I thought to hang out with you all a bit in good old Italy, which is now the new Roman Empire rising.
Now as the inheritors of Rome, we're very respectful towards our former Romans.
However, we cannot abide blasphemous rebels.
So I'm just gonna start this episode off with doing like that.
Bomb bomb before we take the turn and see what might happen.
See if the former Romans want to take their lands back from us.
So, with that said, welcome back.
Always a pleasure doing these kinds of episodes.
And I've really been enjoying this campaign in particular because it started off quite quite.
I don't know really how to put it.
In the third episode, we were quite close to dying in all actuality.
So, and but we managed to turn that around and now we're having a quite stable position in Italia.
We're gonna try to expand to the hinterlands of Rome.
And there we saw the Western Romans.
Okay, there we are.
The Western Romans are moving, trying to reclaim their lost lands.
But we have a good few armies, and this episode I'm looking to expand even further.
Perhaps even take the whole of Italy.
Now we have the southernmost tip of Italy as an ally still since we liberated them.
So we can't get not yet at least.
And I would be loath to betray our true friends.
Okay, rebellion.
Noble birth, how quaint.
A matter of state.
Those are always fun.
Let's see what Arairic has.
Secret meetings.
Your loyal servants have brought you to the brought your attention that your rivals have been meeting in the shadows.
The only common cause that they could bring together is their hatred of you.
Okay, what do we do?
Kill them.
I don't have time for this.
Let's look at the politics.
Okay, we can have one more governor, but we don't have enough regents to do so.
Does anyone...
Oh, you can be a judge if you want.
And you can be an elder.
And you can be a companion.
And you can also be a companion.
And we see, we can look at what companion does.
Personal influence plus one influence per turn.
And recruitment cost minus five percent.
So that's really good to have these companions fill up with, you know, generals to make everything a bit cheaper.
And a wealth, obviously, also plus four percent all regions.
So that's really, really good.
And here also some perks.
And They get better as the higher up you come.
So here it's 3 plus influence.
So this must be to a family member.
Because we don't want the opposition party to have too many high influence characters.
Integrity, 5 plus commanded force, really good.
And upkeep, minus 6% all units.
So a family member with a huge army is supposed to be the high judge.
I didn't really understand all of these things when I started playing Attila, but I've played a good few hours of it now, so now I have a better understanding of the politics.
And as with many things, it gets more fun the more you do it.
Now we have a good few options.
I don't know where these guys will go.
Perhaps they will take Neapolis.
Perhaps they will take Tarentum.
What they have done though is they've left Travenna.
Which is fun.
I'm gonna see if we can do anything fun.
Misdirect army.
Perhaps they can cause them to stall in their advance.
Critical success, brilliant.
Thank you very much for that.
And I wonder what that might be.
If that's actually a some sort of siege artillery.
Could move this army down to Neapolis to better defend Postanites.
I suppose we have a chance there.
I do want Ravenna.
Verona might be a fun idea as well.
We can start by looking here.
Ah, we can assault them.
And let's go with the balance stands there.
And yes, for the sake of clarification, I am.
I only take the battles that might be might not be so clear.
Okay, Latin Chapel.
Which we can convert to an Aryan chapel.
So we're gonna repair you.
Cavalry stables.
Foi millin.
Yes, repair you.
Auditorium.
Can we convert you to anything fun marked stalls?
Public order.
Okay, let's repair you as well and repair you.
Cool.
And we have a little rebellion on our hands here.
Let's see if we can shut that rebellion down immediately so they don't recruit any more units.
Which might then so they don't end up taking a settlement.
That would be detrimental to what our empire gains.
Okay, cool.
So we've solidified our position in northern Italia.
Take on warriors there.
They don't want to slay those brave brave men.
Gonna have a rebellion in next turn as well, but I suppose we're more than able to hand it.
Okay, cool.
So now what we're gonna do is gonna take the champion rider one and then we're gonna move him.
No, we don't even have to move him.
Yeah, as soon as the cavalry stables are repaired, we're just going to recruit all of the cavalry with this general and then distribute the cavalry units among the among the other food from reserves Akragan Olive Merchant for Mirin.
Yes, please.
Yes, thank you very much.
So, then we have the choice to either move down with this army to meet this army, which could actually make for a rather cool field battle, except that it's in the woods, or we could take Ravenna and they could try to take our settlement.
And a settlement fight, a siege fight is always fun.
So we're gonna do that for the tribe.
Your High King, Vitericus.
Alright, gonna do like that.
And god, I wish we could hire some Onigars so we could take it in one turn.
But we don't have any true friends.
We don't have any Onigers.
In all actuality.
Okay, so what we're gonna do is change bush's positions here.
And do we want any mercenaries here?
They're quite low in upkeep, actually.
Only 115 for some gothic pikemen.
And pikemen obviously are really good at defending.
Very light.
Okay, no, we're gonna go with two of you and also recruit.
Oh yeah, this is our ultra good general.
I actually do want some range units even though we're missing out on two inexperience points.
