Sheila Gunn-Reid addresses scheduling delays before dissecting three Rebel News videos and their YouTube comments. She analyzes comedian Ben Bankus's claims regarding "cancel culture" versus his sold-out Lethbridge show, Nanos polling data showing 52% of Canadians desire fewer immigrants, and a Whitby Town Council confrontation where Councillor Victoria Bozanovsky labeled opposition to foreign workers as "racist." The segment concludes by highlighting viewer frustrations over perceived government failures in immigration enforcement and the weaponization of empathy against critics. [Automatically generated summary]
So I'm turning the show over to you folks at home.
I'm Sheila Gunn-Reed, and you're watching The Gunn Show.
I'm just going to be honest with you.
It has been a hell of a week and it's Wednesday.
And so I have had some scheduling conflicts with at least three separate potential guests that would have been on the show today.
And then it is a week's worth of committee hearings.
And then you regular viewers know I also host the live stream every single day.
I try to do a video every single day.
And it's been order, paper, question, return week in the House of Commons.
So I'm trying furiously to get through dozens of those, to write them up, and try to beat my friends at Blacklocks to them.
I think I've been successful so far.
And then I just recorded this whole thing that you're seeing right now.
I just recorded one version of it without audio.
I can't even tell you how frustrating this day has been.
But as is always the case, when I am overwhelmed with work, I know that I can count on our viewers at home to give me content to give to you.
So here's what I'm going to do today.
I'm going to randomly pick three Rebel News videos.
I'm going to show you a clip of the video.
And then I'm going to go to the YouTube comments and we're going to look at them together.
I don't know what else to do, guys.
And I'm just so sorry to the producers who are producing this show because it's coming in late.
They need a couple hours to get it together and they just want to go home.
And I have been an absolute terror to them today.
So let's get into it.
First video that came up to me is one that I'm happy to comment on.
So Adrea Humphrey met up with comedian of, I think, international renown, Ben Bankus, when he was doing a show in New Westminster, BC.
Now, the thing is about Ben, he has been subject to venues canceling on him after the cancel culture mob goes after the venues or somebody within the venue has decided that they are taken in by the social justice mind virus and they no longer believe in artistic expression and free speech, which is strange for arts venues to do like, you know, theaters and stuff.
Seems counterintuitive to me to the whole reason they exist.
But that has been the case.
Now, I should, in full disclosure, tell you that about two weekends ago now, I went to Lethbridge to see Ben Bankus.
My friend, Lise Merle, you know her.
She is on the live stream with me on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
And then she does a lot of election live streams with us.
She drove in from Regina.
I drove in from my undisclosed location in northeastern Alberta.
We went to Lethbridge and it was a sold out show.
In fact, I had a little difficulty getting two tickets and there were no protesters, but that's because we're Alberta and we're a little different here.
BC and other places across this country, they like to cancel on Ben.
So I'm going to show you a clip of this video here and then we'll go to the YouTube comments.
Okay.
To all the woke people who are mad at my show, why don't you just come and just relax?
We'll take care of you.
It's not like we go to woke comedy shows and try and get them canceled because we disagree with what they're saying.
I mean, everyone's allowed and entitled to their opinion.
You ever have the hate flow through you?
You're just under shoppers and all you want to do is go, Crashing immigrants, indigenous people, a very small group of loud people who are just a little out of their minds.
One of the best comics out there right now, he has so much energy and he's speaking the truth.
And these people, they just are on TikTok all day and they honestly just need to grow up and download Twitter and watch a drum strike because that's actually what you know what I mean.
Like that's like actually a problem.
All Ben's doing is creating opportunities.
He's creating opportunities for people to be happy.
He's creating opportunities for comics like myself and Harrison Marks.
I was also on the show.
The things that are happening here, like the way that Ben has been to try to cancel him, it's wild to me because like coming from the States, you think everyone has freedom of speech, but like here, it's not really that free here.
You know what I mean?
They're more concerned about policing the type of content that is at their venue and they think that that's justified because they get taxpayer money.
But the reality is I'm a taxpayer.
Why?
And those people actually probably who are protesting my show, they're probably tax refund people.
They're not owing money at the end of the year.
So they shouldn't get a say at all.
I'm going to assume the baby's gender.
Is that a liberal in there?
He's not hurting anybody, for lack of a better term.
