The Golden One - Marcus Follin - Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Part 5. Fighting the Cyclops and Book Recommendations Aired: 2018-12-26 Duration: 21:37 === Historic Fiction Recommendations (06:21) === [00:00:00] Greetings Laddingtons, welcome back to good old Hellas. [00:00:04] Now I thought to take this opportunity to climb this epic statue of Seusbra, Lightning Zeus, and we have a good epic night here in the game. [00:00:20] I also thought to elaborate on something called historic fiction. [00:00:26] I will recommend a certain author called Harry Sidebottom, who is a historian who then turned to write historic fiction. [00:00:40] And I have said this before, I'll say it again. [00:00:42] I do believe that historic fiction is one of the best ways to get a good view of history, perhaps. [00:00:50] And the benefit obviously is that it's much more fun to read historic fiction than to just read a history book. [00:00:57] But then you can obviously read regular history books as well to gain a good understanding. [00:01:04] I will synchronize now and then I will recommend two orders, or three orders more. [00:01:16] Absolutely epic. [00:01:18] absolutely beautiful boom there we are And now comes the scary part. [00:01:35] I hope I won't die now. [00:01:36] This is the first time I do this in this game. [00:01:39] Right, we managed that. [00:01:43] Perfect. [00:01:45] Now, let us do the following. [00:01:49] Let us adapt to pay the big break. [00:01:57] Right, we'll head down there and yes, also I did lower the graphic settings because my good old computer was simply not up to par with the high demands of the game. [00:02:14] I actually looked at this computer I'm playing at now it's from 2012 so a lifetime ago. [00:02:23] The graphics card is a bit newer though. [00:02:25] It's a GeForce 1060. [00:02:28] So got that last year. [00:02:31] Now obviously I don't mind having a bit older computer when it comes to the gaming side of things but something I would say though is that when I render and edit training videos with high quality video clips that can be quite quite frustrating to say the least so yeah that is the computer situation. [00:02:53] So anyway I mentioned Harry Sidebottom. [00:02:57] I read a story about the Roman Empire in the 200s AD and there is a Germanic protagonist called Marcus Ballista. [00:03:09] So yeah good story right there. [00:03:15] I will continue after talking to this shipbuilder submate. [00:03:21] It's a fine ship telemenus. [00:03:23] Alexios she is that. [00:03:27] Ready to ride the waves for the rag captain and the right price I need to get off this island. [00:03:36] I really need a boat telemenus. [00:03:38] Everyone at Cafalonia needs a boat. [00:03:40] Four passes on one. [00:03:41] You've seen this shithole? [00:03:43] All my life. [00:03:44] Even if I had a boat, who's going to row it? [00:03:46] You? [00:03:51] This is Cafalonia. [00:03:52] I could always find someone down on their luck and willing to work for next to nothing to get off this island. [00:03:57] The seas are treacherous now. [00:03:59] Well, more than usual. [00:04:01] It would be suicide. [00:04:02] You're not being very helpful, Telemenus. [00:04:05] Not sure if this helps, but rumor has it the Cyclops is coming for you and Marcos. [00:04:13] Rumors don't scare me. [00:04:17] Exactly. [00:04:22] I'll have to pay Kleptus Bay a visit. [00:04:25] Be careful. [00:04:26] That one-eyed brute has a nasty temper. [00:04:31] Some general life advice. [00:04:32] If you hear a rumor, it's probably not true. [00:04:37] There's a distinct possibility that it's absolutely not true if you hear a rumor. [00:04:46] That was just a little side note. [00:04:50] So I was talking about Marcus Ballista, the Germanic, he's actually an angle from the Angle tribe, but he is fighting in the Roman army. [00:05:00] And yeah, the book is the book series is a few books, and they go around doing certain missions in the various Roman provinces. [00:05:17] So I can put up a picture of one of the books here on the screen so you can see what I'm talking about. [00:05:27] So that is one almost in this era. [00:05:31] 700 years, but 700 years later than where we're at right now. [00:05:36] But Rome and Greece similar enough, I suppose, to fit the bill. [00:05:43] So what I'm doing is usually if I'm playing a game such as this, I'd like to get in the mode in the mood even more by reading some historic fiction. [00:05:55] Yeah, Harry Sidebottom, a historian turned altar. [00:06:01] Well, most historians are altars as well, but you know, writing historic fiction. [00:06:08] So, can definitely recommend those books. [00:06:12] I can also recommend this place. === Highly Glorious Book Mention (05:08) === [00:06:21] Boom, there