[00:00:02] Oh, yes, you are. [00:00:03] Friday Night Live. [00:00:04] Yes, 22nd of November 2024. 221124. Sounds like a cha-cha-cha step. [00:00:15] And have I seen the South Korean film Parasite? [00:00:18] What are your thoughts? [00:00:19] It's a good film. [00:00:20] Actually, it was a good film. [00:00:21] Memorable, surprising, interesting, good writing, great acting. [00:00:25] And it is one of the films that's realistic about the poor. [00:00:32] I mean, let me ask you your experience. [00:00:34] If you've spent much time, and Lord knows I have, if you've spent much time around the poor, What are your thoughts? [00:00:46] What are your thoughts on the poor as a whole? [00:00:48] And I'm not just, I'm not talking about the people who have a hard time making men's meat. [00:00:52] I'm like really poor, like no car, rent control, apartment, squeezing together every thin dime. [00:01:03] What are your thoughts if you spend significant time around the poor? [00:01:07] I'm not talking about the voluntary poor, right? [00:01:10] I'm not talking about the people who are all going to write the great Canadian novels, so I'm going to take my time off from working, but the poor. [00:01:19] What has been your experience of the poor as a whole? [00:01:29] I'm curious. [00:01:30] I have some thoughts, but it is, of course, a show for which I would love to hear your thoughts. [00:01:44] A lot of the poor are just lazy, they don't listen either, very hedonistic. [00:01:50] I was thinking about your assessment of the poor in your last podcast. === Thinking About Poverty (02:34) === [00:01:53] I must say I agree. [00:01:53] Many I grew up around and spent time with were into drugs, unable to hold down jobs, and hated their landlords. [00:01:58] They are into instant gratification. [00:02:01] And it's not just an IQ thing, but it certainly has something to do with it. [00:02:05] Of course, nothing's a just-one-exclamation thing, right? [00:02:09] They have friends with bad habits that they don't want to say no to. [00:02:12] Most poor people are suffering consequences of their past actions. [00:02:20] I have in passing, says someone. [00:02:21] I do some volunteer work in soup kitchens. [00:02:23] There's some serious dysfunctional people. [00:02:25] my last volunteer day, a guy was dragged out by the cops for being simply crazy. [00:02:30] Right. [00:02:31] You want to know the biggest difference between the poor and the wealthy? [00:02:41] you Thank you. [00:02:46] It is one word only. [00:02:49] What is the difference between the poor and the wealthy? [00:03:00] And I say this having had brutal decades of experience in this manner. [00:03:06] Responsibility? [00:03:07] I don't think so. [00:03:09] Accountability? [00:03:10] Mm-mm. [00:03:12] Mm-mm. [00:03:15] Somebody says, you have to adopt everything they believe, at least outwardly, otherwise they view you as an enemy. [00:03:20] You must like rap, hate the rich, assume all upward mobility is luck, and they will be unlucky, so better off just doing drugs. [00:03:31] I tell you why my family was poor when I was a kid. [00:03:34] My parents gambled and took out a ton of loans and leases on cars. [00:03:40] Someone says, I let a poor comedian live with me for a year, giving him cheap rent. [00:03:44] He was alright until I wanted to get serious about starting a family with my girlfriend and began to disrespect every rule of the house and I was forced to kick him out. [00:03:51] The wealthy by lobbyists. [00:03:53] Now, what's the words you're thinking? [00:03:56] Discipline, agency, arrogance, tenacity, sacrifice, the rich are sensitive to shunning. [00:04:04] Ah, what's the one thing the poor people will always say when you begin to, oh, you just think you're too good for us now? [00:04:11] Oh, you just think you're too good for us now? [00:04:15] Yeah. [00:04:16] So, I will tell you, and I, this is a, um, This is a thesis that I will stand by. [00:04:25] It doesn't mean that I'm right.
