We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
We'll be right back.
I'm Dennis Prager.
Wherever you are on Earth, hello to you.
Most of you are in the United States of America, but there are listeners all over the world.
Which, by the way, I think is appropriate because what I have to say is not just for Americans.
I have never believed that what I believe in is confined to any one group.
Just as great music is universal, most of them were Germans or Austrians.
However, you don't have to be German or Austrian to appreciate Beethoven or Mozart, etc., etc.
Hi, everybody.
I'm Dennis Prager.
Today is Election-slash-Recall Day in California.
I keep marveling at the data that I read, so I want to confirm this with the living martyr.
Did the Newsom should stay as governor people really spend 70 to 90 million dollars?
Yeah.
And Larry Elder spent what?
About 12 million?
Yeah.
It is impossible to fully communicate the upside-down world in which we live, where...
It's personified by men give birth by not believing that a child is born male or female.
The opposite of reality is stated.
Larry Elder comes from a very poor background in a poor area of Los Angeles.
Fathers worked as a janitor for many years.
He's black.
And Gavin Newsom, born into wealth, helped by the wealthy, supported by the wealthy, that's the man of the poor.
That's the man for diversity.
He actually said yesterday that Larry Elder opposes diversity.
By that, of course, every leftist means racial diversity.
It's the only diversity they care about.
They don't care about ideological diversity.
And Larry's black.
So Larry becoming potentially the first black governor of California, that does not serve the interests of diversity.
Now, I don't give a damn about diversity.
Okay, let me make that clear.
But they do.
So this is truly a race between the status quo dominance of a white male versus the first-time possibility of a diversification racially of the Office of Governor of California.
And Larry is called the anti-diversity candidate.
The woman, Guerrero or Guerrero?
Which is it?
Guerrero.
What's her first name?
Jean Guerrero at the Los Angeles Times.
Sean, you could have done that a little faster.
I'm sorry, the delay was unraveling to me.
Jean Guerrero of the Los Angeles Times, which has become a rag sheet, and I say it with no joy.
Because if the newspapers of our country are truly rag sheets, and they are, this is a terrible development in the country.
There is no joy in me in saying this.
I used to write for the LA Times regularly.
They wouldn't publish me now if I paid them.
I can't pay them, so I don't know what the second clause would be.
They actually had, for years, a left...
And right column on the opinion page, op-ed page, as it's called, and I was often the one on the right column.
There's no such thing today at the LA Times.
Instead, you have haters and stupid people like Gene Guerrero.
I mean, it's just stupid to say that Larry, it's bigoted, it's evil.
To say that Larry Elder is the black face of white supremacy.
I would, in fact, like to put her on a lie detector test.
Does she believe that?
So what do you think?
I think she'd pass.
This is a new development in my life.
I never thought the left believed their lies.
But I think that they do now.
When you say it enough, men give birth, men give birth, men give birth, men give birth, men menstruate, men menstruate, men menstruate, women don't give birth, birthing people give birth, birthing people give birth.
Gender is a choice. Gender is a choice. Gender is a choice.
There's an existential threat to humanity from global warming.
Existential threat to humanity.
Existential threat, existential threat, existential threat.
People who are vaccinated are not protected against the unvaccinated.
People who are vaccinated are unprotected against the unvaccinated.
People who are vaccinated are unprotected against the vaccinated.
All of these are beyond lies.
They enter another realm.
I don't know what the realm would be.
Absurd doesn't even come close.
If you took the vaccine, why do you care if the next guy doesn't?
Isn't that an admission?
It doesn't work?
Or the next one.
Ivermectin is for horses.
It's a horse warmer.
Ivermectin is a horse warmer.
D-wormer?
Sorry.
Ivermectin is a horse D-wormer.
Okay.
It's also an E-wormer and an F-wormer.
Yes, like the Delta variant.
There are variants of worming.
You guys didn't know that.
Missed my book on deworming horses.
It's a horse dewormer.
Howard Stern attacked Joe Rogan.
Did you see that?
Joe Rogan took ivermectin, got better, and he's telling Joe Rogan that he's an idiot because it's a horse dewormer.
Right?
Is that astonishing?
This is the world in which we live.
Yes, indeed.
Well, and... Howard Stern is correcting a man...
You know what it proves?
Howard Stern believes every piece of crap CNN reports.
It's a giveaway.
Howard Stern doesn't understand that whatever people thought of him before, at least half the country knows.
That he doesn't think clearly.
You know how many decades it's been used to save people?
Do you know how safe it is?
I'm asking Howard Stern.
You don't know anything about it, so why didn't you shut up?
Because you believe the New York Times and CNN. Did you know that the man who discovered ivermectin for people got a Nobel Prize in medicine for doing so just a few years ago?
What we have to deal with.
Get your news from Howard Stern.
It's...
I don't know if you can survive the vast number of lies.
So today is the recall in California, and it will shock the nation if it is recalled.
Not shock in that they'll be surprised.
Shock because it's a wake-up call.
People are sick of being controlled, but I don't think they are.
Half the country would like to control the other half, and is fine with being controlled themselves.
Do you know that a lot of people actually have a sense of security when the government tells them that they can't do things?
It's hard for those of us who love freedom to believe that, but it is true.
This is just the beginning.
You think that the government saying you shall be fired if you don't take a vaccine?
Is there anybody listening who believes this is the end of the mandates?
Once the power hungry taste power, they want more power.
That is their meaning in life.
But he has been able to reach the minority of voters in the country.
Tesla was a genius.

