Dennis Prager Show - The Left Is Based On Lies Aired: 2024-05-13 Duration: 09:58 === People Believe What They Want To (09:52) === [00:00:00] It's one of the reasons, there are so many reasons, Mao's China, Stalin's Soviet Union, Pol Pot's Cambodia, the staggering amount of torture of human beings in almost every society, that I have such an anger. [00:00:20] You would think I wouldn't be angry about people, adults, who believe that human nature is basically good. [00:00:30] And I think, are you aware of what has happened? [00:00:35] And some are, and they still say that because they want to believe it. [00:00:48] I'm thinking not Now I'm thinking aloud. [00:00:50] I was thinking quietly about writing something brief called Lessons from a Life Lived. [00:00:59] One of the big lessons is most people believe what they want to believe. [00:01:05] They don't ask, is it true? [00:01:08] They ask, really, what do I want to believe? [00:01:12] For some reason, people want to believe that people are basically good. [00:01:16] A lot of people want to believe that. [00:01:19] I have no wants in this matter. [00:01:24] I only want to know what is true. [00:01:28] Because if I want to believe something that isn't true, I'm actually making the human condition worse. [00:01:35] Is that not obvious? [00:01:39] So why would you want to believe something? [00:01:42] Why would that even be an operative element? [00:01:45] You want to believe it? [00:01:51] I visited China a number of occasions. [00:01:56] I want to believe I speak Chinese. [00:01:58] Now, if I said that to you, you'd think, what are you, out of your mind? [00:02:01] You don't speak Chinese. [00:02:03] Oh, but I want to believe that I speak Chinese. [00:02:07] Okay, but if you want to believe it, and you're in rural China in need of medicine, you might die, because you wouldn't know how to say, I need medicine. [00:02:22] You want to believe people are basically good? [00:02:25] First of all, I don't even know why do people want to believe that? [00:02:30] What comfort does it give you? [00:02:32] I would think it would make you more miserable if people are basically good and there's all this horrible, horrible behavior. [00:02:43] People are basically good, but in every society in history there's been slavery? [00:02:51] And sometimes the conditions, like everything else, there are gradations of evil. [00:02:58] At its best, it's evil, but at its worst, it's horrific. [00:03:03] It's sadism. [00:03:04] It's legal sadism. [00:03:13] People are basically good, but people enjoyed watching cats get burned alive this year. [00:03:18] This was a... [00:03:20] A book on medieval Europe that I was reading. [00:03:24] And just in passing, they mentioned how the royalty would watch cats burned alive and they would just laugh themselves silly while munching on some wonderful meal. [00:03:39] That people are basically good. [00:03:45] Back to the origins. [00:03:48] Yesterday was Holocaust Memorial Day. [00:03:51] If you read what has happened, were these people aberrations? [00:03:58] Now, I don't believe people are basically evil, because if we were basically evil, we couldn't be good. [00:04:04] We wouldn't want to be good. [00:04:06] I think we can do either. [00:04:11] We have free will. [00:04:15] But basically good is ridiculous. [00:04:17] How often did you tell your child, say thank you? [00:04:21] If we were basically good, you'd only have to tell your child once, twice, three times. [00:04:28] And then your child would realize, oh, of course, it's the right thing to do to express gratitude. [00:04:34] But did your child say that? [00:04:39] Why did you have to say say thank you a thousand times? [00:04:42] Very possibly more than a thousand. [00:04:45] If we're basically good. [00:04:49] But as I said, people believe what they want to believe. [00:04:53] Truth is everything. [00:04:57] It is hard to imagine that a society rooted just in truth will be a bad society. [00:05:05] It really is. [00:05:06] It's hard to believe. [00:05:08] I can't imagine it. [00:05:11] There are many things that are needed to produce good people in a good society, but that's the pillar, truth. [00:05:21] And the left is the world of the lie. [00:05:25] Because you don't ask, is it true? [00:05:28] Like Israel's committing genocide. [00:05:29] That's the contemporary example. [00:05:32] America's systemically racist. [00:05:35] Men give birth. [00:05:42] The enormity of the lies. [00:05:44] It's fair for a man to compete against women. [00:05:46] Where did this just happen? [00:05:48] just happy this issue arose well in some in some school or town and the it eludes me for the moment but I was amazed at how many people were angry At this public official who said that it's not right for men to compete against women just because they say they're a woman. [00:06:19] You're a hater, transphobic. [00:06:23] Those, the very notions... [00:06:25] You see, they don't say you're not telling the truth. [00:06:29] They say you're a hater. [00:06:30] They say you're transphobic. [00:06:33] But of course it's the truth. [00:06:38] It's not fair if a man competes against women. [00:06:43] It's irrelevant that he says he's a woman. [00:06:45] Irrelevant. [00:06:46] Truth. [00:06:55] The motto of Harvard is truth. [00:06:58] Veritas. [00:06:59] There was a time in American history when it was realized truth was everything! [00:07:08] That's why that's a one-word motto. [00:07:12] And who has, one of the other colleges has Lux A Veritas. [00:07:19] Is it Light and Truth? [00:07:21] Are you aware of that? [00:07:23] Take a look. [00:07:24] Lux, L-U-X, A-E-T, Veritas. [00:07:30] I think it's another Ivy League college that has that. [00:07:36] There was a pursuit of truth. [00:07:40] Look, slavery was built on a lie. [00:07:44] The lie that black human beings are inferior. [00:07:49] Yale. [00:07:49] Yale, yeah, I thought so. [00:07:52] And, of course, Yale was the one with the Hebrew, from the Hebrew Bible. [00:07:58] The breastplate of the high priest. [00:08:01] Can you imagine that? [00:08:04] Other than a few religious Jewish students at the college, does anybody at Yale know what their insignia is about? [00:08:12] I'm amazed that they haven't objected to it. [00:08:14] Just amazed. [00:08:15] The whole Holocaust was based on the lie. [00:08:27] Okay. [00:08:31] The whole anti-Israel thing today is based on a lie. [00:08:35] Israel's an apartheid state. [00:08:37] It's just a lie. [00:08:42] 2 million Palestinian Arabs live in Israel. [00:08:46] Full citizens. [00:08:48] Did blacks live as full citizens in South Africa? [00:08:54] We have a video on that, too, from a black South African member of the South African parliament. [00:09:01] He went to Israel to see, is there truth to the charge that Israel's an apartheid state? [00:09:06] He lived under apartheid. [00:09:07] He would know. [00:09:09] And he came back and said there's a big lie. [00:09:11] For how many years did the New York Times and Washington Post and CNN and NPR lie about Russian collusion with the Trump campaign? [00:09:28] 51 members of the... [00:09:30] The intelligence community signed a letter saying that the Hunter Biden laptop was probably Russian disinformation a month before the 2020 national election. === What Is True First (00:20) === [00:09:47] They asked, how do we make it easier for Biden to win? [00:09:51] They didn't ask what is true. [00:09:53] What is true has to be the first question before every other thing.
