Time Text
Welcome to today's edition of the Rush 247 podcast.
Okay, it's officially Indianapolis Colts parting ways with Peyton Manning.
It is happening right now on a press conference.
Jim Ursay just finished speaking.
Peyton Manning now into the microphones.
He said nobody will ever again wear the number 18 jersey in Indianapolis on the field.
In the office, maybe, but never on the field.
You know, Peyton Manning, Peyton may be the perfect Republican candidate, and he's used to being drafted.
And he's uh he's he's used to winning.
And we know he is used to carrying the team.
He's been officially released from his uh from his contract.
And now the race will be on.
The checkbooks will be opened from Seattle to Miami, perhaps Kansas City, Washington.
Who knows where Peyton Manning is going to end up?
What a run.
Folks, great to have you here.
Rush Limbaugh, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network and the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.
Also in less than an hour, Apple will start their next uh unveiling of super product, the iPad 3 or HD, whatever they're going to call it.
We were going to JIP it.
We're going to join the live blog in process, in progress.
But I decided, how do we do that?
I'm so eager to find out what it is.
Um, are going to announce it today, and it won't be available for a week, probably.
But it's going to have, folks, it's going to have a hectic screen.
You're going to be able to feel uh there will be feedback on the screen.
Like you can feel a keyboard keypad on a on a regular uh keyboard.
It's it's hard to describe, but it's apparently uh one of the big secrets.
Anyway, all that will take care of itself.
While I have your attention here, I want to ask if you will indulge me for just a brief few minutes for some inside baseball stuff before we move on to our review of the issues of the day, politics and so forth, the Super Tuesday, the results, and where we are.
And the reason for this is once again, so much misinformation about this program and advertisers is in the mainstream media.
People are reporting things that A are not true, and B, I don't even think the people reporting it have the slightest idea what they're talking about, nor do they have the ability to understand it.
But I know that many of you are spending a lot of time, God bless you, on the web, uh doing what you can to express your support for the program.
And I judging this from the reaction of my own brother, sends me a note last night.
You really lost 28 sponsors?
No, we have not lost 28 sponsors.
Well, how can they say it?
Because they lie.
And because they don't understand how it works, and that's why I want to try to explain.
Uh in fact, folks, we have three brand new sponsors that will be starting in the next two weeks.
Now, obviously, I'm not going to tell you who they are today, but we've got three brand new full-fledged sponsors starting in the next two weeks.
Two of the sponsors who have canceled have asked to return.
We are being very careful about that.
Not going to give you any names here.
One of them is practically begging to come back.
Everything is fine on the business side.
Everything's cool.
There is not a thing to worry about.
Whatever you're seeing on television about this program and sponsors and advertisers is just incorrect.
And let me try to explain how this uh how this works.
Let's take the um claim that we've lost 28 sponsors.
Sponsors on this program are both local and national.
We deal with the national sponsors on this program.
We have 600 plus stations.
They sell their own commercials.
We don't have anything to do with those sponsors.
We don't get paid by those sponsors.
We have no idea who those sponsors are.
Let's make up a company.
ABC widget company.
And let's say that ABC Widget Company says we are no longer going to appear in the Rush Limbaugh show.
Well, ABC Widget Company isn't in the Rush Limbaugh Show.
What happens is advertising agencies order advertising buys on a series of local stations from market to market to market.
A controversy like this erupts.
They put out a notice to the stations, by the way, for the time being, we don't want our commercials run when Limbaugh is on.
But they are not canceling their advertising on the station.
They're just saying they don't want it running in my program during the local affiliates commercial time, not ours.
So this 28 or 32, what that means is, and I don't even know if that number's accurate.
Numbers coming from Media Matters.
There's no way anybody could know this, but I'm going to put it in further perspective in a second.
What it means is there have been, let's use the number 28, 28 advertisers who none of us are aware are even advertising on our local stations, who have sent out orders that their commercials are not to run in my program.
But that is not revenue to us.
They are not our sponsors.
They are not even canceling their advertising on the local station.
They're just saying for the time being they don't want it run from noon to three.
And let me tell you, this happens every day.
It's been happening for 23 plus years.
And it's not just to me.
There are pro there are clients, advertisers that tell stations I don't want this to run in Beck's show.
I don't want it to run in Hannity's.
I don't want it to run in Howard Stern's.
It all it's it's part of the business.
But because there's a focal point on this and trying to dispirit you and trying to present a picture of this program that doesn't exist, and it's it's untrue, trying to make it sound like this is unprecedented, it's never happened before, it's at an all-time high.
And it simply isn't the case.
We have not lost 28 national sponsors.
