Time Text
Welcome to the Political Cesspool, known worldwide as the South's foremost populous radio program.
And here to guide you through the murky waters of the political cesspool is your host, James Edwards.
I go there whatever man may say.
I sing his head up.
I hear his voice of cheer.
And just the time I believe, he's always here.
We visit.
Jesus is what Jesus lives today.
He walks with me and talks with me.
I'm all the time away.
We visit.
Jesus is salvation to the poor.
To us, I know he lives.
He lives with me by God.
Welcome back, everybody, to the third and final hour of the Political Cesspool.
Very special tribute to the life and times of Bill Rowland, a celebration of the man that Bill Rowland was.
And let me tell you, your host, James Edwards, here, there is someone working behind the scenes tonight that deserves an awful lot of credit.
This was a very important show to me.
When I was at the funeral on Friday, many of Bill's family, his brother, his mother, his wife, said they would be tuning in tonight.
So I wanted it to be perfect for Bill.
And as far as I'm concerned thus far, it has been flawless.
The owner of Liberty News Radio himself, Sam Bushman, has been producing tonight's show.
And it's been a big one with a lot of music, a lot of people coming and going.
And Sam has, well, listen, it's been a fitting tribute thus far, thanks to the direction behind the scenes.
And Sam Bushman is with us right now.
Sam, welcome to the special tribute show of our friend.
Hi, James.
I consider this special tribute, as you mentioned, as a celebration, a celebration of Bill's life, who he was on earth, but more importantly, who he is.
And I think the reason we can celebrate Bill's life instead of mourn his life is because we're Christians, because we believe in Christ.
In Christ, all are made alive.
And I want to make that point very clear for the benefit of his family, the benefit of those listening, that we are convinced that Bill is alive today, alive in Christ.
And that's something to celebrate, his life on earth and what he contributed to our lives and to the world at large, what he gave, not what he could take.
But more importantly, what he's doing now.
And I'm just here to testify that he lives and that one day his family will be able to be reunited with him.
And that's something to look forward to, sir.
Sam, it is, and very well put, my friend.
And of course, Liberty News Radio has been syndicating the Political Cesspool Radio Program since 2009.
So this will be entering into our fourth year.
So nearly half of our run, we've been with you and this network.
And so you had the chance to work with Bill and grow to know him.
And by the way, I've been a listener since 2008, though.
Well, there you go.
So even prior to that, of course, we had to be vetted before we had the opportunity to come and work with you.
And so here we are.
You wrote to me, Sam, six words that you think describe Bill.
And I know we have limited time in this segment.
We have some more people to get to.
But I want to get to each of those six words that you think define Bill.
And I'm going to let you elaborate on them.
The first one is stabilizer.
Yeah, you know, I bring that up because Bill always had this way where he would call me.
Let's say that you were going to be out of town and you were going to leave the show in the capable hands of Bill.
He would call me before the show would start sometime during the week and he'd say, Sam, James is gone.
But don't worry, I'm going to be in the studio and I won't let Keith or Eddie or anybody blow it up.
I'm going to be here and it's going to be all right.
And I just remember that.
And because of that, I just always think of him as the stabilizer.
Whenever something would happen during the show, he'd call me on the cell phone and he'd whisper so the audience wouldn't hear him and he'd be like, Sam, just make sure you keep telling me what's going on because I got the earphones on and I'll make sure it's all good.
And anyway, I'll never forget his influence, even though no one knew it.
He was there and he had a handle on things.
So anyway, very important to me, Bill was the stabilizer.
And I'm sure that was true in his family and in his church and everywhere else, too.
He was that with me, as you well know, because that's why he was the one who hosted in my stead.
He was the stabilizer.
Wisdom.
Wisdom, a second word you use to describe Bill Rowland.
You know, a lot of people have talked about this, but I'm telling you that, you know, sometimes they say somebody is wise beyond their years.
I'm telling you, he had wisdom beyond, in many ways, more so than a person should have.
He was very wise in his delivery, very reasoned in his approach.
A lot of people are pretty smart, but he had wisdom.
He knew how to apply it.
All I can say is reasoned was the thought that I have for him.
His comments were always well reasoned.
Well, we've talked for, we've revisited a couple of times in the previous two hours how Bill was the guy that I went to for counsel, for advice.
