Pachenik and I'm smiling because honestly this is the 100th video.
That we have produced.
Who is we?
Number one, I want to thank Dr.
Colette Dowling for her help in initiating these videos that we've created.
But more importantly, there's a woman who you see in the beginning.
Her name is Stephanie Marie Perkins.
She's been a wonderful companion and a wonderful partner.
And she just kind of keeps me going and makes me laugh.
And the third person I'd like to thank is Drew who's kept our website going and of course last but not least are you people who are watching the videos and I appreciate the fact that you like them.
Let me talk a little bit about what I find is going on in the Republic and in the world.
For the most part, the strum and the drang and the contest between the left and the right and the liberals or the Democrats and the Republicans, it's an old story.
It's a story in which the Republic has repeatedly kept its sanctity and its viability because of the differences that we have.
Believe it or not, When the Democrats come into Congress and they're the majority right now, I don't have a problem.
And the reason I don't have a problem is because eventually Nancy Pelosi, who will be selected Speaker of the House, understands that she and other Democrats will socialize these new progressive Democrats into a system where your own rhetoric and enthusiasm gets distilled out by being part of a larger group and being the loyal opposition or the protagonist in the Republic.
In this case, it would be the Democrats.
In the case of the Republicans, we won the Senate, we got governorships.
Does that mean we're all going to go to the side of the Republicans?
No.
In effect, what happens when you get into the Republican position is that in the Senate, you become a coalition of partners.
Democrats, Republicans, Independents, it really doesn't matter.
But in order for this Republic to work, there has to be give and take.
That's why the notion that the Republic is falling apart and that we're fighting each other and that we're going to have a civil war is nonsense.
It's not only nonsense, it really belies the fact that our republic has remained really quite viable and very vigorous.
You know, our economy is doing well, the unemployment is low, and America is still a powerful country.
Now, the one element where socialization of the institution does not occur is ironically in the White House.
And as I've talked before, the White House character is determined by the personality of the president.
When we had George Bush Sr., James Baker and George Bush had a very tight, quiet, elegant White House that did what it had to do without any leakage or any vacillations.
When we have Trump, because of his personality, there's no question that there's going to be vacillation and there are going to be firings and hirings.
From my point of view, I think there has been some serious mistakes made in the Trump White House.
As I've mentioned, the National Security Advisor John Bolton is a neocon who really has never had military experience, has never been on the ground in combat or understands strategy and tactics.
In fact, he's labeled as a neocon where he orders everybody to go to war, but he himself is too cowardly to go to war.
And so that type of attitude does not add to the White House.
The reason we have military commanders like Mattis, John Kelly, Nakasone, Pompeo, who's number one at West Point, and others, Abazaid now, the ambassador to Saudi Arabia, is the fact that they have been trained, socialized, for emergencies in national security, and they know how to maintain a sense of calmness, and a sense of progress without having to be bellicose.
My point is very simple.
If Trump wants to get rid of Nielsen, the director of the Homeland Security, I think that's a mistake.
I think she's done a very good job.
If he's not satisfied with her, that's of course his prerogative.
But there's very little else that you can do on the border of Mexico other than send our American troops who are already down there.
And many people are questioning that.
The bigger problem will be if Trump...
He dismisses John Kelly.
Now John Kelly is a gentleman who served our country bravely.
He's been head of Southcom and he has created a command and control system in the White House that needs to be there.
So I think it's very important for Trump to think out what it means to put Nick Ayers there, A-Y-E-R-S, a political operative.
Let me summarize by saying the republic will remain intact.
And as H.L. Mencken, the humorist, once said, in order to run America, you have to run it like a circus from the monkey's cage.