We're young comics that a lot of other comedians in this country and other places don't give opportunities.
And, you know, when people cancel him, they don't realize that they're canceling a lot more than that.
They're canceling people's good time.
And I think that it is ridiculous that they come from a stance of, you know, we are the community, but it's like there's also another half of the community that does deserve to laugh.
People are stupid.
This is comedy.
Like, this is that you're supposed to laugh at this stuff.
And it's like, if you don't, then stay home or you should come to a show.
You also talked about, I don't know if it's a concern, with the BC Human Rights Tribunal and what that might mean for your comedy.
Do you want to reiterate that a bit?
I mean, if you want to watch the comedy I'm going to talk about, it's all going to be online at some point.
Once probably once I'm out of the country, I'll post it.
Once you get back to Texas, yeah, we'll post it then.
But I don't even know what a human rights tribunal is.
I mean, what human rights are being taken away by watching a comedy show?
The people who claim their rights are being impacted are people who never intended to come to the show anyway.
So what are they worried about?
Somebody's going to watch my show and then see them at the grocery store and do my joke in front of them.
I mean, what are we talking about here?
So I think it's time for people to grow up, be adults.
This is entertainment for adults.
Just relax and have a laugh.
Like stop being so uptight.
People need to realize that there's only so much positive stuff in the world.
And this is one of them having a laugh and enjoying yourself.
Like that's what we need.
And that's why they hate the ice agents because they're all Republicans.
Everybody who's an ice agent is a Republican.
There's no Democrat ICE agent.
Right here.
You're a Democrat.
All right.
So let's see what you folks had to say.
J Dog12345J says if a joke is offensive, that means it's a success.
That is true.
And usually, jokes poke or sting at people because there's some truth to them, right?
So when Ben is talking about the problems of immigration and Tim Hortons, there's some truth there.
Offended people.
Sorry, South Pot 788 says, offended people are responsible for ruining society.
Well, they sure make it a lot less funny, don't they?
More boring.
And I've got a real problem with people who are perfectly fine with, let's say, Naked men gyrating their genitals out in public at the local pride parade, taking offense to grown adults paying money to go see a comedian perform.
Right?
Like, if you don't like Ben or his jokes, you know what you do?
You just don't go.
But why stop everybody else from seeing him?
You know, I don't like the pride parade, so I don't go downtown.
Now, if I had to go downtown, like for work or something, I would be slightly annoyed that these public spaces had naked hedonists all over it if I couldn't avoid it.
But you can most definitely avoid a Ben Bankist show by not going, right?
And if you think that enough people feel like you, then nobody's going to go to Ben's show, right?
Because he's just so offensive.
But the problem is he keeps selling out these shows.
So maybe you're the loser if you're offended.
Maybe you're wrong.
G-Money 6211 says they are offended by everything but ashamed of nothing.
Fools.
Yes.
Yes, that is true.
These are the same people who make no apologies for their gross hedonistic lifestyles and sexual habits.
And they should have a little bit more shame, shouldn't they?
Kale Campbell, 5890 says, and no one is forcing you to buy the tickets.
Exactly.
If you don't like Ben, might I suggest you not go to his shows?
And if you see what I'm doing there, I'm taking a screenshot so the editors know which comments I'm referring to.
Raymond Shields, 4241 says, well, what happened to freedom of speech?
Well, this is Canada good sir and we don't really have much of that.
That, I mean, we have no First Amendment and our charter rights are subject to reasonable limitations.
And who decides what's reasonable?
Well, the government, not you or I, not society, but the government.
They decide what's reasonable.
And again, if you don't like Ben, you don't like his impersonations of Olivia Chow or Teresa Tam or the Chinese spy balloon or the human monkey hybrid born in a lab in Wuhan, China, or Justin Trudeau, you know what you can do?
Go watch something else.
It's real easy.
Bill Parsons, RB3VD, says, as long as children aren't in the audience, if you don't like it, stay away.
Being offended doesn't make you right.
Thank you, Bill.
Yeah, and there's no kids in this.
It's a, oh, I guess BC is plus 19, but in Alberta, an 18-plus show, there's no kids there.
These are just consenting adults.
And I thought the left was all about consenting adults, right?
Everything's fine as long as it's consenting adults, even if it's gross, hedonistic, and bad for society.
