The Tucker Carlson Show - Bill O'Reilly Reacts to His Viral Freak Out Aired: 2023-11-09 Duration: 08:56 === Going Live (01:52) === [00:00:00] I have to add, I just can't resist, and I don't mean this as a criticism because I actually love it, but the most famous video on the internet is you shot off camera in a previous job before five. [00:00:12] What am I doing? [00:00:13] Going live? [00:00:14] You're going live. [00:00:15] We'll do it live. [00:00:16] Okay. [00:00:16] Look. [00:00:17] We'll do it live. [00:00:20] Do it live. [00:00:21] I'll write it and we'll do it live. [00:00:25] Thing sucks. [00:00:26] I was in Iceland and I had some gnome come up to me and go, you're the going live guy. [00:00:33] I said, what? [00:00:34] I'm in Iceland. [00:00:36] That was in Reykjavik? [00:00:37] Yeah. [00:00:38] And it's all over the world. [00:00:40] I mean, there are Japanese guys going, live guy. [00:00:43] I mean, it's ridiculous. [00:00:45] So I'm on Inside Edition and they can't tape it every two minutes. [00:00:52] They go, oh, we didn't get the audio. [00:00:55] Oh, you were out of frame. [00:00:57] Oh, there's a giant glob on your ear. [00:01:00] And they couldn't get it taped. [00:01:02] So finally, Irish guy went, all right, we'll do it live. [00:01:07] F it. [00:01:08] Do it live. [00:01:10] I'll write it and we'll do it live. [00:01:13] F ⁇ ing thing sucks. [00:01:16] And there it goes everywhere. [00:01:20] Exactly what happened. [00:01:21] Thank you. [00:01:22] You're welcome. [00:01:22] I've wondered about that. [00:01:24] But here's what people don't understand about television news. [00:01:28] It's like professional football, the NFL. [00:01:32] If you are a talent, both Carlson and I are a talent. [00:01:36] That's what they call us because we're on television. [00:01:41] You have to beat the shows that are up against you. [00:01:45] Right? [00:01:46] So when I was at Inside Edition, I had to beat Wheel of Fortune or whoever I was competing in. === Advice Only When Asked (07:03) === [00:01:52] Right. [00:01:53] Okay. [00:01:53] Or at least come close. [00:01:56] You have to beat the other team. [00:01:59] And if you do meet them, like you did and I did, then you're rewarded with money. [00:02:06] Not love, not loyalty, money. [00:02:10] It's a pure play. [00:02:12] So when personnel changes, then it's all thrown into chaos. [00:02:19] So Tom Brady leaves the New England Patriots, right? [00:02:23] Yeah. [00:02:24] The entire dynamic of the organization changes. [00:02:28] Now, some might say for the better, some might say for the worse, but it's totally different without Tom Brady. [00:02:34] But here's where the analogy breaks down. [00:02:35] The Patriots didn't fire Tom Brady the minute he won the Super Bowl and then denounce him as a sex criminal or a racist. [00:02:42] So why would you fire the guy in your case, for example, who had dominated the space, was continuing, still number one? [00:02:49] Like that just seems acting against interest. [00:02:51] Like why would you ever fire the top guy? [00:02:53] Matt Lauer actually asked me that question. [00:02:56] Yeah, good question. [00:02:57] Okay, and he asked me it on the Today show in a kind of haughty way. [00:03:03] I said, it was business. [00:03:04] Pride goeth before the fall. [00:03:06] So I never asked them why they did what they did, ever. [00:03:11] But why attack them? [00:03:12] But listen to me for a minute. [00:03:13] This is important. [00:03:14] I never asked them why they did what they did. [00:03:17] I accepted it. [00:03:19] Okay. [00:03:19] And then, as I said, we got the contracts in order. [00:03:23] But at the time, they were trying to buy Sky News. [00:03:29] And the Sky Operation runs all the soccer in Europe. [00:03:34] Huge money-making. [00:03:36] Oh, yeah. [00:03:36] All right. [00:03:37] News Corp trying to buy them. [00:03:39] The British regulators were giving them an awful hard time for a number of reasons. [00:03:46] And in my mind, I thought that might have something to do with it. [00:03:50] But I have to tell you this honestly. [00:03:52] I didn't care. [00:03:54] I had been there for 20 years. [00:03:56] It was time for a change. [00:03:58] When I started cable news, it was nothing, but I knew it was going to be huge. [00:04:04] And then I said, you know what's going to be the next huge alternative independent media. [00:04:09] Yes. [00:04:10] And I just scampered on over to it. [00:04:12] I think there was a week, only a week before I started billoreilly.com. [00:04:17] We already ended up and running as a news operation. [00:04:20] I took a number of people from Fox with me, good people. [00:04:23] And to this day, it's been six and a half years. [00:04:26] It's the most successful independent news agency in the world. [00:04:30] But so you didn't spend any time locked in your bedroom with a bottle of vodka at all? [00:04:35] No, I don't drink. [00:04:36] I'm too boring to drink. [00:04:38] That's why I don't drink. [00:04:41] I