The Golden One - Marcus Follin - Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Part 6. More Book Recommendations and Naval Battles Aired: 2018-12-28 Duration: 27:36 === Gates of Fire Readaloud (05:11) === [00:00:00] Greetings, Larringtons. [00:00:02] Welcome back to good old Hellas. [00:00:05] Now, I read through the comments on the last video, and I saw actually that a few of you had recommended a book that I'm holding in my hand right now, and I'm putting it up on the screen now as well. [00:00:18] Gates of Fire by Stephen Pressfield. [00:00:24] And I actually have this in my library, but I have not read it yet. [00:00:29] It was actually a birthday gift I got from a mate of mine two and a half years ago. [00:00:37] And he is quite similar to myself. [00:00:42] He's training a lot of MMA. [00:00:45] Well, of course, I train more in the gym now, but he is into that at least. [00:00:49] And he's very much into history and philosophy, etc. [00:00:54] So he recommended that to me and gave it to me. [00:00:57] But I haven't read it yet. [00:00:59] But now that some of you reminded me of that book, I will definitely check that out. [00:01:06] So that is about good old Leonidas, so very suitable to read now that I'm playing this game. [00:01:17] So I'll continue to elaborate a bit on books after we have spoken to this fine gentleman. [00:01:22] Sopra. [00:01:25] We are ready when you are, Captain. [00:01:27] Wait! [00:01:30] Wait for me, Alexios. [00:01:31] I'm all back in everything. [00:01:33] You're coming, are you? [00:01:34] If you're going, I'm going. [00:01:39] This is not a place for a young girl. [00:01:44] You're too little, my girl. [00:01:46] Phoebe, you're not old enough. [00:01:49] I can't look after you all the time. [00:01:51] I can look after myself. [00:01:53] I don't need anyone to help me. [00:01:56] Oh, but you do. [00:01:57] Even if that were true, it's not your time. [00:02:00] But there wouldn't be any trouble. [00:02:02] Promise. [00:02:08] If I can't come, then take Hara. [00:02:11] Hara? [00:02:12] My pet eagle. [00:02:13] She's my friend. [00:02:15] Mother gave her a little bit of her. [00:02:17] But she'll be your friend now. [00:02:19] And it'll be like I'm there with you, you know, to remind you of me. [00:02:24] Thanks, Phoebe. [00:02:29] Besides, I'll have Kina to play with. [00:02:31] Since you saved her. [00:02:32] Go easy on her. [00:02:34] She may still be shaky with the fever. [00:02:36] But you have to promise that we'll see each other again. [00:02:44] Hmm, we have some... ...some dilemmas here. [00:02:47] This is a bit too mean. [00:02:51] To well, I suppose it's the truth as well, but we might come back, so I'll go with this one. [00:02:57] I'll hope I'll see you again. [00:03:01] The fates know we're best friends, Alexios. [00:03:03] They'll make sure we meet again. [00:03:06] Zeus will sit. [00:03:11] Alexios! [00:03:14] Leaving Cephalonia without saying goodbye to your dear Marcos? [00:03:18] Tell me it isn't true. [00:03:19] Well, you're here now, so it won't be true. [00:03:23] Goodbye, Marcus. [00:03:24] Well said, well said, Alexios dynamic duo! [00:03:27] I'll never replace you. [00:03:29] Well, I may need another assistant someday, but it won't be easy. [00:03:34] Come now, give me a hug. [00:03:40] Alright, bro. [00:03:41] Give me a bro hug here. [00:03:43] Yes, bring it in. [00:03:45] Oh, will I ever miss you, Alexios? [00:03:48] Thanks, Marcos. [00:03:49] I'll miss you two. [00:03:51] And what does the future hold for you? [00:03:53] Wine, of course. [00:03:55] Though you never know when the vines will wither, I'm always ready for another adventure. [00:04:03] Speaking of adventure, I have a task for you, dear Phoebe. [00:04:07] An adventure? [00:04:09] Already following in your footsteps isn't she my friend ready to set sail? [00:04:23] let's go bro prepare to cast off it's time to leave good the tides wait for neither man nor woman time to go let's go champ So, what course do we