My channel's main focus is on self improvement, bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongman, culture, gaming, books, politics etc.
First of all, just give a short commentary on my match yesterday.
You didn't actually miss anything because I didn't announce anything.
I didn't want to talk about it before I've actually done it.
Because, you know, in previous endeavors, it's always been the case that you've been able to see my results in the gym.
And you know you've seen the results of my physique in the videos.
So I didn't want to talk about any performance without actually showing it first.
So that's why I saved this video after the competition.
So yeah, you can see the match and you know the performance right there.
And the reason for competing was also that I wanted to go up with the lads in my team to support them.
And then I thought, like, okay, cool, going up to Dublin might as well join the fray myself and get some experience, win-lose.
It would have been, you know, a level for me to just overcome that nervousness and everything.
And I gave everything I got and got the gold medal and victory.
But to be critical towards myself, as you need to be in order to progress, I was not the most impressed with my own performance because I know myself and you all know that I'm really strong and I used too much strength and too little technique.
Now I'm not uncomfortable with my technique.
I think my technique is quite good indeed, but since I'm more comfortable in my strength, I tend to use that instead.
So mental note to myself in coming times in order for me to progress, you know, win-lose, it's all about progression in my book, and that is to use more technique.
And I need to work a lot more on my cardio because I was quite dead after the competition, as it were, as my teammates will tell you.
So with that said, let me talk a bit about something that a video that I want to make since I made the prepare for war video.
Now, since day one, like always, always haven't forever I've said that you should lift and progress in the gym.
That's the basic you can't get away from that.
And now I've also added that you should have some sort of martial arts a few times at least, two, three times optimally, or if you prefer martial arts, more martial arts and then lift at least two times a week.
So you know you have to combine those two.
And to anyone, to any guys in Sweden who's watching this in and around the Stockholm area, I may or may not have a fun little thing coming up next summer.
And if you want to prepare for that, I suggest that you get a good, you know, familiarize yourself with sparring.
But I will announce that and give more details in a few months because it's next summer, so it's quite a long time.
But you know, if you want to prepare for that, either fucking way to the main point of this video, how do you best combine martial arts and gym?
For me, right now, as I said in a previous video, I train martial arts, you know, MMA, and the focus the last few weeks has been on the grapping part.
So I trained that three times a week.
I might add in more days as well.
And then I've trained, you know, with the weights five times a week.
And the best way to do it is to do the weights before training MMA.
Because when you go with the weights, the main priority is to progress, to give everything you have physically.
In MMA, it's more about speed, flexibility, technique, everything like that.
So you don't really need that much power when you're just training.
Obviously, I trained lightly the day before the competition for this Brazilian Jiutsu no gi.
But when it's just a regular training week, it won't affect you that much if you lift before, especially if it's only an hour of MMA training.
Now our sessions are two and a half hours, so that's a different game.
And I'm going with just you know a lighter session, some sizzle rows and some dips, maybe half an hour before MMA.
So I still have some energy for the two and a half hours of MMA.
But if it's only like one hour of ground game or stand-up or anything, you can have a longer session of lifting before.
Now, if you do it the other way around, if you lift afterwards, that is not as good of an idea because then you will spend a lot of energy and then you will have a really hard time progressing with the weights.
Now, if that's your preferred method of doing things for whatever reason, feel free to do so, but do not skip the gym.
And I'm not saying this because the weights are necessarily more important that you should keep them first, but it's the same relationship between deadlift and squats.
If you do deadlifts first, you can't really progress as well in the squats if you do them in the same session.
But if you do squats first and deadlift afterwards, you can still progress in the deadlift because deadlift is such a more heavy exercise.
And it's inverted when it comes to lifting and MMA.
So I suggest that you do the lifting before if you train on the same day.
Other than that, you can try to keep them separate so you get some sort of energy in.
Or if you have the case that the gym is at the same place, you could eat something, perhaps have some sort of shake with you, some fruit, eat it, and then go into MMA.
But my main point with the video is that get the lifting done first because that is dependent on your performance physically.
Whereas the martial arts is more dependent on your mind that you learn.
And then obviously it depends on what kind of session it is.
You could do a really hard MMA session with a lot of focus on the physical part and then do a lighter bodybuilding type session.
But you could not do a two and a half hours MMA session and then go in and perform in the big heavy compound movements.
Whereas on the other side you could perform even though you're tired in your muscles you can still perform in the MMA training because that's more dependent on other factors as well.
So I hope that was informative.
If you have any questions related to this comment below and I'll try to answer them and if there is a particularly interesting question I might make a follow-up video on it.
And yes I will make more videos from my martial arts training as well you know to keep the channel interesting because you've already seen me squat like 10 times already so I'm you know spicing up a bit.
