Welcome to today's edition of the Rush 24-7 podcast.
And greetings to you, music lovers, thrill seekers, conversationalists all across the fruited plane.
This program may be a lot of things.
But one thing it is not is boring.
And you know why it's not boring is because I'm not.
A boring guy.
Great to have you here, folks, as always.

Some time ago, maybe a year ago, at least I think a year ago, certainly within nine months.
This is a, by the way, a shout out to those of you students.
It's about your student loans.
A year ago, nine months ago, we were told that the House Republicans and Democrats were working diligently to reduce a scheduled doubling of the student loan interest rate.
You remember this discussion.
The student loan interest rate, because of prior legislation was scheduled to double this summer, to go from somewhere around 3% to 6.8%.
But we were told that this wasn't going to hold.
Obviously, Republicans and Democrats, they were playing a cat and mouse game on this.
But the upshot of it was that by this summer, that legislation would be rewritten and the interest rate would stay the same.
And the argument, if you recall, centered around the usual Washington budget talk about how there was going to be a cut in the student loan rate.
When there wasn't going to be a cut in the student loan rate at all.
All that was going to happen was it was going to remain the same.
3.4%.
It was scheduled to go to 6.8%.
And it was the Democrats who wrote that in, by the way.
It was Democrat legislation that doubled the student loan interest rate, 3.4 to 6.8%.
The Republicans came along and uh I forget the exact wording on this and what the uh what the argument centered over.
Centered over whether the rate was indeed gonna uh be held.
I think the Democrats wanted to argue they were gonna cut it, and the Republicans wanted it to remain the same or what it the bottom line is that the student loan rate is going to double.
It is gonna go from 3.4 to 6.8%.
And here's the reason why.
Congress has figured out they need that additional money to spend on Obamacare.
Okay.
I have two stories.
The first story is from a relatively new website called Campus Reform.
The Affordable Care Act is set to cost students enrolled in the government's loan program eight point seven billion dollars in extra interest over the next decade, according to a report published by the CBO.
By the way, I got a couple of three stories in the stack today about how health care costs are just skyrocket.
There is one in particular that in my mind constitutes journalistic malpractice because this was known.
It was known during the debate on Obamacare.
It was known what the costs of insurance was going to do were gonna do.
It was known that premiums were gonna go up, but Obama was out there saying they're gonna come down $2,500.
And of course, the media, just an extension of the regime.
And so whatever Obama was saying is whatever they were reporting, they weren't challenging it, even though they knew.
There was no way any cost associated with Obamacare is coming down.
Zilch, zero Nada, it's all going up.
And now we're starting, since there's nothing that can be done about it now.
Now we're getting the truth.
And one of these stories involves the student loan program.
The Affordable Care Act, Obamacare.
By the way, have you noticed in the drive-by media, they're referring to it as Obamacare less and less now.
And as the Affordable Care Act more and more, because there's nothing about it that's affordable, and they don't want any negatives to attach to Obama, so his name is coming off of it in terms of how it's used in the media, and Affordable Care Act is what it's being called, which is what it is.
It's official legislative title, but it's bogus because nothing about it is affordable.
And just to repeat for you, Obamacare is set to cost students enrolled in the government's loan program, student loan program, $8.7 billion in extra interest over the next 10 years.
And this is from the CBO.
Now, if the savings were kept inside the loan program instead of transferred to Obamacare, they could allow the Department of Education to lower student interest rates to 5.3%.
The nearly $9 billion in increased student loan costs, debt, is being used to pay for Obamacare, and it is derived from $61 billion the government says it will save by administering student loans in house.
So while the government claims to be saving big money on student loans, but your interest rates are going up.
Here is that story.
And it's from the Daily Caller.
The subsidized interest rate on Stafford student loans doubled today, following top Senate Democrats' rejection of a bipartisan compromise supported by the president.
As the Senate debated comprehensive immigration reform for days last week, the student loan clock was quietly counting down.
And now, with legislators on vacation for the Independence Day break this week, the interest rate for undergraduate student borrowers has automatically gone up.