But that's fine.
Okay, so what we're looking at now is probably defending from this army next turn.
Might even charge our high king there.
Let's see.
Enchan alright, I utilized a little edit there so that you could just see the quadians chasing off the rebels there.
So the quadians, as I said, they are true friends.
They know the value of having good quad development.
And for those who are unaware what quads is, it's the part of the leg.
Rebellion, yes.
Rebellion imminent again.
Okay, and as usual, I'm gonna go with minus 10 in influence for Vidimir because we want to keep Vitericus insanely strong influence there.
Alright, wonderful.
Okay, we have some Roman agents there.
Okay, this might actually be ah no!
The Alans, such a cheeky cunts, they've taken the settlement that was rightfully ours.
Alaric has leveled.
Let's see what you can do.
Authority.
Public order.
Oh, that's governed province.
So what we could do is actually later on if we want, we could disband this guy so that he returns to the available candidates and then transfer him to being a governor instead.
So I'm actually gonna go with that and hopefully do that.
But now I kind of need him as a general right there.
And what are you doing here, Romans?
Misdirect you again.
See if we can perhaps gain a level there.
It'd be glorious.
Ah!
Thank you.
Indeed, you are absolutely right.
Mystery army.
And we have ruined provisions also.
And that's what we're gonna say.
We have investigate corruption.
That's a really, really good one.
And we still have one turn to go there.
So we just have to calmly wait, I suppose.
What we should do, though, is just shut this little rebellion down as quickly as possible.
I really like those killing animations.
I'm gonna take on those brave warriors.
Look at that.
We're stuck in case we're just gonna go with want to keep them garrisoned as often as possible.
Alright, and cunning.
Boom.
Look at that.
Upkeep, minus 8%.
Really good.
Gonna go with some seal as well.
Alright, cool.
Let us, true friends, take the turn.
And God, the Romans are just falling like bricks there.
What I do want also is try to expand.
Oh.
God.
Forgot to repair this.
I do want to expand, perhaps take Carthage.
We're gonna look at the possibility of recruiting some units there.
And yeah, expand down there.
So let's simply take the time.
Alright, utilize that quick little editor until this happened.
And every time I get a diplomatic offer, I am looking at the possibility of demanding more from them.
So trade agreement, obviously, really good.
Military access, also good to have.
Then we can't really do anything more there, so it's still high.
So we're gonna look at increasing the amount of gold, but they have a weak economic power, so I can't really push it too farther.
Propose offer.
Boom, accept.
Thank you, Septimania.
Right, we have a rebellion there.
Rebellion there as well.
And we had someone who was ready to be promoted.
You can be promoted.
And let's see your companion there.
and here's our family.
I'm gonna look through the different candidates here and you see if anyone can.
No, no one really can...
Alright, and these guys...
Why aren't you doing anything?
Misdirect again and see if we can Level even more Opportune failure.
Hmm.
Father be praised.
Just gonna shut these guys down.
gone they run quite far into the forests Much like good old Sparkagus who ravaged this land in our rebellion.
A few hundred years prior to the events of this time.
Ah, always nice to level.
What do we have?
Integrity.
I want to go with Cunning to keep down the upkeep.
Public order.
Wonderful.
Thank you very much for that.
They have garrisoned themselves there.
What we're gonna do, we're gonna take Ravenna now.
Boom.
Boom.
And then we're just gonna surround the other army and annihilate it.
Then we have properly secured Italia.
Occupy you.
Wonderful.
Thank you very much for that.
Repair you.
Trade Yetis?
Yes.
And Reservoir.
Yes.
Alright, wonderful.
Can't really do much more considering our economic position.
Don't really have any more money.
But what we could do is simply go down and take this settlement for the tribe.
Boom.
And we'll escape.
Wonderful.
Now we can start a little expansion there as well.
I am wondering if we could just go in and take that settlement or if we perhaps need some more units.
The public order is quite low though, so I'm gonna stay there for another turn or so so I don't expand too quickly and get too many rebellions and get eaten from within as it were.
And these guys might obviously be needed.
Okay, so here's the plan.
Take one more turn, recruit some more units in this army and then go down to Cartago and take that and turn.
Ah, okay, nice, nice.
You're a governor, so which means construction cost minus public order can be really useful though.
So we're gonna go with more authority there.
Nice.
Athalric is also governor.
Wealth.
It's really good, but I'm gonna try to get this as soon as possible.
Ah, look at that.
well from immigration now all righty then True friends.
Would you look at that?
We have been attacked by the Romans.
And this might actually be a fun fight to take.
You see, we are outnumbered there, so we can't out-resolve it.
We are outnumbering them.
And we have a lot of solid units.
We have the cohorts, which should slaughter their Western Auxilia Palatina.
They have a little garrison army, but yeah, I don't suppose they can threaten us in any way here.
But we're gonna take it either way.
The balance of power showed us another thing completely, so it might be fun to see what might happen in this fight.