But people are willingly parting with their money, giving their money to Ben to laugh.
Stay out of the middle of that transaction if you don't like it.
Tony Camiso, 4096 says, need more comedians like Ben in Canada.
Just be brave.
You know, in Alberta, we have our Danger Cats or comedy troupe.
They're super edgy.
They get canceled from venues all the time because of some of the merch they sell or because of some of the jokes they tell.
And the same mob that goes up against Ben has been canceling the Danger Cats for even longer.
And, You know, it makes comedy boring when you can't sort of push the limits of edginess.
And if you want clean comedy, it's out there.
There's lots of like left-wing comedy.
I find it very boring.
Have you watched late-night TV these days?
Boring.
It's all the same.
It's just Democrat talking points to a laugh track.
But it's out there for you.
Why can't we have something for ourselves?
Pop Dog 3703 says, I just laugh at the perpetually offended.
They try to ruin things for normal people because they are psychotic.
Wow.
Yeah, I mean, you could laugh at the perpetually offended for sure, but the problem is they are perpetually effective because venues don't have enough guts to stand up and say, ho, ho, ho, hang on.
Our entire industry, the entertainment industry, is built on free speech and pushing boundaries.
Maybe we should allow free speech and push the boundaries here.
But they never do because they're cowards.
Okay, last comment on this video.
Harold Head 7555 says, F them if they can't take a joke, Bette Midler.
I'm happy to land on Bette Midler here as the last comment because Bette Midler is a left-wing lunatic most days.
And so she would make that defense for herself and her cohort, but she would probably not stand up for the rights of Ben Bankus to offend people.
I'm only presuming, but I've seen enough of Bette Midler in recent years.
She's got the TDS real hard to know that she probably wouldn't stand up for the rights of right-wing comedians to offend the establishment.
Okay, let's move on to the next video.
Let's do one of my own.
How about my video?
Why Questioning Workers Is Racist00:15:25
That's the next one that just popped up in my Rebel News feed on YouTube, where I discuss recent Nanos polling data that shows that Canadians want less immigration.
And when I say Canadians, I'm not talking about left-wing Canadians or right-wing Canadians.
I'm talking about all Canadians, regardless of how they vote, and across most demographics.
Of course, the boomers are causing a problem there.
And again, don't write me letters if you voted conservative.
I'm not talking about you as a boomer, like you're the conservative boomers.
You're different.
But across demographics, voting demographics, almost everybody, including the NDP, want less immigration.
Watch this.
Now, what has this government done?
This government has taken back control of immigration.
This government has reduced the number of temporary workers in this country by 50%.
The demanders of asylum seekers by one-third.
And we're moderate.
According to Nanos, 52% of Canadians say that we should accept fewer immigrants and temporary residents.
Only 9% say to increase immigration.
Nearly half of Canadians say immigration is changing the country in ways they don't like.
About two-thirds say newcomers need to integrate into Canada more across the prairies, Ontario, and Quebec.
Majority say the same thing: reduce the immigration numbers.
And there's one more number: 28% of young Canadians say they're skipping meals because they can't afford food.
So here it is all together.
Those numbers I mentioned off the top.
18% student unemployment, 1 million foreign students.
81% of those foreign students are working.
765,000 new arrivals every single year.
52% of Canadians say this is too much.
That's the situation.
So why do people keep voting for the party that caused this mess?
Why are we trusting the liberals to fix what they broke?
For Rebel News, I'm Sheila Gunry.
All right, so let's go to the comment section.
Zap Zazotis.
Spazzotis says it's been too high for the last 20 years.
Okay, yeah, you're about right.
Where's the lie?
Next one.
Bill Cox says, Bill Cox 8870 says, no temporary foreign workers.
Every temporary foreign worker means a Canadian will go unemployed.
That is true.
And especially young Canadians, because these temporary foreign workers are not really coming in to do fill skilled labor shortages.
And I don't believe there's such thing as a skilled labor shortage.
There's just a skilled labor training shortage.
But most of these positions are in like food service retail, summer jobs, farm labor.
Those are kids' jobs and summer jobs for students.
And when you are dumping all these people in, you are unemploying Canadian youth.
Unemployment for Canadian youth in some parts of this country is like in excess of 20%.
That's insane.