*music* What?
No sheep.
Hello, my friends.
Dennis Prager here.
Yes, yes, yes.
Bill in Martinez, California.
Hello.
It's me.
Yeah, Bill.
Hello.
Yep, yep.
Yep.
Yep.
Can you hear me?
Yep.
Yep.
All right, my question is, why did Larry Elder, being an African-American man, want reparations for slave owners?
His reasoning was that Britain did it, and that averted a civil war.
He has no love for slave owners.
Nobody quoted the second part of his argument, that it might have prevented a civil war had slave owners been told, hey, listen, we're freeing the slaves, but you'll get money because we don't want a civil war.
I don't know if he's right.
Well, why they didn't give it to the black people?
They're the ones who were enslaved.
You're 100% right.
If you want to go back to Britain...
You're right.
You're right.
But one has nothing to do...
Yeah, so the statement is, for him to make a statement like that, that's totally ridiculous, especially being an African American.
Okay, so you didn't hear my argument.
It's not a ridiculous argument.
It is ridiculous.
Had slave owners been given reparations and slaves not, that would have been ridiculous.
That was not what Larry Elder argued.
It's very difficult to argue with anger.
And so I don't know what to say.
I had never heard the argument.
If it's true, Britain averted a civil war, thanks to reparations to owners, then it was worth it.
The largest number of Americans died in the Civil War, not only of any war, but of all the wars combined later, including World War II. It would have been a nice thing not to have had a civil war in the country and liberated the slaves at the same time.
The unfairness to slaves after the Civil War is a terrible blot in American history.
Larry never said that slaves should not have been given reparations.
Okay.
I'm glad you called, but I don't know if you heard me.
It's tough to say.
Okay, there's a piece in the Wall Street Journal worthy of bringing to your attention.
By William McGurn, Gavin Newsom's White Privilege.
If the polls going into today's recall election in California hold up, Gavin Newsom will keep his job as governor, but if he does, no one should ever again take seriously progressive complaints about white privilege.
Because if white privilege is a thing, Mr. Newsome is drenched in it.
Mr. Newsome's father was a well-connected state judge who once managed one of the trusts for the family of oil magnate J. Paul Getty.
Did you know that?
Hmm?
Newsome's father?
As for his son, the Los Angeles Times says, quote, a coterie of San Francisco's wealthiest families has backed him at every step of his rise.
This privilege is reflected in the $70 million Mr. Newsome raised to fight the recall, more than five times the $13 million raised by his leading challenger, Republican Larry Elder.
Joel Kotkin, a fellow in urban studies at Chapman University, California has become the epicenter of neo-feudalism, and Newsome symbolizes this new autocracy.
The irony is that Elder is attacked as the candidate of the rich and the greedy by this new elite, high-tech teachers' unions, the media, and some of the state's wealthiest citizens.
COVID has put this privilege in stark relief, while many of California's public schools remain closed.
Mr. Newsom's own children were at a private school that offered in-person learning.
Perhaps the governor's most Marie Antoinette moment came when he was caught flouting his own guidelines by dining out with a group of lobbyists at the French Laundry, where the New York Times reports dinner for two costs more than many people earn in a week.
I want to comment on the French Laundry and of the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.
Getting her hair done.
Remember that video in the middle of the lockdown?
You can't go to any small business there to be locked down.
She went.
He went to a restaurant, no masks, with friends.
The reason is not just that they're hypocrites.
They give hypocrisy a bad name.
They're beyond hypocrites.
They're liars and phonies.
But the biggest reason that it is important is not to show what phonies Pelosi and Newsom are.
It is to show that they don't believe a damn thing about the masks or the lockdowns.
They don't believe in them.
If they did, they thought, wouldn't they think that they will catch COVID and drop dead?
They crushed the businesses of this state.
While attending a business.
Get it?
The left is despicable.
You should wake up.
That should be your alarm clock.
The left is despicable.
It is purely destructive.
I don't know if America will survive the left.
No one knows.
I fight every day that it does, but that is an existential threat.
Leftism.
It has no moral compass.
It is always pointing in the wrong direction.
It is broken.
Is there one small business owner or the member of a family of a small business owner or the friend of a small business owner in California who will not vote for the recall?
So...
The sheep will vote for the recall.
Oh, he's a Republican, Larry Elder.
Their great argument, aside from white supremacy, is he's a clone of Donald Trump.
What does that even mean?
That's what they will use with every single Republican who runs.
Now you know what you will see in, let's see, 2024?
In the elections then?
No, 2022 for sure.
Well, that's Congress, yeah.
Yeah, but they'll say the same.
They'll say the same.
Every Republican.
As a Trump clone, what does that mean?
If I ran, they would call me a Trump clone.
I opposed him during the primaries, but I'm a Trump clone.
I never met the man, but I'm a Trump clone.
If you believe America is a decent place, and you believe that telling children that America is systemically racist, and you will choose your gender, Are both lies and evil?
Then you're a Trump clone.
They don't debate you, but they have a name.
Trump Clone.