don't think feeling sorry for yourself is a good use of anybody's time. [00:04:48] I accepted the situation, which is the key to life. [00:04:51] I knew I wasn't going to change it, right? [00:04:54] They made a decision. [00:04:54] They made a decision. [00:04:56] So why am I going to brood about it? [00:04:59] I mean, a lot of Irish guys brood. [00:05:00] Yes, yes. [00:05:01] It's a brooding island. [00:05:03] It is. [00:05:03] But I'm not really a brooder. [00:05:05] I'm like, okay, that happened. [00:05:08] The concern I was for my children. [00:05:10] I protected my children as best I could, and I succeeded on that, I think. [00:05:15] But for me, it was now we're going to do this, and we're going to make this sing. [00:05:20] And we have. [00:05:22] Amazing. [00:05:22] So you lost no time? [00:05:24] None. [00:05:25] None. [00:05:26] In fact, I was writing books. [00:05:27] I was doing radio. [00:05:28] I mean, my radio franchise stayed right where it was. [00:05:32] Nothing happened there at all. [00:05:34] Nothing happened in publishing. [00:05:36] I mean, you know, Killing the Witches is the 13th killing book. [00:05:40] There was no interruption in that. [00:05:41] The only interruption was on cable news. [00:05:44] And so I went to another news forum. [00:05:46] How did you keep yourself from getting bitter, though? [00:05:49] I'm just bitter about everything anyway. [00:05:51] So that's your easy default. [00:05:53] Yeah, I was like, oh, how much more bitter can I get? [00:05:56] I'm just bitter 24-7. [00:05:59] I have what they call an edge to me. [00:06:02] All right. [00:06:03] And so, but again. [00:06:06] Where's that from? [00:06:07] Levittown. [00:06:08] You know, after World War II, the baby boomers, 100 kids, and if they didn't like you, it was like, okay, here we go. [00:06:16] No kicking, though. [00:06:17] We had rules at Levittown. [00:06:18] No kicking. [00:06:19] Brawling, couldn't kick. [00:06:20] So it was pre-UFC. [00:06:22] Yeah. [00:06:23] No tattoos at that time. [00:06:25] But anyway, I have a philosophy for life that I've developed. [00:06:29] And I stick to it in that discipline. [00:06:33] I don't go to a psychiatrist because why drive them crazy? [00:06:37] You know, that's not fair to the psychiatrist. [00:06:39] If I would walk in, I don't do any of that. [00:06:42] You know, I think I'm here for a reason, put on the planet for a reason. [00:06:46] I'm trying to be an honest guy, and I make everybody that I work for money. [00:06:51] But you know what? [00:06:52] The greatest thing is? [00:06:53] I'll never work for anybody again. [00:06:55] I run my own show now. [00:06:57] So is that the future? [00:06:58] I mean, what is it? [00:06:59] You said you worked everywhere in television. [00:07:02] Right. [00:07:03] Like, what is the future of cable news? [00:07:04] What is the future of news? [00:07:06] Cable news will be there. [00:07:07] Yeah. [00:07:08] But it's like the network news. [00:07:10] I mean, when's the last time you said you heard somebody say, wow, did you see that on Nora O'Donnell? [00:07:15] When was the last time you heard somebody say that? [00:07:17] I don't think I ever have. [00:07:18] No. [00:07:18] No. [00:07:19] But when Cronkite was there, and Rather and Broca and Jennings, there was juice. [00:07:27] Yeah, it was a real thing. [00:07:29] So cable will stay where it is. [00:07:32] And Fox will win, by the way, because Fox has better talent. [00:07:36] Fox wins, not because of this ideological, although they have an advantage because traditional Americans have nowhere else to go except Newsmax. [00:07:45] But Fox has better talent. [00:07:47] The talent's better. [00:07:49] And that's it. [00:07:50] So people gravitate toward talent. [00:07:54] I trained Waters, Jesse Waters. [00:07:56] I trained him. [00:07:57] Okay? [00:07:58] So whether you like him or not, he's talented, for sure. [00:08:02] Hannah's talent. [00:08:04] Hannity's talented. [00:08:05] He can deliver a broadcast. [00:08:06] Did you give Jesse advice before he started? [00:08:09] I only give advice when people ask me. [00:08:11] So you yourself have never asked me for advice. [00:08:14] But that's totally false. [00:08:16] I asked some advice. [00:08:19] No, that is totally what I took over. [00:08:22] I waited in the ante-room of your office. [00:08:25] Yes, I did. [00:08:26] In fact, Ailes told me, go kiss O'Reilly's ass. [00:08:28] That's the first thing I did. [00:08:29] A man never stands so tall as when he stoops to kiss an ass. [00:08:33] What did I tell you? [00:08:36] You said it's a very treacherous business. [00:08:38] Mind your own business. [00:08:40] Just stay in your own lane. [00:08:42] Do your thing. [00:08:42] Okay. [00:08:43] I thought that was good advice. [00:08:44] Yes, it was. [00:08:44] Okay. [00:08:45] I'm sorry, but I'm old now. [00:08:46] So I forget things. [00:08:48] Right. [00:08:48] What's your name again? [00:08:53] You'll hear people say the news is full of lies.
