Freedomain Radio - Stefan Molyneux - So... The Atheists Lied About Lying... Aired: 2025-07-28 Duration: 04:38 === Why Atheists Lie (03:41) === [00:00:00] I mean, that's the beautiful wrapped-in-a-bow meta-narrative of what I was up to for the last couple of days. [00:00:06] I wanted to ask the atheists, why shouldn't you lie? [00:00:13] Knowing that they were going to come right in and lie. [00:00:17] And they did. [00:00:18] And if you lie, you can't progress, right? [00:00:23] If you lie, you cannot progress because you actually are doing the opposite of the truth. [00:00:29] And the pivot to the attack upon Christianity was a way of covering up those lies. [00:00:38] Of course, and, you know, I mean, they're much more likely to criticize Christianity than, say, Islam or Judaism or Hinduism or something else, right? [00:00:45] So that was really fascinating to have my sort of abstract theories about how atheists were going to respond. [00:00:51] And it's kind of cool being back on X because I have access to a much wider and larger group of people, right? [00:00:58] So on the other platforms, I would say that it was like a jazz club. [00:01:00] I mean, small, intimate. [00:01:01] I really enjoyed those years talking. [00:01:04] And we still do that, like Sunday mornings, the 11 a.m. [00:01:06] We're still doing subscriber-only conversations. [00:01:09] So I'm not going to say it was a trap because it's an open question. [00:01:13] Why should you not lie? [00:01:15] And every atheist who came in, lied, claimed to have knowledge they didn't have, which meant they had faith in a truth they did not have. [00:01:27] They pretended a knowledge they did not possess and resisted all attempts to correct them. [00:01:37] In other words, they criticize the Christians or other religious groups for claiming to know something that they don't know. [00:01:47] The existence of God, the divinity of Jesus, and so on, right? [00:01:50] And the atheists say, how dare you? [00:01:52] How dare you pretend to have a knowledge you don't have? [00:01:55] Oh, sorry, one sec. [00:01:56] I got to go talk to staff and pretend I have a knowledge about secular ethics that I don't have. [00:02:02] But you see this mirror image, right? [00:02:06] So yes, I remain a strong atheist. [00:02:12] I've talked about this with Dr. Murphy in a show we did. [00:02:15] We recorded it last week. [00:02:16] It just came out this week. [00:02:19] So, I mean, because I can't overturn the arguments against the existence of God. [00:02:25] I remain a strong atheist. [00:02:29] And although, as I mentioned with Dr. Murphy, I am going to church. [00:02:32] I have done a whole series on Bible verses. [00:02:35] And some of the best people in my life. [00:02:40] Yeah, I think some of the best. [00:02:41] I can't think of, I mean, the best people in my life tend to be Christians. [00:02:44] I mean, and obviously philosophers and philosophy people and so on, right? [00:02:48] So, yeah, because that's not up to me. [00:02:51] It's not up to me. [00:02:52] It is up to reason and evidence. [00:02:53] And again, I'm opening my heart to the evidence. [00:02:55] We'll see what happens. [00:02:56] But yeah, I remain a strong atheist, of course. [00:02:58] I mean, I can't overturn that. [00:03:02] But my goal, of course, was to shake the complacency and vanity. [00:03:12] Because if all you do is compare your imaginary, pure, idealistic, scientific, and rational syllogisms and thoughts to what is, of course, at its essence, a faith-based mission like religion, then you're going to feel like you're in the right and they're in the wrong. [00:03:29] And I understand. [00:03:30] But if that's all, if that's the only place you stay, if you never get somebody serving to your soft spot, you never grow. === Never Admitting It (00:57) === [00:03:41] And it really was fascinating. [00:03:43] Honestly, I'm telling you, this is going to be studied for centuries. [00:03:46] Like this tweet and its response, I was very conscious of this when I write every response. [00:03:52] It's going to be poured over for centuries. [00:03:53] I'm not kidding about that. [00:03:54] I mean, I know most people won't believe me. [00:03:56] It doesn't matter. [00:03:57] I've got 20 years in the history of philosophy. [00:03:59] I know how this stuff works. [00:04:01] Yeah, it's going to be studied because to have all of these people attack others, like Christians, for claiming a knowledge they don't have, while themselves claiming a knowledge they don't have, for responding to a tweet, why tell the truth by lying and never admitting it, is just absolutely fascinating. [00:04:23] It's fascinating stuff. [00:04:24] And I really do thank all the atheists who came in. [00:04:27] And I hope that the atheists get some humility. [00:04:29] You know, one of the things that's great about Christianity is the humility. [00:04:33] And I hope that the atheists come in and recognize that they don't have good answers for ethics.