we are. [00:06:24] Yes, let's illuminate this bustad. [00:06:30] Congilden, I have mentioned him many times before. [00:06:34] I read a book from him in the summer about Persians and Spartans. [00:06:40] I will put this up on the screen here as well so you can see that is a highly glorious book, I would say, and not the typical. [00:06:51] I won't spoil anything, but, yeah, good book. [00:07:01] There is the... Cyclops. [00:07:12] Let him go now. [00:07:15] We have a boxing match on the hands. [00:07:44] Give it to me. [00:07:46] Never expect that. [00:08:06] I did not expect that at all. [00:08:08] That was a madcant maneuver indeed. [00:08:14] Missed that completely. [00:08:15] So, whoa, I have played a bit off the screen, so to speak, so I have a new armor. [00:08:23] But I just explored some of the island. [00:08:29] Whoop, I think we need to get out from here. [00:08:32] Otherwise, we'll get illuminated. [00:08:34] Now, there we are. [00:08:38] Nice spot a kick. [00:08:40] I hope you all admired that kick, by the way. [00:08:45] Hopefully, I won't die now. [00:08:49] Okay, power gaming mode on. [00:09:07] I will, um, ah, come on. [00:09:13] I think you will have to run away for a bit. [00:09:15] Come on, then, go up and come back. [00:09:20] Otherwise, I will die, and then I have died two episodes in a row. [00:09:25] That will be highly inglorious. [00:09:30] Yes, Connie Gilden, new book. [00:09:32] And my personal philosophy when it comes to Connie Gilden is that I always read all of his books. [00:09:39] Simple as that. [00:09:41] If you haven't read any of his books, that is definitely something you should do. [00:09:48] Then also, special mention to Bernard Cornwell. [00:09:51] Mentioned him before as well. [00:09:53] Not really this era, but he writes mostly about bridge history. [00:09:57] I just thought to mention that. [00:10:00] So I have that said. [00:10:01] Then, lastly, I have a recommendation, and that is Alexander God of War by Christian Cameron. [00:10:10] Now, Christian Cameron has written some other books as well during the earlier Greek period. [00:10:19] I can link them, or not link, but put them up here on the screen too, so you can see them. [00:10:24] I do suspect that the author is a bit of a liberal, though. [00:10:28] There are certain things which makes me which triggers my inner right-wing person or whatever you want to call it. [00:10:39] But good books, anyway. [00:10:40] I think Alexander God of War was really good, and the other books they were good enough, and they are quite well written, and you get a good feel of the Greek world. [00:10:57] So that was my book tips. [00:10:59] And if you don't already, if you aren't in the habit of reading, that's actually one of the best advice I can give to you if you for general life enjoyment. [00:11:15] Oh, sorry, that was a. [00:11:19] It was a goat. [00:11:20] I thought it was a dog. [00:11:23] I'm sorry, goat, that was extremely silly of me. [00:11:26] I will say a prayer for him too at a later point. === Stealth Attack Plans (03:31) === [00:11:29] But now we have this bustage to illuminate. [00:11:36] So also, I thought to mention another thing, and that is, I see a lot of comments and this is probably like the third time I mentioned this a lot of comments talking about the skin color of characters in this game. [00:11:48] But if you want to aim criticism at something, do it at the amount of female, female bandits. [00:11:58] That's something that is very historically inaccurate. [00:12:02] If something, if anything. [00:12:05] Now let's see here. [00:12:07] Boom. I had to do it. [00:12:16] Is this guy sleeping? [00:12:20] I'm doing his, I'm doing the Cyclops a favor by killing that, that individual who's sleeping on on guard duty. [00:12:27] If someone had done that in the Roman army, they would have been, well, killed. [00:12:33] Now let's see, I want to illuminate this guy. [00:12:51] Aha, I couldn't sneak up whoop. [00:13:01] Ah no, I caught fire as well. [00:13:03] Not good, not good at all. [00:13:08] Right, I edited quickly and we're back at it trying to engage power gaming mode now, and that means that this guy will have to die. [00:13:34] I'm going to see if I can make some sort of air assassination of him. [00:13:45] Boom, there we are. [00:13:46] And something fun to loot, too. [00:13:50] Nice. [00:13:58] ah someone's sleeping they should not have been doing that they paid he paid the ultimate price for neglecting his duties Is that actually the cyclops? [00:14:24] Yes it is. [00:14:25] Let's see if we can stealth attack. [00:14:32] yes go on mates get at him boys yes there we are of anarchy that is something we cannot have hello bruv i have freed you we shouldn't delay here any