There are not 28 advertisers who were paying us who aren't anymore.
They are local commercial buys.
Many of them may not even be running in my show to begin with.
The advertisers are just saying if they are, pull them.
We don't want them in there for now.
But they're staying on the local these advertisers are not abandoning EIB affiliates.
Nobody is losing money here, including us in all this.
And that is key for you to understand.
They are not canceling the business on our stations.
They're just saying they don't want their spots to appear in my show.
We don't get any revenue from them anyway.
It's to make you think the left is being successful in its campaign when it isn't.
In fact, the left is so fed up they can't see straight.
They thought they had me.
They thought I would be off the air by now.
They can't understand why I still am.
There is also another rumor going around that I am going to be suspended for a week.
It is utter BS.
I would have to suspend myself.
Now, let me put this in further perspective for you.
This number 28 or 32.
And then we're going to move on to other things.
Sponsors of our program are both nationwide companies like two is by T, my T company, and local companies like Mike's Auto Body Repair, or a local bank.
If we added up all of our affiliates, let's choose the number 600, and we assume that each of those affiliates had 30 such sponsors in the course of our three-hour program.
There might be all across this country as many as 18,000 different sponsors of this program.
Let me put it another way.
There might be 18,000 different people buying advertising within this program alone.
That is a conservative number.
600 stations.
18 commercial minutes an hour.
We take whatever we take to sell ourselves.
The local station keeps the rest.
They have local advertisers.
You add all those up over a course of 600 stations, over three hours a day, five days a week, we're talking 18,000 different sponsors, okay?
ABC News, who understands how this works, and are purposely misrepresenting it.
Out there ballyhooing that we have lost 28 sponsors.
Twenty-eight sponsors out of 18,000.
That's like losing a couple of French fries in the container when it's delivered to you at the drive-through.
You don't even notice it.
If we lose 28 of those sponsors, the majority of them being in one city or another out of 18, that's a sad occurrence.
But folks, I would venture to say that this happens every day anyway in the course of doing business.
Advertisers come and go.
New businesses start up, they start advertising.
Some businesses go under, they stop their advertising.
None of what's happening is out of the ordinary.
It's just part of an onslaught to try to convince you that this shows history.
And our days are numbered.
And I'm happy to tell you nothing could be further from the truth.
The point is we have tens of thousands of companies who advertise in this program.
We're appreciative of all of them.
The vast majority, we don't even know.
They are local sponsors.
As I say, we are going to be uh debuting three and maybe more new sponsors in the coming days and weeks.
And I'm I'm sure that our affiliate stations are going to be replacing advertisers with new ones.
It's the cycle.
Nothing stays the same.
It's all dynamic.
Nothing is static.
All you need to know is there are no losses.
There is only growth.
There are only gains.
We're moving forward.
There is good in everything that happens.
You look for it, you find it, you build on it, and you expand it.
They have not taken this program out.
They have not taken me out.
They're the ones who are frustrated.
They're the ones who are angry.
They're the ones who are going to be blowing gaskets in the next couple of weeks.
I hope I've made this clear.
I hope I've...
It's such inside baseball stuff.
But 28 sponsors, 32, whatever number they're using, that have been lost are not direct advertisers here.
And they may not even be advertising within my three hours on the stations they're running.
Impossible to know.
Now, you might, well, whatever these people are putting out states.
Yes, they are putting out statements because they're hoping to make political gains, just like, and it's going to backfire.
You can look at the stock price of some of these.
I'm not going to say anymore.
You, but it's it's it's going to backfire.
So you have uh a bank.
We are announcing today that none of our commercial will ever again run on the sponsor of ours, folks.
They may buy sponsorships, 10 or 15 of our affiliates around the country, but they're not sure that they're being inserted in my three hours.
I want to make sure they're not.
They'll run elsewhere on the station.
Brief timeout.
We'll come back.
We'll get started with the rest of the program with uh the primaries, Obama, press conference, gas prices, there's a whole lot of stuff out there.
And we'll get to it right after this.
By the way, uh, ladies and gentlemen, are you um?
If you're not aware, I want to make you aware.
ABC.
ABC television, Disney, premiered a new drama on Sunday night.
It is called GCB.
Do you know what it is?
Have you heard of this?
Don, have you heard of GCB?
Brian?
Ah, never mind.
Do you know what it stands for?
Now this is Disney.
This is ABC.
GCB stands for Good Christian Bitches.
It is a TV show based on a book by the name Good Christian Bitches.
Now, ABC didn't want to make the title show that, so they just abbreviated GCB.
There has not been a peep about this.
No outrage.
No concern.