Because of his wisdom, I sought his opinion out, and it was always right.
I don't think there was ever a time that he gave me advice where it didn't pan out in the affirmative direction.
Stabilizer and wisdom, certainly two words that describe Bill, but you have more.
This one is certainly one I can relate to as well and knowing his leadership skills.
Fearless.
Fearless, a word you use to describe Bill.
And I bring that up.
Many people have brought it up in different ways as well.
But he would tell you what he thinks, and he wouldn't back away.
He wouldn't apologize while he tells you what he thinks.
He would just tell you what he thinks.
And you know what?
Let the cards fall where they may.
Because of his reasoned approach, it was a sound, simple thing for him to do.
It was just like, you know what?
I've already worked this out in my mind.
It's stable.
It's reasoned.
It's well thought out.
And I'm going to be fearless in telling you and acting in the way that I speak.
He backed it up with actions rather than just words.
And that's something to be said for a fearless man such as Bill.
He told the truth in love.
He was a strong man.
He was a warrior, but he was also gentle and loving.
And at no point did any of those adjectives contradict themselves in the life of Bill Rowland.
Director, Sam, you call him a director.
All right, they call you the front man of the show, and I concur.
He was the director, though.
It didn't matter where Bill found himself.
He would always find a way to influence, not in a negative way, but always find a way to guide things, to improve things, to direct things in such a way to where they went well.
Like I said, he'd call me and say, these guys won't blow up the show, or he'd call me and tell us this or that.
It didn't matter what his role was for a given situation.
He'd always find a way to help guide it and improve it, whatever it was he was working on.
Sam, when I was at his gravesite on Friday, I saw his daughter, which was the older of his two children, holding the hand of her brother while their mother held both of them.
I saw what a real family was.
And I have a real family, and so I can relate.
I have a great relationship with my parents.
I had a great relationship with my grandparents.
I have a great relationship with my wife and daughter.
But to see that in someone else's life is very affirming.
He was a family man, and it showed to the very end.
You know, and his director capability, his ability to have wisdom and apply that, the stabilizer, all of those attributes, you know what, rise to the level of a real family man.
And certainly not least, but the last of your list, follower of Christ.
Certainly he was, and we've been talking about that all show.
And I had that last only because all the other attributes really are because of the fact that he was a follower of Christ, the fact that that governed what he did.
He was pro-life.
He was pro-family.
He was all those things because he was a follower of Christ.
Christ can make more of our lives than we can, James.
Sam, I said the highlight of the show was Art Frith's testimony at the top of the second hour.
I reassess it now.
It was this one.
Thank you, sir, for your contributions to tonight's tribute.
We all want to chime in and we love you, Bill, and we look forward to seeing you, my friend.
And our prayers are with your family, sir.
Sam Bushman, everybody, the owner of Liberty News Radio, our producer of tonight's tribute show.
We'll be back with more right after this.

Call us tonight at 1-866-986-6397.
And here's the host of the Political Cess Pool, James Edwards.
I have found the friend in Jesus.
He's everything to me.
He's the fairest of 10,000 to my soul.
The lily of the valley.
In him alone I see.
All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
In sorrow, he's my comfort.
In trouble, he's my state.
He tells me every care on him to go.
He's a lily of the valley, the bright and morning star.
He's the fairest of 10,000 to my soul.
He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here.
While I live by faith and do his blessed will.
Oh, all afire about me.
I've nothing now to fear.
With this manna, he my hungry soul shall fill.
Then, sweeping up to glory, I'll see his blessed face, where rivers of delight shall ever roll.
He's the lily of the valley, the bright and morning star.
He's the fairest of 10,000 to my soul.
I don't know what's been the star of the show tonight in this tribute to William Albert Rowland III, if it's been his friends and family, many of which have been on thus far, or the music itself, this great gospel music that affirms the fact that Bill Rowland, when he closed his eyes for the final time on this earth, he opened them in the presence of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I am so thankful to have had Bill Rowland as an impact on my life.
The impact, it cannot be fully explained, ladies and gentlemen.
We've been trying our best over the course of the last two and a half hours, but we barely scratched the surface.
But we continue on.
Gordon Baum, the CEO of the Council of Conservative Citizens.
