All right, guys, fear not, we're not doing politics today.
I'm just here to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving and tell you a little bit about what we're celebrating today.
Before I do that, though, I just hope that you're all getting a moment to step away from the chaos, get away from the headlines and the endless doom scrolling, because there is an awful lot to be thankful for right now.
So, let's talk about what Thanksgiving is all about.
Do you know that Thanksgiving goes all the way back to 1621 when the pilgrims, who had lost almost half their people during their first brutal winter, sat down with the Wampanoag tribe?
The Wampanoag had taught them how to plant crops, how to fish the waters, and how to survive on this land.
And that first Thanksgiving meal likely lasted three days, filled with wild game, corn, and whatever else they could gather.
They weren't celebrating perfection, they were celebrating survival, cooperation, and the belief that tomorrow could be better than yesterday.
That spirit is baked right into what it means to be American.
And then, more than two centuries later, Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in the middle of the Civil War.
Think about that.
When American families were literally fighting each other, when the future of the nation was totally uncertain, Lincoln still believed that pausing to give thanks could unite us, that it could remind us of the better angels of our nature.
Today, in 2025, we have our own divisions and challenges, but we also have extraordinary freedoms.
The freedom to speak, the freedom to think, to gather, to pursue our dreams.
These are things people throughout history could only imagine, and they're worth slowing down and appreciating.
So, take a moment today, maybe between the turkey and the pumpkin pie, to think about all the people who show up for you, the opportunities you've had, and the simple fact that you live in a country that still believes in the individual, in liberty, and the possibility of a better future.
Enjoy the day, everyone.
Enjoy your loved ones, and if nothing else, be grateful you're not stuck doing the dishes.
I got to get in the oven.