further even rats like these have friends on kephalonia === Heavy Blunt Dialogue (06:36) === [00:15:01] that is true my man don't worry mate i have i have this individual ah there's two uh two bosses here and the guy we saved was a bit of a mad cunt [00:15:31] I said, Ah, not again. [00:15:41] Not again. [00:15:42] That's absolutely ridiculous. [00:15:47] Okay, nice. [00:15:49] Hello mate Die unbeliever unbelievers are the worst. [00:16:12] Boom, there we are. [00:16:14] Absolutely glorious. [00:16:17] So, anyway, yet another thing I thought to just mention: I lament the fact that a lot of mainstream movies films aren't as glorious, but obviously, Gladiator. [00:16:32] Not Hellenic, but Roman film. [00:16:34] One of the greatest films of all time. [00:16:41] I haven't watched that in a very long time. [00:16:45] Maybe it's time for me to do so soon. [00:16:51] Beautiful film, indeed. [00:16:54] Alright, mate, let's get out over here. [00:17:03] I think we got some nice loot from the Cyclops too. [00:17:07] So I will have a kid after this dialogue, I suppose. [00:17:16] I can't thank you enough. [00:17:18] After spending most of my life at sea, it would have been absolutely shameful to drown in a bit of manners. [00:17:29] I am Varnavas, captain of the Adrestia. [00:17:33] Well, Varnavas, I'm pleased to meet you. [00:17:35] I'm Alexios, Mistyos by trade. [00:17:38] Oh, but you're much more than that, I'm sure. [00:17:43] What do you mean? [00:17:45] When they forced my head underwater, I prayed to the gods, and when they pulled it out, there you were. [00:17:55] I am the answer to your prayers. [00:17:59] You called, and I answered. [00:18:01] Many claim to have blood of the gods in their veins. [00:18:05] You're the first, I actually believe. [00:18:12] How did the fight start? [00:18:14] So, why were those men attacking you? [00:18:16] Oh, you know the people here. [00:18:18] No offense. [00:18:19] I tell them a tale of my last voyage, and the next thing I know, they're acting like a bunch of savages. [00:18:26] What tale could you tell that would make them so angry? [00:18:29] My last voyage, we found a man floating alone on a raft. [00:18:34] Before he passed, he told us a tale to make your blood run cold. [00:18:39] Something about a horrifying creature, ugly beyond description. [00:18:44] I mentioned the words, one-eyed monster. [00:18:48] Next thing I know, I'm drowning in a clay pot. [00:18:51] Yes, the cyclops tends to take that personally. [00:18:56] Alright, where art thou from, mate? [00:19:00] Where do you come from? [00:19:02] Everywhere, nowhere. [00:19:04] The Adrestia is my home. [00:19:06] But I was born in an olive grove in Mykonos. [00:19:09] I haven't stepped foot there since I left for the military. [00:19:12] So you're a soldier? [00:19:14] I was. [00:19:15] My brothers and I were captains in the Athenian fleet. [00:19:18] Until one night during a siege, Poseidon's fury destroyed our ships. [00:19:23] That was the night I saw it. [00:19:26] What did you see, mate? [00:19:29] It. [00:19:30] What did you see? [00:19:31] The sea god commands more than just the winds and the waves when he truly unleashes his temper. [00:19:39] I saw his beast, his murderous pet. [00:19:43] Few believe me, but this dead eye is a permanent reminder. [00:19:48] Punishment for looking on Poseidon's forbidden creature and living to tell the tale. [00:19:55] Hmm, but what creature might it have been? [00:19:58] Anyway, tell me about thy ship. [00:20:00] So you have a ship. [00:20:02] Of course. [00:20:03] Gods forbid I'd end up stuck in this place. [00:20:06] Where is it now? [00:20:08] Thanks to you, it's still in Sami Harbor, where I left it. [00:20:13] I could use thy help now. [00:20:16] Perhaps the fates brought us together after all. [00:20:19] I'm in need of a ship and a crew. [00:20:24] You saved my life. [00:20:25] It would disgust the gods to not offer it in return. [00:20:29] So that's a yes. [00:20:31] My ship, my crew, and my services are yours. [00:20:35] You truly aren't from around here. [00:20:38] Ha ha! [00:20:38] Gods know! [00:20:40] And I thank them for that! [00:20:42] Come now and see the Adrestia! [00:20:47] Wonderful. [00:20:49] Alright. [00:20:51] So let us go there. [00:20:54] But first, see what the crack is here. [00:20:58] Inventory. [00:21:02] We have a new Heavy Blunt Morningstar, rare heavy blunt. [00:21:07] Boom. [00:21:08] Let's go with that. [00:21:10] And then we have a new. [00:21:11] No, there's level 8, so we can't have that yet. [00:21:18] Alright, cool. [00:21:23] And I think I will actually do the following: that I will leave this episode right here, and I will simply do the following. [00:21:33] That I will see you in the next episode. [00:21:36] XXO.
