I am broadcasting from Nashville, Tennessee, where there are more Californians than in Los Angeles.
That was a joke.
But it is a joke that makes a point.
The number of people who have moved to Nashville from California, and I presume from other states that have disdain for liberty, is quite remarkable.
It is really a hub now of intellectual activity.

I've always loved Nashville.

I don't know if I ever told this story.
I was 21 years old, and I had already begun lecturing because of my trip to the Soviet Union.
And work with dissidents and Jews in the Soviet Union.
Came back to the United States.
I was at the Russian Institute at Columbia University, so places booked me to speak about what it was like in the Soviet Union and what it's like for Jews in the Soviet Union and for anyone who wanted to leave and have freedom.

I'd grown up in New York City.
Obviously, I had been...
I studied that whole year in England.
I went to North Africa for a few weeks during Christmas vacation, as it was then called and should be called to this day.
Went to the Soviet Union, came back to the United States.
When you grow up in New York, you have the belief that New York is the center of the world.
It's a given.
It's not even necessary to say It's just like a given.
Sort of like, I guess, in Idaho we produce potatoes.
It's a given.
People don't have to talk about it a lot.
So my first lecture outside of the Northeast, outside of the New York City area, was in Nashville, Tennessee.
I was very excited to go.
And I had a New Yorker's view of the South.
Maybe a lot of sweet people there, but, you know, they're not with it.
They're not sophisticated like us New Yorkers, etc., etc.
I came to a city, saw a beautiful city, beautiful homes, beautiful people who were at least as sophisticated, in fact, in my opinion, more so than most of the people I had known in New York.
And then I realized I had been sort of bluffed my whole life.
It's not the center of the world.
The people there are not worldly.
New Yorkers thought of themselves as the worldliest people, the most cosmopolitan people.
It turns out that they were far more...

What's the opposite of worldly?
Insular.
Insular, yes.
Insular.
Perfect.

That's right.
Of course, not every New Yorker, but in general.
And Nashville is when I realized, oh my God, I can have nice people, courteous people, and beautiful places to live.
And I didn't have any money, just beautiful.
I can't say that New York City is beautiful.
And Nashville did it.
Nashville awakened me, took a day to the understanding that there are great places in this country.
It isn't flyover country.
It's a terrific country.
So, anyway, that is why I am here.
And another story that reveals the...
The cheating that is enabled by having trans women compete against biological women.
Just came out, a story in Daily Mail.
Trans woman 29 beats girl 13 to first place in women's skateboarding.
A 29-year-old trans woman beat a 13-year-old girl to win first place in a women's skateboarding competition in New York.
Ricky Trez.
Who was born male, but who now identifies as a woman, won the Border Open, or Board Open.
They have a lot of typos in Daily Mail.
A street skateboarding contest that's open to all participants at all skill levels, which is split into male and female contests.
Trez, who hails from Los Angeles, won the women's title on a prize of $500, while 13-year-old Shilo Katori of Tampa, Florida, Came in second, taking home $250.
Out of the six competitors, four were under the age of 17, including a 10-year-old girl who came in fifth.
The news appeared to irk fellow skateboarder Taylor Silverman, who, as a woman, revealed how she has come in second place several times in recent competitions, having been beaten by trans women.
Yeah.
Is that clear?
So this female skateboarder, Taylor Silverman, she's come in second several times being beaten by biological males who are cheats.
Here is a great test of the moral compass of anyone in your life.
Do you consider a trans woman a biological man?
Competing against females and winning, cheating.
That's it.
That's it.
Just ask that question.
If they say, no, it's not cheating, it's fair.
There is no reason for further dialogue.
If it's a relative, just be nice.
Move the discussion on to how Uncle Fred is doing.
That's it.
You have nothing in common.
If you can't call a man who says he's a woman, who wins against girls, a cheat, you have a broken moral compass.
There's little hope for you in the moral realm, and you may be a very nice and sweet person.
There are sweet people with broken moral compasses.
These are the liberals who vote for the Democrats.
There are hundreds, a hundred million of them in the country.
But this is so obvious.
I have been in three different contests with trans women, two of whom, two of which I placed second, Silverman wrote in an Instagram post.
She, this is a born woman, She's what they call cisgender.
She actually identifies with her biological sex.
Told how in one competition organized by Red Bull, the transgender winner won thousands of dollars.
This totaled $5,000 of the prize money meant for female athletes, Silverman noted.
I'll tell you, if Silverman put up a GoFundMe page, I would send money.
Since that time, she has used her social media presence to campaign for the preservation of women's athletics by calling for competitions to revert to women competing against other biological women and men competing against biological men.
I reached out to Red Bull and was ignored.
That's perfect.
Is there a company that promotes decency in this, I mean just simple ethical decency, in this country?
Yes, small companies.
Is there a big company?
I am sick of being bullied into silence.
What happened was unfair, and at the time I was too uncomfortable to speak up.
I understand that in today's society, even some women think this is acceptable.
But I believe in doing the right thing, even if it's not the popular thing.
I now realize it's really important to me to speak up, and I'd like to schedule a time to talk.

