The streaming network doesn't want to have anything to do with them.
So, guess what?
They're spinning them off.
Comcast is like, bye bye, see ya.
Oh, Oprah would be included in that crowd, too.
This is going to be quite a deal.
We're going to get all into that, plus what it means for ABC, what it means for Disney in terms of spinning off ABC News, and of course, The View, which I predicted as well.

Right, time now for a look at some of the other stories making headlines this morning.
Comcast, which owns our parent company, NBC Universal, plans to spin off its cable TV networks.
That's according to the Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the situation.
The company.
Will separate off entertainment and news channels, including MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Oxygen, E, Sci Fi, and the Golf Channel.
So it's spinning off.
The new cable venture will reportedly have an ownership structure that mirrors Comcast's.
Comcast spokesperson declined to comment.
So, Willie, as you look at the screen right there, the big concern that stockholders right now on Wall Street are wondering about before they decide what to do with Comcast shares.
Is whether Mika is going to have to give up her penthouse perch atop the Comcast building.
Since I never had it.
When are we going to get invited to the penthouse?
Never.
They never let us know.
I will say, really quickly on this, you know, drugs at the top said, oh, news meltdown, all this other stuff.
I mean, I could be completely wrong.
We could all be fired a year from now when this happens.
You never know what's going to happen.
Or tomorrow.
Yeah, but in this case, though, Willie, what they're doing is what other media firms are doing.
You spin off the cable channels, which seven years ago were making a ton of money.
Now they've got to figure out.
I just have to say something.
He's totally wrong.
Nobody's done it before.
This is the first network to actually do it.
They're talking about it over at Disney.
We've talked about how that eventually is going to happen at Disney.
But he's trying to spin this as though it's normal.
It's not normal.
It will become normal.
But you guys have the distinction and the honor of being the very first cable network.
It's going to get spun off away from the parent company because you know what?
They don't want to have anything to do with it.
They don't even want to be near you.
They don't want to deal with it.
Somebody else's problem.
How to make them profitable.
Disney, which, by the way, huge media news Disney has figured out now how to make streaming profitable.
Peacock had an extraordinary success in the Olympics.
So they're talking about spinning this off.
Comcast still owns, I think Brian Roberts still owns a third of that.
And because Comcast didn't jump into the bidding war like everybody else, Throwing stupid money at streaming services and then watch it flop.
Comcast has a ton of cash.
So now they spend this off and they're in a position to, what do you all say?
This is getting interesting.
To get a lot of different.
Consolidate.
Consolidate, but also to just ramp up.
And so you get a lot of people, a lot of different channels together.
And so whatever that entity is going to be, it'll probably be.
Let me tell you.
They're not ramping up your entity, buddy.
Not at all.
This is what you call winding down, getting the parent company away from the stink of all of you over at MSNBC.
Mika and Joe, I'm looking at you.
A lot of cable channels, and they'll be in a much better position to scale it.
I didn't, I took one business class at University of Michigan.
You didn't bail out that.
You're pretty clueless, Joe.
Okay, so here's the deal.
MSNBC is spinning off its cable outlets specifically because of MSNBC.
It wants to be as far away from that company as it possibly can be.
Those companies don't make much money anymore.
Yeah, back in the day, 2011, when Comcast came in and bought it, they saw that as the future.
They saw that as a cash cow.
Well, probably CNBC is the cash cow.
And now they're realizing very quickly that there's too much liability associated with the likes of Mika and Joe and Joy Reid.
Rachel Maddow was smart.
She got out.
She's just down to one day a week collecting some ridiculous sum.
That won't continue.
The new owners will say, bye-bye, Rachel.
Keep doing your little podcast over there.
We don't need this headache.
We don't need to pay this much money.

In fact, it should have been over a long, long time ago.
I think we all know that.
As for Joe and Mika, now what's interesting with these two is Joe is very savvy politically.
I mean, did you notice the day after the election how he suddenly showed up in a suit and tie and started talking about how he was this southern white male conservative?
Like he's, you know, making a run for Tucker spot or something?
Totally, totally different persona.
All of a sudden he's like, oh yeah, you know, it wasn't really good how far out on the woke curve everybody got.

