Ron Paul Liberty Report - Schools Closing? Kids At Home? Try This Great Educational Trick! Aired: 2020-03-22 Duration: 08:10 === Crisis in Education (07:39) === [00:00:00] Hello everybody and thank you for tuning in. [00:00:02] Today I'd like to talk a little bit about homeschooling and some of the crises that we're facing in our school system throughout this country. [00:00:10] The schools are being closed down. [00:00:12] I think they're overreacting and there's a bit of hysteria going on, but they're closing down. [00:00:17] The kids are at home and who knows how long this will be and the colleges have closed down. [00:00:23] I have a grandson that can't graduate because of a suspension of his classes and the graduation ceremony. [00:00:30] So I think it's very serious. [00:00:32] Of course, I take the position that I don't think the coronavirus is nearly as serious as some of the complications. [00:00:40] But with me today is Daniel McAdams, who of course you know because he's our co-host. [00:00:46] But he's also somebody that's had some personal experience with homeschooling. [00:00:50] And he's not worried about his school closing down. [00:00:53] He has a couple kids and they're getting homeschooled. [00:00:55] And that's what we want to talk about. [00:00:57] Of course, I've been involved in homeschooling for a while and we want to visit with you shortly. [00:01:02] Daniel. [00:01:03] Yeah, you know what I'm saying, Dr. Paul? [00:01:05] People are worried. [00:01:06] I'm seeing on Facebook and other social media. [00:01:08] Parents are feeling anxiety because their kids are home. [00:01:11] They may have sent their kids off to school and not really thought about lesson plans and education. [00:01:16] Now they're finding their kids are home. [00:01:18] They're probably watching a lot of cartoons or whatever. [00:01:19] They do video games. [00:01:21] The parents are getting tired of it. [00:01:23] They do understand that their kids need to start studying, but they really don't know how to go about it. [00:01:28] And that's why we kind of had the idea that maybe there's something that we can do to help take some of the anxiety out of having your kids home. [00:01:36] Yeah, and the program is something I really believe in because I want to do this long term. [00:01:42] Because I've never been very happy with our government school system. [00:01:46] But really, there's a lot of other people that aren't very happy with the government system too, because they would agree with us in many ways that this might be over a kill as far as closing down everything because the argument of how serious the coronavirus is is still up for discussion. [00:02:06] But anyway, the people are frightened about what to do. [00:02:11] And I started the program, the homeschooling program, the Ron Paul's curriculum, you know, shortly after I left Congress. [00:02:18] And Tom Woods and Garrett North were very instrumental in this. [00:02:22] And they have a good program. [00:02:24] So I'm very pleased with that. [00:02:26] And we have a significant number of people. [00:02:28] But I got to thinking, under these circumstances, there might be some other people that think, well, homeschooling is the way to at least consider and learn about it. [00:02:37] And that's what I wanted to visit with you on because there's so many disadvantages of what we're going through now. [00:02:45] Of course, the disadvantage is you had your kids being homeschooled a long time before you had to have the coronavirus involved. [00:02:53] And you were, I think, interested more academically of what was happening and getting a good education for your kids. [00:03:01] So this is something that's not going to get better fast. [00:03:04] I thought it should have never occurred to this extent because the coronavirus has not proven to be anything compared to influenza, you know, as far as the danger go. [00:03:17] But, you know, this program is unique. [00:03:20] It's a little bit different. [00:03:21] There's a lot of videos to watch. [00:03:24] It's something that students can operate on their own. [00:03:28] They don't need a whole lot of supervision from the parents. [00:03:33] And it's been very popular for the people that have used it. [00:03:38] Yeah, and that's one of the good things to offer folks when they have their kids home. [00:03:41] They don't know what to do. [00:03:42] Ron Paul curriculum. [00:03:45] The thing that we have used it and we do use it. [00:03:48] One of the things that's two of the great things about it, the first of all, it's scalable. [00:03:52] It's not all in or all out. [00:03:54] You know, for our son, for example, we use it as a supplement to his other education. [00:03:59] He took some courses at the college. [00:04:00] He did some courses with his mother and he did some Ron Paul curriculum courses. [00:04:04] So