And as you can see, these are a lot of the buildings that were broken into, looted, because they decided to put their trust into the community.
I'm not saying that it was a lot of people that lived here, but that was their expectation was to...
Trust in the fact that they were going to listen to what the president asked for, what Eric Holder asked for, what Michael Brown's family asked for.
It was no violence, no looting, just peaceful protests.
And as you can see today, I mean, this place looks like a war zone.
Everyone's trying to repair, get their businesses back together.
People are boarding up the windows.
Shops were completely burnt down to the ground on West Florissant.
I mean, you can't even get on that street for quite a few blocks.
And right now, it looks like the day after a Category 5 hurricane has hit, everyone is just trying to pick up the pieces of their lives and their businesses and hopes that someday they're going to be able to go back to having a normal life.
But, you know, this is going to put a sour taste in the mouth of a lot of these owners.
I guarantee you a lot of them aren't even going to come back.
Or even want to invest in being in a community where they have a chance of losing everything again.
There's talks that a church was burnt last night.
There have been people found dead.
This errand store completely looted.
Insurance, T-Mobile.
The store up here, the auto zone, was burnt to the ground.
We're about to approach that in just a second.
But, I mean, this is something that breaks my heart, and I know people watching this at home, this isn't a way to voice your anger and your hurt.
Peaceful protest is fine.
That's covered in the Constitution, but this is clearly an act of terrorism in a sense because you're attacking hardworking Americans who put these businesses up because they wanted to contribute to the city or the town of Ferguson.
They wanted to...
Put back into the community so people here have resources.
I mean, they can't go buy computer appliances anymore.
They can't go to AutoZone and get stuff worked on.
They can't do a lot of this now because a bunch of outsiders came in and decided to take this as a thing that they could go and exploit.
Ooh, hurry up, guy.
Maybe use your siren like the other guy did so we know you're coming.
And then here, I'm going to make a right and get in this lane.
You can see this AutoZone burnt down.
This much resembles the quick trip from back in August.
Just completely, totally collapsed in now.
It's insane.
And here you are.
The real people in the community who want healing are out here cleaning up the pieces and trying to put it back together.
You know, it's just sad that a lot of outside people had to come in here and burn down a great place like Ferguson.
