	into uh combat zones you have your skill level over here and um as your fear level goes up like if you touch near the top here it is where death is okay because for a number of reasons when you first enter this is and this is also the time i i probably this up but the time of your deployment really yeah ignore these i don't know what i'm talking about so they they start here day one you're just in theater brand new your your likelihood of death so say in vietnam or something uh is going to be quite high because you're scared as fuck and
	you don't have any idea what's going on like you don't really know how the unit operates you don't know the area you don't know the land you don't know what's normal you don't you don't fucking so your fear level is way up here and your skill level is is not there and um as it goes on your fear will subside and your skill levels increase you know driving that that wave down so you can't kind of get to this valley here where you get used to what you're doing and uh you kind of know you know the ropes now and you know you've done this a million times it's still scary but yeah you get it but there's this phenomenon in these deployments
	um that this guy wrote i rarely recommend this book if you find this stuff interesting uh on killing by lieutenant colonel uh dave grossman or on combat uh as well he wrote a couple of these towards the end the fear starts to increase because in getting inside their own heads uh the guys start to think well you're getting close to the end like oh and you've seen so much death and shittiness happen already it's just a matter of time sooner or later it's going to be me the longer i'm here every minute i'm here the more like they think the longer they're there the more likely it is that they're going to die and all this kind of stuff and then they start doing things differently out of fear they start make they start doing things they

	Picked up the phone and called Veterans Affairs Canada to get treatment for his combat-related PTSD and a traumatic brain injury.
	He expected help getting better and getting his life back.
	Instead, he got an unexpected and unwanted offer to help him end it through medically assisted death.
	Multiple sources have told Global News Conference was shocked.
	The agent on the other end of the phone raised MAID as an alternative to treatment out of the blue.
	In a statement to Global News, VAC confirmed the allegation, saying, the department was recently made aware of an incident involving a veteran client and a Veterans Affairs Canada employee, where medical assistance in dying was discussed inappropriately.
	VAC deeply regrets what transpired.
	The incident has left the veterans community feeling betrayed by the department.

	Reinforcing that with an offer of MAID Can really be a recipe for disaster for somebody who may already be suffering ideation or suicidal thoughts.
	Wounded Warriors Canada, a charity that helps injured vets, says they are deeply concerned by the incident.

	Maxwell says veterans will often only come forward once, and an offer like this could deter them.
	Get one chance as every conversation matters.
	The department says it is investigating and has apologized, noting medically assisted death should not be discussed by VAC employees or offered as a service.
	However, VAC wouldn't say how many vets may have received similar offers.
	In a statement, Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence McCauley discussed the interaction, saying this should never have happened and that it was completely unacceptable.
	The minister promised to take action so this never happens to another veteran.
	Both he and the department say that administrative action is being taken against the person who made the offer, but wouldn't say what that meant.

	I know I never had all the answers.

	But it was the gift of a lifetime to get to confront these issues on international television with the backing of CNN.

	We need people to say the things we need to say because the media is not doing it.