It's doubled.
3.4% to 6.8%.
Students may never have to pay the higher rate, however.
Iowa Democrat Senator Tom Harkin, who chairs the Senate Education Committee, wants Congress to change the interest rate retroactively once the legislative session resumes.
His fix would set interest rates at 3.4% for the next two years, which is something favored by Dingy Harry.
Now, I I'm having trouble remembering the precise details of how this thing all came down.
I remember that the Democrats were blaming the Republicans for student loan interest rates doubling sometime within the past year.
And which necessitated me coming once again to defend against a bogus charge, because it all centered around the fact that the Democrats wanted to cut student loans, and there wasn't going to be any cut in student loans.
If anything, the interest rate was going to remain the same.
Well, as it turns out, Congress ended up not doing anything about it.
And so the automatic increase that's in prior legislation has occurred as of today.
And as of today, Stafford student loans, undergraduate interest rates have skyrocketed.
They have doubled from 3.4% to 6.8%.
And I think the politics is now that the Democrats let this happen so that they can be the ones to magically write in on their lower cost white horse and claim they are going to cut the interest rates that the Republicans didn't care about.
When one thing I do remember about this, the legislation that automatically raised the student loan interest rate 6.8% today is Democrat legislation.
The Democrats wrote the bill.
And it was one of those things, probably that the well, this will never happen.
We'll fix it as we get down the pike, but they had to do this.
They had to write an increase in the student loan interest rate in order to come up with uh revenue to pay for something else that the CBO was scoring.
So it was all bogus.
And they all knew they were going to fix it, but time has come and gone, they didn't fix it.
And now the story is out that while Harkin may want to do something about it.
The bottom line is that the regime wants the extra money in order to fund Obamacare.
And we're talking about nearly $9 billion here.
The regime needs the extra money to fund Obamacare, so students are going to be taxed.
And we'll keep a sharp eye just to see what kind of action is taken on reducing this auto increase in the student loan rate.
And I look, the truth is the truth, and facts are facts.
And you students need to understand that it's the Democrat Party doing this.
This is a Democrat Party idea.
It's a Democrat administration which is eagerly embracing the increase in the loan rates and get more money to fund Obamacare.
It's the Democrats who wrote the legislation that has the schedule doubling of the interest rate in it in the first place.
But all the while during this, what you heard in the media was that the Republicans wanted to double your student loan interest rate, Republicans don't like you, Republicans don't want you going to college, Republicans don't want you uh having a cheap student loan arrangement, Republicans they don't want anything.
That's what people heard all during to the extent that anything was heard about it.
The National Football League.
What do you mean they heard about the money?
Oh, I know that's why the students heard about it.
That's exactly why I'm leading off with this.
This is a the this is this is the young demographic that thinks Obama's all in for them.
This is the young demographic thinks the Democrat Party's their future.
This is the Democrat Party which is making it more expensive to go.
It's the Democrat Party that is who runs the student loan program now?
Obama.
The government went in and took it over, most of it from the private sector.
Student loan program is run to the government now.
You know, all of these little things, they they they add up.
Uh there's a there's a there's a popular way of thinking.
This is change is good.
And part and parcel of that is that people who object to the change are close-minded and uh old-fashioned and uh old foes and this kind of thing.
And the people who advocate for change advocate in many cases for radical change, and those who oppose it say, well, you know, if you do that, then Katie Bartador, look at all the rest could possibly happen.
Then the change advocates say, you know, you always got you guys always do that.
Give me this straw man.
You always say any change is gonna lead to disaster.
Well, what change leads, this kind of change that we're talking about, that people need to be paying more attention to, results in just a little loss of freedom here, and a little loss of freedom over there, and a little loss of freedom over there.
So now we've got the student loan industry taken over by the government, ostensibly to make it fairer, ostensibly to make it more financially, we'd get the greedy big banks out of it.
But now you're at the total whim of the federal government.
Whether you get a loan, what the interest rate's gonna be, and the sad reality is that college graduates are coming out with lifetime debt before they've even earned a dollar.
