Skeptoid - Skeptoid #350: Trinity: Interview with Dr. Oz, Alex Jones, and Deepak Chopra Aired: 2013-02-19 Duration: 08:47 === Skeptoid 350: The Musical Episode (07:12) === [00:00:03] As this episode number 350 is a 50th show, that means that it's a lavish musical episode of Skeptoid. [00:00:12] But today is no ordinary one. [00:00:14] We've got three amazing performers who are going to sing to you about their work today. [00:00:20] Dr. Oz, Alex Jones, and Deepak Chopra. [00:00:24] I bet you didn't even know they were singers. [00:00:27] Also, I bet you didn't know they were so good at harmonizing. [00:00:30] The Trinity is up next on Skeptoid. [00:00:37] Hi, I'm Alex Goldman. [00:00:39] You may know me as the host of Reply All, but I'm done with that. [00:00:43] I'm doing something else now. [00:00:45] I've started a new podcast called Hyperfixed. [00:00:48] On every episode of Hyperfixed, listeners write in with their problems and I try to solve them. [00:00:52] Some massive and life-altering, and some so minuscule it'll boggle your mind. [00:00:57] No matter the problem, no matter the size, I'm here for you. [00:01:00] That's HyperFixed, the new podcast for Radiotopia. [00:01:03] Find it wherever you listen to podcasts or at hyperfixedpod.com. [00:01:13] You're listening to Skeptoid. [00:01:15] I'm Brian Dunning from Skeptoid.com. [00:01:18] Trinity. [00:01:20] Interview with Mehmet Oz, Alex Jones, and Deepak Chopra. [00:01:25] Today we're going to depart from the usual format of Skeptoid. [00:01:29] Typically, we don't do interview shows, but today we have a rare opportunity to talk with three of the biggest names in their fields. [00:01:36] I'd like to introduce you to television Dr. Mehmet Oz. [00:01:40] My pleasure. [00:01:42] Radio host Alex Jones. [00:01:44] I've got 12 minutes left on my parking meter. [00:01:47] And author Dr. Deepak Chopra. [00:01:50] It is very nice to be here. [00:01:52] Gentlemen, thank you all for making yourselves available today. [00:01:55] Obviously, you're all known for presenting information that's been met with mixed reactions from the more mainstream colleagues in your various fields. [00:02:04] However, you've all been arguably more commercially successful than your colleagues. [00:02:09] Damn straight. [00:02:10] Dr. Oz, you began your career as a medical doctor, but you now promote unproven and often implausible alternative medicine on television. [00:02:19] Is this the secret of your success? [00:02:22] People want to hear the truth from someone that they trust. [00:02:25] The medical industry has shown that it focuses only on profits. [00:02:29] So I try to present a view that's more personalized and principled. [00:02:32] You're talking about principles? [00:02:34] One of the highest paid actors on television. [00:02:36] How much of that money do you give to charity? [00:02:38] Alex, we'll get to you in just a moment. [00:02:40] I think your meters run. [00:02:41] Gentlemen, please. [00:02:43] Dr. Chopra, it is Doctor, right? [00:02:45] Yes. [00:02:46] I too once had a career in medicine many, many decades ago, before I also saw the light and discovered that the physical world is just a projection of our own inner being. [00:02:57] I've got a projection of my foot up your inner head. [00:03:00] Alex, let's try and get a word in from you. [00:03:03] You're best known for promoting conspiracy theories on the radio and on the internet. [00:03:07] That's right, except they're not theories, they're the truth. [00:03:10] I understand that among your beliefs is that the government is planning to put millions of law-abiding citizens into extermination camps. [00:03:18] Anyone with an open mind can see it happening if you just look outside. [00:03:22] Dr. Chopra, do your transcendental theories support any explanation for what Alex is saying? [00:03:28] It is his reality, and so it is also real within all of us, because of electrons and quantum theory. [00:03:35] That's actually something I was hoping to discuss in more detail with all of you. [00:03:39] Dr. Oz, do you use specialized language to promote what you do? [00:03:44] I think the best way to answer that question is like this. [00:03:55] They call me Dr. Oz. [00:03:56] I play a doctor on TV. [00:03:59] My job's to tell you science has it wrong. [00:04:03] And every day some brand new supermiracle appears. [00:04:07] I'll sell you magic products all day long. [00:04:11] Don't ever listen when they tell you exercise. [00:04:14] Combined with fewer fries is what will shrink your thighs. [00:04:19] You need these berries hailing from exotic lands. [00:04:22] Science misunderstands your body's true demands. [00:04:27] For we are the holy trinity of pseudo-scientific ideas. [00:04:35] And we have the mepersnam to google your brain cells away. [00:04:47] It's my turn now and I've got something to say. [00:04:49] The government and the aliens and banklins are taking over the world. [00:04:52] And Area 51 is having Illuminati and the Freemasons and the Zionists and the World Bankers. [00:04:56] Sorry. [00:04:57] Okay, it's like this. [00:04:59] The government is out to take your freedoms all away. [00:05:03] They want to put you in a prison camp. [00:05:07] Your mind is being controlled by what you eat and what you breathe. [00:05:11] And by that little chip that they implant. [00:05:15] The men in black are cracking all your movements now. [00:05:18] Your food is what they vow. [00:05:20] And we must disallow. [00:05:23] Conspiracies control your money and your mind. [00:05:26] Wake up and grow a spine. [00:05:28] It's revolution time. [00:05:31] For we are the holy trinity of pseudo-scientific idle sea. [00:05:39] And we have the mepric to blow your brain cells away. [00:05:54] Deepak, you've heard your fellow guests explain their perspectives. [00:05:58] Oh, yes, very much indeed. [00:06:00] What can you tell us about your work? [00:06:03] Quantum information makes reality transform. [00:06:07] The light of knowledge brightens consciousness. [00:06:11] Inside of rationality are photons that are good. [00:06:15] And boundless positivity exists. [00:06:19] Infinity and chaos are equivocal. [00:06:22] The world's cylindrical and metaphysical. [00:06:27] Perceptual reality's an avatar. [00:06:30] Transcendent caviar, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. [00:06:35] For we are the holy trinity of pseudo-scientific ILC. [00:06:43] And we have the Mippers Nandy to Google Your Brain Cells away. [00:07:03] That's very nice, boys. [00:07:08] Well, I have to say, you've all given us a lot to think about today. [00:07:11] Perhaps some of our listeners will tune into your programs to learn more. [00:07:15] Not likely. === Chakras Realigned: A Satirical Finale (01:31) === [00:07:16] They're all paid shows for the government. [00:07:18] My friend, I think you need to have your chakras realigned. [00:07:21] I can do that for you. [00:07:23] Well, thanks for being here, gentlemen. [00:07:25] You're listening to Skeptoid. [00:07:26] I'm Brian Dunning from Skeptoid.com. [00:07:41] Hello, everyone. [00:07:42] This is Adrian Hill from Skookum Studios in Calgary, Canada, the land of maple syrup and mousse. [00:07:50] And I'm here to ask you to consider becoming a premium member of Skeptoid for as little as $5 per month. [00:07:59] And that's only the cost of a couple of Tim Horton's double doubles. [00:08:03] And that's Canadian for coffee with double cream and sugar. [00:08:07] Why support Skeptoid? [00:08:09] If you are like me and don't like ads, but like extended versions of each episode, Premium is for you.