So I was talking to you about the issue of the transgender cheats.
That's all they are, these men who compete against women.
They have no problem.
If they want to identify as a woman, it's their business.
It is my business whether they're cheating in winning competitions.
The whole notion of women's sports is rendered absurd.
If men who say that they're women can compete against them.
It's rare in life that I think one question can tell you so much about a person.
I mean, I'll give you an example.
I'm very pro-capital punishment.
I've made arguments in print and on radio and in speeches many times.
I will do it again, but not today.
But I don't make a whole bunch of assessments about a person who differs with me on capital punishment.
I differ with them, we make our arguments, and then we can have a coffee.
But if you deny that women are being cheated, When a biological male competes against them, there are so many bad things that position says about you that the issue is far larger than just the issue of the men who identify as women cheating.
There's a combination of moral incompetence on your part and cowardice.
In some cases, it's both.
In some cases, it's more one than the other.
People are afraid to take on the woke, and so they simply adopt it.
Now, here is the interesting, truly interesting news.
It's really new to me.
And it concerns this issue, which may turn out...
To be a very difficult one for the left to sustain.
I read an 11,000-word piece in the New York Times for this show.
It was just printed two weeks ago.
The battle over gender therapy.
Since the issue is of great concern to me, I decided to to read it and It was informative It was it was not a propaganda piece as such even though the New York Times wrote it or published it and It was it was more pro Intervention with
kids, you know, surgeries and hormone treatments than against it, but it described to a certain extent both sides, only a certain extent.
But that's not my point at all.
So many New York Times readers apparently read the piece despite its length, and I would like to read to you some of the comments.
I went to the comments.
Many of you don't read comments on pieces.
I do, almost always, if it's a contentious piece or a piece on a contentious subject.
Remember, in order to comment at the New York Times, you have to be a subscriber to the New York Times.
So overwhelmingly, these are people left.
Or liberal who are writing in.

When I ask a person that I meet, are you married?
I have no problem in asking that of anybody.
And I will often get the answer, well, I have a significant other or I have a partner or boyfriend.
And how long?
Oh, eight years.
So, I'm always amazed at that, to be honest.
Do you both want it that way?
Look, if both have no belief that there is significance to getting married, then obviously there's not an issue, at least vis-a-vis the subject I'm raising today.
There's still an issue, and that is, should people get married even if they are committed to one another outside of the marital bond?
And I think...
The answer is absolutely yes, but that's not my subject.
My subject is, if one of you, and it's usually the female, if one of you does want to get married, does giving an ultimatum sound like a good idea to you?
That's my question.
That's the subject of this hour.
You love him, he loves you.
He doesn't believe in marriage.
You do.
Do you say, look, honey, I'm giving you the best years of my life because I love you and I love you so much I want to get married.
But if you don't want to get married, I have to say, it does say something to me about how committed you are to me.
And...
I would rather be your wife than your significant other.
I would rather be your wife than your girlfriend.
I would rather be your wife than your partner.
So have you tried that?
And did it work?
Especially if you said, so look.
Once you think about it, and if you decide...
That you're still not going to marry me.
I'm just going to have to try to find someone who will marry me.

