Time Text
Yeah, let me move forward here for a second here.
All right.
Have 14, 15, and 16 standing by.
Where am I going?
Yeah, 141516 and 22.
Greetings, folks, and welcome back, Rush Limbaugh, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network, the Limbaugh Institute.
It's great to have you here.
The telephone number is 800-282-2882.
The email address, LRushbaugh at EIBNet.com.
I'm a little suspicious here, folks.
I keep seeing more and more of these stories.
I really don't know what to make of them.
For example, from the Politico Teachers' Unions Uneasy with Obama.
A skirmish between powerful teachers' unions and President Obama over nearly $5 billion in education spending is shaping up as a preview of the battle to come over No Child Left Behind in Congress early next year.
But the tables are turned.
Now the unions are worried that Obama is going to be just as tough on them as President Bush.
Believe it?
It's who Arnie Duncan's behind this?
All right.
Well, the dispute adds teachers' unions to a growing list of key Democrat constituencies that have been frustrated by Obama's lunges toward the political middle.
This just goes to sh.
How can anybody write that he's plunging in any direction toward the middle?
My God, folks, it's there is not a word to describe what has happened to the media and the way they see things.
Orwellian doesn't even get close to it.
Machiavellian doesn't get close to it.
The other groups that are angered at Obama, gay rights activists upset he won't lift the ban on gays in the military.
That's because there won't be a military.
You people need to understand what's happening here.
And Latino officials who say Obama's slow-walking immigration reform.
The story here is that they're all upset that Obama seems to have shelved everything for health care.
Now, I want to tell you how stupid these liberal constituency groups are, from the unions to the teachers to the gay rights activists and whatever.
The thing they don't understand, politically and realistically, first, politically, he's got to get health care.
He's got to get something or he's a bust.
The second thing, realistically, if he gets health care, that's how he's going to do everything else that you want, because it is healthcare that's going to allow him to regulate our lives without any additional legislation.
Don't ask, don't tell, they'll find a way to say it will help the health care costs if we eliminate don't ask, don't tell in the military, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Immigration reform?
That's just a matter of time.
It's slam dunk.
Look, immigration, that means we've got Latino officials who want amnesty and they want it now.
So they're pushing for.
What do you think health care is all about?
Healthcare is all about giving access to the federal treasury under the guise of health care benefits to illegal aliens.
Obama's going to legalize, he's going to just by fiat make illegal marijuana use legal by legalizing.
It's the same thing with immigration.
These people are just impatient.
See, we think in nine months, he's taken giant steps toward destroying this country and his radical support groups think he's taking tiptoe steps.
So I keep seeing these stories, how upset these people are.
Now, Arne Duncan, the education secretary, is, when you say that he's doing it not Obama, come on now.
These guys are not independent contractors out there.
They're not working without the imprimatur of Obama.
But I say, teachers' unions?
The teachers' union is mad?
Right.
As though they're so mad they're going to drop their support of Obama.
It ain't going to happen.
Can I be honest with you, ladies and gentlemen?
You know I always am.
Until we get rid of the unions, we're not going to have any change in the public schools.
I don't care the don't ask, don't tell in the military.
I don't care if they're no child left behind.
I don't care what they do.
Just ask the kids in Washington.
Just ask the kids in Washington who are kicked out of Sidwell Friends when their vouchers were taken away what a friend of quality education Obama is.
It was Obama and Michelle Maybell who kicked the kids out, ended the voucher program.
Those were minority kids getting a quality education for once.
Why'd they do it?
Well, they have two sets of rules.
Their kids get to go to the elite schools, but yours don't.
And besides that, we've got to make sure the teachers' union stays in order.
Why do you want to ask Bill Ayers what he thinks about education in America?
And then they go on to say what a giant Ted Kennedy was, how bad no child left behind is.
Totally forgetting that the swimmer wrote it.
This story in Politico rips No Child Left Behind.
At the same time, they praise Ted Kennedy for being a great education visionary.
He wrote it.
How stupid do they think we are?
Despite all the efforts of the NEA, some of us still have brains, miraculously.
But if you want to clean up the schools, get rid of the unions.
In fact, here I go.
You know, I can say this as a union member.
I'm a forced member of a union.
