Ron Paul Liberty Report - Weekly Update --- How We Can Stop the Coming War With Russia Aired: 2023-02-16 Duration: 03:49 === Lying Us Into War (03:28) === [00:00:00] Hello everybody and thank you for tuning in to the weekly report, How We Can Stop the Coming War with Russia. [00:00:07] 20 years ago this spring, the U.S. government was finally successful in lying us into war with Iraq. [00:00:14] Administration after administration had sanctioned and bombed and even invaded the country. [00:00:21] But finally, 20 years ago next month, the Bush administration unleashed shock and awe to flatten a country that did not and could not threaten the United States. [00:00:34] After eight years of battle in Iraq, perhaps as many as a million innocent people died, either directly or indirectly from Washington's aggression. [00:00:45] No one was brought before a tribunal over the lies and destruction. [00:00:49] No one even apologized. [00:00:51] Washington's puppet of the day, Ahmed Shalabi, brushed off the lies about Iraq's WMDs by proclaiming that the war promoters were heroes in error. [00:01:04] They got the regime changed, and that is all they cared about. [00:01:08] The propaganda machine pushing the Iraq war seemed overwhelming at the time. [00:01:15] At that time, several fellow members of Congress began to open communications across party lines to look for ways to stop the war. [00:01:25] From conservatives like the late Walter Jones and John Duncan, to progressives like Representative Dennis Kucinich and Jim McGovern, and so many more, we began to organize and strategize. [00:01:40] One tool we used to our advantage was the idea of an improbable coalition of the left and right uniting to oppose the war. [00:01:49] The media may not have been interested in our anti-war views, but they could not help themselves when presented with this man bites dog story. [00:02:00] Time and again, this unlikely group held press conferences, introduced various legislative tools, and communicated behind the scenes to try and grow the movement against the Iraq war. [00:02:13] Unfortunately, with the 2008 election of Barack Obama, who ran as an anti-war candidate, but then launched numerous military attacks abroad, that old coalition fell apart. [00:02:29] Some progressives excused Obama's militarism and lost interest in cooperating with conservatives. [00:02:36] Some conservatives were driven by their personal dislike of Obama and lost sight of the target. [00:02:43] Suddenly, as we face the once unimaginable prospect of a direct military conflict with nuclear-armed Russia over Ukraine, as well as my good friend and fellow libertarian Judge Andrew Lapolitano and so many more speakers from a broad political spectrum. [00:03:04] Many of us have watched with alarm as the Biden administration, with the enthusiastic backing of many congressional Republicans, has continuously escalated involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and now sits dangerously close to a direct hot war with the largest nuclear superpower on earth. === Join Us Still Matter (00:20) === [00:03:28] How did we get here? [00:03:31] Where are the same voices and cooler heads? [00:03:34] Just when it seemed they were nowhere to be found, here we are. [00:03:39] I hope as many people as possible will join us and continue to come together for this important cause. [00:03:46] We must join together while we still can.
