It's been a very big week for ideological diversity.
On the one hand, we've got Google firing an employee who dared to step outside of groupthink.
And on the other, we've got the ACLU standing up for right wing provocateurs.
A widely circulated diversity memo written by a Google employee made waves on the internet.
The 10-page assessment argued that it's biological differences between males and females that could explain the lack of women in engineering roles, not sexism.
The employee was basically making the argument that hiring applicants based on gender and ethnic diversity would spell absolute doom for Google, that they should focus on hiring those with the most talent.
Now, James Damore says he felt compelled to write this lengthy paper after sitting through diversity training that just didn't sit well with him.
Damore argued that Google's leftist bias had created a PC monoculture that shames dissenters into silence.
Damore was promptly fired for his thought crimes.
Proving his assessment was correct.
Google has a diversity problem of the ideological kind.
And this is very dangerous when we're talking about the most powerful company in the world when it comes to controlling information.
Now, another former employee has come forward as well, saying that he personally witnessed leftists within Google suppressing anything non-PC from search results.
This former employee told Breitbart it's only a matter of time before Google begins to bias its search results against the Trump movement, Republicans, and right-leaning politicians.
As we've documented, when it comes to YouTube, which is owned by Google, that time has already come.
And unfortunately, those media outlets that are supposed to be the bastions of free speech aren't We're not doing much better.
Many reported on this Google manifesto hoping you wouldn't actually read it for yourself.
They just hoped you'd accept their take that it was a sexist rant arguing women weren't biologically fit for tech.
But there's another battle over the First Amendment brewing.
Airbnb has actually quietly canceled the bookings and accounts of users that appear to be connected with the Unite the Right rally.
This is an upcoming event in Virginia, and according to the group's Facebook page, the event seeks to unify the far-right wing and affirm the rights of Southerners and white people to organize for their interests.
Now, it was apparently concerns from users that prompted Airbnb to revoke these accounts, citing their community commitment.
Now, this is a commitment that requires users to accept people regardless of race, religion, national origin, and other identifiers.
The idea being that this particular rally doesn't fit in with that commitment.
But it's confusing because that's exactly why Airbnb canceled their reservations and accounts.
It's just the most bizarre world of doublespeak that we're living in.
Would they have done the same, canceling the counts of a black nationalist event or a Black Lives Matter rally?
I don't think so.
But this is just part of a growing trend of businesses discriminating against people with right-leaning political ideologies.
But on the plus side, I can report about the ACLU, which is thankfully kind of moving away from their lefty political activism that has beleaguered them in the last few years.
but they are arguing not only In favor of this white nationalist rally, even though they might disagree with the overall message, but the ACLU has actually filed a lawsuit on behalf of none other than Milo Yiannopoulos.
This is, of course, one of the nation's most...
Infamous and most prominent right-wing provocateurs, Milo Yiannopoulos.
Now, the group is suing the Washington, D.C. transit officials, saying they violated Yiannopoulos' First Amendment rights by removing advertisements for his new book.
Now, Milo isn't the only client listed in the lawsuit.
DC Metro also blocked ads for PETA, an abortion provider, and the ACLU itself.
Now, the ACLU openly disagrees with Milo's stance, but one of the attorneys behind this lawsuit called this one of the most beautiful illustrations of the indivisibility of the First Amendment.
Lee Rowland says that it's important to defend speech we hate because that means the First Amendment tide rises for all of us.
And added that when we give the government power to regulate speakers based on their identity or perceived level of offense, it reduces speech for all of us.