What's the union?
Oh, yeah, AFRA.
Think question here for you.
Ladies and gentlemen, is there any industry you can think of where a union shop produces the same product cheaper and better than a non-union shop?
I'd even settle for an example of the product that was more expensive but better.
I'm just not sure.
What do you mean it's not fair?
What's not?
Yes, I am looking at results.
Oh, you think I should be looking at good intentions?
No, I find it dandy.
Well, I don't.
We've looked at good intentions.
I don't fall for that game.
I'm just not sure what the value-added benefit to the consumer is when purchasing a union product.
Now, especially at education, union product.
Now, I realize that I'm on the edge of it here because there are a lot of union people in this audience and so forth.
And I want you rank and filers to understand that I don't think you're the problem.
I think what's done with your dues is the problem.
And I think your leadership is, we've been through all this before.
I'm sure we got many, many conservative Republican union members.
I just, I mean, I have to ask the honest question.
Some of them, I don't really have the answers.
This one popped into my head.
So I'll ask it again.
Is there any industry you can think of where a union shop produces the same product cheaper or better than a non-union shop?
I don't know.
It seems like wherever you go in our economy today and you find economic problems, you find a union somewhere in the mix.
Union leadership.
So just a question throw.
Then there's another companion story with this that raises the same question.
Let me see, where is it?
Yes.
This is from the New York Daily News.
Liberals frustrated with Obama.
Angry their issues took back seat to health care reform.
This is by David Saltenstall, the senior political correspondent.
To the Maddas-Hell Conservatives on the right, now add a new and increasingly vocal group of critics attacking Obama impatient Democrats and the left.
And then, see, here, they put the knife in their own story with the next sentence.
To be sure, Obama's favorable rating among Democrats in general remains a stratospheric 89%, according to Gallup.
But there is no but.
All this is BS.
But increasingly noisy factions on the party's most liberal flank, among them gay rights proponents, pro-choice activists, and immigration reformers who Obama courted last year, are incensed.
Incensed that their causes have taken a backseat to the White House's all-out push on healthcare reform.
Case in point, the Feminazis.
That word doesn't appear in the story.
I throw it in there.
They write pro-choice activists, but I have efeminazis in there to make it require less of my time to read this.
Efeminazis, who right now are livid that the leading healthcare bills winding through Congress don't include federal funding for poor women to get aborted, but they do.
This is the even these guys believe the BS that comes out of the Obama propaganda machine there at the White House.
So anyway, these stories are all over the place, and I don't know what to make of them.
Because I know that at the end of the day, none of these people are going to abandon Obama because they hate us more than they can ever be mad at him.
Now, this is an interesting story from Bloomberg News, ladies and gentlemen, and it's a snapshot of our economy.
I kind of love the story for its teachable moment.
Harvard's bet on interest rate rise cost $500 million to exit.
Now, this is a headline: this teachable moment about capitalism versus liberal capitalism.
Harvard University.
Now, what is Harvard?
It's our citadel.
Best of the brightest, the smartest, the brainiest, our best.
The people who know more than the whole world combined are at Harvard.
It's America.
Harvard University's failed bet that interest rates would rise cost Harvard at least $500 million in payments to escape derivatives that backfired.
Harvard paid $497.6 million to investment banks during the fiscal year ended June 30th to get out of $1.1 billion of interest rate swaps intended to hedge variable rate debt for capital projects.
The university said that it also agreed to pay $425 million over 30 to 40 years to offset an additional $764 million in swaps.
When we went into the fall, we had some serious liquidity management issues that we were dealing with here, and the collateral postings of the swaps is one of those, said Daniel Shore, Harvard's chief financial officer.
In evaluating our liquidity position, we wanted to get some stability and some safety.
This is the Harvard Endowment.
They have their own economic meltdown caused by risky derivatives.
Perfect.
I mean, and this is just what those Harvard grads like Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorellic and Larry Summers and Obama did to our economy.
So Harvard is producing the same stupidity.
Harvard is producing the same.
We hear about all these horrible, irresponsible risks taken by these mean Wall Street.
Where the hell were they educated?
I don't think Gartner Geithner is Yale, I believe.
Six of one half dozen of the other.
