Her name is one of my all-time top 10 favorite females.
I love the name Nina.
So you make sure she holds on.
Got that?
Greetings, my friends.
Welcome back.
Rush Limbaugh, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network.
That's who I am.
America's most listened to radio talk show.
Great to have you on over 600 fabulous, fine, great radio stations.
Coast to coast, meeting and surpassing all audience expectations daily.
Telephone numbers 800-282-2882.
The email address is LRushbow at EIBnet.com.
I want to go back to our last caller, Tony from Palm Harbor, Florida.
He was all over me.
You people heard it.
I was sitting here minding my own business.
I wasn't bothering anybody.
And I came under assault from a caller.
A friendly caller, but nevertheless, I was under assault.
You all heard it.
And what did Tony say?
He says, you've got to back off on McCain.
You've got to stop making him sound like he's a lunatic.
He just got out of the asylum.
You do that after he's elected.
Whether the Supreme Court's too important.
All this other global warming.
The court's too important.
We've got to change this court.
And I asked Tony, I said, do you understand what's going on here?
Do you know what I'm doing?
I don't want to be blatant and bold about it.
Sort of like a marketing plan.
You don't tell anybody about it.
You just execute it.
Some people have figured out what my game plan is on this.
Others haven't.
If you haven't, you're going to continue to be confused and think I'm obnoxious.
Others of you will praise my brilliance.
But I want to say again, and I want a little bit more time doing it here to Tony and Palm Harmer and all the rest of you who believe that this election is crucial about the Supreme Court.
It's crucial about everything.
That is why.
That is why there has been so much passion about this from the Republican primaries to the present.
Now, when it comes to Supreme Court justices, John McCain does not appoint them.
He nominates them.
And then you know what happens?
Then Patrick Leahy and his Democrats get hold of him at the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Yeah.
Who we got on that?
We got Biden.
We've got Durbin.
We got Senator Kennedy.
We got Senator Feinstein.
We've got the usual suspects on the Democrat side.
And let me just tell you, Tony, if the Democrats expand their majorities in both the House and the Senate, as current polling suggests they will, it ain't going to matter who McCain nominates.
He could nominate the most brilliant conservative jurist who has a flawless resume and reputation.
He doesn't stand a prayer.
Doesn't stand a prayer.
The Senate confirms justices.
We would have more conservatives on the appellate court today, but for the gang of 14.
If we could have gotten rid of this, pulled a nuclear option and got rid of these filibustering, we wouldn't be where we are today on all this.
Let's not pretend all this gets fixed in this election.
You know, I would suggest, Tony, and many of the rest of you, that one of the reasons Senator McCain has moved on anything during this campaign is because I and some others have continued to point out where McCain is moving too far left.
For example, he was praised mightily by me on this program for doing a 180 on offshore drilling.
He'd just come around.
If he'd just go to Anwar, if he would just go up there and learn that it's not the Grand Canyon and then change his mind on that, we would have a huge difference in which to contrast ourselves from the Democrats.
And Anta, there is no better issue than gas prices, supply and demand that Democrats are making.
It's so simple.
And yet we need to stop all this talk about greening the government and this stuff.
People don't care about that right now.
They care about the gasoline price.
And they're sophisticated enough to understand that Democrats are standing in the way of doing anything that lowers the price.
We've got a made-to-order issue here.
It's just waiting to be teed up.
If I were to just sit here and cheerlead every day, it wouldn't work.
I'd lose half my audience because I'd lose my credibility.
This election's, yeah, it's about the courts.
It's about capitalism.
It's about individual liberty.
It's about the detainees of war on terror.
It's about a lot of things.
If Congress passes a massive regulatory bill that expands government like never before in the name of dealing with global warming, the court doesn't have to do anything, Tony.
If Obama and his gang get their way on this, we are going to have the most devastating attack on limited government in 70 years.
I shouldn't challenge this.
And one other thing, Tony, I'm addressing this because Tony might have articulated, well, in fact, I know he did because I've had similar calls in the recent past from people who have also said, well, can I take it easy on McCain?
And I've even had people out in public when I have not been on the air.
Can you kind of take it easy on McCain?
Why should I have to change?
No, I'm serious.
Why should I have to change?
