Time Text
Wait a second.
I tell you sound by two or sound by three.
That's two.
I screwed up.
These things are rarely my fault.
That's why I can admit it.
Greetings, welcome back, Rush Limbaugh, America's real anchor man.
America's truth detector, the doctor of democracy.
Great to have you with us, folks.
Rushlin bought 800-282-2882 and the email address L Rushball at EIBNet.com.
Again, this morning, President Obama in the White House sounded Reagan-esque when he said that the American people are the ones who make the economy work.
They're the ones with business.
They're going to get us out of this mess.
It was a it was totally different than what he said 20 days ago when he said only government can do this.
People are beginning to focus now on the stimulus bill and they're focused on the specific elements of it.
For example, Drudge has one of these up here today.
355.
What is it?
355 million?
355.
Let me get to the exact uh let's see, where is this?
300.
Stick with me on this, folks, but 355.
335 million for STD prevention.
$335 million to prevent sexual transmitted diseases.
Let's get out the Barry White music.
Love Unlimited Orchestra.
What is this?
A condom program?
335 million.
People are starting to focus on on the individual elements here to try to indicate and it will prove that it's just a pork bill.
It's porculus.
The Heritage Foundation has a piece today by Brian Reitel, why government spending does not stimulate economic growth.
And he begins this way in a throwback to the 1930s and the 70s.
Democrat lawmakers are betting that America's economic ills can be cured by an extraordinary expansion of government.
This tired approach has already failed repeatedly in the past year, in which Congress and the President did four things.
One, they increased total federal spending by 11% to nearly three trillion.
And we must, you know, we have to we have to point this out.
The heritage guy here is exactly right.
The Bush administration spent crazily too.
The Bush administration created a new entitlement.
The Bush administration did all the and it didn't prevent a recession, did it?
All of that spending, perhaps, well, it didn't, it didn't lead to a to any kind of a uh a permanent economic recovery, an end to business cycles at all.
The Congress and the President enacted $333 billion in emergency spending.
They enacted $105 million in tax rebates, the uh the stimulus package back in the first part of the year.
Uh and they pushed the budget deficit to $455 billion in the name of stimulus.
Every one of these policies failed to increase economic growth.
And now, in addition to passing a $700 billion financial sector rescue package, the TARP bill, lawmakers have decided to double down on these failed spending policies by proposing a $300 billion economic stimulus bill.
Even though the last $455 billion in Keynesian deficit spending failed to help the economy, lawmakers seem to have convinced themselves that the next $300 or $850, whatever it is, will succeed.
It's not the first time that government expansions have failed to produce economic growth.
Massive spending increases, the 30s, the 60s, the 70s, they all failed.
See, this is the frustrating thing.
There's a track record of total failure for the Obama Democrat Party way.
And he knows it.
He knows it.
He's educated man.
He's smart man.
He knows it.
See, this is the this is the frustrating thing.
Obama knows this doesn't work.
The Democrats know it doesn't work in the terms they're discussing, yet they want to do it.
Why do they want to do it?
Well, it must work somehow.
It must accomplish something.
It does, folks.
It buys votes.
It secures what they consider eternal power for the Democrat Party.
But it doesn't revive the economy.
It buys votes by doing just the opposite.
It creates more poverty.
It creates more dependence.
That's the objective.
This is hideous.
And the president goes on television this morning from the White House and totally misleads the people of this country by telling them his bill will put the responsibility on them that it's up to them and only them as it always has been to make this economy sing.
This is this is it's it's outrageous.
He knows it, the media know it, everybody pushing this know that they are pushing a fallacy.
I'm being kind.
Everybody involved with pushing this knows that they are being fallacious, that they are prevaricating.
This is why they are all saying it's gonna get worse before it gets better, even with the stimulus program, because they know this is gonna make it worse.
They hope that the economy will eventually rebound on its own to help them out.
They know it's gonna get worse, which is why they're saying so.
The Obama administration is depressing hope.
The Obama administration is suppressing hope and change in all these things.
The Obama administration is trying to depress you.
This this heritage article, why government spending doesn't stimulate economic growth.
I found it.
Found it on their website, Askheritage.org.
They are producing new information and analysis on these spending bills daily.
