| Now you have these GOP hardliners giving the new Speaker of the House, Johnson, 10 days to win them over on spending. | ||
| How do you see this playing out? | ||
| I think the hardliners are going to be very disappointed between now and February the 2nd, because what will happen is they're going to write the appropriations bills to the numbers that were agreed to in the law that Speaker Johnson voted for back with the debt ceiling. | ||
| They're going to have to write the bills to that number. | ||
| What they're doing in the House right now with these long-term spending bills, they're writing them to lower numbers that were not agreed to in the law. | ||
| No, everybody knows that's a joke. | ||
| It's a waste of time. | ||
| So when they negotiate with the Senate on these spending bills on January the 19th and then again on February 2nd, they're going to write them to the numbers in the laws. | ||
| The hardliners are going to hate that because they don't agree with those spending levels. | ||
| It's that simple. | ||
| So bottom line, there's no way he's going to be able to placate these GOP hardliners? | ||
| No, unless he wants to shut the government down, you know, indefinitely and have rolling shutdowns, you know, on January 19th and again on February 2nd. | ||
| So they're going to be very disappointed. | ||
| The Speaker did the right thing on the continuing resolution just to fund the government. | ||
| It was a short can kick. | ||
| But they still have to deal with these long-term spending bills at the numbers that they agreed to in the law. | ||

| We know things are always tense, but have you ever seen it like this? | ||
| This much intra-party tension amongst the GOP caucus? | ||
| I mean, you heard Melanie today say, hey, at least there wasn't a physical altercation today. | ||

| Well, look, I've seen some very tense moments. | ||
| This has been building up for some time. | ||
| When they're in session, as long as they are, for so many weeks on end, that capital turns into a pressure cooker, and they have to go home just to release the tension. | ||

| Well, they just took down an appropriations bill today. | ||
| Republicans, you know, when you're in the majority party, you're expected to vote for the rule to bring up the bill. | ||

| Republicans are killing the Speaker's ability to even consider the bill. | ||
| So I think at that point he just threw his hands up in the air and said, we've got to get him out of town because this is an enormous problem. | ||
| By the way, I should mention, too, on the ethics side, I was chair of the Ethics Committee. | ||
| It's highly unusual. | ||
| for the ethics committee to kind of give more or less an update on an investigation. | ||
| They almost never do that. I mean, I was chair, we only ever release statements when we were about to announce a sanction. So then what do you make of it? The fact they did? Well, I think they're under tremendous pressure to show that they're making progress on this Santos matter because of the expulsion resolution that was offered last week. And they wanted to show that they were actually making progress doing a real investigation. One thing I want my Republican colleagues to give me | ||

| These so-called insurrectionists got to the Senate floor of the nation's capital and took selfies, walked through velvet ropes, followed police direction, and didn't burn down the damn place. | ||
| These, unlike BLM and Hamas supporters who actually burn down things, What happened on January 6th was a peaceful protest, a lawful protest, permitted by the National Park Service, that got out of hand, and a small number of those protesters, they trespassed and it turned into a riot. | ||

| If it were an insurrection, you would see Jack Smith, who has spent tens of millions of dollars at the Biden Justice Department, they've spent tens of millions of dollars with the January 6th Committee, they would have charged him with insurrection. | ||
| They would have charged Trump with insurrection. | ||
| They're not charging him with insurrection because the evidence doesn't exist. | ||
| And that is the only way you can disqualify a candidate, disqualify someone in America from holding office under the 14th Amendment. | ||
| It is a criminal charge, a federal criminal statute passed to implement the Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. | ||
| It's a federal criminal statute on insurrection or rebellion. | ||
| You get a federal prosecutor to charge, a federal jury to find The defendant guilty unanimously with evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that district court judge convicts and then it's upheld on appeal. | ||