Why should I have to sweep my principles aside or under the desk?
Why is that up to me to do that?
You, you, I know you don't like it when I say you people.
You know who you are.
You should have thought about all this when you're out there voting for Huckabee.
You should have thought about all this when you saw McCain and Huckabee teaming up to screw all the other nominees in our party.
You're calling me, telling me I got to bite the bullet.
Why don't you call McCain's office and demand he drop this environmental BS?
Instead of demanding it, I drop my principles.
It's probably easier getting through to the McCain office than it is getting through to me.
It'll take you a lot less time getting through to them than it is to me.
But seriously, why should I change?
I know what you're saying.
I have empathy.
Rush, you don't have to change, but you don't have to destroy the guy's chance.
It's just the opposite.
We're doing just the opposite here, folks.
We're trying to do just this.
You think I want Obama?
I can get real.
We can't afford this guy.
I don't care how you calculate how you afford something.
We can't afford our liberty.
We can't afford economically.
We cannot afford this guy.
We cannot afford this guy with the massive majorities he's going to have in the House and the Senate in any number of ways.
But at the same time, it's not just McCain on the ballot.
There's a whole bunch of Republicans and conservatives out there who look to get swamped right now unless something's done.
And they are Republicans, and nobody's out there.
They don't, you see any coattails here?
There's a lot at stake here, and the solution to it is simply not defeating Obama.
That's a big part of it.
But people just like Obama are going to be running the House and the Senate.
Let me give you an example.
Human events, a piece here by John Geezy.
The Speaker of the House made it clear to me, he writes, and more than 40 of my colleagues yesterday, that a bill by Representative Mike Pence, who is a very strong conservative from Indiana, a bill by Pence to outlaw the fairness doctrine, would not see the light of day in Congress in 2008.
In ruling out a vote on Pence's proposed Broadcasters Freedom Act, Speaker Pelosi also signaled her strong support for revival of the fairness doctrine, which would require radio station owners to provide equal time to radio commentary.
That's not actually current.
Fairness doctrine is not equal time.
Equal time is a totally different thing.
Here's how the fairness doctrine works, or used to.
I'll use myself.
Let's go back to Sacramento.
Let's do it here.
Let's apply it as it does today.
I talked about the leftists and their environmental wacko agenda.
Okay, so how many leftist groups are there in this country that could call every one of my 600-plus radio stations and say, we don't like what Limbos said, and we need a chance to respond.
And so you've got 600 general managers of radio stations.
Well, after the law says I have to put them on here.
So you've got to put on non-professionals.
You've got to give them some time.
They get a chance to answer this stuff.
You end up with boring radio, and you end up with a nightmare of logistics.
And the way it would manifest itself over passage of time is that a lot of management just wouldn't put up with it.
I can't run a radio station this way where most of my day has spent answering a phone from a bunch of liberals demanding that they get some time on the radio to respond to whatever my conservative hosts are saying.
And so they shut it down.
They kill a format and they go play Chinese opera or whatever.
And that's the objective.
And so this guy, Geezy, John Geezy, was with 40 other journalists talking to Pelosi yesterday.
And he asked her, do you personally support revival of the fairness doctrine?
Yes, she said, without hesitation.
Yes, without hesitation.
The whole Democrat Party does.
If they get their way, if they have these swinging majorities, they're going to do their best to reimpose the fairness doctrine.
Now, we're not going to go down without a fight.
And I don't want to.
I'm not crying about this.
I'm just trying to illustrate what's at stake here.
It's a lot more than judges.
These people are going to try to consolidate their power and just get rid of anybody who disagrees with them.
All dissent is going to be squelched.
Pence has put out a statement.
U.S. Congressman Mike Pence gave the following speech on the floor of the House today, calling on Democrats to sign a discharge petition that would bring the Broadcaster Freedom Act to the floor of the House.
The Broadcaster Freedom Act would ensure that no future president could bring back the fairness doctrine without an act of Congress.
Pelosi quoted this morning, say she supports reviving the fairness doctrine.
One year ago, over 300 Democrats and Republicans stood together to oppose efforts to restore the so-called fairness doctrine to the airwaves of this country for a single year.
It was an encouraging vote.