For example, if an $800 billion stimulus plan is approved and 3.7 million jobs are really created, that's about 217,000 dollars per job.
Now I know that everybody gets a new job under this plan's not going to get paid 217,000, so where the hell is the rest of it going?
The S-Chip program, the state children's health program, if that's approved.
That effectively puts more kids in America on government health insurance than in private insurance.
And it by the way classifies kids as up to 30 years of age.
Now these are facts.
I found them at Askheritage.org.
Scholars are constantly researching.
You can find it at AskHeritage.org as well.
And this and much more.
It's an amazing.
It takes 25 bucks to join up, and you can submit a question.
What askheritage.org.
You have access to a database of scholarly conservative data that will blow your mind.
Try this headline from the French news agency.
Pardon me, Obama worries U.S. debt may shape his legacy.
Now, excuse me, uh, ladies and gentlemen, isn't it a little early to be worrying about your legacy?
We are in day what what dare we hear?
This is um day nine, day eight.
Day eight of the administration are worrying about the legacy.
He's worried about a re- I know he said he in that meeting last Friday.
He was he said if this doesn't happen, his re-election might not happen, and the re-election of Democrats might not happen.
That's exactly right.
That was in my official response to Myron York at uh at National Review Online.
Barack Obama told Republicans behind closed doors that he worried about the soaring U.S. debt because, quote, I'll be judged by the legacy I leave behind on the economy.
So he's I guess he's going to these Republicans, hey, you gotta help me out here.
I'm worried about my legacy.
I'm gonna be judged by the debt.
So everything's about him.
We have to do everything for him.
We gotta make sure that the jobs come back.
We gotta make sure the stimulus works.
We've got to make sure that he doesn't leave a legacy of burgeoning debt.
The Messiah.
Historic presidency.
We cannot allow it to fail.
He's too big to fail.
Audio sound bites.
Yes.
Montage, Chris Matthews, Nora O'Donnell, Pat Buchanan, and Mike Barnacle on MSNBC last night.
Rush has become the de facto leader of the Republican Party.
Is Rush Limbaugh now the face of the Republican Party?
Rush is emerging as the de facto leader of the loyal opposition, Rush Limbaugh now has a larger base and a more solid base of the Republican Party as a whole.
This morning on the Fox News Channel, Fox and Friends, the co-hostette, Gretchen Carlson, the weather guy Steve Deucey.
By the way, I'm going to be appearing with these guys tomorrow on the phone sometime after 8 30 on the Fox and Friends show with Deucey.
The DCCC is launching this online petition against Rush Limbaugh.
This is how he responded.
I am greatly puzzled.
Why would the Dems petition against me if I'm doing such terrible damage to the GOP?
Because the D GOP spokesman who thinks that Rush should not be the leader of the party.
Rush Limbaugh is having a good week.
First, the President of the United States calls him out.
Now the Democrats in Congress are uh taking a shot at him.
The big question is, will anybody sign the petition?
Because Russia's actually got an anti-democrat petition on his website, Rush Limbaugh.com.
Yeah, we had a little fun with it, but they will Oh yeah, they're gonna announce all kinds of people to say there's a consensus to shut me up.
There'll be a they'll they'll say their petition at the DCCC came up with a consensus to silence L. Rushbow.
What was that, HR?
Oh yeah.
Everybody from Acorn signing the Democrat, but of course.
Everybody from Media Matters, everybody from all the George Soros' Army probably signing it as well.
Total setup.
Anyway, gotta take a break.
We'll be back.
We'll continue.
Oh yeah.
Programming announcements before the program.
Well, let me just tell you one.
Let me just tell you one, because I know it is gonna make so many of you upset, but I don't know what to do about it.
I'm not going to be here next week.
Way back in December, with some friends when we were in Dallas at a Cowboys Giants football game.
We scheduled a week.
This next week, golf and football.
Uh it's gonna involve uh some trips to the left coast and then out to Hawaii uh for the uh for the NFL Pro Bowl, some golf in both places, and the reservations have been made, all the accommodation, all this stuff is made, and I'm announcing this today rather than on Friday.
In fact, I want to be honest, the staff, just to show you, my friends, how I totally fully respect you.
The staff wanted me to say nothing.