But this explains the entire economic meltdown caused by a bunch of Harvard grads, just like the people at the university at present, who were betting on interest rates to go up.
And they bombed big time on the derivative side of it.
It's just amazing.
It's been a while since I took a phone call here on the EIB network in El Rushbox.
So let's take a phone call from Lorain, Ohio.
It's Brian.
I'm glad you called, sir.
You're up next.
Good afternoon, Marshall.
Nice to talk to you.
Yeah, I'm just waiting for the music to end so I can hear you.
I'm sorry.
Okay, I can hear you now, yeah.
Got a quick question for you regarding the situation with the hospitals in Florida.
Yeah.
If they are indeed overwhelmed by patients with the flu, blind flu or Asian flu or Hong Kong flu or whatever, and you have a seven-year-old child sitting there and a person that's dying that's terminally ill with cancer, okay, which one would you like treated?
There's only one bed left in the hospital.
You've got a seven-year-old sitting there with the flu that needs treated, and you've got a person that's terminally ill with cancer, and they're there for whatever reason.
Well, first place, I don't accept the premise of your question because you may not have understood my point.
My point is that the Obama people and the Democrats are telling us there aren't any death panels in our health care.
We're not going to be rationing hell.
This is all scare tactics on the right.
Here's a story from South Florida, Fort Lauderdale.
Oh, yeah, there certainly is a death panel.
In this case, it's Florida health agencies, and they're going to decide.
Well, they're going to tell the hospitals to decide who gets kicked out and who gets admitted.
The whole thing right now is just a supposition.
This is being designed to frighten people and scare people, which is an operational tactic of people on the left, keep people on edge and worried.
We're going to die.
Somebody's not going to be our responsibility.
We're just going to have some faceless agency is going to tell the hospital to choose which patient goes and which one doesn't.
And, you know, this, it's never happened in America as far as I know.
I've never seen stories like that.
We've had flu epidemics every year.
I've never yet seen a story where a hospital agency in the state is telling hospitals, you better choose on a panic that has not yet really developed.
So I've never seen this before.
I think it's all part of a scare tactic that whether these people are in on it or not, they've fallen for it at least.
And it just, it disturbs me because I don't know that this is ever going to be a reality.
Not with a swine plug.
So what you're saying is their preparedness is a farce.
Them preparing for this possible eventuality.
No, I'm saying they're announcing it and making a big news story out of it is part of an overall campaign to keep people on edge and full of angst over this.
Okay, who's making it a news story, though?
The television, radio, you know, the talk show hosts?
No, help me.
That was it.
The apparatus that you're part of is making it the story.
No, no.
They're passing papers between themselves saying you need to be prepared for this event.
No, no, no.
No, no, no, no.
And you're blessed.
You're blowing it up.
No, wait a minute now.
No, if the this is how this I'm to blame.
I'm to blame for spreading the false quotes about me.
I'm to blame for spreading this news.
Okay, sir, I get it.
I'll agree with you.
I'll agree.
This is Brian in Lorraine, Ohio, and I'll agree with you.
Old people, I'm just, Robert B. Rice said it.
We're just going to let the old people die.
I'll agree with you.
That's what we're going to do.
Seven-year-old versus a 75-year-old?
No comment, no question about it.
75-year-old dies.
There, problem solved.
Thank you, President Obama.
Paula in Salem, Missouri.
Welcome to the EIB Network.
Hello.
Hi.
Thanks for taking my call.
Just met him.
Last night, my husband and I were watching Breitbart's Big Hollywood.
They were streaming live the documentary about climate change, Not Evil, Just Wrong, I believe was the title of it.
And afterwards, they had a panel.
John Fund was one of the panel members for questions from the audience.
They had a live audience there.
And at one point, he, and I don't want to misquote him, and I don't have anything written down, but this was my intention.
It doesn't matter.
You're going to do a far better job than the media who were there reporting it.
Well, yeah, I am trying to be honest.
I am.
You're right.
Anyways, I understood what Mr. Fund said.
He said that basically we don't have to be concerned about climate change legislation passing this year.
It's not going to happen.
It's dead.
People were responding by getting kind of excited, you could tell.
And he said, however, he said, the problem is, is that the Supreme Court has handed the Obama administration what they need.