And the Congress is going to get to the bottom of what was, in retrospect, probably one of the worst mistakes of the last three months, which is abandoning our secure airbase with a significant perimeter to protect against the exact kind of suicide bombing that claimed 13 American lives.
Now, I know an individual in General Milley's circle.
And I am told exactly what you just said.
They would not lift the cap on the troops.
But my advice to this individual was tell everyone you can to get a story straight, a timeline down, and every supporting document in one binder so that you do not have to change your story on timing or detail even once or you'll have Benghazi on your hands.
And I believe that the Pentagon would be well served to over respond rather than under respond at this point.
What's your advice to the Pentagon, Senator, on how to respond to the queries, which will never stop until we have a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute timeline and document supporting a decision tree here?
Well, that sound advice not only to the Pentagon, but to anyone in the administration.
Look, Congress is not just going to move on from this fiasco.
We're going to get to the bottom of what happened.
Then if the Democratic Congress right now won't do it, then we'll get to the bottom of it in early 2023, once Republicans have won back control of the Congress.
Not just the Pentagon, but anyone who is involved in this needs to understand that Congress and the American people are going to insist upon answers, and they need to have those answers ready, and they need to be documented and demonstrated with evidence.
Any kind of shifting explanation or political spin or CYA is going to be exposed.

*Music* Woman wearing a gorilla mask throws an egg at Larry Elder, a white woman, and it's like it didn't happen.
Imagine if a white woman had thrown an egg wearing a gorilla mask at a black Democrat.
It would have been evidence of the rampant white supremacy and racism in the country.
It's all a lie.
I spend most of my life telling you what's a lie.
And I've never lied.
You can't find an example in my 38 years.
So either I'm lying, or the LA Times and New York Times and CNN are lying.
Right?
Either ivermectin is only a horse dewormer, or it's a spectacular drug for human beings.
One of us is wrong, correct?
I put my credibility on the line every single day because I have to answer to God, my conscience, my friends who think well of me and you who think well of me.
New York Times has to answer to nobody except the leftists, the young leftists who work at the paper.
That's all they have to answer to.
The sheep who believe the New York Times.
The best example, I devoted an hour to it.
Comments on a New York Times piece about global warming and how people wrote, I wrote a whole column on it.
It really made an impact on me to show you how they believe what they read in the New York Times.
They truly believe it.
They believe it.
I have more questions about what I believe is divine, the first five books of the Bible, the Torah, than they have of the New York Times.
I said this, this was a good line that I came up with a few weeks ago.
The religious question God more than the secular question secularism and all of their institutions, from Yale to the Times.
To CNN. The unquestioning, unthinking true believers are all on the left.
Not all, I take that back.
There are some people who are religious, unquestioning true believers.
There's no question.
But they are a minority in my experience with religious people.
I visited an ultra-Orthodox Jew Many, many years ago, a bearded, ultra-Orthodox Jew, a friend of mine.
His wife simply died at a wedding at the age of about 29. I'll never forget that.
I visited him during his seven days of mourning.
It's called Shiva, when he's sitting Shiva, sitting seven.
And you know what his comment to me was?
Quoted a Yiddish phrase, man plans, God laughs.
That's a challenging statement to God.
You get more challenging statements from religious people about God and religion than you get in the secular world about secularism and their media.
They are unquestioning, Sheep-like, scary people.
People on the left.
And people who believe the left.
Like, what was it, our friend on the radio?
Am I just cited?
Howard Stern.
Howard Stern.
He really, he knows, he knows nothing about ivermectin.
I'm not sure he could spell it.
But he denounces Joe Rogan.
By the way, I take it every week.
Just for the record, I take it every week.
I do not take it because it is a horse dewormer.
Right?
That is like saying if you eat a hamburger and you periodically give it to a dog, you're eating dog food.
Which is perhaps how...

Some hate-filled outburst at America.
And white.
And she said, on her page, she describes herself as...
Non-binary.
She's they.
And so on.
I think a troubled woman.
And one of the things she wrote in her self-description is, loves all black people.

