Time Text
All right, Kit Daniels, Infowars.com, here at the Reagan International Airport.
This is something that we've noticed at every single restaurant we've seen here, is that they're replacing waitstaff with these little iPad robot things.
And the service has been really lackluster, as we would expect with robots.
And what do you think, Owen?
I would say it's been worse than lackluster.
But it was strange when we first got to the airport.
That was the first thing both of us noticed.
How all of the establishments where you get food and drink just have these things.
And we've been having to deal with it.
It's not convenient.
It's not fun.
Obviously, there's no human interaction here.
So there's certain things that are just impossible.
You had to do a special order because you couldn't figure this out.
And then the lady across from me was afraid that...
Her tab would still be open when she left, and she was afraid someone would start ringing it up.
And it just kind of like a, I don't know, like a slowdown effect or a traffic effect, because now you're waiting for human interaction to figure out what, you know, what's going on with this, or you've got a question about a food item or something.
But I think the real story here is, you know, this is obviously the direction that is trending here in the service industry.
And if you think about it...
If you think about all the minimum wage laws that people are thinking about pushing, this will be the result.
So you can get your $15-hour minimum wage, but you're just going to be replaced by a robot.
Here's the scary thing, Owen, is the fact that during the Obama administration, the only jobs that were created were all in waitstaff.
Yeah, service industry.
Part-time work.
You know, when they're struggling and they're between jobs or they're paying for, like, medical school, that's the only job they can get.
That's a scary thing.
Now...
Yeah, that's true.
...weigh staff with iPads.
And the service is not as good.
And the thing that really irritates me about it was it was trying to charge us like 18% gratuity.
It's like, for what?
For busting our own tables?
Well, the service is non-existent, is what it is.
I mean...
We were at an establishment earlier that does the same thing, and there's no order.
It's just complete chaos.
These things are supposed to somehow sit people, clean the tables, take the orders, and it just doesn't work.
We tried to get at this other place earlier, and the airport's really crowded today, and it's just total chaos.
They don't have enough waitstaff, there's not enough service staff, and honestly, it's kind of a terrible dining experience if you had to leave this one place because it was so pathetic.
But I think that, you know, the story here again is that this is obviously where it's trending.
This is obviously what they see the future of the service industry.
And all those people out there that think the minimum wage is the answer, you need to understand that this is what you'll get if you fight for that minimum wage.
And I personally would rather talk to a human when I'm ordering food, and I think it makes the whole process go smoother.
But here in Washington, D.C. Airport, Reagan International, if you try to order food or a drink, You're going to have to make friends with an iPad.
All right, this is Owen Troyer and Kit Daniels reporting about the Technotronic takeover.