And again, I'm not quoting him exactly.
Well, I can tell you exactly what he told you.
I didn't see it, but the Supreme Court has given the Environmental Protection Agency the total right to regulate carbon emissions without legislation.
Correct.
So cap and trade can happen anyway without the legislation.
That's what Fund meant.
Exactly.
Okay, thank you.
That is what I understood, what you just said.
And you are two years ahead of the game of the average mainstream media person.
Oh, good for me.
Yes.
But even that, there's another element.
What do we do?
There's another element to this, though.
Okay.
Another element is we've got cap and trade, screw that.
The EPA, we've got a global climate treaty coming up in Copenhagen, which will put everything we do, if this thing ever gets ratified.
Remember this, it's treaty.
The Senate has to ratify it.
Obama has to present it.
If the Senate ratifies it, then we are now, whenever that happens, at that point, we would be under the auspices of a United Nations agency on emissions, carbon, whatever.
I mean, they're coming at us two ways on this.
Three, legislation, EPA by Fiat and the UN climate change, blah, blah, whatever, the International Panel of Climate Change, the Screw the World panel.
And, you know, your question, what can we do?
Yes, sir.
That's my question.
It's more town halls.
It's more tea parties.
It's more letting everybody in the world know that this is going to happen because the more those things do happen, the more people on the fence in the country understand.
Really get interested and find out about it themselves.
Right now, public opinion, until next November's elections, public opinion is about and moving it is the best thing that we can do.
And that will lead to hopefully a good outcome in the elections in 2010.
All of this is why Obama is hustling to get all of this done before then.
It's very, you know, I keep saying it's very, very dark days.
But you're doing more than you think you're doing by staying informed, spreading the word on this, staying involved.
I would urge more of that.
Grab Ed Grab Audio Subway Number 22.
Let's just jump ahead of that.
Folks, you probably didn't hear this because it's on CNN.
It's hilarious now.
They've got a reporter who stalks me.
Carol Costello.
She's actually the beat reporter assigned to me.
As I call her, a stalker.
She did today, started a series of reports today, anger on the air.
Talk radio made our country viciously partisan.
So they went out and they found a psychiatrist to analyze the situation.
And the answer is that I bully you.
Talk radio, especially conservative talk, is so powerful.
Some say it's made our country viciously partisan.
10 of the top 11 radio talk shows are conservative.
The king?
Rush Limbaugh with 15 million listeners.
Psychiatrist Gail Salt says Limbaugh's style appeals to those who feel they have no voice.
He's essentially kind of operating like the bully.
And if you're on the playground, do you want to be the bully's, you know, under the bully's wing and go along with him and get, therefore, some power by proxy too?
Or do you want to be like left out alone on the playground where, you know, who knows who's going to take you out?
Salt says conservative talkers are more popular than liberal talkers because they attract the kind of person who likes strong, aggressive messages.
It's just hilarious.
You know, it's 20 million, Carol.
You know what?
Carol, you need to go sit on a fire hydrant and improve your day.
This is just...
To show you, to show you...
That's the media tweak of the day.
He's so vicious.
He's such a bully.
He's even bullying our CNN stalker reporter.
Get this.
Now, this is from Politics Daily.
It's a website.
Walter Shapiro Collins used to write for USA Today.
In New Jersey, it was Christie's race to lose, and he may have lost it.
They talk about the gubernatorial race there.
And then you get to halfway down, you get to this paragraph with billboards and posters featuring the president and the slogan, keep it going.
Corzine, the governor, has been unabashed about trumpeting the Obama connection in a state which the Democrats carried by 600,000 votes last year.
Corzine warned on Sunday morning that the Rush Limbaughs would exploit his defeat as a platform to tear down the president.
The message for Latinos here in the Democrat stronghold of Hudson County, our president needs our help.
So Corzine is using fear of me to motivate voters in New Jersey.
Yet David Brooks thinks I'm irrelevant and some of these other guys.
I mean, this is hilarious.
Fear of me, the Rush Limbaughs of the world.
And by the way, Governor Corzine, there's only one.
Rush Limbaugh.
Dwight in Indianapolis.
Indianapolis is the, by the way, the home of the owner of the Indianapolis Coltson man by the name of Jim Hearsay.