Just exactly who are you?
Well, he knew because on October 31st, the company announced its earnings and Comcast and NBC said, it's very possible that we will look to spin off.
These cable entities, including Oprah's network, including MSNBC CNBC, etc.
One, because the business is just dead right like these, are not businesses that you want to be in.
So Joe can like talk it up as much as he wants.
He's trying to put on a good face.
He's like you know, it would be great.
I don't really know much but business, but hey, if we're streamlined, you know maybe, maybe we can actually be more profitable, etc.
No, what they're going to do is they're going to bleed you for all their cash.
They're going to focus on their streaming business, which is making money that doesn't have the stink around it that you guys have Single handedly, I mean, with the help of Joy and Rachel and a few others, but you've really managed to do some damage.
And I realize you're hat in hand down there in Mar-a-Lago trying to make good with the former president and soon to be president again.
But listen, no one, no one has forgotten this.
Here's Joe Scarborough just weeks ahead of the election, acting like this was completely do or die.
What was do or die for him?
For Mika?
For everybody else over at MSNBC, not do or die for the nation the way he ranted.
You can't meet if they, listen, if they voted for Trump in 16, whatever.
They voted for Trump in 20, they knew exactly what they were doing.
If they vote for Donald Trump in 2024, and I've said it on my show, I'll say it here, they're knowingly voting for a fascist.
They're voting for a racist.
They're voting for somebody that wants to put this country 200 years in the back.
And so, I'm not trying to figure them out.
I'm trying to figure out how we get people out who love democracy, who love freedom, who love the rights of all Americans, how to get them to the voting booth.
Because that's how we save our country.
Wow.
Okay, so really, and yet, days later, you're on set saying, well, we kind of screwed up because we didn't understand this woke thing.
And then you go begging Donald Trump.
To have some kind of line of communication as though he's, I don't know, North Korea.
Joe and I went to Mar a Lago to meet personally with President elect Trump.
It was the first time we have seen him in seven years.
Get it, right?
They're like, oh my gosh, our company's going to spin off and no one's going to want to pay our salaries.

Like the joke about Mika's penthouse that Joe made, that wasn't entirely a joke.

Brian Roberts just doesn't want it to be him.
So again, the story breaking that Comcast is going forward with its $7 billion spinoff.
I don't know if they're even going to get $7 billion for this company, I'll tell you.
Nobody wants to touch it.
It's like a freaking hot potato.

They are interestingly keeping, it seems, Telemundo, the local TV stations, the broadcast network, and Bravo.

Or perhaps, actually, forgive me that, maybe E.
But the Housewife series apparently is a hit.
And they want to keep the hits and get rid of oxygen, get rid of MSNBC, get rid of E, and get rid of sci-fi.
And Joe thinks that this is a good thing.
You know, somehow they'll be able to streamline the company and all will be better.
Except it won't.
It won't, right?

I mean, you saw the other day how they admitted that they went down, of course, to Mar a Lago.
This was after having said just the day before that if you voted for Trump, you were effectively a Nazi.
And then he says that the news network that is most critical of him should be taken off the air.
This is not a reach.
I could go back and talk about Nazi Germany and I'd do it without any concerns whatsoever.
And if people can't start drawing the parallels, Well, you're just stupid, or you have your head in the sand, or you're one of them.
Over the past week, Joe and I have heard from so many people, from political leaders to regular citizens, deeply dismayed by several of President elect Trump's cabinet selections, and they are scared.
Last Thursday, we expressed our own concerns on this broadcast and even said we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the president elect himself.
On Friday, we were given the opportunity to do just that.
Joe and I went to Mar a Lago to meet personally with President elect Trump.
It was the first time we have seen him in seven years.
Now, we talked about a lot of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents, and media outlets.
We talked about that a good bit.
And it's going to come as the last one.
Because you see, they're terrified that somehow they'll be held accountable for all the misinformation that they've put forward.
And it's been misinformation.
I'm sorry, but when the New York Times tries to tell you that wages are going up and they don't bother to report real wages, which are adjusted for inflation, and they try and present that as fact, and then they go on MSNBC there, and Mika and Joe are trying to say, oh, yeah, you know, this is all in your head.
The economy is doing great, and wages are doing great.
It's like, no, they're not doing great because, you know what, we have that much inflation.
So even if your wages go up 4% or 5%, it doesn't counter the fact that you have a 30% increase in gas prices or 22% increase in food prices.
So there's been plenty of misinformation and there's been dark misinformation.
For example, the Nazi, the World War II comparisons, that's pretty scary stuff.
And then they wake up and they realize none of it mattered.
Absolutely none of it mattered because guess what?
Nobody is watching MSNBC other than maybe in bits and pieces, for example, on this show, right?

