	So again, what I'm finding out now is these are state representatives and they're asserting their right that they have every right to go in and see what's going on here and they're blocking us from now from going in.
	So we've asked to talk to somebody.
	They're going to bring somebody out here.
	So that's what we're waiting on right now.
	...our state prisons without providing notice, but also to visit our municipal detention facilities as well as...
	It's very clear in the Florida law and what's also been made very clear by the state administration is that this is a state facility.
	And I make it clear that the officers, the captains, they all know the rules and they know the statute.
	This is just what the political games that we're looking at.
	I think it is important that we really bring out the importance of the $450 million that is being spent on this facility.
	And I do not want people to get it twisted.
	This is not federal funds that we're speaking of.
	I want taxpayers to understand that you're talking about $450 million of your money that the state, the legislature has now approved, I mean excuse me, the governor has approved without even going to the state legislature for approval.
	And I want to also say this.
	We're not only here because we have the right, but this is our job.
	We have the oversight ability to look and see what is going on.
	And so there are concerns that when we talk about it being inhumane, that there are questions that need to be answered.
	There are questions that, one, we want on the record who's responsible for this.
	We want on the record, are the toilets working?
	We want on the record how people are sleeping.
	What's the mosquito repelling?
	I mean, there are several questions.
	How are people being able to access their family members and knowing where they're at?
	There are actual due process issues that are happening.
	So right now in the United States of America, and I want to level set with folks, in the United States of America, we have a makeshift detention center.
	Many folks are calling it concentration camps, internment camps, but you have a place where people can easily be disappeared and nobody knows what's going on.
	Nobody's able to have access to that.
	But yet we're supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave.
	Do any of you have any idea how many people are in here or so?
	I don't know, but what I want to say is yesterday they rolled out the red carpet for reporters.
	And now, as elected officials who have oversight, who have constitutional oversight, now they want to block us and tell us we can't come in.
	We have to do it.
	We simply want to make sure that they're treating people humanely.
	That's all.
	For the record, that was very selective.
	Not everybody was allowed in.
	Well, a lot of their cronies, the ones that report correctly.
	Well, this is the problem.
	Excuse me, the reason why the state law is written in the way that gives us the right as lawmakers to make visits to these detention facilities without providing notice is it gives us the opportunity to see how these facilities are actually run.

	I don't want to give you notice and I don't have to give you notice because that's going to give you an opportunity to get rid of all of the flooding that's happening, to mop up the floors, to clean things up and tidy things up so that things look different than they actually are.
	We want to see what this facility looks like.
	Yes, on day one, because they did a big ribbon cutting on the day that President Trump was here.
	And while they were making that announcement on day one that they're ready to take in detainees, many of whom probably didn't break any laws and have committed no crime.
	And have no access to counsel right now.
	Yeah, as they were doing that, the floodwaters were coming in to the facility.
	Can somebody just respond to the Attorney General's tweet that they better get on an airboat?

	So here's my thing.
	I welcome an airboat because if that means we're able to have access into this facility, first off, one, you're admitting that it's not humane.
	It's unfit.

	Number two, you're admitting that it's inhumane.
	But number three, if that's the way that we need to get in here, so be it.

	And the issue becomes, and I think Representative Ashcomani pointed this out, we spent $400 million, and Senator Jones, you spent $450 million.
	They were able to stand this up in two weeks.
	Two weeks.
	Two weeks, but yet people can't afford their property insurance.
	People in my district still have tarps on their homes.
	People are having housing issues, food issues.
	School programs are getting cut.
	They're not fully funding public schools.
	This is what I know.
	You can do the things that you want to do when you want to do that.
	You are able to stand this facility up and do that, but we're not able to take care of everyday Floridians and use their money wisely as they sent us up to Tallahassee to do.
	So guess what?
	Keep saying the $450 million is FEMA money, that it's federal money.
	It's not.
	Yeah, we just found out that it's not going to be FEMA money.
	It's actually state dollars.
	They did not approve it yet.
	And so that's coming out of the money that should go to programs for our students.
	Again, as I stated earlier, they are shutting down schools in Duval County.
	And yet and still, you want to open up a facility that we are not getting the money back for.
	I just want to add to this too, that the state of emergency is illegitimate at this point.
	The crossings of the border have dramatically declined.
	This is the same order from 2023.
	There has not been other incidences of individuals showing up in the keys seeking asylum.
	And so the fact that this emergency makes me okay guys, Christopher Key here live reporting outside of Alligator Alcatraz, where basically what is happening here, we've got the state representatives.
	It looks like we've got two senators here and they're being not allowed in.
	And again, we have every right to enter this facility at any time, but they're not letting us in.