And she loves white lefties.
They gave her her job.
Everything about the left is a lie.
Everything.
When people believe it, though, it's very, very difficult to undo.
You know who's starting to really perceive that the left is a morally corrupt world?
Bill Maher.
Do you have the latest Bill Maher statement about playing the black national anthem at football games?
To the left a lot these days.
Why?
I'm like, because you're embarrassing me.
That's why I'm going after the left.
In a way you never did before.
Because you're inverting things that I'm not going to give up on being liberal.
This is what these teachers are talking about.
That you're taking children and making them hyper-aware of race in a way they wouldn't otherwise be.
I mean, I saw last night on the football game, Alicia Keys sang Lift Every Voice and Sing, which now I hear is...
Called the Black National Anthem.
Now, maybe we should get rid of our national anthem, but I think we should have one national anthem.
I think when you go down a road where you're having two different national anthems, colleges sometimes now have, many of them, have different graduation ceremonies for black and white, separate dorms.
This is what I mean, segregation.
You've inverted the idea.
We're going back to that under a different name.
Almost word for word what I've been saying to you for years.
So, on the day that a person of the left awakens, you wonder where it will lead.
With Barry Weiss from the New York Times where she quit, would you say that Barry Weiss...
What would Barry Weiss say?
I mean, I've spent a lot of time with her, but I forgot to ask her.
Are you a conservative, Barry?
What would she say?
She wouldn't say she's a conservative.
She'd say she's a liberal protecting liberalism, which is fine with me, by the way.
I don't care if you call yourself a liberal.
I care what you stand for.
I care if you hate the left.
If you know the left is a lethal threat to all that is good...
I don't care if you call yourself liberal or conservative.
In fact, you're not a liberal if you're not anti-left.
As you just heard now.
If you're for racial segregation, you're not a liberal.
Yes, making kids hyper-aware.
That's exactly right.
Think in terms of race, kids.
It's a beautiful way to raise them.
Professor.

A new professor example?
Did you put it up?
Yeah.

People grow up.
People.
Apologize to students of racial minorities for being white.
Huh.
Oh, it's a woman.
Shocking.
A disproportionate number of women in academia are ruining this country.
Now, that'll be called misogynist, but if you say how bad men are, that's perfectly fine.
It's precisely because I don't care about the sex of a human being when I assess them that I feel perfectly free to say a disproportionate number of leftists in academia are female.
So that's why I said I'm not shocked.

Okay, so this is what this female professor at the Virginia Tech wrote to her students.
I am a Caucasian cisgender female and first-generation college student from Appalachia who was of Scottish, British, and Norwegian heritage.
I am married to a cisgender male, and we are middle class.
While I did not, quote, ask, unquote, for the many privileges in my life, I have benefited from them.
Growing up in Appalachia, you were really privileged.
I mean, that's like the definition of privilege.
And will continue to benefit from them, whether I like it or not.
How come there are so many whites killing themselves?
How many so many whites are on drugs?
How come so many whites are unhappy?
With all this privilege, it's mind-boggling.
How come there were so many successful minorities?
It's a gigantic lie, this white privilege thing.
It's a gigantic lie.
Another one.
At the end of her statement, Duncan Lane apologizes to students for the, quote, inexcusable horrors within our shared history.
Well, wait a minute.
How long is her history in the United States?
Does she mention it?
This is an injustice.
I am and I will continue to work on a daily basis to be anti-racist and confront the innate racism within myself.
That is the reality and history of white people.
Duncan Lane writes in the syllabus.
I want to be better.
It's a religion.
It's a cult.
This is all cult talk.
I will be better.
I will be better.
Every day, I will transform.
Every day, this work terrifies me.
Every day, I invite my white students to join me on this journey.
And to my students of color, I apologize for the inexcusable horrors within our shared history.

What's your advice to the Pentagon, Senator, on how to respond to the queries, which will never stop until we have a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute timeline and documents supporting a decision tree here?
Well, that's sound advice not only to the Pentagon, but to anyone in the administration.