set? [00:04:44] Where in this big, beautiful world does the mighty Alexios want to go? [00:04:50] Megaris. [00:04:52] Megaris, but we'll be sailing into war. [00:04:55] I got a contract for some general's head. [00:04:58] Whose head? [00:05:00] They call him the wolf. [00:05:02] The wolf? [00:05:04] Who wants Nicolaus of Sparta dead? [00:05:06] Nicolas of Sparta. [00:05:09] Uh oh. === Don't Listen, Nicolaus (02:38) === [00:05:11] This is not boding well. [00:05:17] The Oracle has spoken to prevent Sparta's fall. [00:05:24] The child must fall first. [00:05:28] You can't let this happen. [00:05:32] She'll do no harm. [00:05:33] She'll help us. [00:05:35] She will leave! [00:06:25] He has no spot in Nicolas. [00:06:29] Don't listen. [00:06:31] Nicolaus. [00:06:33] Don't listen. [00:06:35] No. [00:06:39] No. [00:06:40] Don't listen. [00:06:54] Butter! [00:07:11] Look at me, Nicolaus. [00:07:13] Don't don't listen. [00:07:20] Your blood is tainted. [00:07:22] RID YOURSELF OF THIS POISON! [00:07:25] Butter? === Let's Set the Pace High (15:35) === [00:07:50] Wow, an intense... [00:07:52] It's Megaris. [00:07:53] Now. [00:07:54] Intense since my father. [00:08:10] The plot thickens. [00:08:12] Yeah, he was obviously just looking out for his baby sister. [00:08:16] I have to admire that. [00:08:19] Obviously, a complex story behind, I assume. [00:08:25] But I think he was a good boy in that scenario. [00:09:04] How your ship and crew perform. [00:09:07] Alright, there! [00:09:08] Let's get moving! [00:09:10] Right, let's take command. [00:09:13] Fortunately, since I played Origins, I should know how this goes. [00:09:22] Look at that, we have leveled up too. [00:09:24] How nice. [00:09:27] Ah, look at that. [00:09:28] Beautiful. [00:09:29] And we see the Zeus statue. [00:09:32] Also, I saw some fun comments that I was talking about the author Harry Sidebottom while I was climbing up the actual bottom of the Zeus statue. [00:09:42] That was an accident, I assure you. [00:09:46] I did not even think about it, but in retrospect, I suppose it was quite a funny coincidence. [00:09:55] Either way, I thought to mention something about God of War by Christine Cameron. [00:10:07] I was a bit younger. [00:10:09] Well, I mean, I was a few years younger, so yeah, a few years back. [00:10:14] I read it. [00:10:15] So I might have not liked this as much today if I had seen some of the inglorious sights of it. [00:10:30] Someone mentioned that the main character, which is Ptolemy, had a bit of an inglorious view of his women. [00:10:40] And what I mean with that is that he, if I'm not mistaken now, didn't mind that she had been a Hetera. [00:10:52] I don't know if I pronounced that correctly, but Hetera was then a courtesan of sorts. [00:10:59] I don't know about the historical accuracy of any of this, but that's just something also a comment from the last video mentioned, and I thought to mention that again so you don't get that book in and see some heresies. [00:11:22] But overall, I remember it was a good book. [00:11:26] Let's go, champs. [00:11:30] Boom. [00:11:31] Parabas shipment Well, you're going to have to persuade him. [00:11:58] What do you mean? [00:11:59] You get him a board and I'll talk him into it. [00:12:02] A little drachmi should sweeten the deal. [00:12:05] So you want me to knock him out? [00:12:08] No, no. [00:12:10] Well, maybe just pacify him a little, then get him to the ship so we can have a little talk. [00:12:16] Everything will be fine, I promise you. [00:12:23] Alright. [00:12:25] Nice for the Silchant as well. [00:12:27] So I thought to mention something else I saw in a comment, and that was a true friend asked if I had read the Raven trilogy by Gilles Christian. [00:12:40] Yes, I have. [00:12:40] And I have actually made a book recommendation about those books. [00:12:46] And this was a few years back. [00:12:47] I got the question then if I had any good Viking book recommendations. [00:12:52] And then I said him and yet again, as I