Lifetime debt.
By that I mean debt that's gonna take a lifetime to pay off before they've earned a dollar.
Now there's another example of this kind of change.
The uh the the look at the pressure on the Washington Redskins, to talk about the NFL, the pressure on the Washington Redskins to change the name from redskins to something else.
And of course, the the the the modernists among us, oh, you can't continue to call it redskins.
I mean, you wouldn't run around in real life call, hey, look at it.
You're a red skin.
You wouldn't say that to somebody's face.
Sure, the team shouldn't be named that.
And then the people who oppose it might posit and argue, well, you know, if you do that, where are you going to stop?
Are you going to start saying you can't name teams after animals next?
Where's it going to stop?
And then the change advocates say, see, see, you just construct this straw man where you you manufacture disaster as a result of change.
That's not the point.
In the case of the Redskins name, who is everybody advocating change, looking to make it happen.
The federal government, and this is the problem.
The problem, look at change is unavoidable.
Change is constant.
And it does need to be embraced.
But I'll tell you, folks, that all of the change being advocated now, the the at least the change advocates, the people who think they're hip and modern, all they're actually doing is advocating that the government take more control over things.
Okay, so the Redskins may not be a popular name of some people.
Let the NFL figure this.
Why does the government have to get involved?
Why does Obama or any Congress or any of them need to be get involved?
We don't need McCain and the boys involved in this.
Why should they be?
But the advocates, those people who are now just fit to be tied over the name Redskins.
What they really want is to empower the federal government some more.
They're willing to turn over all kinds of power to the federal government in order to bring about what they want.
So these change advocates are nothing but a bunch of liberals who are in truth seeking to empower the federal government with more power over everybody.
It's incremental, and sometimes it's tiny, and sometimes it's considered insignificant.
Come on, Rush.
What harm could there be getting rid of the name Redskins?
It offends some people and it fine.
But why do you want the iron fist of the federal government involved in this?
It's an NFL thing, let them deal with it.
The NFL and the owners deal with the Redskins and the fans.
You know, if it were really that upsetting to the fans, nobody would go into FedEx Stadium.
But FedEx Stadium is sold out every week.
It obviously isn't upsetting too many people.
And yet you want the federal government to come in here with their jack booted thugs or iron fist people and do what?
The change advocates, if you pay attention, look, nobody, I I'm not one of these people that is routinely uniformly formulaically against change, because you can't, I mean, it's it's it's you can't stop it.
But the change advocates are a bunch of leftists who simply want to empower the federal government to impose what they believe under the name of change.
What they want you to believe is simply societal change.
In the case of the Redskins name, what they want you to believe is that our country and our society is maturing and is understanding that it's just reprehensible and unfair and mean to have a team named Redskins.
Well, the fact of the matter is our society is not that offended by it and doesn't think it's that big a deal as evidenced by Redskins sellouts and high TV ratings.
So the advocate, the people who don't like the Redskins name are just a bunch of PC jerks.
They're politically correct little liberals who want the federal government to come in.
We don't like redskins, and we don't want to understand it.
And there isn't a groundswell to change it.
So they want the federal government.
Well, it's the same thing here in the student alone program.
Or it's the same thing in so many other areas of life.
Change must have changed.
You want the federal government to do it.
You're not talking about change.
You're talking about imposition.
And you're talking about imposing things that liberals want, and you're also talking about the incremental loss of freedom, a little bit here, a little bit there, that adds up someday to be big.
15 months ago, Obama is in Iowa City, Iowa.
By the way, I went back to my website and I now am fully up to speed.
The Democrats wrote this student loan bill so that the rate would double in a campaign at election year.
Details come to it.
I want you to hear Obama, though.
April 25th, 2012, in Iowa City.
He is at the University of Iowa talking about student loan program.
Now is not the time to double the interest rates on our student loans.
Now's not the time to double interest rates.
Now's the time to double down on start investments that build a strong and secure middle class.
Now's the time to double down on building an America that's built to last.