And when Monday came with me not here and the guest host, Jason Lewis, they wanted Jason, we uh Rush is gone.
We I I don't know where.
Uh maybe somebody knows where Rush is, but I don't, and I I'd have been told they won't be back this week.
They wanted me to do this so that you would conjure up all kinds of has he been kidnapped?
Uh is he on a stealth mission someplace?
Did they get to him?
They want, but I ladies and I would not use you that way.
I I would not toy at all with the deep bond of loyalty and respect that we have for one another here.
Uh and at the same time, if I did that, I guarantee you that the drive-by's focus next week would uh focus on me not being able to take it anymore and had left town to avoid the heat.
I just told you where I'm really going.
I'm not gonna get specific.
Where if I tell people where I'm going, I'm gonna be great greeted by a mob.
I'm I'm not gonna tell people where I'm going.
It's not a ruse, it's not a ruse.
It's not a ruse.
I'm flying to Tampa on Monday morning.
I'm not going to the Super Bowl.
I'm not go I have a s I have a suite at the Super Bowl that I that I put together for clients that are gonna be in the suite.
I rented it for the game.
We have a client dinner on Friday night.
I'm going over there for that, and I'm coming back home.
I'm playing golf Saturday.
I got a dinner party Saturday, and I got my own Super Bowl party at my house on Sunday.
On Monday, I'm flying to Tampa to pick up some people and heading to the left coast.
Okay.
You you do you buy you?
You're not buying this.
You're not buying this.
Back me up on this.
You've known since December that next week I'm gonna be off.
You okay, you do know that.
Because all these, you know, uh MSNBC next week, the headlines.
Has it finally gotten to Limbaugh?
Can he no longer take the heat?
Did the Did the petition work?
Did the petition drive Limbaugh not only off his show but out of the country?
Blah blah blah.
That's gonna be the fo that's why I'm telling you now.
And I know some of you how can you leave now?
Folks, let me explain this to you.
Under that theory, I could never leave.
And everybody you we all need to recharge.
But you were just gone between Christmas and New Year.
Yeah, but I really didn't want to be gone that week.
There's a that's a no ratings week and staff vacations.
We did that that's that's but you were still gone.
Yeah, and so were you.
I guarantee you weren't listening to radio then, you're out visiting the family and so forth and so on.
I know I'm gonna catch heat for this.
How can you leave during folks?
This is an epic battle.
It's an epic battle.
Epic means long.
It will be a long bat that there is nothing that's going to happen next week because I'm gone.
I'm sure they'll try some things, but I will be sh should there be an emergency.
I will be available to phone in and so forth and co-opt my own show from uh from the from the guest host.
I don't anticipate that.
But using this theory, but you can't go look at what's happened.
There's always gonna be something happening with this team in the White House.
There's always going to be.
They never sleep, they're 24-7.
How do we take over this country?
How do we advance our leftist agenda?
And uh believe me, uh this there will be nothing lost, no ground will be lost.
Uh but it's I don't see that I cannot win.
Now I got the staff talking, trying to make me feel guilty themselves.
Now you you've just you've just given the Democrats an opening.
Now they're eagerly planning for next week and so forth.
Uh anyway, I wanted to be upfront and honest with you about it.
Whatever damage and harm accrue to me over this, I'm willing to take.
We'll be back.
We'll be back.
Oh, yeah, music maestro Barry White and the Love Unlimited Orchestra to accomplish our company 35 million dollars to prevent gongria, as my health teacher called it.
Syphilis, herpes, and other STDs in the stimulus bill.
Not the most romantic, Barry White, too.
Leave it up there, Mike.
Not the most romantic, but um nevertheless, um it's a nice dance tune, fast dance.
Love's theme is the quintessential STD theme for the stimulus bill.
The Obama theme, music maestro Barry White, wife Glow Dean.
White wine on the white piano.
Always love those pictures of Barry White, don't it?
Barry White was an inspiration for fat guys everywhere.
Here he is, decked out at 350 pounds in his all-white suit, drinking white wine with a slinky model, and you knew where they were gonna end up.
Ah, here we go.
Music maestro Barry White, the Love Unlimited Orchestra.
Get your STD prevention kit via the Obama stimulus.