But following that vote, I introduced the Broadcaster Freedom Act, which would permanently ban the fairness doctrine from ever coming back.
And so far, not one single House Democrat has signed our petition for an up or down vote on broadcast freedom.
And now we know why.
Asked yesterday if she supported reviving the fairness doctrine.
Pelosi said yes.
She told a meeting at the Christian Science Monitor that the Broadcaster Freedom Act would not receive a vote because the interest of my caucus is the reverse.
Mike Pence says, I say to Speaker Pelosi with respect, defending freedom is the paramount interest of every member of the American Congress.
I urge my Democrat colleagues to take a stand for freedom, oppose the Democrat leadership's plan to censor the airwaves of American Talk Radio and American Christian Radio.
Sign the discharge petition for broadcast freedom and help us send the fairness doctrine to the ash heap of broadcast history where it belongs.
Pelosi has sent the word out.
No Democrat in the House is going to sign that discharge position.
Needs 218 or 219 signatures.
And she sent down the message from on high.
So you see that wherever you look, whether it's global warming, whether it's the fairness doctrine, it doesn't matter, there is an all-out attempt here to snuff out as much individual liberty as possible.
It's been going kind of slow.
It's a bit like a trickle effect.
So the people haven't really noticed it.
I mean, the people losing their liberty have.
But it's been very, very gradual over years.
This is going to be a giant grab of federal power if these people get everything they want in the upcoming election.
All right, a brief timeout.
Your phone calls are coming up right after this, so stay tight.
All right, we are back and we go to the phone.
So this is Nina.
Nina, one of my old-time favorite top 10 female names.
Nina is in Youngstown, Ohio.
Nice to have you, Nina.
Hi, Rush.
My name is Nina, and like you said, then I want to tell you something, okay?
Yeah.
I'm not here to argue with you, but I am going to tell you I'm 39 years old and I'm half European and half American.
What part of Europe?
Greek-Italian.
Greek-Italian.
Yes.
So I lived 20 years in Europe.
I lived four years in London, seven years in Germany.
I've been in Italy and Spain.
I speak Greek, English, and German.
And I lived 20 years in the U.S. What are you doing in Youngstown?
That's besides the point.
This is what I wanted to tell you, okay?
It's not fair for you to knock down Europe because I'm going to give you an example.
Yes, Mussolini, Hitler, they were the Antichrists of their time.
But to the people over there, now Bush is the Antichrist for them.
Now, I'm going to tell you something because I lived in both, okay?
I've seen good and bad there, and I've seen good and bad here.
I've seen it both.
Listen to me.
Listen to me.
The United States has a big heart.
They embrace everybody.
They will open the doors to everybody.
They will say, come in if you believe what we believe.
But it has also made some of the people who are going to be able to do it.
We scrap that a long time.
You don't have to believe what we believe to get in.
Well, if I want to live here, I have to believe the same beliefs.
No, you don't?
Because we have to match.
No.
Yes, it's like a marriage.
It's like a marriage.
If we don't have common goals, common beliefs, how are we going to make it work?
But what I'm saying to you is this, okay?
I've seen wrong in both sides of the world.
I've been discriminated there.
I've been discriminated here.
I've been loved there.
I've been loved here.
But what I'm saying to you is this, okay?
Sometimes the United States does not use wisdom where they put their nose in.
Because I'm going to tell you something.
If you're over there and you're fighting for the oil and you have oil sources here and you're looking desperate to them, who got the upper hand?
They do.
Because let me tell you something.
If I got something and I want the same thing from you, this is what I'm going to do.
I'm going to pull back and say, you know what?
I'm going to use what I got.
I don't really need you like that.
You're missing the whole point of why I said what I said about Europe.
I understand why you said it.
Then tell me.
Tell me why I said that.
I'm offended by that, okay?
But what I'm saying to you...
Well, then why are you calling and reaming me up one wall and down the other here, then?
No, I'm just telling you that I've seen the best and bad of both worlds.
That's number one.
Number two, you're up to about number 25 now.
Relax.
Take a deep breath.
I'm about to go.
This is the presidential campaign.
Let me tell you something.
I give respect to McCain, okay, because he did fight in the war.
I respect him.
Obama can make a change.