We are going to cause a skills gap, which will harm our economy for decades to come because we have an entire generation that doesn't even know how to work.
Your first job teaches you how to work and sets you up for the rest of your career.
We have a generation who doesn't have that.
That's bad, real bad.
Cynthia Carruthers, 8680 says, this government is selling us out to corporations and foreign workers.
Nothing is for Canada.
It's true.
It's true.
This is immigration policy by the folks at Tim Hortons.
Right?
It's set up to only help Tim Hortons or the likes of Tim Hortons.
Have you been to a lube shop lately?
And have your oil changed?
Have you seen a Canadian high school student there lately?
I have not.
But yeah, this is not, this does not work.
None of this works to the benefit of Canadians.
All right, next one.
Milton Bates, 6425 says, we need to start pausing all immigration, deporting millions of people here illegally, and passing legislation to ban non-citizens from holding public office.
We have outside interests infiltrating our most trusted institutions, create bureaucracies that defend their interests and not the interests of citizens.
Where's the lie?
Everyone says, oh, we don't want ICE-style enforcement here in Canada.
Why not?
Why not?
The longer we wait to send these people back where they came from, and we don't need to do it mean.
We just have to say, okay, get in the bus.
We're going to the airport.
The longer we wait, the more damage is done to the Canadian economy and to Canadian youth.
Full stop.
So every minute that we don't do something is a minute that a Canadian kid is hurt.
Okay.
Ray JG1PC says, I hope Canadians realize that their government won't stop the immigration process, even if they say they have.
We know they haven't.
We know they haven't.
In fact, there was committee hearings this week where they have deported zero IRGC officials in this country.
They don't know how many of them there are.
They know that there are 24 undergoing, you know, like immigration review.
One has been ordered deported.
He's fighting his deportation, which means he remains in Canada.
So, yeah.
When they say, oh, we're getting a handle on immigration, where?
Show me where.
Show me something tangible that you've done.
I still go to the coffee shop and there's not a Canadian working there at all.
And until I see Canadian kids there, I don't think anything is fixed.
Laudor Chen 9897 says, it was never Canada bringing them in.
It was a globalist UN doing it with Canada just being the puppet country under their globalist agenda.
I mean, it benefits the liberals.
The liberals have been in power for 11 years.
They have broken our orderly, rules-based immigration system, and they don't care because they see every single person as a future voter.
And it makes us more reliant on the government because we, not we, but a lot of people look around and say, oh my God, everything is bad.
Who will fix it?
Maybe the government will fix it.
Let's give them more power to fix it.
Let's let them take more of our money to fix it.
And so it benefits a bureaucracy that wants to grow itself if they allow the problems to fester because then they become they get to grow bigger and have more power to fix the problem they created.
Wash, rinse, repeat, wash, rinse, repeat.
It's a vicious cycle.
We're just the victims of it.
BrassMonkey5184 says we need to kick out everyone with an expired visa, be it work or student, train our local population and give incentives to get training done.
Yes, yes, yes.
But also disincentivize and punish companies that are not hiring Canadians when they're abusing the temporary foreign worker system.
Like we incentivize these companies to use cheap foreign labor.
That has to stop yesterday.
Three days ago, a year ago.
All right, next video comes to us by way of my friend David Menzies.
He went to a Whitby Town Council meeting, wherein a counselor there says that if you raise the issue that I was just talking about, temporary foreign workers, expired visas, fake foreign students, fake refugees, if you bring that up at Whitby Town Council, well, some Karen on the council is going to call you garbage, xenophobic, and racist.
Take a listen.
Hey, folks, if you are against the temporary foreign workers program, then Whitby Town Councillor says you are racist, xenophobic, garbage.
The motion that was put forward was absolute garbage.
It was offensive.
It was xenophobic.
Tell me why it is if someone questions the temporary foreign worker program, they're racist and garbage.
Well, excuse me.
I think she's out to lunch on the subject.
One counselor, Victoria Bosinovsky, she said, if you are against the temporary foreign worker program, you are a xenophobic, racist garbage.
I'm going to be as frank as possible.
The motion that was put forward was absolute garbage.
It was offensive.
It was xenophobic.
And I had serious issues with it.
It was illegal, to say the least.
And I didn't think it was fair as a counselor to be forced to sit here and debate something that was xenophobic and racist.