So if it's just a piece of paper, I in general believe, that's my general theory about marriage.
In general, you do what is the one who thinks it's more important wants.

I'm talking about it in normal situations.
He wants X, she wants Y. But she wants Y much more than he wants X. Do Y! Or he wants Y a lot more than she wants X. Do Y! I have applied that to the sexual arena in marriage.
But that's not the subject for today.
If it means a great deal to one of you, and it's no great price for the other, I don't know why the other wouldn't do it.

Dennis, in 1991, I'd been with a woman for seven years.
I was 27 years old.
I loved her to death, had a great time with her, and after seven years, she gave me an ultimatum.
Now, she knew that I didn't plan on marrying until I was 30, but she gave me that ultimatum.
The day she gave it to me, the following day, I had to go out of town for work for two weeks.
I told her I'd think about it.
Well, she didn't like that response.
And for two weeks, I thought about it, and after two weeks, I told her I'm going to be a father.
I'm going to be a family man.
You know, when I get married when I'm 30, and I always envisioned you to be that person, but now that I thought about it, you're never going to slow down.
You're going to keep doing what you do now.
You're going to be ripping and running, and you're never going to be the mother of my children, so I guess we should just end this.
And tragically, we broke up, and it wasn't pretty.
It took her four months to actually convince herself to move out because there was no bad.
You broke up.
Well, you broke up.
Tragically.
I'm sorry, you're breaking up there.
So it took her four months to move out, and then I lost you.
Right.
It took her four months to move out, and it was just tragic.
You know, I really loved the woman, but by giving me an ultimatum, it made me think about it.

And I thought about it.
I said, look, I know I want to be a family man.
I want to have kids.
And I didn't see her being a part of my children.
In retrospect, you think you did the right thing?

The funny thing was, after she moved out, she came back one day, and to be honest, she seduced me.
She became the mother of my oldest child, unbeknownst to me, and I just met that child five years ago.
That child was 29 years old.
She got pregnant when she came back that one time, and then she left my life, and then...
For whatever reason, she never shared with me that the child was born.
The child ultimately just contacted me five years ago, and I'm now establishing a relationship with her.
And that child, of course, is now bringing me my second grandchild this week sometime.

I have so many questions, but I want to take more calls.
The subject is giving an ultimatum if you've been seeing somebody for many years, and one of you wants to get married, usually the female, and do ultimatums work.
In his case, he says it didn't work.
He was 27. They were together eight years.
He really loved her.
And she said, if we don't get married, then I'm leaving.
And he decided not to get married to her because he said he wants to be a married man and a father and have a family, but only when he reaches 30. One of the questions I would ask him is, what the hell is magic about 30?
You've been eight years together at 27. She wants to get married, and you have this, what I think, completely irrational Commitment to the age of 30. What if it were 29?
So I don't, I didn't understand that.
And I didn't understand how she seduced him.
That I do understand, but I don't understand how she seduced him.
Had a baby with him.
And didn't tell him.

Telling somebody what you want, and they can say what they want, and if it's not on the same page, then you move on.