Just yesterday on set, as probably word was circulating that they were doomed, they were getting spun off, and the parent wants nothing to do with them.

New research shows one in five adults regularly get their news from influencers on social media.
The number is even higher among younger Americans, with almost 40% under the age of 30 getting their news from those sources.
According to the Pew Research Center, the social media site X remains the most widely accessed platform, followed by Instagram and YouTube.

I mean, that comes obviously for political news.
And Mike, that's the challenge.
You grew up in a newsroom like Gene grew up in a newsroom.
I mean, that's a lot of challenge.
That's a challenge for a lot of mainstream media sources is do they make themselves relevant again to hear 20% of adults who actually get influencers on social media?
I don't know.
Maybe somebody who makes baskets.
You know what?
People that they actually trust, people that don't have their hand out constantly.
I mean, you saw Reverend Sharpton, right, on that set.
And you saw him as Joe Scarborough was just going on a rampage there saying you can't vote for Trump.
Reportedly, Al Sharpton got $500,000 from the Kamala campaign for his organization just days before he interviewed her for CNBC.
That's a little disturbing.
Reportedly, Oprah Winfrey got not $1 million, but $2.5 million for interviewing Kamala Harris for her program.
Oprah Winfrey, of course, having the Oxygen Network, another.
Comcast property.
So you're looking at this and saying, well, why would anybody believe you guys?
You're just so damn selfish and self-interested.
And then because you realize, guess what?
America's not with you.
And you finally wake up and smell the coffee.
You go down to Mar-a-Lago.
And guess what?
Your viewers, the few that you had, hate you even more.
Take a look at this.
Ratings just in from that show where they volunteered.
They went down to Mar-a-Lago.
And we see that there was a nosedive.
Literally, people were sitting at home.
Turned them off, because the only audience they've courted is this audience that's filled with rage and hate that basically they have inspired.
And so then, when you find out they're actually willing to court the enemy, maybe you don't think so much about it.
Maybe you don't think so much about them, maybe you actually think I've been duped, I've been fooled.
These people are nothing but a bunch of phonies and guess what?
You would be right, ladies and gentlemen, phony they are.
Take a look at these numbers, they Dove.
Nielsen ratings show 145,000 viewers turned off MSNBC in the 7 a.m. hour just as Mika Brzezinski said, guess what?
We went to Mar-a-Lago.
Ha ha ha ha!
You know, typically in morning television, the first hour is the toughest, and then you build and you build and you build, and then you hand off for the day side a nice big fat number.
That's not what happened.
38% of the audience in the key 25 to 54 age demographic, which is pretty big.
As a you know, it's a big deal, it's what they sell in cable TV for advertisers.
They all tuned out, and apparently, they hobbled together a few more viewers before they left the air at 9 a.m.
But it's not good, it's not good because everyone now knows the phonies that they are.
And so do the bosses.
The bosses know not only are they phonies, they're liabilities.
Donald Trump promising to sue for billions.
MSNBC is part of that club, right?
But if it's not the lawsuits, it's the threat of the FCC, which no longer cares about such stupid stuff like their number two priority.
Brendan Carr tweeted this out.
He's getting rid of this.
Number two priority at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' FCC is to have diversity, equity, inclusion represented on television all the time.
I'm sorry.
Like, is this why Joy Reid has a job?
Is this a DEI mandate?
Because she's not very good.
She's not very smart.

This is a woman who's actually trying to encourage people not to meet with their relatives on Thanksgiving if they dare to vote for Trump.

They reported Kamala Harris burned through one and a half billion dollars in 15 weeks.