And that was my opinion.
I made it publicly.
I made it privately and I shared it with anybody who asked.
So if we want to go ahead and make that cost public, I have no problem doing so.
you can pin the entire cost on me because I just think it's incredibly unfair that we're asked to sit here and we're asked to talk about federal policy that has nothing to do with us.
The town of Whitby, I understand, has a buy Canadian program, so they're okay with buying Canadian goods and services, but they're not okay with employing Canadians.
Well, yeah, and I take quite offense to Councillor Bozanovsky's statements because Whitby's made up of all kinds of demographics.
We have all kinds of different people who come from different parts of the world.
And quite frankly, the fact that she can't even fathom the fact that there are some workers who come here and are taken advantage of, and perhaps that needs to be investigated.
And why would we want our tax dollars going to support potential employers who are manipulating employees?
When we're brought forth with motions such as what was brought forward tonight regarding the temporary foreign workers program, there's been councillors at this very table who have labeled it as racist, xenophobic when all Canadians come from all races and it affects every single person in Whitby and it also has the potential to protect people who come to Whitby who could be potentially in a vulnerable situation.
I do appreciate your feedback and we're not talking about this motion and we're not going to be advocating for a position that when the motion's been simply giving an example of one that was brought forward and one that was denied.
There are no jobs out there.
Kids can't get part-time jobs.
Last June the National Post ran a feature called the death of the summertime job.
But what do we see?
We see temporary foreign workers, I'm sorry to call it as I see it, taking those jobs that once went to Canadians.
So what is she talking about when she uses the word xenophobic?
Well I think she's out to lunch on the subject.
She hasn't fully researched it properly as far as I'm concerned and that's a shame because you're right it's affecting our Canadian youth.
I have children within the city of Whitby who have been trying for jobs.
My one daughter, it took her almost two years to find her first part-time job.
That's just unacceptable.
And the way I have been silenced, because I've been here three times to talk to this, so I feel that I've been silenced from speaking about the temporary foreign worker program's systemic exploitation and impact on the community.
Again, I'm going to, no, Mr. Alford, we're not speaking about the temporary foreign worker program.
Please subscribe if you haven't already done so and hit the bell for notifications.
And does this councillor even understand the meaning of the word racist?
Because as you adroitly said, Canada is made up of all races.
Why would she play the racism card when it comes to speaking out against the temporary foreign worker program?
I can't even understand where she would come with that because, you know, as I had said, and even our council, our council is made up of people from all different races.
Is she saying that they're not like all equal on our council?
Like, that's just wrong.
And, you know, folks, we did try to get the councillor to explain in her own words what she meant by that.
Suddenly she got camera shy.
Check it out.
Oh, Councillor Bozanowski.
How you doing?
It's David Mentis from Red Bull News.
I'm just wondering, can you tell me why it is if someone questions the temporary foreign worker program, they're racist and garbage?
What?
Excuse me.
I'm just making sure you don't bother the lady.
I'm scrubbing her, please.
Hey, Ken, what are you doing?
You're impeding her path to her.
No, I'm not.
I'm scrubbing her.
Assault me again, okay?
I'm walking in a straight line.
By the way, the door's locked, and then I can't get back.
Hey, James.
I'm going outside.
I'm going to ask you to leave the building out, please.
What are you talking about?
You're chasing her.
She said she doesn't want to talk to you.
I want you to leave the building.
On whose authority?
I'm the security supervisor for the town of Whitney.
Okay, then.
Well, the building's closed.
It's after 11 o'clock.
Please leave the building.
Why are there about what?
A dozen people right there?
Because you're distracting me from asking them to leave.
Yeah, she got camera shy, and that thug over there got Hansy.
He's a security guard physically bumping into me.
The last time I saw this kind of overreach at a council meeting was in Pickering.
I think I've met you there.
Typically get frog marched out of those council meetings because of their no recording policy.
If you had Councillor Bozanovsky's ear, what would you tell her?
So Arpad Sorba2053 says, if you elect trash to council, you usually get garbage.
Now, I don't want to call this woman a name, but I will say that there is something wrong with the white middle-aged woman demographic.
And I say this because I'm part of that demographic, but like the conservative boomers, I'm not necessarily part of that demographic.
You know what I mean?
There's something wrong with those white liberal voting middle-aged middle-class women.
