Jakari Jackson reporting from Charleston, South Carolina.
Now, of course, we're here to cover the case that's going on with one Dylan Roof.
But I had a chance to bump into these two nice ladies who are here covering a wedding.
So, first of all, when you heard about the shooting, what was your initial reaction?
My initial reaction was sadness.
It was terrifying.
It was sad.
It was just a very visceral kind of response to it.
The same.
I just felt very sad for the families and the church community that it happened to and can only imagine the pain that they're experiencing right now.
Now, are you ladies from this area?
We're from Atlanta, Georgia.
Atlanta.
Okay, so will what happened here recently impact your plans for the weekend at all?
To some degree, yes.
I'm a wedding coordinator and I am here in town for a wedding this weekend and so we have to make a few little adjustments, logistical adjustments, to accommodate.
The events of the weekend.
But that's okay.
And it's something we're very glad to do.
And it's something that is important for us to do.
But it's also important for us to continue on with the life of the city and what's going on and celebrate this wedding with a great deal of enthusiasm, but also with some respect for the victims and the tragedy that occurred here in the city.
And that's not easy to do, but it's something we need to...
To kind of step through the journey and continue on.
And last question for you ladies.
I know you've got big plans tonight.
But I'm just curious, when you heard the reaction of the family members, you know, we saw the conference earlier today and many of the family members saying, we forgive you, we're praying for you, you know, we hope the best for you.
It's heart-wrenching, but it's also incredibly heartwarming to know that people have that much room to forgive.
And it's just a...
I'm sorry, I'm at a loss for words.
Yeah, I'm at a loss for words.
But yeah, it's just inspiring to see that kind of response.
And same thing, I think because it happened at a church full of people who believe in forgiveness and believe in redemption, I think that this...
Tragedy is going to be met with a lot more compassion for the person who did it.
You know, I think in any of those circumstances, I don't think that we'd see that kind of forgiveness.
But because it happened in a church, you know, it's a different kind of community.
And I was with some people who knew the victims when I learned about it, when I was watching it on the news.
And they knew the victims, knew the community, had just been at that church within a week ago.
And it seems like this is such a strong community of love and family value.
I think this is why you're going to see a lot more compassion and forgiveness.