In fact, it actually cost somewhere in the vicinity, according to the New York Times, $2.5 million.
Kamala Harris paid $2.5 million to have. a YouTube interview with Oprah Winfrey, which honestly, guys, like, I mean, we just started it a year and a half ago, but I'm not running for president or anything.
We do better in many of our shows than that thing did on Oprah Winfrey's channel.
I mean, that was one giant waste of money.
And then Oprah still won't admit to any of this.
This is according to sources from the New York Times, okay?
And then, you know, the Washington Examiner went through all the F. FEC election records and found the one million.
They're saying it's actually much worse, it's two and a half million.

Remember, Joe Biden did an interview with her, and apparently they gave her some sample questions, which she then used, and then she went on CNN and volunteered.

First of all, no one gives you the questions, okay?
Like, that's like journalism 101.
No one gives you the questions.
I mean, it should never even be questioned that you're going to get paid by a presidential candidate.

I mean, that is unbelievable.

So you wonder why people are like over it.

These people are not journalists.
They're people masquerading as journalists.

And I think there's a distinction.
And I think everybody has an opinion, frankly.
I don't really think you can be a journalist without having some kind of opinion.
That's part of what we're doing here, soul searching to figure out what we think on issues so that we can best communicate them to you.
But we're going to tell you the truth here.
This is just really despicable, disgusting.
I mean, Kamala Harris herself was pretty gross in how they spent all this money, $1.5 billion, ladies and gentlemen, in 15 weeks' time.
They spent $2.5 million on three digital agencies because they wanted online influencers.
You know, I somehow got signed up with some digital agency, which I don't use.
But I see some of the traffic that comes my way, and I can tell you they were paying for people to do commercial spots.
And I was like, this is weird.
And they were bad, right?
Like they were badly, badly done because they wanted you to say this and they wanted you to say that and you had to make sure you had the tag for Comel in the end and I I just got a kick out of it.
I I might have it somewhere in my files.
I know I took photos because I thought this might be some interesting intel for everybody to understand, but the point being that this is what they were doing okay, so it was bought and paid for, and everybody knows that these people are bought and paid for and everybody's over it and guess what, somebody else can pay those big salaries.
NBC shareholders don't want to anymore.
So, Mika and Joe, we wish you luck.

So, what, again, what's transformative here, and what is the work that is going to take another perhaps two years or even more, even after you do leave, that needs to get done?
Well, the transformative work, of course, is making sure that our cost structure.
Reflects the economic realities of the business, and that includes disruption.
Transformative work is dealing with businesses.
Boom, disruption.
You heard that.
There are no growth businesses, and what to do about them.
Boom, no growth businesses.
What do you do about those cable networks?
What do you do about the view?
Particularly the linear business, which we are expansive in our thinking about, and we're going to look expansively about opportunities there because.
Expansive in our thinking.
Translation.
We want to get rid of these.
We want to sever ties with them as soon as humanly possible.
Somehow, Comcast just beat us to it.
Really, it's a business that is going to continue to struggle.
Well, let's stop there for a second then and just let me ask you about it.
We're talking, I guess, ABC, the network, the stations, but then the cable networks as well.
Yes, correct.
FX, Nat Geo.
Is it possible you would look to sell them?
We're going to be expensive.
I think if you can interpret what that word means, we're just getting at that work.
But we have to be open-minded and objective about the future of those businesses.

Meaning that we're not poor.
The CEO of Disney saying we're going to be expansive in our thinking.
You can interpret that however you want.
But basically, reality is this.
They want to ditch ABC and all those cable networks as fast as they can over at Disney because they've also, like Comcast, figured out this is not a very good business to be in.
And guess what?
It's going to be even harder with the new FCC chair.
Have you noticed how quiet Whoopi Goldberg has been on the set?
Have you noticed how Disney's little Snow White ingenue came forward with a mouth?

Rachel Zegler, who coined the weird, weird thing that then somehow the Kamala campaign and Timmy Waltz just embraced.

Because it was that serious.
Disney was considering firing her, firing her because she just, right after the election, with her series of F-bombs, lovely Snow White, lovely.
Said that there should be no peace ever for Trump supporters.
I mean, these people are like trying to come on, like they want a civil war or something.