Listen, listen, Obama can make a change.
He can make a change.
This is not about Obama.
This was not about the presidential campaign.
I know that.
I'm not giving you.
I'm not giving you a lot of people.
You got my comments on different issues.
Nina, you're not.
You didn't hear me, and I want you to try one more time.
Won't you look at me?
I'm giving you my comments on different issues because I can't be calling you every day on different issues.
What I'm saying is that you're not going to be able to do that.
And you've done so, and you have not been interrupted.
Now, look at me.
The commentary that I gave on Europe had to do with the fact that we have a distinguished, distinct American culture here.
We have our own constitution.
We have our own set of laws.
And we have people in this country trying to undermine all of that, trying to tell us that Europeans are the sophisticated ones, that we need to become more socialist in our politics.
We need higher unemployment.
We need more welfare payments.
We need a higher minimum wage.
We need to emulate the Europeans.
Europeans cannot defend themselves, Nina, if they are attacked.
Guess who they call?
Good old Uncle Sam, who shows up every time.
Yes, and they call United Nations, exactly.
They do not call the United Nations.
They call Uncle Sam.
The United Nations is as worthless.
It's worthless.
Okay, but what I'm saying to you, I agree with you on some of the things, okay?
Like the British people, they're paying for the queen, okay?
When they don't need to spend all that money while their people are starving.
We're not talking about the queen.
I understand that, but the point I'm trying to make to you is this: you talked about we should not copy Europeans.
I'm going to tell you something.
Europeans have some laws, the same like the United States, okay?
They copy the United States on certain things.
You're taking this way, way, way, way too personally.
No, no, no, no.
I'm saying they do copy the United States on some things, and their laws, they are.
I am talking about American liberals who want to sell this country out, Nina.
They say we should emulate Europe.
If we're going to copy somebody, maybe we should make sure somebody's better than we are.
And in many ways, there's nothing worth emulating, particularly the toilets.
You know what I'm talking about.
All right, I'm striking Nina from the list of old-time top 10 favorite female names.
It's a shame, too.
A genuine shame.
Get this.
This is from the St. Paul Pioneer Press by Joel.
I don't know how you pronounce Sucher, I think is how he pronounces the name.
U.S. mayors have solved all other problems resolved at their annual conference in Miami to stop providing bottled water for employees and guests.
250 mayors signing on to sing the praises of their own municipal water systems while also sheepishly having to confess that's where bottled water probably comes from in the first place.
We've had the stories of, can we trace the beginnings of this?
This bottled water thing, this is classic.
This is just classic the way the left works.
First, they tell us that the stuff coming out of the tap will kill us.
There's lots of germs and amoebas and scum floating around in there.
And the city water treatment plants are not doing their job.
It's really bad out there.
And then after that, here comes bottled water.
And he comes from places like France and all these artisan springs from these glaciers and the Alps from all over the world.
Beautiful labels.
Fiji.
By the way, the Fiji water guy, Dig Bucks, lives here in Palm Beach.
Damn straight.
Fiji water guy right up the road here.
Any rate.
So we're told to drink the, and then we're told, we're not drinking enough for good health.
But don't drink out of the tap because that's got amoebas and scum and you never know what's in there.
You can see some of the scum floating around and amoebas swimming.
You got to drink the bottled water.
They don't tell you not putting fluoride in the bottled water.
Therefore, your kids and your cavities increase, as do the trips to the dentists.
And we keep drinking the stuff and drinking this stuff and drinking this stuff.
And then we learn, then we learn that a lot of these bottled water companies are just kind of putting the bottles under the tap from the municipal system and mixing it with the so-called water from the ancient spring that's unpolluted and untouched by humanity and other habitat.
And then we find out that the bottles are causing global warming.
Then we find out that the bottles are polluting and destroying landfills and they're killing animals that try to eat them.
And then we find out the bottles are made from oil, plastics, petroleum-related products.
Then we're told the tap water, not all this takes years.
They were told the tap water is actually cleaner than the stuff in the bottles.
And we're also told, by the way, a gallon of bottled water, 10 times that of a gallon of gas, or five times or what have you.
Now we're told the bottled water stinks.
It's polluting everything.
It's causing global warming, pollution, all kinds of things rotten.
