats talking about universal background checks, background checks, but then, you know, they don't believe in holding the criminals accountable.
You know, you got this whole reform movement going on, no bail, just, you know, leniency policies of not arresting.
So gun background checks only work if the criminals and these evil people get arrested and it goes on their background.
That would stop a lot of these mass shootings.
Yeah, and that now you're getting towards something that has been contributing to our homelessness crisis in our country and increase in crime.
I mean, look, in the 1950s, there was anywhere between half a million people in state psychiatric institutions.
Free Wagyu Burgers and Prepper Kits 00:02:48
Now there's 37,000 and our population is nearly double.
And look, this is something that people don't like talking about, but you know, and I think there was probably a good argument that some of these institutions were inhumane.
I get that argument, and they could have been improved.
But the kind of the push to deinstitutionalize was part of the liberation movement in the 70s.
And basically, you're saying that if a kid starts spouting off that he wants to shoot up a school, you're going to go put him on benzodiazepans and Xanax and Prozac and hope it doesn't happen.
Have you ever heard of American Wagu?
No, it's not a superfood that will make you live forever or the name of a newest TikTok dance, terrible app.

I want to just talk about Burna here and play some B-roll here.
Andrew, why don't you tell us about Burna here?
It's B-Y-R-N-A.
I apologize if I'm mispronouncing it.
It's burna.com/slash school safety.
Andrew, tell us about it.
Well, it's a company that I got involved with to try and make a difference and educate parents.
They could go on the website.
Empowering Parents on School Boards 00:03:48
We could come visit schools throughout the country to help them with an active shooter plan to put it in place.
We developed this.
Charlie, I'm going to send you one of these.
I'll talk with your producer.
One of these shields.
Okay.
They're pretty amazing.
You could put it in your carry-on, in a backpack, and it's bullet-resistant.
It weighs less than a pound.
And it's an option for parents, okay, to have to give them a little more peace of mind.
You know, when you talk about safety, there's multitude.
It's multifaceted of the things you need to look at.
And this is just one thing.
And you know what?
This is great.
You're putting this up, but I like to help young parents too.
And I know you have such a young audience of up-and-coming families and they watch you.
So, you know, my number one solution for young adults growing up now is make enough money to send your children to private school.
That's what I tell them first.
Anytime someone asked me, I said, you never hear about any of this stuff that goes on in this country going on in a private school.
Because number one is they take your child's safety to the utmost, you know, the utmost.
You know, they put that at the top of the tier, your child's safety.
That's number one.
Number two is public schools have to take everybody.
You know, they have to take, like in my daughter's instance, he threatened to kill people.
He wanted to rape people.
He was cutting animals up.
They had to frisk my daughter's killer every day before he went into school.
And this is a public school.
So number one is marry someone or make enough money to send your children to private school.
Number two is: okay, if you do have a child and you have no choice to send them to public school, you have to get involved with your local elections.
Okay.
Who runs the school board is very important, Charlie.
That's where the cancer starts in this country that goes all the way up to Washington.
We call it the swamp.
The swamp starts locally in the school board.
Okay.
Parents, you have the power to make a difference locally and put like-minded people into these school boards that are going to take security seriously.
You know, they didn't do it in Avaldi after so many shootings.
You know, the side door was open.
This classroom door was open.
No police officer at the school.
Okay.
It's 2022.
Okay, parents or all your listeners, do not send your child to a school that doesn't have at least one police officer or security guard or trained personnel with a firearm per 500 students.
We changed the law in Florida.
We have one armed security guard or guardian or police officer per 500 students.
Okay, you wouldn't go to the airport.
You don't go to a sporting event without security.
None of the congresspeople, when they go places, they all have security teams.
The Hollywood people, they have security teams.
Do not leave our kids unprotected.
Another tip for parents is you could go after you drop your child off at the school, take a ride, go back to that school and see if you could get in.
Just because there's a single point of entry, if they have it, principals need to reinforce with the children and the faculty not to open a door.
Go to one of the side doors, knock on it, see if they'll let you in.
Local Police vs Federal Trust 00:11:56
Okay?
That's what that's, I'd love to give these tips to parents to help them.
That's amazing insight and wisdom.
And thank you.
The website is burna by RNA.com slash school safety.
I was just flipping through it actually right here.
