Sean Hannity Show - Morning Minute: Honoring The Ultimate Sacrifice - 5.25 Aired: 2017-05-25 Duration: 01:02 === Remembering Sacrifices (01:02) === [00:00:00] This is an iHeart Podcast. [00:00:04] What do we do on Memorial Day? [00:00:06] We remember. [00:00:07] Memorial Day is born out of the Civil War, a desire to honor those that gave their lives for others. [00:00:14] It was officially proclaimed on May 5th, 1868, by General John Logan, National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, the 30th of May, 1868 is designed for the purpose of strewing with flowers and otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, [00:00:41] village, and hamlet churchyard in the land, he proclaimed. [00:00:45] The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn't the anniversary of any particular battle. [00:00:52] So if you take time this weekend and you're barbecuing and you're hanging with your friends and you're enjoying your families, which, by the way, we can do because so many did give the ultimate sacrifice for us, I hope you remember that.