Here we go.
There's obviously a lot of soul searching right now going on within the Democratic Party, and that's a good thing.
But what I worry about is that in the course of all that soul searching, some Democrats might reach the wrong sweeping conclusions.
And there are a lot of issues that fall into that bucket.
But one in particular that stuck out to me is transgender rights.
Republicans spent hundreds of millions of dollars on anti trans ads this election cycle, including one that showed Vice President Harris talking about government funding for gender reaffirming care for prisoners and detainees.
If that sounds like a particularly obscure issue, it is, because it applies to a tiny group of people.
And it's also a policy that, by the way, was in place during the first Trump presidency.
Another one of the lines that ran over and over again in those ads and throughout right wing media is this idea that.
America is faced with a crisis of boys playing in girls' sports.
Now, these ads created this perception that the issues of trans kids playing sports was dominating schools across the country, which is completely false.
Some people got pulled into that argument.
I mean, immediately after the election, Congressman Seth Moulton told the New York Times that, quote, Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face.
I have two little girls.
I don't want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete.
But as a Democrat, I'm supposed to be afraid to say that.
And then last weekend, Congressman Moulton came on this network to discuss those comments.
I was just speaking authentically as a dad about one of many issues where I think we're just out of touch with the majority of voters.
And I stand by my position.
You know, maybe I didn't get all the words exactly right.
But the point is that the backlash I've received proves my point that we can't even have these discussions as a party.
Look, reflection is good.
But if that were actually an issue at thousands of schools across the country, it would be worthy of a debate.
But there are just incredibly few examples of transgender girls playing in youth sports.
And when we see those examples, there isn't evidence that these kids are a threat to safety or fairness.
Okay, so that's Jen Psaki, perhaps trying to continue this movement on in her misinformed way.
And she's just so flat out wrong.
I mean, number one, right?
Let's just be honest, okay?
Male athletes typically are better than female athletes.
Like, you can be.
The bottom of the bottom as a male athlete and like skyrocket to the top if you're competing against women, because well, you know what like?
I hate to go back to bio 101, but I will guess what.
Those guys have testosterone that the girls don't have and aren't allowed to take supplements for right.
So all that testosterone leads to better muscle development, which does tend to lead to being better for the most part at sports.
I had a friend like who said, my kids are rowers and she was like talking about her son, she's like, oh, he's doing so great.
You know, I don't understand why he's not moving up.
He beats all the girls, I'm like, but of course it beats the girls.
Like, I'm sorry.
Like, this is just what it is.
All right.
So let's start with the premise that typically, most often, boy athletes, naturally born men, tend to be physically better than naturally born female.
On top of that, she's like, oh, well, we don't have to care about this because it's so rare.
It's, first of all, all it takes is one naturally born male to win the trophy and therefore take it away from the naturally born female.
Okay.
All it takes is one.
They just had an incident up in New Hampshire, my home state, where this is going on.
We're hearing about these things popping up every single week.
So it just takes one.
So so what?
It's rare.
You know what?
That doesn't change the fact that it's not fair to that little girl who should have gotten the trophy or teenage girl or college girl.
And you know what else?
There's a lot of things that are not abundant.
Thank God, murder, for example, right?
Murder tends to be rare.
But do we sit there and say, well, because it's so rare, we're not going to actually do anything about it?
No.
We do something because in the spirit of fairness, in the spirit of what is right, you have to do something as a society.

If I'm Target, If I'm Target, maybe I don't come out with my whole line of Tucket swimsuits that I put on, you know, in the front of the store for all the moms to see because, you know, America's just not there.
That's going to result in bad stuff for Target, which is exactly what happened.
Target's shares tumbled, ladies and gentlemen, on their earnings miss.
They had sluggish demand, but you know what?
You can't blame it on the economy this time.
You just can't because guess who did great?
Walmart.
This is like the tale of two retailers.
You got earnings that Absolutely stunk at Target.
Shares are off like some 20% in trading today because guess what?
They're not increasing the way, say, Walmart is increasing.
And I'm going to go back to you know, there's a lot of flaws with the company.
I know they screwed up their inventory.
I know that they were doing the buy one, get one free things, which weren't typically what they traditionally had done.
We talked to Jerry Storch about a year ago.
He's the former vice chairman of the company and he had a litany of things that he was really worried about outside of what they were doing with the Tuckett swimsuits.
But I mean, I don't think they can ever live that down.