It's not any different than what came out of the tap.
So now these mayors get together and they start banning bottled water in their municipalities while at the same time touting the use of water from their own municipalities.
Getting the water rates back up.
This is just classic.
They take something, they started out as a health issue, and it transforms into a global warming environmental issue.
Then it becomes global warming environmentally destructive.
Now we have to ban it.
Talking about wasting water, how many of you people have taken my advice here and looked into a Renaissance tankless water heater?
You talk about wasting water and heating water that you're never going to use and spending it.
Think about this.
The way you should think about the way you're wasting water, fill up, go out and do it.
Go buy a bunch of bottled water and fill up your hot water tank with that.
And then sit around, wait for it to heat up, and then go take your showers or use it for whatever you need to, and then leave it alone for a while.
You know how much water you're wasting heating and reheating that water that's never used?
Never happened with a Renaissance tankless water heater.
The thing is amazing.
Hot water, the minute you turn that tap on, but you're not spending a lot of money to keep it hot while you're not using it.
Washing machine can be on.
The dishwasher can be on.
The kids can be up taking baths, showers, or what have you.
You think everything is going, you've got to wait.
Nope, you don't.
Just head into your own shower, turn it on, and it is there.
If you've got one of these tank heaters that's older than seven years old, it's waiting to blow up on you out there, trust me on this.
You're on borrowed time.
Go to the website here for the Renaissance Tankless Water Heater is foreverhotwater.com, and you can see how it works, and you can see how much you would save every month.
At the very least, I mean, if these mayors are going to ban bottled water in their own facilities, city halls, because it's wasteful, don't you think you should follow the lead of these brilliant?
Never mind that pitch.
Just do it on this basis.
You owe your bank account two minutes to learn more about Renai Tankless water heaters, how they work, how they can save you money, and give you hot water instantly when you need it.
Foreverhotwater.com.
This is Dawn in Indianapolis.
Welcome to the program.
Nice to have you here.
Thank you, Rush.
I had a wanted to respond to the gentleman who was on near the top of the hour.
That would be the guy from Palm Harbor, Florida, who was giving me some Tony.
That would give me some constructive criticism on Senator McCain.
Okay.
Well, I think Tony's been drinking the Republican water that for the past 30 years, conservatives have been told just vote Republican and we'll get the court back.
Well, as of right now, seven of the nine judges were nominated by Republicans.
Yes, that's true.
On the Supreme Court.
That's true.
So how many Republican judges do we need to get conservatives on there?
Well, they were nominated by Republicans, but not conservatives.
Okay.
Okay, it's a big difference.
Okay, well, then we keep getting, well, what is McCain?
I know.
That's.
We've been here, done this.
I know there's no, I know what you're saying.
There's no guarantee here.
Gang of 14 desire to please the left.
The left running the show anyway.
Yes, the ingredients are all there for disaster, but we are trying to thwart this.
I'm sure you understand that.
I know, but what guarantees do I have that McCain can't do any better than Bush or Reagan?
That's not the way to look at this.
Honestly.
No, no, it's not.
The way to look at this is, very simply, do you want Obama appointing them?
Well, Stevens, who you were saying was nominated by Ford.
These are the choices we have.
Right now, it's too late to complain about the choices.
The choice is McCain or Obama.
I knew you'd come around, Limbaugh.
I knew you'd see it someday.
And so.
Well, how do I, what guarantees do I have that McCain is going to do any better than Obama?
You don't have guarantees about anything, but common sense here should tell you that Obama.
I agree.
It's disaster.
It is going to be a literal disaster.
So Obama's fast disaster and McCain's slow disaster.
Well, no, I've not reached this fatalistic point that you have seemed to arrived at here, Dawn.
I'm not there yet.
It's not over.
The election, and even after the election, nothing's ever over.
There is no end.
Nothing ever ends.
We just think it does.
We want it to end.
Okay, this is.
But it's not over.
These kind of things are never over.
Okay.
Even when you lose, you still have a chance to turn it around and win.
Loss is not final.
Defeat is never the end.
It seems to me we got a lose-lose situation.
We got to lose Louisiana situation, did you say?
No, lose-lose.
