Special Counsel Robert Mueller has obtained a letter that President Trump and his top political aide drafted in the days before firing FBI Director James Comey.
Now, the New York Times says that this letter explains the rationale behind President Trump's decision to fire the director.
Now, the New York Times doesn't report on the contents of that letter that actually has not been released, so there's really no telling whether or not Trump's rationale for firing James Comey was due to his focus.
on the Russia investigation.
Or if he felt as though Comey botched the investigation into Hillary Clinton.
Much more likely to be the case.
Now, we know that Robert Mueller is conducting this wide-ranging investigation into Russia and associates of Mr. Trump.
He's now even bringing the IRS in.
And he's doing this investigation to find out whether or not the president obstructed justice when he dismissed the FBI director.
But what happens when the FBI director himself...
Now, the New York Times failed to mention a letter that was sent to the present FBI director from Senators Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham.
Now, this was sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray on August 30th, and it expresses some concern over unredacted portions of transcripts from the special counsel's interview with then-director Comey's chief of staff and the...
Now, they had been interviewed by the special counsel.
They were part of the investigation into whether or not James Comey's actions in the Clinton investigation violated the Hatch Act.
Now, shockingly, what the senators have actually found, based on these unredacted portions of the transcripts, is that in April or early May of 2016, Mr. Comey had already decided that he would issue a statement exonerating Secretary Clinton.
This is very key here, because according to these interviews, according to these transcripts, the statement was drafted to get a...
Get out of the curve.
Just be kind of forward-thinking because they knew where the investigation was headed.
He was drafting this statement because he knew where the investigation was going.
Here's why this is key.
That was long before FBI agents actually finished their work.
It was prior to interviewing 16 key witnesses with direct knowledge of Clinton's use of a private server.
This was even before the FBI interviewed Hillary Clinton herself.
James Comey is out drafting this letter saying, oh, well, I'm going to go ahead and exonerate Hillary Clinton.
Let's start working on the draft.
We know where this is headed.
He even circulated an early draft statement to select members of senior FBI leadership.
So this is while FBI agents are hard at work doing their job trying to investigate Hillary Clinton and her use of private servers and the destruction of records with deleting those emails and using BleachBit.
And so the senators point out how he is basically prejudging the outcome of the investigation While FBI agents, the lower level FBI agents, are still hard at work trying to gather all the facts.
Now, Mr. Comey's final statement acknowledged that there is evidence of potential violations of the statutes regarding the handling of classified information.
But ultimately, he cleared Secretary Clinton, remember, because there was no intent or obstruction of justice.
She didn't mean to speed officers.
She just did it because she didn't think she was going to get caught.
She was painted as this reckless grandma who didn't know any better.
But, I mean, obviously she knew well enough to create her own private homebrew server so she could avoid the prying eyes of the people.
Now, right around the time that Comey began drafting this exoneration letter, there was evidence of destruction of emails by Clinton and her staff that were known to be under subpoena by the House of Representatives.
But Comey, just go ahead and keep on drafting this letter.
They also point out how the Justice Department entered into To these highly unusual immunity agreements with Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson in June 2016. This was after Comey began drafting that exoneration statement.
And they also don't let Comey off the hook for the fact that part of this immunity deal allowed for the destruction of the laptops, which contain the evidence.
So they said there's just no explanation has ever been given for why they were allowed to destroy this evidence that hadn't been completely reviewed.
It makes no sense.
So now the Senate committee on the judiciary wants those letters.
Unredacted.
They want the full thing.
They think it's in the public's interest to know.
They say it is vital to see what's under those redactions to assess Mr. Comey's testimony before Congress.
We need to have some justice in this country, and we definitely need to shine the light on the fact that the FBI director was totally compromised.
He was totally corrupt.
That is why President Trump fired him.
Many people have been calling for Comey to be fired for those exact reasons.
It has nothing to...
to do with Russia.