You know, we've mentioned that Bill poured the last eight years of his life into the development of this radio program, but that was certainly not the extent of Bill's activism as a member previously of the SCV, but certainly as a proud board member to his final day of the Council of Conservative Citizens, Bill served.
Gordon is the CEO of that organization and someone who has spent many, many years at Bill's side.
Gordon, welcome to the show, my friend.
Well, I'd like to praise you for having this honor for Bill Rowland.
Well, you know, three hours doesn't nearly cover it.
We could do it for three weeks, three months, three years, and it still wouldn't cover everything that he was.
But I'm really happy tonight.
You know, I've spent a week in the midst of Bill's family and friends at the visitation and at the final services themselves.
And I'm happy to spend the night this evening with friends and family on the radio as we celebrate the life that he lived.
And Gordon, as I said, you were a big part of that.
Talk about your favorite memories of Bill, his service to the council, and everything else.
Well, actually, Bill's been with us over 20 years.
And he was our board of directors, as you said, national board, who passed away.
And I have always had a special affinity to Bill because we're both proud descendants of rhizo German Lutherans that came to this country in the 1700s.
We had a lot in common.
And he's always been a patriot and he's always been an activist.
When I first met him, he was the state heritage chairman for the Tennessee STV.
And he was instrumental in getting our chapter started in Memphis and working on it.
We already had chapter, but the leader had passed away.
And he was avowed in many aspects.
He served as our MC at a number of our national meetings, conferences.
He was one of our earliest webmasters for our website, cfcc.org, C-E-O-FCC.org.
For a couple of years, he was editor of our Citizens Forum newspaper to his health.
It allowed him to keep up with that task.
And probably one of the most important thing is we put out this DVD called the Frankfurt School.
And Bill helped produce that.
And as a narrator, and we still give that out to new members when they joined.
If anybody would like one, just contact us, our website.
And it's very effective.
It explains where all this political correctness comes from.
And it's an excellent DVD.
We still have a number of members that put it on local television access programs locally that still played all across the country today.
Gordon, I'm so happy that you brought that up because it was reminded to me by one of the staff members of the Political Cesspool that Bill was the narrator of that project.
And he helped produce it.
Sure.
And that was a classic pre-sessful example of the activism of Bill Rowland.
That was before I had ever even known him.
In fact, when he taped that, I was probably a kid.
But we put that up on the website just yesterday.
So if you go to thepolitical cesspool.org and go to the Friday blog posting, you'll see that Frankfurt School video that Gordon made.
And I've always had a copy of it.
They can contact us.
Right.
Cfcc.org.
And, you know, that's another thing, Gordon.
When I first met Bill, which was about 10 years ago, just right around the time the show was getting started in October of 2004, he was a member of the council.
He brought me into the council.
And after he brought me into the council, he made sure that the council and the show were working in cooperation with one another because he was, of course, an integral part of both.
So, you know, in his advertisements for the Council of Conservative Citizens still to this day and will continue to play on this show.
And we know a lot of people have joined the council as a result of the promotion that this show has given the organization.
He was a man who brought people together for a common good.
Well, his nickname was Bo, but the SCV days he was known as Wild Bill.
That's right.
Because he's never been shy about his opinions.
He's never been timid.
And he's been a stand-up patriot.
And his shoes will be hard to fill.
It's a savings.
Check out life this early.
But he's a good man that always sits with the Savior.
I have no doubts about that.
He has a good family.
And we don't often get people that are as talented and devoted as Bill.
Well, we don't.
And, you know, you can't, he's absolutely irreplaceable.
You can't put a premium on a man who lived the kind of life that Bill did.
And it's not just because I was his friend and I have a certain affection toward him.
That was just the honest to God's truth.
But I'll tell you this, Gordon.
I'm glad that he was the great facilitator, that he brought people together, that he brought us together.
The show, the council, and now we're working in cooperation.
And despite his passing, that will continue to be.
So, folks, I encourage you to check out cfcc.org.
Gordon, it's been a very busy show tonight.
Every segment has had a different guest, it seems, but I'm glad that you were able to come on because the council was such an important part of Bill's life, and it's only fitting that the CEO of that organization be with us this evening.
And so, my friend, that's why you were invited.
It's an honor due.
So, Ed, like I say, I have nothing but praise for you and Keith and the rest of the staff for doing this to Holly Bill.