And of course, you can imagine what it's it's it's about hypocritical Christian women.
They sing in the church choir and then do all this horrible rotten stuff outside of church.
No, certainly not just sexual stuff.
I mean, they undermine each other and uh it's this good Christian bitches.
Sunday nights, I think it's at 10 o'clock on ABC.
Folks, we we live in a world of intolerance masquerading as tolerance, and slime disguised as sophistication.
And that's what the left has given us.
Slime disguised as sophistication.
This is not Walt Disney's Disney anymore.
Walt Disney was a thinking his day, conservative right-wing guy.
He really was.
Moving on, Obama's press conference yesterday was uh amazing.
There were no questions about the economy.
There were very few questions about uh the budget, the debt, the lack of a budget, the debt.
One person did ask, Ed Henry of Fox asked about um gasoline prices.
And Obama said in answer, Ed, just from a political perspective, do you think the president of the United States going into re-election wants gas prices to go higher?
Is there anybody here who thinks that that makes a lot of sense?
Where was the follow-up?
Where was the follow-up to this?
Mr. President, in 2008, didn't you call for higher prices for gasoline and carbon-based energy?
With all due respect, gasoline is carbon-based, sir.
Didn't your energy secretary just say in testimony up on Capitol Hill that you're not interested in reducing the price of gas.
You want to get us off oil.
Where was the follow-up?
Here is a man who has stated numerous times he wants the price of energy higher.
And uh Ed, you uh really think President of the United States wants to rise against President of the Election.
I'm not sure what this guy.
Can I say something about this whole notion of of getting rid of oil?
I I another one of these things is stop and think about it logically for a second.
And replace it with what?
Now Obama's in North Carolina today.
He is at a at a Daimler truck factory.
Mercedes-Benz truck factory somewhere in North Carolina.
By the way, he's he's spending a lot of time in North Carolina because they're in trouble there.
The Democrats are in trouble in North Carolina.
They're not at all confident they're gonna win it.
And he's in this, he's at this truck factory to promote new green energy.
It's nothing but a slush fund.
There's no business there.
Every one of his solar industry things is a scam.
Wind energy, scam, and now he's green energy for this this truck plant.
The next time you're outside, the next time you have to be looking in the sky, and you happen to see an airplane, preferably a jet, an airliner, I want to ask yourself, okay, we take that out of the sky and we replace it with what?
What green energy is going to replace that jet airplane?
What's in that jet airplane?
People, cargo.
If you are going to be one of the first to try to get a new iPad, they're all being flown here from China.
Apple bought up every ounce of cargo space on DHL and some others.
Nobody else can get their stuff shipped in.
How would Apple get that stuff here without oil?
How would anybody get their stuff anywhere without oil?
It's not possible to get off of oil.
Seriously, it's just as fatuous, folks, to say that there is a war on women being waged by the Republican Party.
It's a patently absurd if you just stop for a brief moment and think about it.
Now, I know there are people who say it's not what you say.
It's how people hear you.
I know.
See, I live in Littoreville.
I am the mayor of Realville.
And while I understand deception, spin, perception, and all that, I prefer dead in the eye straight on.
Here is what I mean.
I don't like speaking in riddles, and I don't I don't like assuming that people know what's in my mind before I say something.
So when I hear that there is a war on women, I it is it's absurd.
It's fatuous.
The real hilarity is that there are armies of stupid, small-minded Democrat voters who actually will be made to believe this kind of thing because they're so bent on having an outlet for their hatred every day.
So it's the same thing with, well, really, we're not interested in lowering the gasoline price.
want to get the nation off of oil.
The oil is the fuel of the engine of freedom.
And that's dead on accurate right between your eyes.
That's not spin.
That's not deception.
That's not in any way painting pictures.
Oil is the fuel of the engine of freedom, and there is no replacement for it.
There is no substitute for it.
Okay, so what is the purpose then of all of this green energy stuff?
The purpose is an expanding government with people like Barack Obama in command and control of as much of the daily workings of this country as they can be, all the way down to what doctor you see and whether or not you're going to be treated for an illness that you have.
And perhaps even more control.
What you eat.
We just had the story yesterday of food injustice.
Jesus.
It's coming.
Every one of Obama's crony capitalist deals with uh solar energy has gone belly up.
And every one of them has involved a slush fund that ends up coming back to Obama in the form of campaign contributions, just like the Democrat Party's relationship with unions is basically a money laundering operation.
I know that there are some of you here today who have not listened to this program before.
You're curious what's going on.
So those of you who are regular, indulge me.
I'm gonna go back, say some things for our newer rivals, and try to help them understand.
