Freedomain Radio - Stefan Molyneux - How to Get Married When the Opportunity Arises Aired: 2025-07-08 Duration: 04:44 === When Opportunity Knocks (03:33) === [00:00:00] By the numbers, says somebody on X. I shouldn't. [00:00:05] I've never gotten married. [00:00:06] I had kids, but it happened five kids and 20 years ago. [00:00:08] Yeah, so there's this other funny thing in life, which is I'll do it, not just when I'm not scared, I'll do it when the time is right. [00:00:16] I'll do it when the time is right, I'll do it when I'm ready. [00:00:20] Yeah. [00:00:22] That's a long, a long way to spell procrastination. [00:00:27] When the opportunity arises, just freaking do it. [00:00:31] You know, when I was, an opportunity arose for me in the business world in my 20s. [00:00:38] I was working as a programmer at a very major financial and stock trading institution. [00:00:44] And the opportunity arose to be entrepreneurial. [00:00:52] Was it the right time? [00:00:53] I don't know. [00:00:53] I got my first real professional gig after leaving university. [00:00:59] Was it the right time? [00:01:00] I don't know. [00:01:01] But those opportunities don't come along very often. [00:01:04] Like the girl you really like, she may never come back. [00:01:08] The girl you really like, she may never come back. [00:01:12] I mean, I remember my wife and I met playing volleyball. [00:01:17] And the volleyball team, we didn't really know each other. [00:01:20] We were just all thrown together. [00:01:21] I was there with one or two friends of mine. [00:01:23] And so we thought, well, let's get together. [00:01:25] And so we said, well, next week, we're all going to go across the street to a restaurant. [00:01:29] We can sit down and get to know each other and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. [00:01:31] And I was like, yeah, sounds good. [00:01:33] And anyway, the next week came and only my wife and I went. [00:01:37] Everyone else, oh, I forgot I'm busy. [00:01:39] And we were like, oh, it's kind of a drag. [00:01:41] But she always seemed like a lot of fun and sort of very positive. [00:01:45] And we went and just, we were there for like hours, just talking. [00:01:51] The whole conversation was electric. [00:01:52] I've never done this before, but I realized later, you know, the little bill fold that comes in with the restaurant name on it. [00:01:58] I kept it. [00:01:59] I kept it. [00:02:00] I just went home with it, which made no sense other than I wanted to take something home that night. [00:02:05] And we basically spent every day together since. [00:02:09] And 24 years ago, something like that, we got engaged within a couple of months, got married within 11 months of meeting. [00:02:19] I'm not, and I knew, I mean, I remember being on a hike with her, watching her climb a hill. [00:02:24] We'd had a great conversation. [00:02:27] And I was like, yeah, I can't do better than this. [00:02:29] There's no, I can't do better. [00:02:30] There's no upgrade from here. [00:02:31] And I've never felt that there has been an upgrade from here. [00:02:37] What I'm going to say, well, you know, she's a little short. [00:02:41] And if I have a son, I don't want him to be short or whatever, whatever, whatever, right? [00:02:49] I'll wait for the perfect person, whatever that is, right? [00:02:51] Whatever that is. [00:02:52] And the idea that I would have the arrogance to know what's perfect for me for the rest of my life, I just go on principles, right? [00:02:58] And I remember that. [00:03:03] I'm not going to do better than her. [00:03:09] She's the top. [00:03:10] She's the crowning glory. [00:03:12] And if you get that feeling with someone, and just because she's perfect for me doesn't mean that she's perfect. [00:03:19] I think she is in general, but, you know, it's like that old Grace Jones song, I'm not perfect, but I'm perfect for you. [00:03:26] And when you hit that person, you got that click with. === Perfect For You (01:10) === [00:03:34] Strike now. [00:03:37] Close the deal because the hour is getting late. [00:03:42] And you don't get a whole bunch of turns at back, my friends. [00:03:51] It wasn't like, well, I've got 12 offers to become an entrepreneur. [00:03:56] I guess I'll just pick and choose and later and this and that and the other. [00:03:59] Nope. [00:04:04] It's now or never. [00:04:07] Come hold me tight. [00:04:08] It's now or never. [00:04:11] If it's the right thing in the right time, if you've got that opportunity, you've got that, the planet's relying, things are possible, just do it. [00:04:21] Just do it. [00:04:22] And it doesn't matter if you fail. [00:04:23] So when I was in, I originally went to the Glendon campus of York University, and I went, because I love to write and read, and I went to do an English degree. [00:04:33] And through the English degree, I started acting. [00:04:36] And I was always cast as the lead, and there was never any auditions for anyone else, because I was pretty good at it. [00:04:42] Anyway, so then I decided to go to the NAT.