My column this week is why freedom is in serious danger.
Is it serious?
What was the word I used?
Yeah, serious jeopardy.
Sorry.
Why freedom is in serious jeopardy.
My friends, I promise you.
Before I tell you what I promise you, I want you to understand something.
I almost never make predictions.
People ask me, who do I think will run?
Who do I think will win?
Who will get the majority in Congress?
I'm asked what I think about the future all the time.
People stop me in the street and ask me.
And I always tell them I'm not a prophet.
I only know what I need to do.
I don't know what will happen.
I govern my life by the question, What should I do?
It's a beautiful way to govern your life, in my opinion.
I'm a big believer in oughts and shoulds.
However, here is a certitude.
This is not the same as whom do I think will win.
This is a certitude.
If this is allowed to stand, that a President of the United States can tell businesses not to hire, or I should say, to fire people who are not getting a medicine, a vaccine in this case, I promise you this is the watershed moment in American history.
It will not stop.
The left never stops.
Because they don't even know what their end goal is.
They know that they want power over people.
That is why the proof is that Nancy Pelosi went to a hairdresser.
She didn't believe that there is a COVID danger in small businesses being open.
That's why she went unmasked to a hairstylist, to a salon.
That's why Newsom, Gavin Newsom, went unmasked and had dinner.
The most expensive restaurant I know of in California.
But it doesn't matter if it would have been a subway.
The fact that it was that expensive is only proof of how wealthy he is and how wealthy his friends are.
He obviously didn't pay for it.
Of that I am certain.
This is the beginning of more and more government control.
Half this country is at peace with losing their liberty and mock those of us who speak about liberty.
These people want freedom more than, they care about freedom more than life itself.
By the way, that's true.
I do.
I admit it.
Give me liberty or give me death does in fact resonate with me.
That is correct.
Even if you had COVID, you must take a vaccine.
But you are far more immune to the virus than the people who got the vaccine who didn't have COVID. You're young and you must take the vaccine or you will lose your job when young people die more of other things, many other things, than of COVID. And people are okay with it?
Tucker Carlson played...
Oh, you know what, Sean?
Fine.
Tucker Carlson last night, in the first segment, had a series of clips from the left-wing media about people advocating that it also be a ban on travel.
That people not allowed to go on planes or trains.
Or interstate buses.
I don't know why interstate buses are okay.
That's the next advocacy.
You don't think that happens next.
It's happened in Canada.
Yep.
Our freedom contempt, our contempt for freedom neighbor to the north.
People are okay with it.
You can't fly in Canada if you're not vaccinated.
I presume that's true in Australia and New Zealand.
In Australia, you can't leave your house.
You can go up to three miles, I believe it is, for a limited period of time, and they check on you.
And if you meet with others, you're arrested.
See the video of the kids who had gotten together at some beach?
A small group.
Helicopters.
With their lights shining on them.
Arrested them.
There's always a worthy cause for the suppression of liberty.
Nobody ever suppresses liberty in the name of suppressing liberty.
You think the communists did that?
The Nazis did that?
The fascists did that?
Everybody who suppresses liberty has some great cause.
They never do it in the name of suppression of liberty.
This mandate thing is the beginning, my friends, of the end of liberty in this country.
Half the country is okay with that.
The utter abject failure of parents and teachers to teach liberty is astonishing.
For the record, that's why PragerU exists.
To teach liberty.
To teach liberty in God we trust and E Pluribus Unum, the American Trinity, to be precise.
Notice, by the way, that as America got less religious, it got less free.
You think that's a coincidence?
It isn't.
It isn't.

When I heard this last night, I thought, so what?
Who's getting COVID and dying from an airplane trip?
This is a made-up, power-hungry lie.
There is no danger in flying.
The air is purer than the outside air.
That's why people eat without a mask.
Did you hear of anybody contracting COVID and dying after an airplane trip?
No, nobody.
Millions have flown.
There's a made-up lie of people on the left.
They live to have power over you.
It's orgasmic for these people.
I truly believe it.
I mean that literally.
I think that the thrill of power over people rivals the sexual act.
That is how powerful it is on the left.
Power over people is an adrenaline rush for people on the left.
There is no danger in the airplane.
They make it up.
But a repeated lie works.
Goebbels was right.
We're living it.
Go on.
And it's a privilege to travel.
It's a privilege.
Oh, it's a privilege.
This is a new thing.
Right?
It's not a right to travel.
It's exactly what they said in the Soviet Union.
It's a privilege to travel.
Everything is a privilege in the totalitarian mind.
Everything!
It's a privilege to eat in a restaurant.
It is a privilege to go outside and talk to neighbors in Australia.

Now, some people, this is how dishonest the media is, they say, well, Israel in the last couple days, they've seen their rates go down.
Now, why do you think that COVID rates would be going down in Israel the last couple days?
Anybody?
Is it because of the vaccine?
Masks?
No.
It's because of the high holidays, okay?
People are staying at home and they're not going out and they're not working and they're not congregating.
So they've locked down the country through basically pseudo-religious mandate.
Israel and Sweden, if you look at the seven-day rolling average of new cases per 100,000, Sweden, on this chart that has been published, is right around 10%.
Israel has far exceeded 100%, and in fact, there are more cases right now happening in America and the Western world than there were a year ago.
And a very basic question should be, is the vaccine helping or is it hurting?
What's the answer to that question?
Why is it that rates keep on going up the more vaccinated we are?
Well, Israel is the only country in the world that gives the third vaccination to everyone at ages 12 plus.
A COVID passport is required for 12 plus.
And by the way, let me just say, I'm a very, I'm a lover of Israel and Jerusalem.

Do you believe that?
If a guy has men that he loves, he's an outlier.
That most men do not have that.
We should raise that.
Because if you're a guy and you don't have at least one man in your life that you love, it's terrible.
It's just terrible.
Yeah, we should do that.
Should we do that on a happiness hour?

