Tate Speech - Andrew Tate - Tate on Fighting Aired: 2022-07-02 Duration: 05:11 === Why Fighting Isn't Just About Technique (05:08) === [00:00:03] A lot of people ask me fighting questions. [00:00:05] And fair enough, I don't fight anymore. [00:00:07] I did retire from fight sports very young. [00:00:08] I'm 31 years of age. [00:00:11] I started kickboxing when I was 17. [00:00:12] I was world champion at 23. [00:00:14] I became four times world champion. [00:00:16] I retired from fighting at 28. [00:00:18] I then came back to the ring and I got a really bad poke in the eye, which is a very annoying way to end a career at the age of 30. [00:00:29] So it should've been no contest. [00:00:30] They're saying I lost. [00:00:31] Whatever, whatever. [00:00:32] And I'm still considering fighting again. [00:00:34] So people ask me a lot of fight questions. [00:00:35] I was an exceptionally good fighter. [00:00:37] ♪♪ Good shot there from Tate! [00:00:52] Fighting is a very difficult thing to learn because you have to reprogram your basic instincts. [00:00:57] The human instinct to how to fight is incorrect. [00:01:00] You lift your head up and you swing with your hands down to get power, and everything you do instinctually is completely wrong. [00:01:06] So it's very difficult to reprogram your instincts on something, especially in fighting, because fighting happens very quickly. [00:01:11] It's very savage. [00:01:12] It's very fast. [00:01:13] But when people do say to me, how do I learn to fight? [00:01:16] I say, well, a few things. [00:01:19] One, you don't just learn to fight. [00:01:20] It's not like... I don't care. [00:01:23] It's not learning how to fucking flip a coin. [00:01:25] It's something you have to train constantly. [00:01:27] And the second you stop training, your reactions slow down X amount. [00:01:30] Secondly, to be able to fight effectively, you also have to be strong. [00:01:32] You also have to be fit. [00:01:33] There's a whole bunch of other things you have to do. [00:01:35] Getting strong and fit, fine. [00:01:37] To be a fighter, you have to get strong and fit, plus learn a bunch of shit. [00:01:40] So it's not easy. [00:01:42] But people often say, well, what martial arts should I learn? [00:01:46] Wanna learn to fight? [00:01:48] Be a boxer. [00:01:49] This is coming from a kickboxer. [00:01:51] I'm a kickboxer. [00:01:52] And even I know that as amazing as my kicks are, they're pretty much useless in most cases of the street. [00:01:58] I mean, in a club, I can't really kick. [00:02:00] If I have jeans on, I can't really kick. [00:02:02] If I slip on grass, it's a big, big mistake. [00:02:05] I probably wouldn't kick in a street fight. [00:02:07] It's happened one or two times to the groin. [00:02:09] But in general, I don't kick. [00:02:11] I use my hands and I win effectively. [00:02:13] Boxing is the best for this reason. [00:02:15] People always come at me with, what about wrestling or BJJ? [00:02:18] Newsflash, BJJ is fucking useless outside of the cage. [00:02:23] And when I say this, a whole bunch of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu players get triggered. [00:02:27] They start going, oh, you've never messed with a BJJ guy. [00:02:30] Actually, wrong. [00:02:31] If you look at my career, I've been in the cage six times. [00:02:33] I broke my hand in two of those fights, that's why I stopped cage fighting and continued with kickboxing. [00:02:37] I fought Luke Barna, who's in the UFC. [00:02:39] I've won by knockout many times in the cage. [00:02:42] So I understand Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I fought against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu professionally. [00:02:47] But I'm telling you, for the street, for self-defense, do not waste your time with BJJ or wrestling. [00:02:52] And here's why. [00:02:54] The number one rule of the street is do not go to the ground. [00:02:58] You don't know if your opponent has a weapon, like a knife. [00:03:01] You don't know if he has a friend who's going to come along and kick you in the face. [00:03:04] You don't know if police are going to turn up. [00:03:06] You don't know if all of his friends are going to be running around the corner. [00:03:09] You need to be on your feet at all times, ready to run to preserve your life. [00:03:14] Rolling around on the floor with some guy is not a good idea. [00:03:19] For the reasons I've named, plus more. [00:03:22] Secondly, a lot of these BJJ moves are ineffective against the rules of the street. [00:03:26] Yeah, a triangle choke works in the cage, but it ain't gonna work if someone can bite the fucking balls off, and an armbar ain't gonna work if they're taking a chunk out of your fucking skin, and these other things aren't gonna work if they pick up a rock and smash you around the head with it. [00:03:37] You try and triangle choke a dude when he can pick you up and slam you on concrete, not an octagon. [00:03:42] When he body slams your head on concrete, you tell me how you're gonna get away with that triangle choke without taking damage yourself. [00:03:47] It's bullshit. [00:03:48] All of it's ineffective on the street. [00:03:50] And the most important thing, and this is the most crazy thing of it all, when's the last time you've ever seen a fair fight on the street? [00:03:56] Ever. [00:03:57] I've been in my fair share of street fights. [00:03:59] I live in Eastern Europe. [00:03:59] I live in a dangerous place. [00:04:00] I've been to 60 countries. [00:04:02] I'm telling you, I've never seen a fair fight. [00:04:04] Every time I was in a fight, I was against multiple opponents. [00:04:07] As a striker, as a combatant who can strike, I can deal with multiple opponents. [00:04:11] Let me tell you something. [00:04:12] You can get the best BJJ player in the world. [00:04:15] If he's fighting two guys, he's going to lose. [00:04:18] Because as soon as he tries to grab one up, the other guy is going to jump on his fucking face. [00:04:21] So who cares how good you are at fucking this kind of choke, that kind of choke. [00:04:25] You're going to get fucking grounded and pounded or head stomped and beaten up. [00:04:29] Rules of Street Fights. [00:04:31] Stay on your feet, use your hands, and be ready to go from attacking to running from your life at the drop of a hat. [00:04:38] This is the advice I give you. [00:04:39] You want to learn to fight in the street? [00:04:41] Box. [00:04:42] Do not fuck around with BJJ or wrestling because let me tell you something, it's a waste of fucking time. [00:04:46] Anyone who thinks I'm wrong, I'll challenge you to the following. [00:04:50] You and one of your friends come along and try and fight me. [00:04:54] And I'll just use what I know, and we'll see how the fight goes down. [00:04:57] I'm guaranteeing you, you're going to take some shots. [00:04:59] I might take some shots, I don't know who you are. [00:05:01] But either way, I'll be on my feet, I'll be moving, you're going to get hit in the face. [00:05:05] Any BJJ guy in the world, no matter how good you are, you come and fight me and my brother at the same time.