Dwight, welcome to the program.
Great to have you here.
I appreciate it.
I was just calling in because earlier you had mentioned or asked about liberals who might be upset at Obama, and I'm actually one of those liberals.
And the question of whether one would abandon him, I'm not sure, but I did vote for Nader in 2000.
So I have certainly voted third party in the past when I think the Democrats have strayed too far.
And I'm certainly of that opinion in terms of this administration, too.
So you Can I ask you a personal question first?
This always fascinates me because I've heard that liberals are afraid to call here because they think they're just going to get hung up on or insulted or whatever.
And yet you called.
I'm curious.
You obviously didn't think you would be mistreated when you called.
No, that has happened, but I've never heard anybody being mistreated on your show.
I will say that that has happened on more local conservative talk radio conversations that I've listened to, but not your show.
Well, yeah, I don't know.
I guess it could be if you say it.
But you voted for Obama, but why are you dissatisfied?
Well, I'm dissatisfied in a number of respects.
I suppose the first one would actually be the health care bill.
To me, I see a $1.2 trillion income transfer to private insurance companies required by law.
And in some measure, the way in which you oppose Obama's health care because you think it's a $1.2 trillion transfer to the insurance companies.
Yes.
Yes.
Where did you hear that?
Because I haven't heard that.
Well, because it is essentially requiring people to purchase health insurance, adding for the insurance companies, what, $47 million, $38 million new customers.
I ought not tell you what I'm going to tell you because I'm going to turn you when I finish here you're going to love Obama again Well, I would like to.
I'm going to tell you the truth.
I know I'm going to regret telling you this, but I'm going to do this for the larger audience out there.
Here's what you have been led to believe is a $1.2 trillion transfer to the insurance agency is actually this.
The health care plan, and there are five different ones, but the best guess is that the final version will indeed require everybody to have insurance.
On the face of it, it looks like where they go to get it, they're going to go private insurance agent.
There is a fine if you don't get insurance.
The IRS will be investigating to see whether you have health insurance, and you'll be fined.
The fine will be priced in such a way that it will be easier to pay the fine than it will be to buy insurance.
This is by design.
Now, the next thing to happen is that there will also be a public option in the plan, which will be cheaper than any private insurance plan.
And the objective then is to get as many employers as possible to dump their current insurance plans with private insurance companies and go on the public option.
And that will then destroy the private insurance agent.
That is the ultimate objective of the Obama health care plan, which you ought to like.
Well, I would say, though, that one of the things on the political website, it seems to be a consistent message is that Obama is not invested in the public option.
And Olympia Snow seems to be aware of the power of the United States.
What website?
What website?
Politico.
That you quoted earlier.
Well, see, I understand your confusion now because these guys, for most of the state-controlled media, they're not.
You really trust me on this, Dwight.
You can't trust them.
It's not just politico.
You just can't trust any of them.
Obama says there won't be a public option.
And the reason he's saying it is because there's so much opposition to it.
And he needs members of Congress to vote for this thing.
So he's made people think he's going to take it off the table.
If you believe anybody about anything ever in your life, including your mom and dad, believe me when I tell you that the entire sole, 100% reason for national health care reform is a public option.
There is no reason for Obama to do this if there isn't one.
And trust me, it may not be in there the first year.
It may not be in there the second year.
But we've played soundbites on this program of Obama from 2007 and 2008 saying it may take 15 years to wipe out private insurance, but that's the objective.
It's the only way we can make health care free or fair for everybody.
So you need to relax.
Well, the other element to it is, like I said, it seems that Olympia Snow and those folks have been more driving the debate than the 51 Democrats who said they support public options.
But the other element is the question of if the Obama administration has negotiated with drug companies to get those industries on his side in this debate, this would include part of that.
What was it?
You're right about that.
It would prevent the ability of the public option to be tied to Medicare.
No, I was negotiating.
Look, you have no reason to believe me other than I'm an honest guy.
But let me tell you about that.
Yes, Obama made a deal with Big Drug.
Billy Tozen is their leader.
He's a former Republican member of Congress from Louisiana.
And what they did, they promised to give Obama $150 billion that Obama could use advertising health care and to say that the drug companies were part of his plan.