And the other thing is, and the pilots, for the most part, will not wear a mask in the cockpit.
Yes, I raised this.
Bless you, Crystal.
I said I was willing to bet anything the pilots take their masks off when they fly.
And here's the other one, Crystal.
I said...
What would passengers really, really like?
Their pilots to have their nose and mouth covered for six hours or not?
Yes.
Well, the reason why I know this is because when they take bathroom breaks, one of us has to go in the cockpit while the other comes out to use the bathroom.
And I asked one of them, and they said, well...
If something happens, we have a decompression, we have to be able to put that oxygen mask on quickly.
And if we have to take our masks off first...
Yeah, take a good three seconds.
Yeah, I think that's hilarious, to be honest.
This is what is known among Jews as a Bubba Misa.

Correct.
The other thing is, I am a widow with a 10-year-old son.
And two years ago, when all this COVID started, And they started saying that, oh, we're going to have the kids go remote.
And I don't work from home, and I don't have a husband.

I don't care what your religion, the issue of a school is not its theology, it's its values.
Yes.

He was 56. I had my child at 48 years old, so I'm actually an older mother.
And my husband and I got married for the first time at 46 and 47, and he said, I want to have a baby.
And I said, are you crazy?
I'm too old to have a baby.
And it happened for us.
God bless us and we had a beautiful healthy son and unfortunately my husband he worked out at the gym 56 great shape no gut dropped dead of a heart attack in the middle of the night oh my god I just wanted to know because I wanted to just embrace you, as it were.

The caller in the last hour said, where's Kamala?
Kamala is doing her best to stay clear of Joe Biden.
I mean, her polls stink, but combined, both of them combined, I guess it's extra stinky together, because both of them stink.
And the funny thing is, her polls are worse than his, and she wants to be nowhere near this cat.
People are finding out that this Build Back Better thing is a socialist agenda, and the $3.5 trillion partisan wish list that the Democrats are wanting is starting to turn people off because people are starting to realize that the economic pain is going to be felt at home.
Average, everyday Americans sitting around their dinner table are going to feel that pain.
Overall, the poll found that Biden's net approval average is negative seven.
That means 44% are approving of his job as the president and 51% disapprove.
So this is a major slide.
A generic Republican on the ballot at this time would lead in all seven districts going up against the Democrat incumbents by six percentage points on average.
So Carl, the elections are so far away.
Why are you worried about this or why are you talking about this now?
Polls don't matter.
Polls do matter to Democrats.
Unfortunately, I feel like Republicans are starting to do the same.
Republicans have an opportunity of a lifetime, in my opinion, to kick Biden while he's down.

I haven't seen you in a while.
How was the big town hall L.A.? That was a big success, as you would imagine.
I haven't seen you in so long because you moved to the East Coast.
I did.
I did.
I left California.
I come back in January to teach at Chapman Law School, but I've been in California and interrupted in D.C. for a year and a half.
And it's a dreadful year and a half to have been in D.C. In fact, if you're watching it all on the TV and you're back, We're fixed right now on Ted Cruz flaying Tony Blinken for the collapse of Afghanistan and the variety of horrors associated with that.
It's just been a terrible time to be in D.C. From the insurrection on January 6th to the loss last November.
You called it an insurrection?
Yeah, but it was by 800 people.
I'm very careful to point out the grand total of 800 people.
It's not 5,000 people.
It's not countrywide.
It wasn't going to succeed.
Trump did not incite it, but yeah, those 800 people, they had blood on their mind.
They were ready for anything, and I'm glad that Mike Pence escaped with his life because there were some crazy people in that group that would have killed him.
Really?
All right, anyway, I'm not going to dwell on that, but I just wanted to know.
I think that the left uses January 6th.
Is it 16th?
What is it?
6th.
January 6th.
Yeah, I think they use it the way the...
The fascists in Germany used the Reichstag fire.
Well, they do use it.
They overuse it.
They blame the wrong people.
I've had so many dinners.
I like the Democratic friends where they try and bring it up.
I say, just stop.
There are 800 crazy people on the mall.
And every night in Oregon and Portland, you've got 800 crazy people.
You had thousands of crazy people burning down cities last year.
The left in the United States and the far right in the United States have an equal percentage of crazy people.
It's a bell curve.
And Dennis, I like to thank, though most people want to admit, you and I are in the middle of that bell curve.
In terms of the most sane people, we don't tip off of the left or the right side.
We are very objective people.
Though you are often wrong about sports because you don't care about it, and I don't know anything about classical music because I don't know anything about it.
Other than that, we're about perfect journalists.
Well, I want to talk to you about Nixon, but I don't think that the numbers are balanced.
I think there are more violent leftists, more leftists who threaten freedom than rightists.
No, we disagree about that.
I think about 1% of each of them.
A nation of 330 million people, there are 3 million people on the right who I don't want to live next door to, and there are 3 million people on the left that I don't want to live next door to.
But of those 3 million people, 10% are going to be...
Violent.
So I would guess somewhere around 300,000 violent people on both sides.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
We differ.
It doesn't matter.
Let's talk about Nixon.
Because you gave a very important series of videos for PragerU on Nixon.
What gives you expertise about Richard Nixon?
Well, I began my first meeting with him in 1978. So I went to work for him right out of college.
I left Harvard, drove across the country, and went to San Clemente to work for David Eisenhower three months later.
I was spending every day with Richard Nixon because I went over to work with him on a book.
So for two years, I spent hours every day with him on first The Real War and then Leaders.
And I moved to New York with him, and I worked on his staff in New York.
So San Clemente did New York.
Then I went to law school in D.C. Then I went back to work for him, 89, 90, and 91, to build his library, which is now in Yorba Linda.
People should go there today if they've got nothing else to do.
And then I returned two years ago to take over the foundation that now runs the library that we built 30 years ago.
So my entire life has been sort of interwoven with Nixon.
The Fetching Mrs. Hewitt and I would attend dates at the parties he threw, the astronaut party, the POW party.
If you can't get the girl, when you take her to San Clemente in 1978 to Casa Pacifica, you're kind of a loser.
So I had that going for me.
And the daughters are friends of mine.
Nixon World's a friend of mine.
I've read everything about Nixon.
So it's a personal relationship that began 40-plus years ago and continued to his death.
All right, hold it there.
Hold it there, Hugh.
Because we've got to take a break.
And I just want to remind everybody that this prairie video about Nixon is up this week with Hugh Hewitt.
This is an example of there is no political agenda, none whatsoever.
Many of our videos are just to inform.
Our goal is you will be able to watch all PragerU videos and not go to college and learn ten times more.
Just for the record.