It's a great website.
It's right there, all about school safety.
You guys could check it out.
And Andrew, thank you for your leadership.
And I know a lot of parents learned a lot through that.
So thank you, Andrew.
Really appreciate it.
Thanks, Charlie.

With us is the Attorney General of Texas with, I think, the largest Attorney General's office in the country.
Maybe California is close to it or New York, but he does a great job and he just survived.
In fact, he thrived past a highly contested primary against, I believe, a member of the Bush family.
Ken Paxton is with us.
Ken, welcome back to the Charlie Kirk Show.
Hey, Charlie, good to be back.
It's been a little while, but I'm happy to be back, and I'm happy to be back after the primary is over.
Absolutely.
And congratulations.
Just tell us a little bit about that.
That was pretty high profile, a lot of money being spent, and you were victorious.
Tell us about that.
Yeah, so, I mean, basically, I just ran on my record, and he didn't really have much of a record to run on.
I think the voters of Texas figured it out.
It ended up being 68, 32.
So it was a pretty resounding win for us.
And it gives us a chance to continue to fight for freedom, not just for Texas, but really for the whole country.
Congratulations.
So I want to start with the shooting in Uvalde.
I have more questions than answers.
We do know there is this inexplicable hour-long gap.
The police have admitted that they made a mistake and they should have done things differently.
But now the local police are saying they're no longer going to be complying with a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation.
What's your take on this?
And what is your office going to do to get to the bottom of this?
So unfortunately, my office can only investigate any type of crime, whether it's law enforcement or whatever, if we're asked.
If DPS, if the state police asks us, otherwise it's on them to continue the investigation.
It is strange now that the police department Uvale, if that's accurate, that they don't want to talk to the state police and just bring it, as you said, the answers.
Yeah, and so that's interesting that the Attorney General's office isn't able to investigate it unless it's asked.
I suppose there's some people that are asking the question, is there a cover-up underway?
We know the story has changed a lot.
So what's your take generally as the Attorney General of Texas?
You know, you're going to be under a lot of pressure from left-wing activist groups to try and go after the Second Amendment.
What's your perspective as the chief law enforcement officer of the great state of Texas as it comes to hardening our schools and protecting our Second Amendment rights?
So I believe in both of those.
I think we should definitely harden our schools.
I think that teachers and administrators should be trained how to use a firearm.
We have a program.
We have two programs in Texas that were passed, I believe, in 2013 when I was in the Texas Senate called the Guardian Program.
And then we also have a Marshals program that involves even more training.
So I think if shooters knew there were people in those buildings with guns and they didn't know who they were, I think it would have an insurrent effect.
And if it didn't, then we'd at least have people trained to deal with the situation before law enforcement got there.
Because as we already noted, they didn't get there right away.
And then when they did, they didn't go in right away.
And we lost valuable time and lost valuable lives.
And I think that can be somewhat solved by just implementing the program that's already been passed.
Second Amendment, it's there.
It is our right to bear firearms.
Having laws, gun laws that supposedly protect us don't really protect us because this guy went in and violated all the murder laws.
And for some reason, people think, well, he would have followed the gun law if there had been a gun law.
That doesn't make any sense and won't work.
All that does is take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.
So here's where I'm a little bit confused, though.
And, you know, I obviously have to be careful in the way you have to answer this.
But what is a senator from Texas doing negotiating gun control with the Democrats?
That doesn't seem to be consistent with where the voters of Texas are.
You know, Senator John Cornyn who's doing that.
What on earth is going on here?
Look, I don't have a good answer for that.
I don't know if he's just been up there too long and he's bought into the swamp politics.
Sports on hearing that he's negotiating some type of limitations on lawful citizens having the ability to have arms.
And if he's doing that, I'm not in favor of it.
I don't think most Texas are in favor of it.
And I'm not afraid to say he's wrong if that's what he's doing.
Yeah, I just, it's just such a misrepresentation of kind of what the voters of Texas want.
I mean, there's this story in the Federalists that there is no bipartisan gun compromise in the works, just GOP capitulation.
And of all the people to kind of lead negotiations, it's Senator John Cornyn from Texas, who's focusing on two new gun control proposals, including red flag laws.
And so, you know, we've talked about red flag laws here on this program and how they might have good intentions, but it also could create situations where people are misdiagnosed or misprofiled.