The drug companies, Dwight, agreed to this because it was their hope that Obama would be nice to him after all this was all done and exempt them from some of the hell he has planned for everybody else.
This is what I want you to believe.
And I know you won't, but I'm going to tell you anyways from the bottom of my heart because I know this guy.
I know people like him.
And in time, he's going to own the drug companies too.
So if you don't like drug companies, you're going to be prepared for not liking Obama.
Just like he owns the car companies and owns Wall Street, he's going to end up either controlling them or running or owning them outright.
But regardless, he is going to punish him.
And what I hear you saying is that you don't like big private sector corporations, big oil, big insurance, big pharmaceutical, big chicken.
And I just want you to be confident.
Obama has them all in his crosshairs.
He just can't tell everybody all at once.
That's what he's going to do.
You need to be patient out there, Dwight.
By the way, a couple points here before we get back to the phones.
The caller Dwight from Indianapolis, home of the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Hearsay.
Dwight said that, well, CNN says I'm the radio king, right?
That I am the king of all radio.
And Dwight called and said that I was polite, but some of the local hosts that he listens to in Indianapolis hang up on people and so forth.
And so I wanted to tell Dwight as a king of the talk radio kingdom.
I'm going to look into this because this is not how you run the kingdom.
Also, an excellent point from an email.
Not often that I miss making the best point to be made, but I did hear.
The guy who called from Lorain, Ohio, and wondered, well, who would you choose, a seven-year-old or the 75-year-old with cancer?
You know, I got sidetracked on telling him.
You're missing a point, folks, gang guy.
The point here is, I've never seen a story like this reported before.
They're all just setting up crisis, chaos, and so forth.
The answer is that we in the United States of America ought never have to face this question because we would all hope that the government would be looking at ways to expand health care for everybody, not ration it to find a way to have a bed for all who needed it.
This is the government.
We have a liberal government looking only at limitations and getting rid of people that they've not worthwhile, valuable, or whatever.
I got a bunch of emails over the weekend.
I didn't get back from hideaway location until last night, but I was checking emails.
I got a bunch of emails from people.
And every time I do a mention of Carbonite, I get email from people who say, save me.
It's saving.
Some people sign up for Carbonite and forget that they've done it because they never see it work.
It's always working in the background.
This backs up your hard drive off site online.
Anytime you're connected to the internet, Carbonite backs up your hard drive, which has data you will lose someday.
And these people sign up and they do it because it's like it's $55 a year, and it's even less than that if you use offer code Rush and a 15-day free trial.
So they try it and they sign up and they start using it and they forget it because you never see it working.
It's always in the background.
And all of a sudden, the hard drive blows up.
They go, oh, no, go.
And then they remember.
And they are so happy.
They share their joy with me.
They send me an email.
You save my hard drive.
You save my data because you restore it very simply if this happens on a new computer once your hard drive blows or if you fix the one that broke.
Go to carbonite.com, use offer code Rush, and get the free 15-day trial and two months free if you decide to buy.
Carbonite.com.
Mike in Washington, D.C. Hello, sir.
Russ, you're either absolutely ignorant or a complete ingrate, and I know you're not ignorant.
So ingrate must be it.
Listen, from the time Joe Lieberman came back to the Senate when it reconvened and after campaigning with John McCain and screwing the Democrats in every single way, Barack Obama opened up his arms to him.
The stimulus was one-third tax cut, another concession to right-wing Republicans.
What he should have done is gone back to the tax plan we had underneath Bill Clinton when everybody's votes were raising.
The Afghan war, there wouldn't be a debate on the Afghan war if Barack Obama was beholden to progressives.
He screwed progressives.
He's got this thing called a veel pen for progressives.
You know what a veal pen is?
You can't move around in it if you're a calf.
You're just sat there and you're fed every day, but you can't move.
That's how he treats progressives.
He puts progressives in this little veal pen.
He has meetings with them where Ron Emmanuel comes in and says, if you run ads against Democrats that aren't for the public option, you are S-bon stupid, and we're going to dry up your funding.
All of our institutional funders, we're going to take it.
And he's done that.
He's punished people by taking away their funding for criticizing Barack Obama from the left.