Yeah, they should throw in some cigarettes in this for afterwards.
I lived in Pittsburgh.
This stuff was out.
I remember playing this stuff on the radio.
Okay.
Let me get back to the phones.
Uh, we'll go back to uh South Holland, uh what?
South Holland where?
Where where you Tom, where is South Highland?
It's in Illinois, just about a mile south of Chicago.
Great to have you on the program.
Thank you.
An honor of privilege to speak to you, Russ.
That's uh the privilege to speak to the leader of Radio Free America.
Appreciate that, sir.
Thank you.
Two things I want to get uh off my chest.
The first one is when this started, this concerted effort that you probably knew about that they wanted to get rid of you.
It brought back memories of the nineteen sixties at the height of the Cold War.
I'm going to be sixty-six in a couple of months.
So I was I lived through quite a bit.
And in those days, they taught you anti-communist training uh sessions because they wanted you to recognize socialism or communism and the insidious nature of it and how it can take over, which it is probably happening today.
And the one of the first steps is what they do is bring about uh accumulate, pick up, round up all of the intelligent free thinkers, and eliminate them.
And in the old days it was elimination by firing squad, but today we're a little bit more on the uh polite side.
Hold your thought there, because that's that is exactly that is ext.
He's you sound like my dad here.
We've got to take a brief time out out there, Tom, but we'll be right back to you after this.
Hey, folks, this is fabulous here.
Hey, Reuters story at a Taliban in Afghanistan is told Barack Obama that his plan to close club Git Mo is a good step.
Uh but peace was only possible if he withdraws forces from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Hang on, you guys, that may be coming.
Either they're Ralph Peters thinks we might have a an Afghan uh like Vietnam Quagmire over there, but the Taliban says the Guantanamo closure's a positive step uh step, and they approve.
Back to uh Tom.
South Holland, Illinois.
Now you um he he wants to uh make a couple of points here.
One of the points is that back in the mid-sixties, in the mid in the midst of the cold war, our culture, our schools, our society warned us how to spot communists, warned little kids, and they told us what would be one of the first things communists would do, and you just said round up who?
The free thinkers, the uh logical thinkers, all the intelligent people.
That's what they would do.
They would round them up, and that's who they got rid of first.
You know who my my dad always told me they'd get rid of first be the journalists.
Yes, well, the well, see now that's not happening because there's a supplemental thing to what I just said.
Well, because we're they're not intelligent in the brightest thinkers.
They're followers, they're they're part of the crowd now.
Right.
The supplemental thing was at that time he said, unlike Europe, where they marched into the countries to take them over, he stated at that time in the middle to late sixties, we would never be taken from without.
We will be taken from within.
Exactly what he said.
I remember I know this, and a lot of people to this day believe that you know the nine of the ten points of the communist manifesto have been achieved here, one of them being public education and so forth.
I know I did I hear talk to people uh frequently who uh who think this.
You know, but the the important thing is is Well, number can I get one other thing into the Yeah, we'll go go ahead.
Number two is this.
Now, you've always said that your program was an open program, and you could hear both sides of the of the uh argument.
Is this correct?
Yeah, I I have to present what the libs believe in order to contrast.
Okay, well, in doing so, I just happen to have right here next to me Barack Obama's stimulus package who'd like to say a couple of words to you if you'd like to hear him.
What's I don't understand.
Well, here, let me let the stimulus package speak to you.
Ready?
Okay, thank you very much.
Uh every time he speaks, I get a mad taste for bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich, Rush.
You're perfectly right.
Keep it up.
Thank you very much, sir.
I uh I appreciate it.
Yeah.
Um he was uh one one of his points was he was gonna sort of chide me.
Because he's he was gonna say, You knew.
You knew when you said you hope Obama fails, you knew what was gonna happen.
Of course I knew.
Of course I folks, I've been doing this twenty years.
I know my enemy.
I know the liberals like I know every square inch of my glorious naked Marty.
During that day where I, you know, I talked about a newspaper asking me for an op-ed, 400 words on my hopes for Obama.
I went through the whole thing.
I said, I is it's more liberalism, it's more socialism.
I don't want that.
I don't want more liberalism.
I want that not to work.
I want it to fail.
I hope he fails.
I don't need four hundred words, I need four.
