Dennis Prager Show - Inside The Mind Of A "Never Trump" Voter Aired: 2024-10-22 Duration: 09:21 === Unexpected Ally (05:18) === [00:00:00] Brett Stevens and Gail Collins, Kamala Harris has an unexpected ally. [00:00:04] That's the title of the piece. [00:00:06] So, I want you to listen so you'll understand how the never-Trump conservative mind works. [00:00:14] So, he is speaking about how he will vote for Kamala Harris. [00:00:20] And I read to you excerpts from the banter between the two of them, published in the New York Times. [00:00:28] Brett Stevens, kicking and screaming, I'll cast my ballot for Harris. [00:00:35] I really would rather have just sat out Election Day, but January 6th and election denialism are unforgivable. [00:00:45] And as my friend Richard North Patterson likes to say, Donald Trump is literally bleeping crazy. [00:00:55] Did you happen to see this? [00:00:58] Yeah, so this is fascinating. [00:01:00] So why is this otherwise conservative and the only one really? [00:01:08] Well, Ross Douthat is conservative too. [00:01:11] Of their 50 columnists, there are two that lean conservative. [00:01:16] So why is he going to vote for Kamala Harris? [00:01:20] Which is very sad to me because I respect Brett Stephens. [00:01:25] It's very sad. [00:01:27] But it gives you an insight into the mindset. [00:01:29] So two unforgivable sins. [00:01:33] Denialism, which is really fascinating because what he did, Brett Stevens, is adopt the left-wing rhetoric. [00:01:41] The left always has an ism. [00:01:46] It's like climate denialism. [00:01:50] It's like a doctrine. [00:01:52] If I don't agree with you, you have a doctrine. [00:01:58] So, the mere statement that I, Donald Trump, don't believe it was a fair election in 2020, that invalidates him. [00:02:14] Hillary Clinton said that her defeat was not valid, but that apparently doesn't matter to people on the left. [00:02:27] I don't quite understand why you are disqualified no matter what the Democrats put up, no matter what type of candidate. [00:02:42] Donald Trump is disqualified because he doesn't believe that he lost the last election. [00:02:47] The whole Russia hoax was denialism. [00:02:49] The Russia hoax was denialism? [00:02:52] Is that what you're saying? [00:02:54] Well, on whose part? [00:02:55] I don't quite follow. [00:02:56] The Democrats. [00:02:57] They created it. [00:02:58] Oh, well, yeah, all right. [00:02:59] So, yeah, so they, that was a, his newspaper led the way in lying about the Russia hoax. [00:03:13] It is not clear to me why Brett Stevens feels this way. [00:03:18] He knows how bad Kamala Harris is. [00:03:24] But he's going to vote for her anyway. [00:03:26] Because of January 6th. [00:03:28] What is Donald Trump's role in January 6th when he said, go peacefully? [00:03:36] And was anything done after January 6th? [00:03:42] Which was not an insurrection, by the way. [00:03:44] It's a lie of the grandiosus proportions to argue it was an insurrection. [00:03:50] You're telling me that these people... [00:03:53] These unarmed people, 90% of whom, 95% of whom walked in peacefully, when the doors were open for them from inside, they were trying to overthrow the American government? [00:04:08] Isn't that a lie? [00:04:11] Like Trump said, there are fine people on both sides. [00:04:14] They're all lies. [00:04:16] But anyway, this is enough for Brett Stephens not to vote for Donald Trump. [00:04:23] January 6th and election denialism. [00:04:32] So he continues. [00:04:35] It's a 99.999% vote against Trump and 0.0001% vote for Harris. [00:04:51] I'm reading you this so you'll understand the never-Trump mind. [00:04:57] I know Harris will ruin my country, but I can't vote for Donald Trump. === Voting For Kamala Harris (04:18) === [00:05:04] That's what he's saying. [00:05:08] So her response, Gail Collins, the left-wing of the two, the leftist of the two. [00:05:19] And to bolster the argument, how about a short list of the things that bother you most about your new choice for President of the United States? [00:05:28] Okay, so here is his response. [00:05:30] Ready? [00:05:31] And he's going to vote. [00:05:32] Despite what he's about to say, he will vote for Kamala Harris. [00:05:37] If the GOP had nominated Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, or Doug Burgum, I'd be voting Republican. [00:05:45] Probably even Tim Scott. [00:05:47] That's how reluctant I was to vote for her. [00:05:52] So he would vote for any Republican except Donald Trump. [00:05:58] I fear that Harris is every bit as vacuous behind the scenes as she seems to be on the public stage. [00:06:06] I fear she will be tested early by a foreign adversary and stumble badly, whether it's in stopping Iran from building a nuclear weapon, or China from blockading Taiwan or Russia from seizing a portion of a Baltic country. [00:06:22] I fear she will capitulate too easily to her party's left flank, especially when it comes to identity politics, economic policy, or polarizing cultural issues. [00:06:34] I fear she'll have no domestic policy ideas that don't involve mindlessly expanding the role of government. [00:06:41] I fear she'll surround herself with mediocre advisors like her embarrassingly bad Veep pick. [00:06:49] I fear she won't muster the political will to curb mass migration. [00:06:55] That's all? [00:06:58] That's the only objections he has to her? [00:07:00] Yeah, I knew it would blow your mind. [00:07:03] It's breathtaking. [00:07:04] It is breathtaking. [00:07:05] He is certain she will be a calamity for Western civilization, and he will vote for her. [00:07:12] That is why it is called Trump derangement syndrome. [00:07:16] It is. [00:07:19] When one abandons rational, moral thought on one issue, it is a syndrome. [00:07:29] It is. [00:07:30] It's correct. [00:07:30] It's a syndrome. [00:07:31] A man I respect, Brett Stephens. [00:07:37] I mean, this is a horror list. [00:07:38] The world will enter chaos if Kamala Harris wins and he's voting for her. [00:07:47] Yeah. [00:07:49] By the way, he does not have a list of equally awful things that will happen if Donald Trump is elected. [00:07:57] He just thinks he's nuts. [00:07:59] He's denialism. [00:08:00] My two reasons, January 6th and election denialism. [00:08:09] So here's the summary of Trump Derangement Syndrome. [00:08:12] Ready? [00:08:13] The next line. [00:08:14] I'd rather take my chances with a president whose competence I doubt and whose policies I dislike than one whose character I detest. [00:08:28] That's it. [00:08:29] I will take policies I know will hurt America and the world. [00:08:32] I know it. [00:08:35] The bad actors on Earth, China, Iran, Russia, will be emboldened by a Kamala Harris victory, but I hate Donald Trump's character. [00:08:44] That is a syndrome. [00:08:46] That is not rational. [00:08:48] It is not moral. [00:08:52] That's all that matters. [00:08:54] That's why I've said this is a form, and again, I am not just saying this. [00:08:59] I have great respect for Brett Stephens. [00:09:02] But this is a narcissistic view. [00:09:06] I don't like Trump's character, therefore screw America and screw the world. [00:09:13] That's what the never-Trumper is saying. [00:09:18] He knows how bad Kamala Harris is.
