Hello everybody and thank you for tuning in to the Ron Paul Liberty Report.
With me today is Daniel McAdams.
Thank you Dr. Paul.
Good to have you here.
I got a recent email today about a news item and the item has to do with FIFA, the organization that organizes international football, which is soccer to us and it's a big deal.
But it's not as big here in this country.
But nevertheless, there's this major so-called scandal going on.
And they said over quite a few years there were some kickbacks and bribes in order to get these organizations to come.
It might be just the cost of doing business.
But it's a significant amount of money.
And if there were bribes, there was obviously somebody breaking some laws there.
And this is an organization that manages international football in the big events when they have these big tournaments.
They're big.
Yeah, like the World Cup.
Yeah, with a World Cup.
And so there were some votes there that they're questioning that people were taking.
The people who were doing the voting was getting a little money under the table, which is very important.
And the Swiss recognize this, and they've done some investigation.
But guess what?
Now, the question I got from one of our viewers is, what do I think about the idea that all of a sudden the United States has taken over this investigation?
Yeah, it's amazing.
You know, on the orders of the U.S. Justice Department, Swiss police raided a hotel in which these national representatives for FIFA were staying six in the morning, and they started arresting foreign nationals to send them back to the U.S. to face justice in the U.S.
So they're non-citizens, non-U.S. residents.
They're being snatched from Switzerland.
Well, even if we recognize this is important, and the Swiss certainly has a justification, but our justification for getting involved is they deal in our banks.
They make deposits in our banks.
But everybody does because our banks are international.
So they could use this, any justification, any place.
So we throw our military weight around, and then we become the policeman of the world.
Now we're becoming the judge of the world, and all they have to do is use our banks, and we use this as a justification.
And even countries that used to be pretty independent, like the Swiss, they roll over and say, oh, okay, take over, and we'll send these people to your country, and you can prosecute them.
This is something that bothers me.
And these provisions of the law were originally designed to fight terrorism.
You know, I remember when they were passing all of the USA Patriot Act and these things, you were warning at the time that these are going to be used not just for terrorism.
And that is the problem.
They can't see past their nose.
But I think some of it is planned that way because when there's a crisis, the American people can be galvanized.
You have to do something, do something.
But the people who want to get control and expand their powers, you know, use it as an opportunity.
And you know, as well as I do that the Patriot Act wasn't brand new on 9-12.
You know, what was it, a couple weeks, and it was passed.
Not that we had any time to really study it, but there were a lot of plans before that.
So it's individuals who want more control and so often control not only of our own people, but worldwide.
It's taxes.
They don't want to miss a penny of taxes because government's big and it's very expensive.
And also financial.
And they use all kinds of excuses like drugs.
But then, terrorism.
And that means that we're all potential terrorists.
And that's why we get that treatment at the airports these days.
Exactly.
Can you imagine the resentment in the rest of the world if you're a non-U.S. citizen, say you're from El Salvador, you live in El Salvador, and you have to worry that the U.S. police are going to arrest you on something like this and bring you back home?
Not even the Soviet Union at its prime.
They may have been able to assassinate someone, but they would have...
But they never assumed the power.
And that's the danger of this power.
And I think it's somewhat like this is, I don't know how accurate this analogy is, but what if you were a baseball player from the Caribbean and you were playing in the major leagues and there was a major league fight about how the players were treated and there was a big lawsuit going on and there was a scandal.
Would we expect a foreign country to come in and settle a dispute in baseball negotiations?
I hated it even when the Congress got involved.
You know, Congress had no right to get involved in some of these disputes.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it's very interesting.
But I think some of these things come about because of distraction.
This is, like I say, there's some importance here.
Swiss has to deal with it.
And maybe one American citizen could be involved and that sort of thing.
But that's minor.
I think it's a distraction from the big issues.
I mean, just look at the saturations these last couple days on this issue and who's going to be punished.
And, you know, there was one statement that we've already indicted 14, and there's going to be a lot more over this whole issue.
And then when you think of, I guess if we sat down and wrote a list of issues that they don't deal with, what about the way the military industrial complex money operates?
There are so many kickbacks for that, and they're lobbyists.
I mean, the whole process is corrupt in that, because when government is powerful and they pass out the money, they're susceptible to bribery.
And what about the people who got bailed out after 9-11?
You know, after the 2008, yeah.
I mean, these are trillions and trillions.
And they, yeah, we'll investigate it, but do you have any idea of how many people have gone to jail over this?
Zero.
Zero.
It's sort of like how many people go to jail for torturing somebody and how many people go to jail or become non-citizens if they tell us the truth about what our government's doing.
Blow the whistle.
Yeah, there's plenty of problems that I think we should be looking at and investigating, but that would mean we'd have to investigate the government.
You know, what they have done.
But that's not our joy.
But it's the job of the people to know.
And one healthy thing going on right now is people are growing in their distrust of government.
And that has to start there.
And I like it when people are starting to say that whenever they have a commission or investigation, like a Kennedy Commission, it turns out that 80% of people don't believe government anymore.
And even on 9-11, you know, we're begging and pleading to get those 28 pages out to explain how Saudi Arabia might have been involved in financing, but that is kept secret from us.
So that is where the real problems are.
But if the people can be oriented to looking at this and seeing that this is big stuff, but is it just one station that pushes this?
Every single station, every single newspaper, a New York Times front page article, USA Today, and I just can't believe that the American people were begging and pleading to find out, well, I wonder how this vote's going.
I wonder where this next big football game's going to occur.
You know, they're not doing that.
So anyway, it's an interesting topic, and I think my biggest beef with this is the fact that we don't have jurisdiction in this area.
And if the people ever wake up around the world, they're going to be very resentful to us to throwing our weight around militarily and now judicially and economically.
And that we place on sanctions and that we use the banking system and our power to do this.
I think that long-term is a bad strategy.
Short-term, it makes people feel good because some of the neocons say, Oh, we're an exceptional nation and we're spreading American exceptionalism.
Well, there are a few of us who figure that that is an exception and we don't buy into that.