And I said, I, and I'm gonna say this on purpose, I I want the drive by's putting this on television four times a day.
And they've complied.
They did it.
They're taking it out of context.
I knew they would.
But here's the thing.
You see, ladies and gentlemen, I I very seldom talk about my marketing strategy because my belief is you execute it.
You don't tell anybody about it.
You don't prepare them for it.
You just do it.
You know, why tell people how you plan to separate them from their money, for example?
You just do it.
I'm talking about retail and public relations marketing plans.
Okay, here's the circumstance, just a window into my fertile mind.
Here we are, the new president is obviously running as fast as he can to the liberal left.
I have known it since I first started studying him.
I have known he's not a moderate.
I have known he's not a centrist.
I have known that he doesn't want to take anybody's ideas that are not his.
He'll say he does, but he is who he is.
He's an extreme radical leftist who talks a conservative game to mask it.
His demeanor but belies the fact that he is who he is.
His demeanor you'd never think this guy's a radical.
You would never think he's an extremist unless you took seriously who his mentors are.
Jeremiah Wright, Father Flegger, uh Louis Farrakhan, uh the whole whole list of these people that we weren't allowed to talk about during the during the campaigns.
I mean, Obama's telling the Republicans not to listen to me, but it's okay for him to listen to Jeremiah Wright, for example.
So in my mind, I know who he is and I know what he's going to do.
And I have no doubt, zero doubt about where Obama wants to take this country and why.
He wants to move it far left.
He wants the government to be as large as it can.
He wants power.
He wants to punish success.
He wants to try to make everybody as equal and the same as possible, because that's fair.
There is nothing about him that has uh an adoration or respect for capitalism.
Uh look at the stimulus bill, and you can see there's there's to me, anyway, there's no question about this.
Now, when I gaze out across the country, and I look at what is called the mass media, I see no person, entity, network.
I see no attitude, no similar attitude reflected.
I see no skepticism, I see no curiosity, I see no informed knowledge, I see nothing but pure groupy idolatry from a constitutionally charged business designed to be suspicious of people who want power and to vet them and to find out who they are.
So the mass media is selling a version of Obama that he wants sold.
They are helping to advance it, to promote it and promulgate it.
Now what am I to do?
I love my country.
I I I was born at one of the best times in in world history to be born.
We all were.
Look at the opportunity that we have had because of the diligent hard work sacrifices of our forebears.
Look at the abundance into which we were born.
I don't have kids, but I've got nieces and nephews, and I've got a lot of family that have kids, cousins, so forth.
You have kids and and grandkids.
And part and parcel of responsibility is a human being, especially an American, when we are born and in and and inherit such a wonderful place.
It has to be incumbent on all of us to first and foremost want to pass that on to others.
Why would we want we uh we always hear parents say, I want I don't want my parents or I want my kids to have a better life than I had.
It's natural, there's nothing wrong with that.
And it's true.
So I firmly believe that the policies of the left, I don't care who runs them, I don't care who's implementing Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, I don't care who's implementing them.
They're bad.
They're destructive.
They eliminate or damage individual freedom.
They destroy lives in the sense that they destroy the quest for excellence.
They destroy the quest for individuality.
They make everybody feel like they're victims.
They make everybody feel like the world revolves around them.
They bust up families with welfare programs.
Liberalism is destructive, and it's a myth.
It's a series of myths, and it's destructive.
And it can destroy the country as we've known it if it's unchecked, like it has destroyed New Orleans or did, like it has destroyed Detroit, like it's on the verge of altering California in ways that people who are native to that state are crying about.
You go to any city that has been run by unchecked liberalism for years, and you will see a microcosm of what can happen to this country if they succeed to the delete degree they've succeeded in these cities.
Forty-seven percent of graduates in Detroit cannot read.
High school graduates.
Now the liberals, that's an opportunity.
To us, it's a crying shame.
So I'm I'm I'm being somewhat verbose here in explaining to you why I have this great fear and opposition to liberalism, socialism, collectivism, whatever you want to call it, the evidence is all around us to see the effects of it in Detroit, in New Orleans, prior to Hurricane Katrina, or any other place where nobody but liberals run the show.
I don't care if it's a city or a ward or a neighborhood or a whole state or a whole city.