Well, the honor will continue in the fight that we lead on his behalf, and I'm sure you share in that sentiment.
Gordon Baum, everybody, CEO of the council, an organization that not only Bill belonged to, but that he fought for until his final day.
So, Gordon, thanks again.
One of the leaders.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
Well, we're coming up on a break, Winston.
Eddie, the Bombardier Miller is in the studio.
I know you've been waiting patiently, and we only have a few seconds until our next break.
You've heard a lot over the course of the last half hour.
What would you comment on that?
Thank you.
Thank you, Gordon.
Winston, you still with us?
Oh, yes, I am, James.
Just a quick, a very quick response to that which Gordon has said, and then we'll bring you back on after the commercial break.
Well, actually, hold it right there, Winston.
I apologize.
We're going to have you respond to both Sam Bushman and Gordon's comments when we come back right after this.
Stay tuned.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King Through eternal ages let his praises ring Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing.
Standing on the promises of God.
Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God, my Savior, standing, standing.
I'm standing on the promises of God.
What a celebration.
What triumphant music.
To know, I know I've said it, folks, but to know that Bill Rowland, yes, he's in the presence of Jesus Christ, the ultimate, the Lord and Savior, but a far distant second and third.
Just think about it, folks.
He has met Robert E. Lee at this point.
Bill Rowland has had a conversation on heaven's front porch with Robert E. Lee.
I can guarantee you he has shared with Nathan Bedford Forrest the fact that he fought to preserve his tomb here in Memphis.
I know Bill rushed to the Lord Jesus Christ when he first got to heaven, but I guarantee you not too long after that, after seeing his own father, he went to the great Confederate forebears for which he dedicated so much of his fight on this earth.
Welcome back to the show.
This hour has been incredible.
Sam Bushman, Gordon Baum, Winston Smith still on the line with me, has been waiting patiently, and I thank you for that.
Brother Eddie Miller in studio with me right now.
And we're going to get to Eddie in just a second.
But Winston, back over to you for a moment.
Your responses to that which Sam and Gordon had to share in the first two segments of this, our third and final hour?
Well, Sam, Stephanie had told me that she's having a hard time keeping up with him because he was speaking so fast in a very animated manner.
But he said a lot of good things.
I like the words he chose to describe Bill.
That was very, very interesting.
And as far as Gordon, few men, few people knew Bill better than Gordon.
I've met Gordon a few times, and he's always a paragon of gentlemanly manners, and love Gordon a bit.
But, you know, you can take his word for what he says about Bill, because, as I said, few people knew Bill better and worked with him as closely.
Winston, that's true.
Perhaps the only people that worked more closely with Bill over the course of the last few years were the staff of the Cesspool because Bill was such an important and integral part of what we did here.
You had the opportunity, Winston, to share the first hour co-hosting with Keith Alexander.
You heard Art's pre-recorded comments, Art Frith, our old producer, at the top of the second hour.
I want to tell you now that Eddie is here in the studio, and I'm sure you'd like to say hello to him.
I certainly would.
Hello, Eddie.
Hello there, my brother Winston.
It's been far too long, my kid brother.
I would do anything if I could just be able to see you in this studio tonight, my brother.
Anything at all?
He's joking, Eddie.
He's joking.
But listen, Eddie, I was going through, and I know, Eddie, with Winston having moved from Memphis, you were able to come to the funeral this week.
And I shared with you then and there that I had the opportunity a few days ago to go through our photo albums.
And I was looking through so many old pictures, pictures of me, you, Winston, and Bill at so many different events and gatherings, dinners, conferences, corn mazes.
I had a picture of me, of actually you, Eddie, and Bill at the studio together as y'all hosted a show with Tom Sunich.
And I was going through the broadcast archives going back all the way to 2004, and I saw many occasions during which you and Bill filled in for me.
I didn't remember them off the top of my head because after eight years and a thousand shows, you can't remember all of them.
But going through the archives, I saw it would read Bill Rowland and Eddie Miller fill in for James Edwards, and it would go on to talk about what you discussed in that show.
Talk about being in the studio with Bill and your first time meeting Bill, Eddie.
You know, I'll never forget that first time.
I've heard you speak of Bill a lot.
And when he came in, he was everything you said he was and more.
