Okay, so just so everybody appreciates, we have now, the Viva family, delved into monarch butterfly cultivation because the Home Depot sells these milkweed plants.
I don't know who's buying milkweed.
They're all...
Not infested, but they have the caterpillars on them that are the monarch butterflies.
You can't really see it when you buy them.
We bought the Home Depot stock, put them in the backyard.
The caterpillars eat until they're fat little bastards, then they go into their J-motion, then they go into their chrysalis, and then they hatch as butterflies.
I did not know this.
The whole thing is flipping amazing.
I posted the video.
You've all seen it.
I've noticed we had three that didn't hatch from the chrysalis properly.
I was doing not a time lapse.
I was doing a video of one today.
Ordinarily, they come out and they spread their wings within 30 minutes.
This one was taking like 45 minutes, 50 minutes, an hour, an hour and a half later.
It wasn't coming out of the chrysalis.
And when it finally, you know, we tried to help it, it had missed the opportunity.
The wings didn't inflate.
And what I understand happens is that the little fat torso of the butterfly.
It injects, like it squeezes fluid into the wings and that inflates them.
If you've seen the video, it's amazing you can see it happen.
So if it misses that window of opportunity, the wings don't inflate, it doesn't fly.
Apparently 20 to 40% of chrysalises don't successfully turn into a butterfly and we're batting it about...
28%, which is right within that realm.
This dude, we kept for two days, thought it might eat on its own.
We could have it as a cute butterfly.
It didn't make it.
And so I fed it to a lizard.
I discovered this because we had a big-ass palmetto bug in our house, and I said, oh, it's like half-dead.
We'll go put it outside.
And I saw a lizard.
I just chucked it in the general direction.
Lizard, bam, came right over and ate it.

The lizard's there.
I just chuck it on the grass.