They try to call everybody names.
They will take their family minivan, put their kids in daycare, send them to the sitter, take the family minivan down to the ICE protest in the United States and fight for the rights of the sex offenders from foreign countries to stay in the country.
It's weaponized empathy, and it is the worst kind.
It's so destructive.
Calling Everyone Names Again00:03:46
All right.
Dennis DeLong says, women like that are running our country into the ground.
Yeah.
Look.
Again, moreover to the point I just made.
There is something very wrong with the white liberal lady, liberal voter.
And they use this like new, like, shut up.
And how they tell you to shut up is they call you the worst possible thing that they can find.
And that is, oh, you're a xenophobe.
Oh, you're racist.
Oh, you're a Nazi.
Oh, you're a bigot.
And I think that doesn't mean anything anymore to people.
I think to most people.
I mean, people used to recoil in horror when they were called those names.
And now when I hear that from a crazy lady, I'm like, I don't even bother trying to explain myself.
Because I don't, like, for example, with the temporary foreign worker program, I don't care actually where you're from.
If you're taking a Canadian job, I don't want you here.
You can go back to wherever you came from.
I don't care where that is.
Get out.
But it's, I don't think calling people names is working on them anymore at all.
And if it is working on you, I hope it doesn't work on you anymore.
Because, well, based on that Nanos polling, people want less of this.
And so she can scream.
She can call you names.
But who cares?
Straight up, who cares?
I don't care about her.
I care about my kids being able to get jobs.
So just like water off the duck's back.
Cyrus Lee says she's too emotional.
She shouldn't even be in this position.
Okay, there's something to be said for that.
She is like out of control of her emotions.
Regular viewers of the live stream know that I am not particularly emotional.
And my best friend Lise is very emotional.
I hate the idea of people knowing that I have feelings and even worse, knowing what those feelings are.
It just grosses me out.
But I realize that I am the exception and very much not the rule these days.
And if you're in a position of power and you want to garner respect, you need to be in control of your faculties at all times.
And that lady was not in control of her faculties.
Her faculties were not even in the room with her.
She was just overly emotional and unhinged.
And I think if you're a decision maker, by and large, you really should have those things in check.
And I'm going to be real with you here.
That is a lady problem.
Again, I'm the exception, not the rule.
It is a lady problem to be a little bit more emotional.
It just is biologically speaking.
We're wired that way.
Makes us better moms, of course, but probably poorer leaders.
And I'm okay with that.
I'd rather be a better mom anyway.
John Near 5016 says, the trouble with temporary is that it ain't.
Yeah, for sure.
That is the problem with the temporary foreign work program is that it sure ain't temporary because these people come here, they either get here and then their permit runs out and then they never leave or and they just like blow in the wind and maybe marry a Canadian and then have a Canadian anchor baby, which sponsors everybody else in their family into the country.
Or they decide that even though they are from the Indian subcontinent, which is the world's largest democracy, they decide that they like it here better.
The Temporary Foreign Work Trap00:01:47
And so they claim false refugee status.
You cannot be a refugee from India.
You just can't.
Sorry.
Yes, I get it.
That's nicer here.
And we'd like to keep it that way.
And so they make false refugee claims and then might take 10 years to go all the way through.
Heck, you might even be an IRGC terrorist and still fight your deportation.
And as we found out through the mountain of order paper questions that I had the displeasure of going through this week, over 90% of immigration review board hearings never have an immigration bureaucrat show up to contest them, which means they're being rubber stamped and unopposed.
I thought that was their job to show up to these things, but they're not even showing up.
So you can just come in, claim refugee status, and probably just get rubber stamped in anyway, because the bureaucrats are not doing their jobs.
So there's that.
Okay, guys.
I think that's the show for today.
Sorry in advance to my beloved producers who have to put the show together for you.
It's late and it is going to be clip heavy, but it was just an absolute catastrophe of a two days.
But my viewers are here.
You're loyal.
You're here and you pay for this.
So regardless of whatever struggles I had on my end, I must deliver.
And you guys know that I've never missed a show.
Even when I'm traveling for work, I've never missed a show and I refuse to miss a show.
That's the kind of work ethic that I bring to Rebel News.
So thanks to Olivia and whoever has the onerous task of putting this thing together.
Thanks to those of you who tune in.