He had this charisma about him right off the bat.
It was come in.
It was immediately taking charge, putting everything in order.
He had just a tremendous amount of charisma and honesty.
You know, before I forget, because you know I'm forgetful, James, one thing I'll always treasure is, you know, you and me and Henry and Keith were at the hospital the last couple of days before he passed.
And one thing that I'll always treasure is it came over me.
I just said, I've got to pray for Bill.
And I was able to hold his hand like a true brother.
And I spoke to him, and I knew he could understand me because I told him to give me the hand squeeze signals.
And I asked him if he was afraid to die.
And he said no.
And that took a lot of courage.
But I just had to pray for him.
That was one of the most marvelous feelings that I ever had, even though it's sad.
It's a paradox.
And I was glad, but sad at the same time.
But one thing that always struck me about Bill, I'm sure it's probably been said a hundred times, but his courage was just, his courage was unquestionable.
The man had courage.
He was almost always right in everything he said.
He never backed down from anything.
He didn't worry about losing his job in the face of adversity.
And you know how controversial we hear are the political cesspool.
Bill, I'll tell you what, Bill Rowland is the absolute antithesis of what we have in politics today.
The people in Washington, D.C., I mean, they're just totally different from Bill.
They're just, you know, scum.
None of them have any of the integrity, the honesty, the courage, the Christian love that Bill had.
And you said something a minute ago, I'm not going to steal your thunder, though.
But I always felt Bill was a Christian.
And if I ever had any doubt, the last several days we spent when Bill was in the hospital dying, from what his family said and what he told me, I had a few private words with him as he was dying.
He put me at ease.
He ministered to me, James, at the funeral.
The priest, I mean, everybody was amazed.
The pastor where Bill went to church was a brilliant man.
He gave one of the most brilliant services I've ever heard.
It was scripturally right on the money.
You know, I don't hold myself up to be a Bible scholar, but I do know a thing or two about the Bible.
The man was right on the money, but I've never heard it put so brilliant.
And the man was absolutely bowled over.
He said that Bill Rowland was about the most brilliant man he'd ever seen, James.
And Bill was that.
Bill was brilliant.
And he put it, it was a quiet strength that he had, a quiet brilliantness.
I never heard him say, I don't think, really a bad word about anybody except maybe in anger.
Not nearly as bad as I've said, James.
The man was a hardcore Christian.
And I think he was a Southern Christian.
And you mentioned Robert E. Lee.
I think that Bill will be standing eyeball to eyeball Robert E. Lee when he gets to heaven.
I mean, he's that kind of man, James.
Art Frith mentioned, Eddie, our good friend Art, that Bill had set up a radio station in heaven already.
And he's waiting for us to join him so we can do the show up there.
But he's listening tonight.
And I have no doubt that Robert E. Lee and Forrest and Jackson are sitting with him as they listen to this tribute.
And he's saying, yeah, I told you guys I really wasn't kidding.
I really did fight for y'all.
And he did.
You mentioned being in the hospital, Eddie, last Wednesday or a week ago Wednesday, which would have been four days before Bill passed and went on to receive his eternal reward.
And we were there.
And I remember talking with his mother, who was also there with us.
And she said that one of the last things Bill said to her as he knew his time was coming near, his mother was obviously upset over the prospect of losing her son.
Bill told her, and I'll never forget, as long as I live what she said to me, Bill said, Mother, don't be discouraged in the Lord.
This is part of his perfect plan.
What strength, what courage to be able to say that, Eddie?
And you know what?
And what faith.
You know, James, I'm sure, you know, I consider myself a hardcore Christian, but I'll admit at times my faith will get low, you know, and it'll usually come back.
But in a strange way, the same thing happened to me at St. Jude Hospital trying to minister to some terminal kids out there.
They wound up ministering to me.
Well, that day we went to the hospital, Bill's situation ministered to me.
His mother, that statement you said, stuck in my mind too.
It was like divine intervention that did Bill, the Holy Spirit was working through Bill.
Two more books from outfit, James.
When we come back, I'm going to have Winston share his thoughts on what Bill said, one of the last things he ever said to his mother when we come back.
Stay tuned, everybody.
Yeah?
Did you want to see me, sir?
Well, I did, but now that I do, I'm not so sure.
