The Golden One - Marcus Follin - Mr Olympia and Modern Bodybuilding is an Abomination Aired: 2015-09-21 Duration: 04:13 === Modern Bodybuilding Abomination (04:00) === [00:00:12] Today I wanna elaborate a bit on modern bodybuilding since the Mr. Olympia competition was on this weekend. [00:00:18] And to keep it short, I think modern bodybuilding at the top level is an abomination. [00:00:23] And I say that because it is nothing to do with what I perceive as the beautiful things of the Temple of Iron. [00:00:29] Mr. Olympia has nothing to do with health, fitness or performance. [00:00:34] It is more about who can withstand the most amount of gear into their bodies without dying. [00:00:39] It is more about that aspect than actually training hard. [00:00:42] The guys at the top level don't need to hit the gym hard. [00:00:46] They need to be meticulous about their diet and they need to be meticulous about their gear intake. [00:00:51] That is what that competition is about. [00:00:53] Plus who can have the best genetics. [00:00:55] Now the genetics part you can't get away from. [00:00:57] That's just the way of life. [00:00:58] But that's not what I'm taking a stab at. [00:01:00] I'm taking a stab at that bodybuilding on the top level has has become this sort of really degenerated abomination from something that was once beautiful up until Frank Sane perhaps lost. [00:01:13] Frank Sane was a bit too big and a bit too dry in my opinion. [00:01:18] I prefer to have a higher body fat. [00:01:20] I think that looks more healthy and natural. [00:01:22] And realize this that there is nothing healthy, there is nothing aesthetic, there is nothing glorious about having 5% body fat. [00:01:28] And I suggest that no one has it. [00:01:30] I long for the fucking day when that ideal goes away. [00:01:33] And if I can be an inspiration and spread a message, it is the following. [00:01:37] Fuck that fucking level of shreddedness. [00:01:39] It is nothing to do with anything that is that is glorious for a man. [00:01:43] Because your health will take a stab. [00:01:46] And for me, the beauty of the gym, the beauty of a masculine physique. [00:01:50] Like no homo. [00:01:51] But that is also how you can perform with your body. [00:01:54] If you can't perform with your body and it's just for show, that is more a feminine quality. [00:02:00] Like I'm quite vain myself, but I realize that the masculine value is to perform and a more feminine value is to look pretty. [00:02:09] So if just for show, if you can't actually do anything with your body, that is for me not as glorious at all. [00:02:16] And if you look at the guys on the top levels of bodybuilding, they've also lost the sense of aesthetics completely. [00:02:23] Back in the day, when Frank Sane was around, they still had some sort of ideals. [00:02:28] They weren't too big. [00:02:29] They sure as hell didn't go around with these huge bellies that looked like a pregnant cow. [00:02:34] Now I'm not disrespecting anyone on the top level, but at the same time, I need to call out this shit whenever I see it, because it's not good role models for younger guys to say like, okay, cool, I want to be a bodybuilder. [00:02:47] And you have to realize that it's a competition about who can take the most gear. [00:02:51] You don't want to destroy your body and your life like that. [00:02:53] And no, I'm not saying that you should train to be healthy. [00:02:56] Like who the fuck wants that? [00:02:57] No, you want to be big and massive. [00:02:59] But what kind of price are you willing to pay for that? [00:03:01] Do you want your body to be completely fucking destroyed because you want some quick fucking gains? [00:03:06] No, obviously not. [00:03:07] So I hope that the current training in Mr. Olympia, you know, with his mass freaks, the bigger the better and the harder the better. [00:03:14] I hope that fucking goes away. [00:03:15] I'm really no fan of that at all. [00:03:17] It's nothing to do with fitness, health, performance and it's outright dangerous. [00:03:21] And I don't in any way want to be associated with that sort of bodybuilding. [00:03:25] So if you say like bodybuilding to me, yeah, it can mean a lot of things. [00:03:28] It can mean natural bodybuilding or strength training. [00:03:31] You build your body, you build your confidence, that is one thing. [00:03:35] Even bodybuilding with moderate amounts of gear that is also one thing. [00:03:38] Amateur competitions in bodybuilding that is also one thing. [00:03:41] But I'm not liking this sort of development where you need to be like 5% body fat to stand a chance because you will only fuck up your fucking hormonal system and you will feel like shit for 3 weeks or 3 months or 6 months before a fucking competition. [00:03:55] There is no way to live. [00:03:57] That is not something anyone should strive for ever. [00:04:00] So that is my beef with modern bodybuilding and especially with the professional level of it. [00:04:05] I don't want to be associated with that shit in any way whatsoever. [00:04:08] And that's also why I don't want to refer to myself as a bodybuilder even though I'm quite juicy.