mentioned in the last video, Bernard Cornwell. [00:12:58] So yes, Jills Christian, good author. [00:13:01] Good author indeed. [00:13:02] I can definitely recommend him. [00:13:06] Then I got a question about if I have any good fantasy books, and I have plenty. [00:13:10] The first one I mentioned was Joe Abercrombie. [00:13:15] He has a very particular writing style. [00:13:22] Doss Joe Abercrombie. [00:13:28] Alright, there we have him, I suppose. [00:13:34] But yeah, good recommendation right there. [00:13:39] Joe Abercrombie. [00:13:44] I will jump down in the nice water here. [00:13:48] Looks nice to swim around in it. [00:13:52] So also, I hope the frame rate is loyal this time. [00:13:56] I had a bit of a problem with it before. [00:14:00] And I could play on right, I'm gonna do the following first. [00:14:10] I could play on very high with my GTX 1060 without any problem, but obviously it's a bit different when I also have to record it. [00:14:20] So I suppose that's the issue there. [00:14:24] Swift dagger. [00:14:26] Boom. [00:14:27] Didn't even know that I had it. [00:14:29] And oh, look at that. [00:14:34] Chalcadian. [00:14:36] Don't know how to pronounce that. [00:14:39] Or a Sparta. [00:14:42] Okay, the Sparta one is more epic. [00:14:44] So let's definitely go for that. [00:14:47] And then we have some new armor. [00:14:50] Look at that. [00:14:51] Double armor. [00:14:52] Absolutely joyous, if anything. [00:14:59] Then going to abilities, see what the crack is here. [00:15:04] I suppose we'll have to progress further in the story there. [00:15:13] Second wind. [00:15:15] Alright, that sounds like a good idea. [00:15:19] Can assign it to the second. [00:15:22] Right, let's do this. [00:15:24] Whoop! [00:15:25] Oh, look at that helmet. [00:15:27] absolutely aesthetic. [00:15:35] I have to enter power gaming mode so I will not be as talkative. [00:15:49] Well, that was silly of me. [00:16:10] Die, unbeliever. [00:16:13] These guys have blasphemed against Ares and thus they needed to be illuminated to the primordial truth. [00:16:25] Hello mate, I want to kick this individual. [00:16:31] Boom! [00:16:32] That was very aesthetic of me. [00:16:37] Look at this. [00:16:38] Absolutely. [00:16:40] Absolute madcunt. [00:16:42] It's all I have to say about that. [00:16:45] I can't quicksave, unfortunately, but it seems that I've survived the worst of it, at least. [00:17:02] Corinthian helmets, and... [00:17:03] And yeah, quite fun since I answered the question what my favorite helmets are in a recent QA. [00:17:12] Got the question of who my favorite Roman Emperor was and what my favorite helmets are. [00:17:18] Always get good questions on my from my supporters. [00:17:26] But what should we actually do here? [00:17:29] We're supposed to talk with someone. [00:17:34] If I am was this this guy? [00:17:37] No, that's a skeleton. [00:17:42] You can recruit any soldier on the island. [00:17:47] Alright, so maybe this was just a little hideout for some bandits. [00:18:06] So I suppose we'll have to go to the main island to recruit some madcunts to fight for us. [00:18:15] We'll have to train our pull-up game here. [00:18:20] It didn't go well. [00:18:21] I had to kill him. [00:18:23] Maybe we won't try for a pirate next time. [00:18:26] There'll be plenty more people we can recruit in the future. [00:18:29] The gods will provide us with the opportunities we need. [00:18:32] Of that, I am sure. [00:18:34] We should set a course for Megaris. [00:18:38] A long voyage can be relaxing, but we are not really the cruising type. [00:18:43] If you want to spice things up a bit, you can always check my logo there. [00:18:47] I make a note of anything I hear that could be of interest to a daring counter. [00:18:53] Alright, mate, that sounds sounds glorious. [00:18:59] dock ship all right let's uh let's go champs [00:19:22] Let's set the pace high on this ship, and that will give me an excellent opportunity to Elaborate on some books, I suppose. [00:19:41] So, what