Sir?
Johnson, I got a mission for you that could change your life.
Oh, good, sir.
It involves traveling halfway around the world without so much as half a clue of where you're going or what you're going to do when you get there.
Situation normal, sir?
But I'll be leading this mission, Johnson, so I'll be telling you what to do.
You, sir?
That's right, Johnson.
And I say first things first.
Good plan, sir.
And when I say as first is food, always remember that, Johnson.
Food is a big deal.
Sir, my brother-in-law can get us a really good deal on some surplus MREs.
Johnson, if you've got half a brain and that empty head of yours, you'll call the freeze-dry guy like I did.
That food is better for you.
It rehydrates faster and it's good, Johnson.
And it keeps for up to 30 years.
Will we be gone that long, sir?
I hope not.
Now get your supplies organized and meet me down to the pier at dawn on Sunday.
We sail at sunrise.
Yes, sir.
This adventure is brought to you by the freeze-dry guy.
Call 866-404-3663 or visit freezedryguy.com.

Welcome back.
To get on the Political Cess Poll, call us on James's Dime, toll-free, at 1-866-986-6397.
And here's the host of the political cesspool, James Edwards.
With these redeeming God, give a man to me.
He went to victory.
He knew the plans of God.
I heard a lot of mention of me.
And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea.
About the angels singing in the old redemption story.
And some sweet day I'll sing a man a song of victory over to Jesus.
Welcome back to the final segment of tonight's tribute to Bill Rowland.
It's been such an honor to be able to present this to you as his friend and brother.
Folks, you know, even though Bill's body has passed on, his eternal soul lives forever in the presence of Jesus Christ in heaven.
And his work and deeds on this earth will live on forever as well.
In the broadcast archives of the Political Cess Poll radio program dating back to 2004, you have thousands of hours of Bill Rowland to listen to.
The advertisements that, you know, you can still hear him on the CFCC ad that airs each week on the Cesspool.
So many great shows he participated in with us.
I remember Eddie, the show about Ole Miss when they were eradicating and genociding Colonel Rebel, where he called the administrator of Ole Miss a rug merchant and just so much more.
His interviews with Michael Andrew Grissom and Hutton Gibson.
I could go on and on and on.
I'll tell you this, folks.
I am planning over the course of the next few weeks, and I'll have to talk to Sam Bushman about this, who gave such a fitting tribute to Bill at the top of this hour.
But during the third hour of each show for the remainder of the month of March, I'd like to dig deep into the broadcast archives.
And I mean going back to the very beginning, 2004, 2005, 2006, and pulling some of the best of Bill Rowland and playing that for you this month as we cope with the loss of our friend and brother.
But there's one more person who's going to chime in this evening, and that is Peter Scoop Stanton, our correspondent and longtime TPC ally.
Scoop, you have been affected by this as well as the rest of us.
Your thoughts on the passing of Bill.
Well, good evening, friends, family members, and fans of Bill Rowland.
Like I said, James, I spoke to you earlier.
This is not a morning.
This is a celebration of Bill Rowland.
When Bill passed and went to heaven, he was met at the Pray Gates by Sam Francis.
After he met his family members and his heroes, he went right to work.
He started his own radio show.
And the first panel included Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Nathan Bedford Corridor.
All right, Scoop.
You know, let me say this.
Scoop, let me say this.
You're working tonight.
You're calling in from work.
You have not heard the previous segments of the show, so you don't know that we have already mentioned that.
You're mentioning it, too, without the benefit of having heard that we have already mentioned it.
That just goes to show, I guarantee you, he and the Confederates are having a party tonight.
Right, right.
But that's the first show.
Guess who's on the second show?
Martin Luther King.
After the beating that Mr. King took, his first guest was going to be Philip Marshall.
He said, no way.
But sitting aside, how I came to meet Bill was that I was going to be on the show.
I got a text from James that says, all right, you're going to be on with Bill and Keith.
Okay.
So I get on the radio and I'm on first time with Bill and Keith.
And it went off without a hitch.
Nobody was hogging any airtime.
Bill said, Pete, what do you got?
And I let it fly.
And the COC commercial, when he was narrating it, it was chilling.
And then to honor Bill my way, I was driving my car going to work again, and Sean Handy happened to be on the 36M dial.
