Freedomain Radio - Stefan Molyneux - What Is the Goal of Life? Aired: 2025-06-12 Duration: 04:53 === Goal of Congruence (01:30) === [00:00:00] Okay, right. [00:00:00] So it's in reference to a goal. [00:00:02] Or the goal would be the imitation of Christ. [00:00:04] Someone's goal, right? [00:00:06] No, the goal is not the imitation of Christ. [00:00:08] The goal is the heaven or the virtue that results from that. [00:00:11] All right, we'll just finish up this, young lady. [00:00:14] Can be something that doesn't encompass being in congruence with God or being with God. [00:00:19] No, the thing that they want to be in congruence. [00:00:22] That's right. [00:00:23] That's right. [00:00:24] That's good. [00:00:25] Something that doesn't encompass being in congruence with Christ. [00:00:27] Someone's goal, right, can be something that doesn't encompass being in congruence with God or being with God. [00:00:34] No, the thing that they want to be in congruence with is fundamentally equivalent to their God. [00:00:45] So, what makes someone a Christian and what makes someone not a Christian? [00:00:49] That's what I'm trying to figure out. [00:00:50] That's a good question. [00:00:51] Yes. [00:00:52] Yeah, well, okay, I mean, I don't know that I know anything more about morality in an objective sense. [00:01:00] Morality is universally preferable behavior. [00:01:02] That's what it is, right? [00:01:03] And it needs to be universalizable and consistent and logical and achievable and pass the coma test. [00:01:10] I mean, this is all stuff that's in UPB as a whole. [00:01:12] So I still don't know what God is in this formulation. [00:01:18] I certainly don't know what morality is other than Stuff which has a good outcome. [00:01:25] I mean, that's the very subjective measure, right? [00:01:27] What is a good outcome? [00:01:28] For who? [00:01:29] Based on what? === Promises of Future Actions (03:23) === [00:01:30] For how long? [00:01:31] You know, and so on, right? [00:01:32] So, I mean, an evil man, like a woman, I suppose, an evil man is a rapist. [00:01:40] A rapist, of course, prefers to be a rapist than not be a rapist, which is what he does, right? [00:01:45] And the evil work that he does. [00:01:48] And so, the system of It's an institutionalized rate benefits him. [00:01:53] Less attractive people benefit from forced marriage. [00:01:57] More attractive people benefit from voluntary marriage. [00:02:02] So, yeah, none of this really goes past basic Socratic skepticism. [00:02:10] All right. [00:02:11] Well, I'll stop here. [00:02:12] Maybe we'll continue. [00:02:13] I do find this stuff interesting. [00:02:14] It is like trying to unravel the Gordian knot of generalized confusion, but that's where the world is, and it's great to have these kinds of debates going on. [00:03:11] Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum. [00:03:20] I have not, but I am very proverbs. [00:03:22] I'm very proverbs. [00:03:23] Better than nouns. [00:03:24] Nouns are just things. [00:03:25] Verbs are action. [00:03:27] Knowing the best outcomes for everyone is akin to mysticism. [00:03:30] It is a count of it. [00:03:30] Well, it just invites sophistry. [00:03:32] Whoever can convince you of the glories of their system end up ruling the world and usually destroying it. [00:03:39] All right. [00:03:40] Good faith is a contractual legal term. [00:03:43] Contracts are promises of future actions. [00:03:45] Everyone here signed TOS and made and accepted promises of future actions. [00:03:51] contracts are promises of future actions. [00:03:52] Yeah, but I mean, how many people would have been pro-global warming if they were on the hook for $5 million if global warming failed to materialize? [00:04:12] If they lost everything and were put into bankruptcy and all of that and lost everything, all of their property, if... [00:04:25] I mean, the communists, when they failed to produce greater wealth and capitalism, they didn't sit there and say, oh, well, you know, I have a contract and therefore there are penalties if I'm wrong, right? [00:04:35] They already have their power and they just lie to get the power. [00:04:38] All right. [00:04:39] I will look at an analysis of the book of Proverbs. [00:04:43] I think that's very interesting and I appreciate that. [00:04:45] I appreciate that. [00:04:46] All right. [00:04:47] Thank you everyone so much. [00:04:48] Have yourself a glorious evening. [00:04:49] I appreciate your time tonight and I will talk to you Sunday.