So what we are working with is four units of slingers and a lot of melee infantry and a lot of pikemen.
They don't really have anything to threaten us, so I suppose this should be easy.
Alright, wonderful.
What can we do here?
We're gonna go with this formation, except that you go there, gothic pikemen go there and there.
And then we're gonna respond to what the enemy might do.
So we're gonna look at the army.
We haven't really had any fights in this series campaign.
This is a worthy enemy.
Fading Loriqua, love it.
Ah, look at this.
These are our gothic Roman.
Gothic Romans.
Fuck, I love it.
Alright, speed up the gameplay a bit.
I'm gonna edit now until the enemy appears.
I speeded the gameplay up and I was actually taken by surprise there because they came out of the fog out of nowhere.
So they got one of our slinger units there.
Which was rather silly of me, I suppose.
I'm gonna withdraw these guys so that they don't die.
And we're going to try to keep the mercenary, Germanic, and the bowmen away from us.
Warriors of Christ!
And the battle plan is trying to get around with as much as we got look at that!
Our pikemen got severely owned there.
Alas, our cohorts will take the revenge there.
And as usually if I'm not that talkative, it's simply because I'm trying to win the battle.
I'm always a bit hesitant to commit the general, because I don't want him to die.
However, their general is a different matter.
Alright, the men are broken and are fleeing.
God, our units get owned there, and I've positioned these guys quite favorably to take out their general.
If we can do such a glorious thing.
Should have put this in testudo mode.
They don't want you in close combat, obviously.
want you to stand there warriors all right then we have broken their general Quaint For the Savior
Alright, cohorse, can we get okay?
They have another general there.
quaint, will perish their hearts.
The enemy refuses to admit defeat!
Their unit has rallied!
Glory to Makedon!
Alright, nice.
Guys have a rally and get in there Proud men of the north, trying to get as many rear charges as possible.
Okay, they have some Sagittarii there.
How quaint.
This battle was more even than I thought.
I did not anticipate this at all.
Okay, quickly now get behind them.
And they're out of ammo.
How unglorious.
How inglorious, I mean.
Speaking of which, Inglorious Vastach, a really, really horrible movie, actually.
I watched like 20 minutes of it before I turned it off because it was so obvious, like the Germans with the bad guys as usual, like in every American film regarding the Second World War.
Really, really don't like those kind of unnuanced films.
It's really uninteresting when it's so black and white.
Gothic Pykemen!
If you guys get out of those boys, and we're gonna try to save our...
Might be too late to save our Pykemen there, and our general is out on very thin ice.
There I am, I'm afraid.
Alright, cool.
Blood in battle, stand firm proud men of the north.
Yes, and you station yourself there.
No, don't break, damn you.
Do not break at all.
For glory! I love the war shouts.
Love it.
Okay, let's see our general pairs.
Okay, cool.
They've broken there.
Let's look at the action for a second.
I always neglect to do that.
Ah, there he is.
Brave general.
Oh, look at that.
Foi!
Mirin.
Mirin gloriousness.
Okay, really tight battle, which is why I don't want to stay for too long in the cinematic mode, as it were.
Do not run, you bleeding cowards.
Oh, God.
Fucking traitors.
Yes, turn around, turn around, turn around.
Get those spikes down men Why are you running?
Our general is still alive and well.
This was a bloody battle indeed.
A very bloody battle.
Which is which is fun.
Like it.
getting around with this unit.
Go on then, get out of them boys.
Yes, come on and get into the Testudo, damn you.
Fuck.
Ah, wonderful.
Some more of you.
Quickly now we got to save the general a very tight battle indeed Very tight battle.
Okay, cool.
Let's finish these guys off now.
Death and glory.
Now, the worst thing that could happen is if our general dies or if any of these units break.
Oh, come on now, click quickly now.
Hurry up, men.
Come on now Yes And the last one's there.
Come on now.
Yes.
Wonderful.
I'm just gonna round these guys up, so we can take more as, not prisoners, but take on warriors.
All right then.
Wonderful.
Wonderful.
End battle.
Pyrrhic victory.
Yes indeed, it was quite, quite purrick actually, but...
But it was enough for a victory.
And now we can take on warriors and hopefully take the settlement.
If God in heaven will sit.
9% unit replenishment.
Oh, look at that.
They moved in directly in the settlement.
Did not know that they actually did such a thing.
Alright, cool.
I think that was a worthy battle to conclude this glorious episode.
And obviously, I'm aware that I could have probably have managed that battle a bit better, I suppose.
But yeah, it's easy to be wise in retrospect.
Just gonna look through what the plan is.
Oh, look at that.
Visors gained.
And just before I end this episode, we're just gonna repair all of these things.
Okay, cool.
So we've made some land games god, I want to take the that settlement the last thing I do.
But I'm gonna save that for next episode.
So what we have done today is taken three big settlements, Medulanum, Ravenna and Aquea Sextii.
Not sure how you pronounce that at all.
And we've loaded up with an army here, which will take Cartago next town.
