| Mixed weekend, actually. | |
| There's a lot of good. | |
| The worst, I think there's the death of this wonderful man who's covered his family. | |
| I think about him a great deal, actually. | |
| Goes through a rally, doesn't come back. | |
| Such is life, the unpredictability of it all. | |
| I'll talk about him momentarily, but it is a there's so much to say. | |
| I'll begin with a partially emotional and partially observational insight. | |
| Whatever your position on the man, he is larger than life. | |
| And in case that was not obvious before the assassination attempt, it was certainly obvious during the attempt. | |
| What I think is lost among so many, especially his haters, is he genuinely loves this country. | |
| I remember saying that to my wife during his presidency. | |
| He genuinely loves it. | |
| That counts for something. | |
| I won't use this particular moment to juxtapose him with his enemies. | |
| People who think that if you put the American flag out in front of your home on July 4th or Memorial Day or some other day, that means that you're a reprehensible human being. | |
| Or worse, you're putting out the flag of white supremacy. | |
| So to them, this deeply felt love of country doesn't make sense and is not even real to them. | |
| But he does, and that's what gave him the energy to get up. | |
| Most human beings, whether they're running for president or anything in life, shot and bloodied might panic, might just yell out, | |
| I'm shot, I'm shot, which would be the most logical thing in the world to do. | |
| I'm shot. | |
| Get me out of here. | |
| It would be completely understandable. | |
| Nobody would have thought twice. | |
| Man is shot. | |
| And he was quite bloodied. | |
| Not all the photos revealed it, apparently, but it doesn't matter. | |
| And he puts his hand on his ear and it's filled with blood. | |
| And he just continues, in a sense, his rally speech. | |
| That's larger than life. | |
| Anyway, there is a great deal to say. | |
| I have probably a week's worth of talks prepared, a week's worth of shows. | |
| What I did, among other things, was compile a very, very partial list of the people who have lied about him for all of the last eight years. | |
| Hitler, fascist. | |
| Just last week, I told you about the cover of New Republic, which I described as a form of pravda in our time. | |
| And it was once great. | |
| I subscribed to it from college on, I think even in high school, showing him as Hitler. | |