Okay, so that's during last year's presidential campaign.
April 25th in Iowa City.
Now is not the time to double interest rates.
They were scheduled to double today.
And they were using this as a campaign issue.
Guess what?
Interest rates doubled.
Obama won re-election, so it doesn't matter.
They need the money for Obamacare.
Okay, just to close the loop on this, wrap it up, went back and looked at my own website archives, and here's what we found.
The Democrats, folks, intentionally wrote the law to make the student loan interest rate double in an election year.
What you need to know is this.
Back in 2007, the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress.
The Foley thing had happened in 2006, Mark Foley and the all this.
Supposed corruption had taken place, the Democrats exploited it, uh, Bush popularity falling, war in Iraq, death count, body count, all that.
The Democrats won the House back in the 2006 election.
In 2007, they control both houses of Congress, just won the election.
So Pelosi's running the House, Democrats are running the Senate.
So 2007, they passed legislation that would cut the student loan interest rate in half, and then reinstituted in July this year.
In 2007, they wrote legislation to cut the student loan interest rate in half for the 2008 presidential election year, so that they could claim they cut the student loan interest rate.
As part of that legislation, it was due to be reinstated on July 1st, which after the cut, the reinstatement would equal a doubling of the interest rate.
And they did this on purpose.
They wanted the college student loan interest rate to double in an election year in the summer right before the conventions.
They were rolling the dice on this.
This is from our website April 25th last year.
Democrats intentionally wrote law to make student loan interest rates double in an election year.
They could have put the increase off forever, but they wanted to increase it and be able to blame it on the Republicans.
The Republicans didn't control any House of Congress at the time and were powerless to do anything about it.
So here's the short version.
In 2007, the Democrats cut the student loan interest rate in half to 3.4%.
And they could have kept it there forever in their bill.
They had control of Congress.
But they put in the bill that it would go back to that same rate, July 1st of uh of uh 2012, just in time for the elections.
Last July, they punted it past the election to this year.
They delayed the doubling of the student loan interest rate scheduled to be last July 1st, 2012.
They moved that a year later to today in order to take it out of contention, an issue of contention during the 2012 presidential race.
But it was enough to give Obama Campaign issue.
They used the high student loan interest rate as a bludgeon.
The fact that it was going to come back as a bludgeon on the Republicans.
So here we are now, with the rate being reinstated anyway to 6.8%.
And the news today, as a sort of an adjunct, is that the Democrats are not unhappy with this, as it turns out, because there are no more elections that affect Obama.
They need the money for Obamacare.
So we have an ancillary story here that says that Tom Harkin's unhappy with it, and he's going to go to Dingy Harry to do something about it.
And that's what you'll hear.
That's be the last thing you're going to hear.
That the Democrats want to cut the student loan rate.
And then you, as a student, are going to say, boy, I love those Democrats.
They're always working for us.
Man, they really got our interests first.
When the truth is they authored all of this, and this doubling of the student loan rate or the reinstitution of it to what it was in 2007 is going to stay because Obama needs the money for Obamacare.
So the two things that you students need to know, the new rate, 6.8%, is going to stay there.
But don't be surprised if on the news, occasionally, you see a story, some Democrat wants it reduced.
And you're going to go, yeah, that's right.
The Democrats are looking out for me.
The Democrats love me.
The Republicans don't.
The Republicans are in line with the big bankers.
The Republicans are the one.
The Republicans have nothing to do with this.
This has got Democrat fingerprints from beginning to end.
What you students need to know is that the student loan interest rate today, in effect, doubles and becomes what it was in 2007.
And it's going to stay there.
Because Obama needs the money, your additional interest payments on your student loan to help fund Obamacare.
So if now you see Tom Harkin or anybody else on the Democrat side, Dingy Harry, in a news story, if you read it on the web or Twitter, wherever you get your news, if you see the Democrats want to lower the student loan interest rate, please do me a favor and understand it's nothing.
They're not going to touch it.
It's just a tug on the heartstrings of your emotions.