I'm currently reading at the moment is actually three books. [00:19:53] First one is something I started a while back. [00:19:55] A really mammoth of a book, which a true friend gave me. [00:20:00] Shout out to you, thank you. [00:20:02] Looks like this, putting it up on the screen too. [00:20:05] Quite good fantasy as well. [00:20:06] So, I'm almost finished with that. [00:20:08] And then I also am reading Garrow Weapon of Fate in Horus Heresy because I am as you all know, I'm a great fan of the Horus Heresy. [00:20:22] And then, as a non-fiction book, I'm reading Western Prices Physical Degeneration book, and that I will actually have to read well before my daughter arrives. [00:20:35] So, aha, we have a little mission here. [00:20:42] just gonna see what the crack is alright I utilized a little edit there I didn't realize that we had to destroy these heretics in order to progress in the storyline. [00:21:02] So, power gaming mode initiated. [00:21:06] And I'm gonna try to get these Athenians. [00:21:11] So, yes, the classical war between a land-based aristocracy, aka Sparta, versus a mercantile naval-based power such as Athens. [00:21:25] You can find these sort of examples throughout history. [00:21:28] Quite interesting. [00:21:30] Germany versus Great Britain in the First World War, for example, where we have Germany as the land-based power, and Great Britain, obviously, a bit more mercantile naval-based power. [00:21:53] Now, let's see. [00:21:55] They will try to ram us. [00:21:57] Not good. [00:21:59] Not good. [00:21:59] Ah, they missed. [00:22:00] Great. [00:22:03] meat. [00:22:13] Ah, damn. [00:22:15] That's That's not good at all. [00:22:19] Come on, mates. [00:22:29] Right, can we initiate a boarding here, perhaps? [00:22:37] Alright, let's go champs. [00:22:48] Man, charge then. [00:22:49] Boom, there we are. [00:23:02] Nice one, mates. [00:23:06] Aha, he isn't there. [00:23:10] We are. [00:23:13] We can loot. [00:23:17] But can we... [00:23:23] Ah, they were. === Naval Power Strategy (02:54) === [00:23:25] One ship down. [00:23:26] Let's get the other ones. [00:23:29] And if I'm a bit noobish here, it's obviously because this is the first time I'm doing this in this particular game. [00:23:40] But anyway, let's illuminate these heretics. [00:23:48] So obviously the advantage if you're a naval power, silly-based power is that you can almost always get in supplies. [00:23:57] If you control the sils and if you control the trade lanes, you're much more durable when it comes to the short shortages of food, etc. [00:24:06] Whereas if you're a land-based power and your agriculture is being ravaged by land, by raids, etc., it will obviously not be as durable. [00:24:22] We can't even reach them. [00:24:24] This is blasphemous. [00:24:26] Perhaps we can ram them. [00:24:30] Let's see. [00:24:35] Yes, go on, lads. [00:24:41] Boom. [00:24:42] Maybe we can ram this guy, too. [00:24:46] Ah, not quite. [00:25:07] hurry up man maybe we should board this guy Maybe we should wait a bit until we have maybe taken this guy. [00:25:38] He's a nice one. [00:25:40] Yeah, since I've initiated power gaming mode, that's why I'm not as talkative. [00:25:46] Maybe we can ram this guy again. === A Bit of a Fail (01:17) === [00:26:19] Yes, go on, lads. [00:26:24] Go on, then. [00:26:29] Huh, that was a bit of a fail. [00:26:32] To be perfectly honest. [00:26:39] Look at that. [00:26:41] He died a heroic death in the name of his gods. [00:26:53] There we are. [00:26:55] Alright, I utilized yet another edit there just because it was an extremely grindy fight. [00:27:03] It's gonna finish you off. [00:27:04] Boom. [00:27:05] There we are. [00:27:06] And yeah, so that will have to conclude this fine episode, I suppose. [00:27:15] And thank you for watching, and I hope you had some got some good book advice from watching it at least. [00:27:26] So Talk to Nikolaus. [00:27:31] We'll pick up here in the next episode, which will be out tomorrow then.