You can see it.
It's there.
And conversely, you can see the prosperity that exists when it is not dominant, when liberalism is not dominant.
So believing this to the bottom of my heart and to the depth of my fertile brain, what do I see when I gaze out across the country but a bunch of people who've given up, who've been told there is no hope for them, there is no chance, either because of their gender, their skin color, their size, what have you.
I look at a media which is promoting the very things and people I fear will cause great damage and destruction to the country.
And so I decide to say I hope it fails.
And then I say, and person I hope he fails.
To me, it is the most basic common sense.
And what stuns me is that no one, apparently outside of our our little world here of conservatism, no one is examining at all the effects of this plan.
Which is depressing, it's frustrating, it makes you mad, but I'm not one just to sit around and take it.
And so, okay, if it takes somebody dropping a little bomb to cause some people to wake up and at least start thinking, even if they're knee-jerk reacting, I'll gladly do it.
And so, damn well I intended to say it.
Saying it again now, I hope he fails.
Because my friends, America wins if liberalism fails.
And that's the bottom line.
America wins if this plan fails.
If this plan, because it can only fail.
This plan, this has never worked.
What they're trying has never worked.
And this plan will fail, and it's going to cause pain and suffering, and it's going to be a long recovery from it.
And I believe that people in this country get what they want and get what they vote for.
Based on, you know, a whole bunch of factors that make them think and vote the way they do.
I hope it fails.
I hope liberalism fails every time it's tried because it has.
I don't want it to succeed.
America succeeding.
And everyone talks about, but we all want our new president to succeed.
We all no, we all want our new president to do the right thing.
Big difference.
We all want our president to do the right thing.
If we're attacked by something, we want him to do the right thing.
We don't know if closing Guantanamo is the right thing.
We do not know if turning these people loose and trying them in U.S. courts is the right.
Well, I don't think it's the right thing.
I know it's not the right thing.
And I know this economic porculus bill is not the right thing.
I want America to succeed.
I love my country.
I want it to remain the place with more freedom and more opportunity and more prosperity than any place on the planet, and I want the rest of the planet to learn from us.
And this ain't the way to do it.
So I want America America to succeed.
My whole objective here is to maintain an America in the image of its founders and founding.
Where individual liberty and freedom reward the human spirit and the yearning to be free, the entrepreneurial desire to excel at something.
That's the greatest propellant this economy has ever had.
And I'm all for it continuing.
I don't want to starve this engine of fuel.
And the government is not fuel and it's not an engine.
The government is a giant roadblock.
And the people trying to build the government are, in my mind, moving as forward toward America not being the best it can be.
So that's what I hope it fails means.
We'll be back after this.
I got an interesting email from a guy, David Lemon, who lives in Montana.
And it's Montana.
Rush, I had my bank account cleaned out this past summer.
It took me months to get my life back together.
The day this happened, I had signed up for LifeLock.
I'd forgotten about LifeLock over the month since I auto-pay, so I never have to worry about having it there to protect me.
Well, this past week I went to change my cell phone service.
I had my cell from the old service with me, but it was deader than a doornail.
When I was going through the approval process at the cell company, the guy in the phone said there was a fraud alert on my old cell account.
Fraud?
Well, I thought to myself, found out that LifeLock had put a lock on my being able to change my account until they could call me on my current c to make sure that it was me monkeying around with my old account.
My phone was dead.
I had to drive 60 miles to charge up the phone and call them back.
It took some time, but after having lost all of my identity for two months, this was nothing.
Montana, one guy lost his identity in Montana, and we have credit card databases that are being pilfered so frequently by political organizations, by the way, or little 25 cent charges here and there that add up.
Life lock can protect you just as it did this guy.
This is why they make a guarantee.
They'll cover you up to a million dollars in fraud loss because they stop it before it happens.
LifeLock.com offer code rush.
Don't forget that, or there's a phone number 800 4404833, and use the promo code rush.
The guy is right.
It's a hassle, and you need not experience it.
This is a great opening sentence, Victor Davis Hanson on the corner at National Review Online.
If anybody wish to know what the baby boomer generation would do when in its full maturity it hit its first self-created big-time recession, I think we are seeing the hysterical results.
