Rubin Report - Dave Rubin - What MLK Jr. Understood That Some Seem to Have Forgotten | Direct Message | Rubin Report Aired: 2022-01-17 Duration: 03:31 === Quick Update & MLK (03:30) === [00:00:00] Hey, good morning from the free state of Florida, everybody. [00:00:03] I wanted to give a quick update and then I wanted to talk about Martin Luther King Jr. [00:00:08] for just a moment. [00:00:10] Our plan was to be back in studio today. [00:00:13] There was one more slight delay with the house. [00:00:16] We are officially in tomorrow. [00:00:19] And we'll have internet Wednesday morning. [00:00:21] So what we're going to do is tomorrow night, Tuesday, we will do a test show. [00:00:25] We're going to try to rig together some crazy internet just to do a test show. [00:00:29] And we're going to set up the studio. [00:00:31] And then Wednesday at 11 a.m. [00:00:34] Eastern, The Rubin Report returns officially. [00:00:37] I really thank you guys for your patience. [00:00:39] It's been a crazy time over here, but all good, all good. [00:00:42] On this day, though, I really want to talk about Martin Luther King Jr. [00:00:45] for just a moment. [00:00:47] sort of uses him for their own political purposes on a day like today. [00:00:51] It's one of the sort of most miserable days that you can be online in a certain respect because it's [00:00:56] like Is that really what he would have believed and would he [00:01:00] have wanted someone like you to say that and everything else? [00:01:02] So I was trying to find a clip that I thought would just illustrate something in a broad sense [00:01:07] So first I want to throw to this clip. It's about 50 seconds [00:01:10] [Applause] [00:01:13] If I lived in China or even Russia or any totalitarian country [00:01:19] (coughing) [00:01:21] Maybe I could understand some of these illegal injunctions. [00:01:28] Maybe I could understand the denial of certain basic First Amendment privileges because they haven't committed themselves to that over there. [00:01:38] But somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. [00:01:43] Somewhere I read Of the freedom of speech, somewhere I read. [00:01:49] Of the freedom of press, somewhere I read. [00:01:52] That the greatness of America is the right to protest for rights. [00:02:02] Man, isn't that beautiful? [00:02:03] I don't even have to add much commentary to that. [00:02:06] It's like, even back then, we had the tools, we had the documents to free ourselves. [00:02:13] And that's what we've done consistently in America. [00:02:16] Expanded more freedom to more people. [00:02:19] And that's not how it is in totalitarian regimes. [00:02:20] And it's like, does it feel like maybe we're giving that stuff away right now? [00:02:22] Are we possibly giving it away? [00:02:23] How does our freedom of assembly feel right now? [00:02:25] that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was always talking about so that his children wouldn't be judged [00:02:30] by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. And that's not how it is [00:02:35] in totalitarian regimes. And it's like, does it feel like maybe we're giving that stuff away right [00:02:40] now? Are we possibly giving it away? How does our freedom of assembly feel right now? How does our [00:02:45] freedom of speech feel right now? That's for you to decide. [00:02:50] So on this day, I would say, maybe we've got all the tools we need. [00:02:55] Maybe we've got the documents we need. [00:02:57] Maybe we live in the country we're supposed to live in, but it's up to us to strengthen those things. [00:03:02] It's up to us to live up to those ideals. [00:03:05] And it's up to us to fight for the things, most importantly, equality. [00:03:09] The equality that Martin Luther King wanted more than anything else. [00:03:14] Okay, guys, I thank you for your time. [00:03:16] Oh, the sun is coming!
