Rubin Report - Dave Rubin - Dave Rubin on Gun Control | DIRECT MESSAGE | Rubin Report Aired: 2015-12-28 Duration: 03:19 === What I Think About Gun Control (02:55) === [00:00:02] All right, so we want to do something a little different here. [00:00:04] You know, I'm always interviewing people, so a lot of times their opinions get heard more than mine, which I actually like because I like listening to people and I like just being part of the conversation. [00:00:13] But a lot of times, especially on Twitter, you guys are asking me what I think about this or that or whatever the hot-button issue is of the day, and I do try to get as much of that stuff out there. [00:00:22] But we thought we'd take a bunch of those stuff, just the meat that everybody's talking about all the time [00:00:29] and make kind of short videos letting you know what I think about these things. [00:00:32] And what I think about these things in many cases has evolved [00:00:35] will continue to evolve. [00:00:36] I don't profess to be an expert in any specific one of these, [00:00:39] but I can tell you what I think about them as we do this right now in December of 2015. [00:00:45] So gun control, I thought would be a good one to start with 'cause I don't know that there's anything [00:00:51] that makes people crazier than gun control. [00:00:53] So look, basically, I believe in the Second Amendment. [00:00:55] I believe that people should have the right to bear arms. [00:00:59] That doesn't mean necessarily that you should have the capacity to kill and shoot hundreds of people within seconds and some of these crazy weapons. [00:01:09] Now look, when the framers of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights put this stuff in, it was because they had a healthy distrust of government after They left England and they didn't want to live under a king, right? [00:01:20] I have a lot of that healthy distrust of government. [00:01:22] I think government is epically dysfunctional, does not operate properly. [00:01:26] I don't trust our politicians at all. [00:01:28] I think that's clear. [00:01:30] But the idea that we're gonna have these militias that are one day gonna overtake the government [00:01:34] is kind of crazy. [00:01:36] So we have to figure out some sensible gun control. [00:01:39] Now, of course, this is impossible because the NRA basically makes it impossible [00:01:44] and they are an incredibly powerful lobby, but it also has to come from us. [00:01:48] And we do have to realize that not, a lot of times people on the right will frame this [00:01:52] as this is a slippery slope. [00:01:53] If you let them take our machine gun, next thing you know, they're gonna take the shotgun. [00:01:56] It's not, I don't think it's as slippery as that. [00:01:59] But again, I do believe that people should be allowed to have guns. [00:02:02] I also think that, you know, as I say often on the show, that two things can be true at the same time. [00:02:07] We do have a gun problem, right? [00:02:09] It is too easy to get these things. [00:02:11] But also at the same time, we really have a mental health problem, right? [00:02:14] Because if you go out, if you get a gun, whether you get it illegally, legally, however you take it from your parents, whatever you do, you don't go out and shoot people at a mall or at a college or at a holiday party unless you're mentally unhealthy, [00:02:27] right, unless you're mentally unstable. [00:02:29] So two things can be true at the same time, access is too much and the mental health issue [00:02:35] that we have, look, and if you don't think there's a mental health issue, and I know unfortunately [00:02:38] we don't talk about it on TV because why? [00:02:41] Yeah, because they're putting out the commercials for everything. === A Crazy Society Medicates (00:37) === [00:02:43] Every other commercial on cable news is for, you know, to get off cigarettes. [00:02:48] But if you take that, it's gonna make you poop. [00:02:50] And if you have restless leg syndrome, it might make you suicidal. [00:02:54] And, you know, you have a depression cloud following you, so take another antidepressant. [00:02:57] And all these things make us crazy. [00:02:59] So we're a crazy society, then we medicate ourselves too. [00:03:02] And in many, many, many of these shooting cases, we find out that these people are on these medications. [00:03:09] So yeah, I'm not, look, I am trying not to be an absolutist here, but that being said, all of that being said, yeah, I do fear a zombie invasion, so would I like to have a gun?