Now I know it sounds really bad to say that the Democrats in the unions is a money laundering operator, because money laundering when you associate that with drug cartels and stuff.
Well, this Limbaugh guy, I can't believe over the top is the president is a money launderer.
Well, yeah, let me explain it.
Organized labor, 90% or more of all campaign donations go to Democrats.
That money comes from dues that are forcibly taken from union workers who have no say in how their union dues are spent.
Many of these unions are made up of people who work for governments, federal, state, and local.
They are paid by taxpayers.
The taxpayers, via their taxes, pay these people.
And on average, union state government, federal government, union employees earn twice as much as non-union American citizens who are paying their salaries.
Well, where does the money, all this millions and millions of dollars that gets donated to the Democrats come from?
It comes from union dues.
So the operation is very simple.
Taxpayers pay for the salaries of union workers in government, anyway.
Those union members pay dues.
The dues are collected, and the money goes to the Democrat Party.
Taxpayers are basically contributing to Barack Obama when they have no intention of it.
It's a money laundering operation.
It is a circuitous way.
When Obama comes up with favorable policies, the Democrats' favorable policies for union employees.
It's because the benefit beneficiaries of this new financial policy are going to see jobs maintained, for example, during the stimulus bill.
So-called shovel-ready jobs.
All that was was money to keep union workers employed in the states and at various bureaucracies of the federal government.
Because those people pay dues.
Those people contribute to the Democrat Party's reelection efforts.
The stimulus bill was to keep those people employed.
It wasn't to create new roads and bridges.
Didn't happen, did it?
It wasn't to create shovel-ready jobs or to fill them.
There weren't any, right?
It's two years since the stimulus, and the Democrats are complaining the same stuff needs to be done, but we spent a trillion dollars.
Where is the results?
What's to show for it?
The money didn't go to jobs to you.
It went to unionized people for the most part.
Teachers, mostly Wisconsin, got 16% of it.
So same thing with all this solar energy stuff or wind energy.
Totally underwritten by grants and loans that were forgiven by the federal government.
The companies go bust because they can't compete because there's no business.
There is no solar energy business yet.
They're trying to force a business down everybody's throat that doesn't exist.
Businesses evolve out of need and creativity and invention in the private sector.
Government doesn't start anything.
All it does basically is take from.
But these dollars that Obama spent on Cylindra and other such organizations that failed also went to salaries for the people who ran the companies.
And they have been found to be on record as donating to Obama.
Another slush fund, another money laundering operation.
And it is now with all of this green energy stuff.
It's simply a circuitous way for Obama to get his hand on taxpayer dollars.
Folks, there's no substitute for oil.
There's no replacement for it.
We are not going to get off of oil.
We are not going to have automobiles, airplanes, and That move without oil.
It isn't going to happen.
Because there is no alternative.
Have you ever stopped to think why we use oil and its derivatives, such as gasoline, kerosene, jet fuel.
Have you ever wondered why?
Do you think it's a conspiracy?
Big oil's gotten together to conspire with others to make sure that only their product is used to power airplanes and cars.
It's not how it happens.
It happens in the free market because it's what works.
It's what powers the internal combustion engine.
It's not a conspiracy.
It's not big business getting together to monopolize and control and deny you freedom of choice of fuels.
It's because it works.
It's found to be the cheapest and most economic and the most efficient way to move people and goods and services around.
It works.
That's why.
There's nothing better than oil.
There's nothing even close to it.
We are blessed to have it.
We're blessed to have the technology to know how to refine it and make additional products from it.
Which you find in your everyday life, it is not evil.
And the people who work in that business are not evil.
They contribute to greatness and the possibility of greatness.
They contribute to people's dreams coming true.
They make it possible for us to feed ourselves cheaply without having to kill each other to get something to eat.
Oil is something for which everybody should be thankful.
Now Barack Obama himself yesterday's press conference said, well, one of the reasons for high gasoline prices is the instability in the Middle East.
Really?
When is there not instability in the Middle East?
There has always been instability in the Middle East ever since Adam and Eve blew it.
And there will always be instability in the Middle East.
It's nothing new.
In fact, doesn't that instability in the Middle East argue even more for coming up with sources of oil that are not in the Middle East?
If that's an unstable region, if it's dangerous, if that supply could be negatively impacted simply by the Iranians blocking the Strait of Hormouths, why do we want to continue to make ourselves vulnerable to that when we have our own oil?
We've got it in shale in the Dakotas.
We've got it in Alaska.
We've got it in the Gulf of Mexico.
There's one guy in his political party making sure that we can't get it.