We got a lose-lose situation.
their candidate we lose i know i know i know i know is this If this isn't cool, we've all heard about the attempt by the European brewery, InBEV, to take over Anheuser-Busch St. Louis for what was it,
60-some-odd billion.
And everybody's been worried about, oh my God, oh, no, oh, no, we're going to lose an American icon.
This is horrible.
This is horrible.
They employ so many people.
Everybody's been having a cow about this, as you well know.
Well, leave it to the drive-bys to get to the real problem here.
I am holding here, ladies and gentlemen, in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers a printed copy of today's story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch by Tony Messinger.
And the headline says it all.
Would InBEV cease the Anheuser-Busch flow to political coffers?
Here we go.
This is the real concern.
I should have known it.
When it comes to politics, Anheuser-Busch St. Louis is more than the king of beers.
It's the Clydesdale of Cash.
The St. Louis brewery and its employees give big dollars to candidates without regard to party.
The brewery is the 63rd biggest corporate political donor in the nation over the last 20 years, contributing more than $11 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
In federal campaigns, Anheuser-Busch is number one among beer and wine companies, giving nearly 10 times more than Miller.
According to the center, in 2000, 2004, and 2008 federal elections, the company has been Missouri's top corporate giver to political candidates and parties, and the race isn't even close.
And that has political fundraisers worried about Anheuser-Busch's possible sale to Belgium beard giant InBev.
Republican political consultant and fundraiser John Hancock said it could have an impact on campaigns from the U.S. Senate down to state representatives.
Without question, Anheuser-Busch has been the marquee financial supporter for political causes throughout the state.
This is I'm so embarrassed that I didn't realize this from the get-go.
When all these politicians stood up and sort of whining and moaning about losing an American icon, I should have known it was B.S.
This is a legitimate fear.
I mean, if this outfit's given $11 million over what a number of years, is some outfit in Brussels going to do that?
They may give more, though.
You never know.
Because they're going to have a lot of people upset with them for having bought Anheuser-Busch if this thing goes down.
Let's just Ralph Nader.
Ralph Nader says Monday in an interview with the Rocky Mountain News newspaper.
There's only one thing different about Barack Obama when it comes to being a Democratic presidential candidate.
He's half African American.
Whether that will make any difference, I don't know.
I haven't heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos.
Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead.
What's keeping him from doing that?
Is it because he wants to talk white?
He doesn't want to appear like Jesse Jackson?
I don't know about you, but I am offended.
He's talking white.
They're worried about some sort of hidden videotape with his wife talking or saying white.
And here's Ralph Nader, a big, what is talking white?
Somebody explain that to me.
What is talking white?
I am fed up being offended like I'm fed up being attacked like this because of the way I talk.
Talking white?
What does talking white mean I don't care about lead poisoning?
Does talking white mean that I don't care about what goes on in the ghettos?
I don't care about payday loans or predatory lending or asbestos.
What is talking white?
I know I don't got no slave blood.
Well, who knows?
Sturdily, I haven't put my blade, my blood under the microscope and the hemoglobin like you did yours.
And then what is this?
Half African American.
Here, Ralph Nader, he's half African American.
He's talking white.
Where are the Justice Brothers when you need them?
Time is tight here, folks.
I think we squeeze it in.
Chilli Coffee, Ohio.
This is Tom.
Nice to have you on the program, sir.
Hey, Mega Ditto's rush from Ohio's First Capital.
Thank you.
I want to know what we ought to do to counteract the Obama-Clinton dream team.
Had nothing dreamy about that.
Well, you know he's going to name her.
No, I don't know that he's going to name her.
He's out in Hollywood raising money from his buddies now to help her pay off her debts.
Pay off her vendor debt.
Yeah, her election debt.
No, this is like the hotel bills and the air charters.
This is not the campaign donations she loaned herself.
This is strictly the caterers, the hotel bills, and it doesn't matter.
It's about $10 million.
But why would he be doing that if he's not going to name her?
I think it was part of the deal together to get the hell out of the way.
Okay.
So, so, well, she did not have to quit.
She could have kept this up all the way through the convention.
She did not have to quit.
There's no question this deal was done long ago.
Don't you think there may be a deal in there to name her Veep?
He might name her the Veep.
