The Golden One - Marcus Follin - Anxious in the Gym? No Need! Practical Advice For Beginners Aired: 2022-01-06 Duration: 05:01 === Feel Shy? Wear Earphones! (05:00) === [00:00:01] Absolutely massive is what I am in my humble opinion. [00:00:06] So I thought to respond to a somewhat commonly asked question and that is from guys who say to me you know I feel a bit anxious going into the gym. [00:00:17] I feel a bit shy. [00:00:19] I feel a bit out of my element going into the gym. [00:00:22] And I have a simple solution for you and that is to wear a pair of earphones. [00:00:29] I'm not affiliated with this company in any way by the way, but I do like them. [00:00:34] And I do prefer to have, you know, with the cable so it's not wireless because it can be some additional signals going back and forth via Bluetooth. [00:00:46] So sometimes of course I have used wireless earphones, but I prefer this type. [00:00:52] Anyway, why I mentioned this is because, you know, if you haven't been to the gym a lot, you might think it's almost like a social event going out into a public place, but you don't need to interact with anyone. [00:01:06] Now, of course, this is very obvious to any long-time supporter of mine. [00:01:14] And if you've been to the gym a lot, you know that some days you have, you know, you can go into yourself, you can show with your body language that you're not there to talk. [00:01:24] And same thing for me. [00:01:26] Sometimes I am talkative, sometimes I'm not. [00:01:29] If I'm in a hurry, I can just, yeah, put this on and with my body language show that I am only focused on my training. [00:01:37] So I'm, you know, I'm focusing in on myself a bit more like this. [00:01:42] And then I do my sets and then I live. [00:01:45] Quick, good session. [00:01:46] Or in a different situation, perhaps if you are in a more familiar gym, if you are in a powerlifting gym, you know, where people are more used to talking to each other, then it's, yeah, it's more appropriate to be a bit more like this, a bit more open. [00:02:02] You talk to people, you say hello to people and stuff like that. [00:02:05] So you can, if you don't want to talk in the gym, go to a more commercial gym and again keep a pair of earphones on you. [00:02:14] Show with your body language that you're not there to be social and you should be fine. [00:02:19] So if you are shy, if you're anxious and you have no interest in talking to anyone, it's easily done. [00:02:25] You don't need to make a big deal out of it. [00:02:28] On the other hand, if you train in a nice gym, then by all means be talkative because it's much nicer if you train regularly at a place and you have some sort of relationship with the other people training there. [00:02:43] And, you know, it doesn't need to be a big deal either, but it can be just to say hello, maybe chit-chat a bit during the rest during the sets, but it's up to the place. [00:02:55] But anyway, to conclude, if you feel shy going to the gym, nothing to be shy about. [00:03:02] Most people in the gym, they are there to focus on themselves and they probably will not pay much attention to you. [00:03:10] So if you feel that you go into a public space and oh, everyone is watching you, they aren't because they're mostly preoccupied with their own thoughts and their own problems and stuff like that. [00:03:22] So you might think that people care about you, but they don't really, not all too much in the sense that they look at you and stuff. [00:03:30] But as long as you have, you know, clean, nice clothes, you are, well, you don't smell or anything like that, then there won't be an issue at all. [00:03:40] So anyway, I just wanted to mention that in case anyone felt a bit anxious going into the gym. [00:03:47] Then of course also this gets a bit harder when we're talking about martial arts because then you have to interact with people because most drills they are, you know, you pair up two and two. [00:03:59] But same thing there. [00:04:00] Just be polite, nice, cut your fingernails, toenails, be washed, wash your feet, wash your hands, especially important for your hygiene. [00:04:12] And of course don't go to either the gym or an MMA club if you feel sick. [00:04:18] That's very egoistic of you. [00:04:20] So stay at home if you feel ill. [00:04:22] But otherwise just be kind and polite and all will be well. [00:04:28] So anyway, long story short, don't worry about it. [00:04:32] You don't need to go into the gym to make it a social occasion and you don't need to be shy about going into the gym because most people they focus on themselves and you can focus on your own session. [00:04:45] So yeah, good times, good times. [00:04:48] Lastly, I have written a schedule which you can check out first link in the description box. [00:04:53] But I suppose if you follow me on Telegram you are already aware of this. [00:04:58] No, thank you for watching and best of luck in the Temple of Iron.