What's your advice to the Pentagon, Senator, on how to respond to the queries, which will never stop until we have a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute timeline and documents supporting a decision tree here?

What does Byron York think?
Well, I think that Americans' feelings about U.S. citizens being left behind in Afghanistan, I think those feelings are essentially folded in.
To the poll numbers that you're seeing Biden's approval rating for his handling of the situation in Afghanistan, which are in the 20s.
I mean, those are Nixon and Watergate poll numbers.
So I do think that Americans are aware of that.
Now, a couple of things about Biden changing the subject.
Of course he wants to change the subject.
answers will a lot of the press question is what will allow the press

I was telling Rod Dreher to sign it to me.
He's coming on next hour.
But I have Hugh Hewitt now, and he has a great second...
Is this the second one, Hugh, on Nixon?
You have Rod Dreher coming on?
Yes, I do.
I'm very jealous.
Rod is a brilliant guy.
About your search engine, Dennis, if people go to it...
And put in Mary Poppins.
Will they get the clip of you playing at Chimney Suite in Mary Poppins when you were in junior high?
Ladies and gentlemen, I bring out things in Hugh Hewitt that no one on earth brings out.
I just want to know that full disclosure.
That's all.
I want you to know that Hugh Hewitt announced once that I had given up cigars and had taken up, what was the candy bar?
There was a certain candy bar you said I took up.
You're a KitKat guy, and I don't agree.
So there's a gigantic box of KitKats awaiting me at a speech in Philadelphia, which has still not been eaten.
But anyway, Richard Nixon.
So here's my issue with regard to Richard Nixon that I'd love you to respond to.
Outside of anti-communism, which I do believe he really was an anti-communist, to his credit, would you characterize him as liberal, conservative, or a mixed bag?
Machiavellian.
He's a strategist, a political strategist, who only wanted to be in the office in order to rearrange the world so that it would increase the chances of the United States enduring.
And I believe that in 1960, and I believe that in 1968, he ran without much of a domestic agenda, except an array around himself, really smart people like Daniel Patrick Moynihan and George Shultz, to bring a Kissinger in who worked for Rockefeller, to staff the smartest people everywhere and let them do their stuff, but mostly to get us out of Vietnam, to reestablish a relationship with China in order to play the China card against Russia.
To support, as he did Israel, the Yom Kippur War, send everything that can fly.
He saved Israel.
And when he signed a domestic law like Title IX, we just celebrated the 50th anniversary of Title IX, and we will next year, 50th anniversary next year, all of his environmental legislation, which is the most accomplished environmental president, desegregating the schools for Supreme Court justices, all that stuff was secondary to he had a strategic vision for the world.
I would hope it would be the strategic vision for every Republican or Democrat, which is to be a Machiavellian about the world and making America survive.
It's kind of the way Israeli Prime Ministers have got to be.
They're surrounded by enemies.
The United States has enemies everywhere in the world.
And you've got to really keep your eye on the ball.
He's sort of the opposite of Biden.
He's a genius who got everything right in international affairs, as opposed to a bubbler who gets everything wrong.
Surround himself with brilliant people as opposed to third-raders.
There is so much about Nixon most people don't know.
That's why I love the Prager University video.
You made me do it in five minutes, and may I make a pitch for Dennis Prager?
I give Dennis a hard time.
But he has a legacy no other radio host will ever have, or journalist, which is Prager University will last for a hundred years, and people will continue to contribute to it, and people ought to write you a check right now.
Tax-deductible.
He did not ask me to say this.
I say it whenever I can.
Send him $500,000.
Send him a million dollars.
They have built an engine of excellence for young Americans so they are not brainwashed by the collapsing school system we find all around us.
And it will endure 100 years.
How's that, Dennis?
Now do I get to see the Mary Poppins video?
I must say I'm very moved, to be honest.
This came out of nowhere, as it were.
And I thank you for it.
I hope you're right, and I think you're right.
And I thank you for this.
I run a library.
I run a Nixon library where people come in, and they have to drive to it, and they learn stuff that they don't know about Nixon.
We have done more with two Prager University videos to educate people about Nixon than I have done in 30 years with the library.
More in two Prager videos.
Millions of views.
Than I've done in 30 years.
How is that possible?
You did it.
I don't know.
I think Alan did it.
Susan did it, is what I'm going to put it down.
I'm not going to compliment you too much.
But I'm going to say it's an amazing thing.
Well, it means a great deal.
I have a challenging question for you.
You wrote a book, and I always have you on when you write a book, even when you don't write a book.
But you wrote a book.
If it isn't close, they can't cheat.
Right.
Do you still hold that view?
Yep.
If it's not close, they can't cheat.
I'm afraid of new technologies arising that are incipient, are not yet deployed, that are coming.