it's very scalable is one very good thing. [00:04:08] And the second thing is, especially when the kids get a little older, not even that much older, it's 98% self-taught. [00:04:15] So the parents, my wife was busy teaching our younger two. [00:04:19] She didn't have to worry about lesson plans and all of this with our son because it's self-taught. [00:04:24] And kids are so used to YouTubes and videos these days that it's very easy for them to get into. [00:04:30] And I tell you what, my son was very reluctant to start writing. [00:04:35] As soon as he started studying with Gary North and Tom Woods, two great masters, really, great educators, he was writing. [00:04:42] He was off the rails writing constantly. [00:04:46] So it does help students a lot. [00:04:48] And that's why we really wanted to visit with the audience and tell them this might be something you want to look into. [00:04:53] And who knows, you might want to do it permanently. [00:04:56] That's right. [00:04:56] You know, a few months ago, I guess it is now that I did a couple interviews with some of our very excellent students. [00:05:03] And I was very pleased with them because I don't deal with the students on a day-to-day basis. [00:05:08] And I did a couple interviews. [00:05:10] I want to make them available so after we finish here, if they click on, they'll be able to see these interviews with one young man or one young lady. [00:05:18] And I'll tell you what, they were really good. [00:05:21] You know, one of the concerns I had, well, two, about homeschooling before I knew about it, was one, socially they'll never adjust. [00:05:28] And I found out as I was on the campaign trail, it was the homeschooling kids that were very well adjusted. [00:05:33] They could stand up and ask questions like adults. [00:05:36] And the other thing that our family was very much into sports. [00:05:41] I think, oh, you're homeschooling, they'll never meet other kids. [00:05:44] They won't do anything athletically. [00:05:45] Your kids actually get out and do athletic things and it's a cooperation. [00:05:50] So it's a different image than I ever had. [00:05:54] The first time I came across homeschooling was in the 80s when they were trying to close it down. [00:05:58] And I still fear that too. [00:06:00] And that's why the program that I wanted was one that was designed not for a religious, narrow message, but a message of liberty where everybody could have a homeschooling group if they want so they know and understand the freedom philosophy, the economic policy, the Federal Reserve, the foreign policy. [00:06:19] And so it's very generalized in that sense, but not narrow. [00:06:23] But that doesn't rule out that we don't think people should want to have a homeschooling that teaches in a much more narrow sense. [00:06:30] That's the way schools originally started, you know, in our early history. [00:06:34] They had a religious connotation to it, and there were small groups and one-room schoolhouses. [00:06:40] And it was quite a bit different. [00:06:42] So I do hope that as we finish that people will click on and especially watch some of these interviews. [00:06:48] And I think that the program that you mentioned, that there's quite a few lessons that you can take if you're interested more to see what the lessons are like. [00:06:57] And there's 47 suggestion programs in there. [00:07:01] Yeah, you know, you did mention one really interesting thing is that there's nothing stopping you from forming a homeschool co-op using the Ron Paul curriculum. [00:07:07] And in fact, we know people that do that. [00:07:09] So you can join together with other kids. [00:07:11] But so we would just, you know, encourage people, just click on ronpaulcurriculum.com, have a look, have a look at what's offered, look at how much they have on sample to try out. [00:07:20] And as Dr. Paul mentioned, there's a very special program, rpcstudyskills.com. [00:07:26] And we'll have links in the description to these and to the two videos Dr. Paul said. [00:07:31] But the rpcstudy skills.com will is a series of 47 lessons to help teach your kids how to study and how to read. === Homeschool Co-Op Opportunities (00:31) === [00:07:39] And it's completely free. [00:07:40] So what do you have to lose? [00:07:42] Give it a try, right? [00:07:43] Right. [00:07:44] Well, very good. [00:07:45] Daniel, it's nice visiting with you because you've had experience with it too. [00:07:49] I have to tell you that there was a time when homeschooling really didn't even exist when I was raising our kids and all. [00:07:56] But I'm a strong believer in it and something I want to promote, and it's something that is very long-lasting. [00:08:02] I want to thank everybody that tuned in today for this special review of homeschooling and the conditions that we're facing today in our educational system.