	So ma'am, what I can tell you at this point is because literally I am the law enforcement here and I was asked to come down here and talk to you.

	And what I was told to come down here and discuss with you is right now we have begun operations.

	can i read the statute to you and you tell me what doesn't make sense okay so i'm actually going to read yeah there's two different statutes but i think the second one's actually more relevant this is 951.225 and so it reads persons authorized to visit county and municipal detention facilities the following persons who are elected or appointed to serve the county municipal in which the county municipal detention facility is located may visit such facility at their pleasure and then it lists different bodies including members
	of legislature and then 944.23 actually may be more relevant to visit the false state correctional Institutions, which are inclusive of detention centers, which would be inclusive of juvenile detention centers, this type of detention center, the governor, all cabinet members, authorized representatives of the commission, state courts, public defenders, members of the legislature.
	It is a shall, it is not a may.
	This is not a permissive statute.
	It is actually a mandatory statute.
	So here's my position.
	You can share this with whomever you want to share this with.
	There is legal strategy that is being prepared right now that if you deny us access, that there will be legal repercussions and actions taken because this is a shall, it is not a may, it is not a might.
	It is a shall provide access to us.
	And I don't mean to get hyphy, but we are lawmakers.
	And at the end of the day, we all love to say we're a law and order state.
	So we're going to follow the law.

	So this place used to, And it was construction was halted because of public outcry.
	So this has basically been used as a training facility for pilots because one airstrip was built, but no edification beyond that.
	Pretty largely, honestly, mostly abandoned for some training flights.
	So, okay, the airstrip, one landing field, they're doing training here.

	Yeah, and basically, you know, there have been negotiations between Miami-Dade County, which is the adjacent county, and the state government to sell it to the state government for conservation purposes because this became what it is now, the Big Cypress Ecological Reserve.
	And did this facility appraise for how many millions of dollars you said?
	The property is appraised $195 million.
	Almost $200 million.
	And then about three weeks ago, I think June 24th, the Attorney General of Florida announced that they were going to commandeer the land to build a detention camp for immigrants.
	And they basically ceased it using an emergency decree that DeSantis issued in January of 2023.
	And they just ceased it from Miami-Dade County and commandeered it to build this detention facility.
	And this detention facility was built in how many days and it cost how much money?
	Well, it was built in about a week.
	Okay, a week.
	It's unsure how much money it cost.
	But for example, one vendor alone, one vendor, and you've seen how many vendors we've seen so far today, got a $20 million no-bid contract.
	$20 million no-bid contract.
	And it is estimated that this facility is going to cost $450 million per year to operate.
	And that's state funds.
	And remember, we're about to go on a budget deficit here in Florida because we've had out-of-control fiscal spending.
	We're projected to have a $2.8 billion deficit next year because of our bloated government here.
	And FEMA actually, the federal government said that they're not going to put funds here, that this is going to be on the state to operate and fund.
	Okay, in closing, we've got Senator Jones here, correct?
	We have Senator Jevren Jones, Representative Anascamani, Representative Angie Nixon, Representative Michelle Raynor, and Senator Carlos Hillmo-Smith.
	And they're all being denied access, and they've cited two statutes that I heard them read that basically says that they have the ability to show up at any time unannounced.
	And they do this so that they can make sure bad things aren't happening.

	It is also concerning that there are human beings, detainees in here, that if it's unsafe for us to be in here, how is it safe for them to be present?
	When we attempted to ask all of those questions to FDEM, their general counsel, and their legislative affairs director, we were summarily hung up on and told to email them.
	So, you know, like this is America right now, and everyone should be concerned that this is happening, regardless of your legal status, your citizenship status, or your politics.
	You should be concerned that there's a facility in the United States, in the state of Florida, being funded with taxpayer money and that nobody can go in.
	We have no idea what's happening.
	Representative Escamani asked, okay, if we can't go in, can we go to the front?
	We were told no.
	So what is happening in there that we are not able to even have access to view the front of the facility?
	We were told it just became operational.
	Okay, if it's operational, we should be able to go in.
	And so it is concerning that this is what is happening in this country.
	It should be concerning to every Floridian.
	It should be concerning, quite frankly, to every American, because regardless of your status, it does not, this could not and should not be happening.
	And I believe, and I think we all can agree, that what's happening in there is more than likely inhumane.
	It's more than likely cruel.
	We've seen pictures of flooding.
	We've seen pictures of we've been out here in the rain.

	So if this is happening to us, I can't imagine what's happening to them.
