Shoot-'em-up video games were created in the 1960s during the Vietnam War to train soldiers who would not shoot people up close.

Shoot-'em-up games were created in the 60s during Vietnam because a lot of the soldiers wouldn't shoot somebody up close. That sounds wrong. So they would have simulated targets and things that popped up, and then they moved.
