Making Sense - Sam Harris - Making Sense with Sam Harris Aired: 2020-12-07 Duration: 01:32 === What Went Wrong (01:31) === [00:00:01] There's so much here that's confusing. [00:00:04] So let's first talk about what went wrong and what could have not gone wrong. [00:00:08] Your whole podcast is about just having honest conversations about topics. [00:00:12] It's offensive to your and my sense of justice. [00:00:15] You actually care. [00:00:17] How has my mind been fundamentally warped? [00:00:19] So the topic today is the threat of nuclear war. [00:00:23] Slow erosion of the social fabric. [00:00:25] Synthetic media revolution. [00:00:26] Collapse of our economy. [00:00:28] The role of religion in public life. [00:00:30] Morality and moral disagreement. [00:00:31] Breakdown of truth. [00:00:32] I'm scared that us two in a room will egg each other on. [00:00:36] You can't have a subtle argument anymore. [00:00:38] There's no place for nuance. [00:00:40] Everything has to be binary for the right people to agree and disagree. [00:00:45] It's not a healthy place for society to be when everyone is afraid to say anything. [00:00:50] I've learned to exercise censorship on myself in a way that is deeply disturbing. [00:00:56] I don't feel that I should have to. [00:00:59] I appreciate who you are, really, and you elevated me and those ideas. [00:01:03] I'll never forget you for it. [00:01:05] Real danger during the Cold War was blundering into a nuclear war, and I believe that that is the same situation today, and with at least the same likelihood today. [00:01:15] You're so full of Christmas cheer. [00:01:16] Today I'm speaking with Robert Plowman. [00:01:19] Here I reached out to Jonathan Haidt, William J. Perry. [00:01:22] I am here with Gabriel Dance, Siddhartha Mukherjee, David Miliband, Graham Wood, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Fry, James Dillard, Chris Don Harris, Michael Sandel, Evonne Noah-Ferraro. [00:01:31] Welcome to the Making Sense Podcast.