Barack Hussein Obama does not want this nation to be independent of Middle Eastern oil.
Nobody can convince me he does.
He opposed the building of the Keystone pipeline to get oil from Canada.
That would create eventually tens of thousands of jobs, by the way.
But he couldn't have that because his left-wing fringe kook base would be really mad at him because they hate oil.
They hate progress.
They hate technological advancement.
They had their way.
We would all be living like they do in the hills of Afghanistan.
Instability in the Middle East.
That's one of the reasons for high gas prices.
Well, wait, we have a solution.
We got our own oil.
It's too dirty, too risky.
Kills wildlife, kills kills plants, kills grass, kills frogs, can't it's too risky.
Too expensive, pollutes, global warming, destroys the planet.
Well, then why are we using it at all?
Why don't we ban it?
What's that bad?
Can't ban it because we can't get along without it.
For 30 years, Democrats have been saying you can't say that the answer is drilling for oil, because it's going to take four or five years.
Well, four or five years was now in 1970.
In 2000, they said, oh, you can't drill.
It's going to take three to four years, maybe five years for it.
Well, now is five years after 2000.
If we'd have been drilling at any point, if we would have increased drilling at any point in the last 30 years when the Democrat Party object, we would have independence.
When it comes to foreign oil.
The Democrat Party's not interested in that.
In fact, your best bet is to believe the opposite of what they say on most everything.
Got to take a break.
Sit tight, we'll be back in just a second.
Don't go away.
On the cutting edge of societal evolution.
Rush Limbaugh serving humanity simply by being here.
Mitt Romney was the uh winner last night in the Republican primaries, but but nobody seems happy about it.
I've got a bunch of audio sound bites here, but uh people comment.
Yeah, he's winning it, but it doesn't seem like they're really big whizzes.
He's eking this out.
Not a whole lot of excitement to it.
Uh ought to be winning these things much easier.
Virginia, people are citing Virginia.
Should have been a slam dunk.
He was he was only up against Ron Paul.
The other two guys weren't on the ballot in many of the counties Virginia because of uh election rules there.
You know Obama only won 57% of the vote in Oklahoma, and he was he's unopposed.
There's a Democrat primary going on, too.
Obama won 57% of the vote in the Democrat primary in Oklahoma.
He won the state, yeah, but he should have cleaned up, should have got 100% of the vote.
He didn't.
Romney scores big win.
Press fails to notice is a report from White House Dossier.com.
Keith Koffler.
Mitt Romney won a crushing victory on Tuesday, winning twice as many states as Rick Santorum and more than two and a half times as many delegates.
But his triumph is being portrayed in headlines across the nation as a sign of weakness and failure, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Romney picked up 211 delegates, taking six states, brings his total delegate count to 415.
Santorum won in three states, added only 84 delegates, his total now 176.
Again, two uh Romney's 415.
Romney scored a huge upset in Ohio, coming from way back to take a politically diverse state that is representative of the type of place he'll need to win to beat Obama.
Now that's Koffler's take.
Other people look at Ohio as the fact that he had to fight big there, he had a six to one spending advantage, and it took him until midnight to win the state.
No matter where you look, I get their two takes on this.
Coffler's take it, man, Romney is just scorching the earth, and nobody's reporting it.
And the other side is he's winning with the money advantage that he's got.
Oh, gee, I mean, it's gotta be clean people's clocks.
I got last night, by the way, I checked my email, and people upset that Gingrich acceptance speech went on so long.
His victory speech in Georgia, and then Santorum went on and on and on.
And people were sending me notes.
Say, Rush, don't you understand?
These guys are hurting themselves.
It's rambling on.
I said, You ought to understand something.
They don't have any money.
This is the only free media they get.
They know the networks are covering this, so they're gonna milk it.
They're gonna go as long as they can, being as reasonable as they can, because when it's over, they don't have any money to go out and buy time.
At least not nearly as much as Romney does.
So there are many factors.
Gingrich and Santorum need free media.
They just don't have the money.
Well, shouldn't I tell you something Russia?
People aren't donating to them.
Maybe they still say they're gonna hang in there.
Point is that Romney does have much more than they do.
Anyway, the audio sound bites in this are fascinating from both sides, and we'll get to that as the program unfolds before your very eyes and ears.
Dennis Kucinich lost in the primary in Ohio.
Hardcore liberalism crushed in Ohio.
Have you noticed when Olympia Snow leaves?
Oh no!
Such a sad thing!
Another brilliant moderate leaving the desertly conservatives are taking over the Senate.
When a hardcore liberal gets voted out of the House, oh gosh, we need these characters.
We we need these funny guys so far.
Export Selection