So I decided to call in and try to mention Bill Rowland.
And I said, eventually I got on.
I said, Sean, welcome to calling from the Political Success Board of Washington, D.C.
And then I went on and on about the sequester.
And I tried to drop Bill's name.
But of course, for Sean, he's very good at what he does.
And everything's on a very tight schedule.
So I was unable to get his name across.
But Bill will be missed.
He just, I never had the chance to meet the guy.
He was a great guy.
I don't know what more I could say.
Oh, he never let on his condition because I was at Chuck E. Cheese, and I asked James, said, well, what's the condition of Bill?
He let me know what it was.
And I was like, I was floored.
That was last week.
Bill was a man's man.
A man's man.
That certainly sums it up.
It certainly sums it up, Scoop.
He was a man's man.
You had the opportunity to work with Bill on the radio, having never met him before as our correspondent in Washington, D.C., and before that, or correspondent from Europe, where you were previously stationed.
But you had the chance to work with Bill on the radio quite a bit.
You shared with the audience your first experience of working with Bill, but you never had the chance to meet him.
But yet, as so many others have mentioned, he was still your brother.
And one particularly fun political cesspool show where we were, you had called in.
Bill and I were on the line.
And somehow, by hook or quirk, we began to talk about our favorite beverages.
And you and Bill had some big time.
Yeah, doing a beer run.
Eddie was prepared for the marathon.
And my joke was, well, Eddie's going to run 26 miles.
I'll walk half mile for a six-pack of Pat's Blue Ribbon Callboys.
And we were just talking about our favorite beverages.
And it was the most down-to-earth, funny, fun show we ever did.
No preparation, no politics, no nothing.
It was just fun.
And I remember I had to take a picture of the beer, and James, your phone was a piece of crap.
I had to send Bill the photo of Christmas Pack of Beer.
So I still have his phone number in my phone, but it won't be deleted.
And it'll never be deleted.
I never met Bill.
It'll never be deleted from mine as well.
But Bill did send me the picture you sent to him while we were live on the air of your Peps Blue Ribbon Tall Boys.
Thankfully, and I want to announce loud and clearly for the FCC, you did not enjoy those PAPs until after you were off the air.
Right.
But Scoop.
Yeah, after I drove home in the car with my two-year-old daughter.
Scoop, we've had some good times together, and you shared some of those with Bill.
Thank you for calling in tonight and being part of the tribute show.
I want to quickly, and we only have a couple of minutes left, and it's been a great show, and we'll continue to fight on behalf of Bill as the show moves forward and the battles continue.
But Winston, I want to give a minute to you and a minute to Eddie.
A final word from you, my friend, on Bill Rowland.
James, I'm just going to quote what Stonewall Jackson said since we've been comparing Bill to our great Confederate forebears.
And when Stonewall Jackson lay dying from having his arm amputated, here's what he said.
You see me severely wounded, but not depressed, not unhappy.
I believe it has been done according to God's holy will, and I acquiesce entirely to it.
You may think it's strange that you never saw me more perfectly contented than I am today, for I am sure that my Heavenly Father designs this affliction for my good.
I am perfectly satisfied that either in this life or in that which is to come, I shall discover that what is now regarded as calamity is a blessing.
And I think what Bill's mother told Eddie, this was the first thing that came to my mind when Eddie related that incident.
And that was Bill.
No regrets.
Yeah, he had cancer.
He suffered for it, but he had no regrets about it at all.
He knew it was all in God's perfect and wise and mysterious providence.
Well, Winston, another thing that Bill's pastor said at the service on Friday was that when Bill told to Bill that he had stage four cancer, Bill said it was liberating.
It was freeing.
It freed him.
Eddie, a final word, and we have just a few seconds left.
A final word about Bill.
Well, I'd just like to say, well, the Founding Fathers once said that a right undefended is a right lost.
Also, Winston Churchill once said that if a man will not fight when victory is relatively assured and easily won, there will become a time that he will fight when there is absolutely no hope at all, but because death is better than slavery.
And that, to me, sums up Bill.
Winston, Eddie, and everyone else who contributed to the night's show, we thank you.
We love you.
God bless you, Bill.
We know you're listening from up above.
I'm James Edwards.
The political cesspool continues next week, everybody.
Join us then as the battle continues.