Try to make you think the Democrats are outraged by this and terrified by not want to do something about it to fix it.
It's Obama who's happy.
The regime happy that the student loan interest rate is now 6.8%.
National Football League says no to promoting Obamacare.
We had a story last week that the uh Health and Human Secur Services Secretary, Kathleen Sabilia is going to lean on the NFL to help them promote Obamacare.
Now the first question is what do they need to help promoting Obamacare for it's the law of the land.
Well, what that meant was they wanted the NFL to run TV ads and do whatever else to make you think that's wonderful because polling data on Obamacare is at an all-time low.
We're down to the 40s, maybe the mid-30s in some polls, in talking about the number of people who support it.
The opposition to Obamacare is at an all-time high.
But it is in the process of being implemented.
The regime wants to counter the polling data.
They want the NFL, the NBA, Major League Baseball, anybody they can find to devote time to run commercial broadcast ads on the wonders of Obamacare.
And how great it's going to be for you, and how to go to your exchange and how to sign up and how to start saving money and all that blah, blah, blah.
Because even though it's being implemented, people are right to be highly suspicious of it.
And the regime, hey, they have egos.
They want you to love what they're doing.
They're perfectly satisfied that you have to.
They're perfectly satisfied that you have been forced into this, but they want you to love It too.
And they want you to love Obama.
And they want you to believe things that aren't true in order that you will love them and it.
And so they went to the NFL at others asking for help.
On Friday, Republican leaders in the Senate issued a stern warning to sports organizations not to partner with the White House on an issue marked by such divisiveness and persistent unpopularity.
Now the long and short of this is the NFL finally said, We're not going to do this.
We never were going to do this.
We never were going to respond to Mr. Beauty's.
This is now that's as of today.
Anything can happen.
But as of today, the NFL is saying no moss.
Not going to be involved.
AP story.
The nation's librarians will be recruited to help people get signed up for insurance under Obamacare, up to 17,000 U.S. libraries.
I mean, libraries, for those of you in Rio Linda, will be part of the effort to get information and crucial computer time to the millions of uninsured Americans who need to get coverage under the law or pay a fine.
So what have we learned lately?
Well, we have learned that the exchanges, the Obamacare exchanges in the states, where everybody is going to have to go to get insurance if they don't get it at work, these exchanges are going to be run by Democrat operatives.
They have been converted into Democrat, get out the vote, and Democrat voter registration.
So, Drives, essentially.
That's what the exchanges, in addition to getting your health insurance there.
These places, these exchanges are going to be run by people from the NAA LCP, the Service Employees International Union, the AFL CIO, and now librarians, 17,000 libraries, are going to be part of the effort.
The undertaking, let's see, what's the date of this?
The undertake was announced yesterday.
Uh in Chicago, the annual conference of the American Library Association, according to federal officials who released the information early to the AP.
So in addition to the exchanges, the regime is using public libraries in order to propagandize people and sign them up at the exchanges.
Now I want to go to the audio sound bites, because this was fascinating on C SPAN today, the Washington Journal show.
And the guest is the NPR correspondent, Julie Rovner.
And they had the the viewer call-in segment.
And they had a caller named Don from Cambridge, Nebraska.
The caller knows more about how the regime is using the exchanges than anybody at C-SPAN or NPR.
We have two sound bites, and here's the first one.
This is the caller, Don from Cambridge, Nebraska.
I'm just kind of curious about this health care deal.
If it's such a good thing, why why are uh you guys trying to uh push it through my children's school to come home and tell me that it's such a such a good plan?
I don't believe in it.
Matter of fact, I just got a hold of my good buddy Rush Lindball the other day.
I got a bumper sticker coming that says abolish Obamacare.
You know, I'm gonna fight it tooth and nail.
Like I said, the thing that gets me is when you're pushing it on my children to come home and talk to me about it.
What a sad deal.
What a sad deal.
Now, what he's talking about is Cover California, which is another Democrat group.
It's like the SEIU, the AFL CIO, the NAA L CP, Covered California is another group which is using the schools to proselytize for Obamacare via the exchanges.