And you know this, Ken.
We've talked about it on this program.
For example, moms and dads are categorized as domestic terrorists by our federal government.
Does that mean they can no longer own a firearm?
Can you talk about how some of these gun control policies that the federal government might try to pass might on a surface have some good intentions, but in reality might prohibit total peaceful, law-abiding, mentally stable Americans from being able to own firearms?
Yeah, so I think you're right about this.
I think red flag laws sound like reasonable ways to deal with this problem, but they're really not.
They create a dangerous sort of setup because then who decides whether you're a that you're a threat?
Is it the government?
Well, what if the government doesn't like you?
What if the government has uses pretenses to go take away your Second Amendment right?
Well, we're talking about constitutional rights.
Those were given to us not by the government, and they cannot be taken away by the government.
I don't care what good reason they have, unless it goes through the constitutional process of changing the Second Amendment.
We as Americans have that right, and I don't believe that we should have some government oversight deciding when we can have that firearm or when we shouldn't.
Yeah, and that's the most important point.
I mean, if we were at a place where we had trust in the federal government and their ability to compile lists and to kind of put forward threat assessment tags, I think a lot of us would not necessarily be on board for it, but I'd be more open-minded for it.
But, you know, they say, for example, you know, in their press conferences, we have to make sure certain people are not able to own firearms.
I totally agree with that conceptually.
Of course I do.
I mean, this scumbag in Uvalde, first of all, I don't know if you know anything.
I don't know how he was able to afford 2,000 rounds of ammunition and two $2,000 rifles.
That's a separate issue, though.
But the federal government now has a track record, especially with the moms and dads of domestic terrorists calling people that come in to take selfies in the Capitol Rotunda as, you know, trying to lock them up for the rest of their life.
You know, we can't, we don't trust the government to kind of compile these lists, and it's not out of the realm of the possibility that they would try to use that against us.
I do want to pivot, though.
What do we know about this individual purchasing the weapon and where he got it from?
Does that fall under your office's jurisdiction, or is that still Texas Department of Public Safety?
That is still local police and Texas state police.
It does not fall under our jurisdiction unless, again, we have law enforcement officers in our office that assist or we're asked often to participate in investigations.
If we're asked, we're ready to roll today if we're asked.
So far, that's been carried on by the local police and by state police.
That's fascinating to me.
So you have to be asked, but the FBI could just waltz in and do whatever they want.
Is that right?
Yeah, I mean, basically, the FBI couldn't come in here either unless the state police asked them.
My understanding is that to some limited extent, the FBI has been asked to participate, which I'm not sure that would have been my call, but that's what's happened.
Yeah, that's interesting because it seems as if the DOJ just made a preemptive investigation.
Like, we're just going to investigate this.
And so I suppose that's a really interesting state's rights kind of discussion for another time.
I want to play tape here of the new Biden White House press secretary, Jean Pierre, where she talks about hardening schools.
Let's listen to this together, play cut 28.
And so the problem is with guns and not having legislation to really deal with an issue that is a pandemic here in this country.
I know there's been conversation about hardening schools.
That is not something that he believes in.
You hear that?
It's a pandemic.
We're all going to have to get vaccines against guns and wear masks and stay at home.
They love that word.
She's against hardening schools.
What's your reaction to that?
Well, look, I'm not surprised because they typically, it seems like whatever is coming out of their office is not good for America.
I don't know how they cannot be for protecting these children and giving them a chance and doing that by hardening the schools.
I see no downside in that other than it costs money.
And since we're sending $40 billion to Ukraine, I don't know why we can't spend that money, similar money, protecting our most valuable asset, which is our children.
Yeah, amen.
In closing here, I just want to focus on the southern border where I wish we had $40 billion going there.
What is your office doing?
to continually to sue the Biden administration around Title 42 and the erosion of our sovereignty.
We have 11 lawsuits alone just related to the border.
The most recent one that went up to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Remain New Mexico asylum program, is really important to get reinstituted.
It's one of the primary pieces of legislation or statute that President Trump used to lower, continue to lower the number of people coming here illegally.
That decision should be coming soon, along with Title New gives us a chance at stemming some of the tide.
But the reality is they've opened the border up.
They're working with the cartels, and they want as many people here as possible, including the transportation of drugs, because they're freely allowing that to occur.