And finally, it occurred to me, I was approaching 40. He was just past 40. Neither one of us had married.
I didn't know if we would have children.
And finally, I said, you know what?
I think I'm happier as your girlfriend than I've ever been in the past.
And so, as long as we are on the same page and working toward marriage...
I want to remain your girlfriend.
And he proposed, and we are coming up on eight years of marriage.
And the lesson to be learned, in your opinion, is?
Be flexible.
Be respectful of your partner's resistance.
His answer was to me that all the girls he had dated had always been so pushy and putting themselves first that he wanted to make sure that he was not going to commit to a relationship that he would have to eternally sacrifice.
And when I gave the olive branch, it proved to him that I was the one.
Well, it just shows that not all rules are universally applicable.

That was about two years in, and we got married.

What would you have said if it was five years?

So I would have to say once you're financially secure and she has worked, I'm kind of helping with that.

From the College Fix, George Washington University will not cancel Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
The university will neither terminate Justice Thomas' employment nor cancel his class in response to his legal opinions.
George Washington University Provost Christopher Bracey and Georgetown Law School Dean Dana Bowen Matthew stated in an email to the campus community.
Oh, they should not use.

It doesn't matter.

The announcement came in response to a student-led petition calling for Thomas to be fired.

Yeshiva University is now obligated to host LGBTQ plus club on campus.
So Yeshiva University is an Orthodox Jewish institution, and Orthodox Judaism, traditional Judaism, has always affirmed the male-female ideal.
It's just, it's part, it is baked in to the Torah and to Judaism.
Why is it obligated to violate its religious principles when religious principles are supposedly honored in our society?
This is one of the most obvious and important lessons you can learn or realize about society.

I'm reading to you a story which tells you everything you need to know about the issue of government and the price people pay for taking money from the state.
Yeshiva University is an Orthodox Jewish institution in New York City, and the New York County Supreme Court ruled that it must grant recognition despite its Torah-based, its motto is Torah Umadah, Torah and Science, is required to grant recognition to its LGBTQ plus club.
The YU, Yeshiva University Pride Alliance.
Judge Lynn Kotler ruled on Tuesday that YU, as a non-religious organization, is subject to the New York City Human Rights Law.
Directed it to immediately grant Plaintiff YU Pride Alliance the full equal accommodations, advantages, facilities, and privileges afforded to all other student groups at Yeshiva University.
In the decision, the judge determined that Yeshiva University is not a religious corporation and therefore cannot ban a certain group because of its Jewish faith.
Okay, so this, anyway, why you said: The court's ruling violates the religious liberty upon which this country was founded.
The decision permits courts to interfere in the internal affairs of religious schools, hospitals, and other charitable organizations.
Any ruling that yeshiva is not religious is obviously wrong.

In 2020, Yeshiva University wrote a paper titled Fostering an Inclusive Community on the Issue of LGBTQ People and Its Institution.
Quote, Yeshiva University is wholly committed to and guided by halakha, Jewish law, and Torah values.
These direct our every effort in establishing a caring campus community that is supportive of all its members.
But it doesn't mean that we have to recognize an LGBTQ group.
While we love and care for our students who are all, each and every one, created in God's image, we firmly disagree with today's ruling and will immediately appeal the decision.

"I'm not a good one, I'm not a good one." Taking free things from the government inevitably means must happen.
There is no possible way it won't happen.
You will be controlled in some way by the state if you take its money.
And that is the biggest reason the left wants you to take money from the government.
Many, even on the left, believe sincerely.
We're just helping people.
We're making sure that schools cannot discriminate against anybody for any reason by making sure that they If they take money from us, they will have to have an LGBTQ association.
They will have to have a non-gendered bathroom.
Whatever it might be.
Or even allow transgender females, that is biological males who identify as female, to compete in women's sports.
You take our money, you follow our rules.
It is true in every country on Earth.
The more the state gives you, the more it takes from you.
The human being does not ache to be independent.
The human being does not ache to be free.
The human being aches to be taken care of.
You know who else or who among human beings most aches to be taken care of?
Children.
There is an infantile element to leftism, to Marxism, to progressivism.
It is a completely infantile desire.
I want to remain a child.
That's why there are safe spaces at colleges.
You hurt my feelings.