Exchange money is going to a group called Covered California in addition to the others.
They are working on students in schools.
And the caller is exactly right.
We mentioned this last week.
Students are being sold on Obamacare, propagandized, and they are to go home and tell their parents how wonderful it is.
So this guy is calling C-SPAN to tell them about it.
You just heard he's called.
Now here is the reaction.
We've got here after this guy called, one of the guest hosts is a guy named John McCartell.
C SPAN guestos.
He said to the caller, Don, Julie Rovener is a reporter, National Public Radio reports on these issues for NPR.
Julie, have you heard about an effort to push Obamacare through the schools?
I have not heard about an effort to push it through schools.
That was that's that's something new to me.
Uh Don, you say it's uh something the teachers are talking about to to your child.
What are they doing out in California?
What are they doing out in California?
They're uh spending all this money going into the kids of schools, tell them to go home, tell mommy and daddy.
Yeah.
It's not something you've heard about, though.
That's not something I've heard about.
That's the NPR reporter at Julie Robinerson and heard about it.
What it is is cover California.
And folks, it's another illustration, two things.
You listen here, you're on the cutting edge of societal evolution.
Number two, we do the job that the mainstream media used to do.
They have zip zero nada curiosity.
You know, I I I heard these sound bites today, and I think it's entirely likely that the drive by media, nobody in it yet understands how these exchanges have been corrupted.
They probably believe the exchange is set up as a website, maybe brook and uh uh brick and mortar store, where you go in and you buy your insurance policy if you don't have it at work.
And I'll bet they haven't the slightest idea that what these exchanges really are simply front groups for the Democrat Party.
And when they do find out they won't care, they'll think it's a brilliant move.
But as it is, the C SPAN caller knew more about a reporter on this.
Gotta take a break.
Sit tight, coming back with much more after this, folks.
Don't go away.
From our story last week, folks, covered California.
California's health insurance exchange.
That's what they're calling the exchange, covered California, announced grants of $37 million on May 14th to promote the nationally unpopular law.
The LA Unified Scrual District will get $990,000.
The district listed as a primary outcome for its project, teens trained to be messengers to family members.
That's what the caller was talking about.
That's what he had heard us discuss last week.
Teens trained to be messengers to family members.
In scrolls, they're going to be propagandized on Obamacare and to go home and tell their parents how great it is.
And the NPR babe had never heard of it.
The LA Unified Scroll District also will use taxpaid staff to promote Obamacare through phone calls to students' homes.
In-class presentations and meetings with employees eligible for Obamacare's taxpayer covered health care, says the grant award.
Now why?
It's the law of the land.
Why do they need to go out and propagandize it?
People have no choice.
What's the point?
Stop and think about that.
Let me grab a quick call.
Doug in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Hello, sir.
Great to have you here.
Hello, Rush.
Hey, uh Mega Carolina Panthers season ticket holder ditto from Section 229 of Bank of America Stadium.
Well how are you doing?
I'm I'm good.
I called and talked told Mr. Snerdley that when you were talking about college and um and these perhaps loan rates going up.
Um I don't think people in this country understand, um, not enough of them do, that it's because the federal government under um rights the cost of education that the costs never go down.
Um by the federal government ensuring that everybody who wants to go to college literally can.
There's um they're ensuring that the classrooms are filled up.
Thus there's no incentive for the city.
What they're doing, you're exactly right.
They are subsidizing their buddies who run the universities and teach at them.
Uh exactly.
They are insuring them against any negative economic realities Or news or uh what have you.
They're also urging everybody to go to college.
They're telling these kids if you don't, you don't have a prayer.
And they are in charge of the debt that everybody is incurring.
So, Doug, one thing.
I think more and more people are getting, are becoming.
I I think there's an effervescent outrage out there, folks, waiting and looking for an outlet.
I really do.
The Kenyan president told Obama to shut up about gay marriage.
He did.
And you can stuff it, Mr. President, talking about that here.
We've got our culture, and you're not gonna change it.