It's just unbelievable.
Border Openness and Drug Cartels 00:05:13
Congratulations on your victory.
It was up against a lot of establishment forces, but it was a resounding win and a runoff that never should have had to happen.
And it looks like you're going to be just great in November.
Attorney General Ken Paxton doing a wonderful job in the great state of Texas.
He's not going to give an inch to these gun grabbers or these anti-constitutional folks.
So congratulations again, and you're welcome anytime on the program.
Thank you.
Thank you, Charlie.
Have a great day.
You bet.
Talk to you soon.
Look, we all know that a war is being waged on reality, and the left is leading the charge.
Their radical gender ideology has seeped into children's classrooms, into medical terminology, and into our everyday life.
It's producing a generation of psychologically infantile and confused young people.
Not only that, but this radical ideology is trying to erase the people who brought us all into existence, women.
Now Matt Walsh of the Daily Wire is taking matters into his own hands.
He recently embarked on a journey around the world to ask one simple question, what is a woman?
And you'd be surprised not only how few people are capable of answering, but how many people have a completely twisted idea of what a woman is.
Thankfully, he got his whole experience on film.
It's the question you're not allowed to ask, the documentary they don't want you to see, what is a woman?
Would you get check out today at whatisawoman.com?
Look, Matt Walsh is terrific.
He's a great American patriot.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll scream, probably all at the same time.
Radical gender ideologies have a not-so-secret agenda.
They've told us themselves.
This film exposes it all, going behind the facade of love and tolerance to reveal the wickedness and greed that runs through it all.
What is a Woman is only available to watch for members of the Daily Wire, great organization.
So I highly recommend you join today.
Together, we can fight back against the lunatic agenda, and the Daily Wire is taking it head-on.
Now more than ever, we must support those who are preaching the one word that the world is missing, and that is sanity.
Check it out.
Matt Welsh, great American Patriot, whatisAwoman.com.

Thomas gave an interview on ABC News about why people transition to be one's authentic self.
Play cut three.
There's a lot of factors that go into a race and how well you do.
And the biggest change for me is that I'm happy.
Trans people don't transition for athletics.
We transition to be happy and authentic and our true selves.
Transitioning to get an advantage is not something that ever factors into our decisions.
You didn't transition to win more medals.
No.
Look, I don't want to be cruel, but you sound like a dude, man.
I mean, at least try to make your voice sound different.
Like, can you at least try the squeaky thing, like a higher-pitch octave?
Like, I'm not trying to be mean, but it's like, you're not selling it well at all.
Worst salesman ever.
It's just narcissistic.
It's all about you.
Of course it's about that.
It's all about what you want, what you feel is right, regardless of who you disenfranchise, regardless of who you cut in line.
What about the happiness and the well-being of the teammates?
And this is where society does come in.
And this is where the people say, oh, let people do whatever you want, live and let live.
No, you need guardrails so people could be actually free or else the strong dominate the weak.
Remember, we have a moral principle in the West that the strong must protect the weak and that standards must allow people to participate and compete within certain agreed-upon frameworks.
The one that has worked rather well is chromosomal structures.
Thomas goes on to say that it's just all about all about happiness.
Critics accused, this is a hilarious article from The Independent.
I don't have time to go through all of this.
Critics accuse trans swimming star Leah Thomas of having an unfair advantage.
The data tells a different story.
And it says, this is what's so funny.
So it says here in The Independent, it says, her swimming times are on pair with cis women.
You know who they compare her to?
Katie Ledecki, who is like the best female swimmer ever.
And without having to read this kind of pile of pharmaceutical-funded transgender propaganda, Thomas won the national title.
It proves the point that if you win the national title, then obviously you have an unfair advantage and you weren't able to win it against fellow men.
And they say, well, her time is on par with Katie Ledecki.
Yet they don't mention that Katie Ladecki is on pace to get more gold medals than Michael Phelps if she competes in one more Summer Olympics.
Thomas says, it's been a goal of mine to swim at the Olympic trials for a very long time.
I'd love to see that through.
Of course, you're a cheater.
You'd love to make everything about yourself.
At times, you must pick tough fights to tell people you're not allowed to do that.
You might be called bad names, but standards are what keep people free.
Otherwise, you live in chaos.