Where offshore entities will be able to manipulate our systems.
And so we have to continually refine our systems and break them down and disaggregate them.
Why did we stop having paper ballots that you marked?
Why is that not the safest system?
It is the safest system.
We were confused by the idea that it would be easier and more fun to count ballots quickly.
It never works that way.
We have paper ballots and we send them out.
We have got to go to the Israeli system, Dennis, and you probably know this.
You have to go home.
You have to go, like, Jesus to Bethlehem to register, or Mary and Joseph to register for the birth of their son.
You have to have a census.
You've got to go home in Israel.
And then you have to vote in person.
And you don't get to vote by absentee unless, you know, you're laid up with, you know, a life-threatening recovering surgery in the hospital.
You've got to go vote at that precinct.
We've got to do that.
And they vote on one day.
They stop everything for one day to vote.
We need to do that.
That is so true.
Okay, my friend.
It was great to talk to you.
Well, but you didn't...
The Mary Poppins video.

I think singing Chim Chimney, you must have been great.

The caller in the last hour said, where's Kamala?
Kamala is doing her best to stay clear of Joe Biden.
I mean, her polls stink, but combined, both of them combined, I guess it's extra stinky together, because both of them stink.
And the funny thing is, her polls are worse than his, and she wants to be nowhere.
But people are finding out that this Build Back Better thing is a socialist agenda, and the $3.5 trillion partisan wish list that the Democrats are wanting is starting to turn people off because people are starting to realize that the economic pain is going to be felt at home.

I made that clear.
I want you to understand my approach to these matters.
Hugh Hewitt understands the threat of the left.
That we differ on A, B, or C, or D is important, but not that important.
We have to align with everyone who recognizes the left as a threat.
If the person differs with me on 15 issues, I don't care, because that is the overriding issue.
And when I hear people say, oh, so-and-so, like a Republican candidate, a Republican congressman, a Republican senator, oh, so-and-so is, and then they will fill in...
The position of that person with which they differ.
So they rule them out.
And that is how the left wins.
Because there are too many people on the right who if you don't agree with, if that person is not someone you agree with entirely, you dismiss them.
Every anti-leftist is my ally.
Okay?
Bill Maher is now my ally.
I differ with him on almost everything.
He is my ally.
He understands the left is a lethal threat to liberty on earth.
That's all you need to know.
Okay?
When we fought the Nazis, that's all that mattered.
When we fought the Communists, that's all that mattered.
When we fought the Fascists, that's all that mattered.
I didn't care what your position was on taxation or even abortion.
And I did a pretty powerful video on abortion for PragerU.
Take a look.
But if that is what you are going to do, dismiss someone because they took a position that you differed with and you dismissed that Republican, it is over.
The left wins.
People need clarity.
That's my greatest desire in life, is to achieve clarity.
And I have.
And I am clear.
The greatest threat...
On Earth at this time, aside from Islamic terror and the Chinese government, is the left.
And the greatest threat within the West is the left.
They are destroying the greatest civilization ever made.
And if you are going to dismiss a Republican or even a Democrat who is anti-left because you differ with them on ten different issues, you don't have it clear.
The left is the issue.

It's very significant.
And even though this was simply a denial of an emergency application to stay the law, it shows that the Supreme Court is no longer reflexively protecting abortion as a so-called right.

*music* *music* Hi...
Hi everybody!
This is Dennis Prager.
The Ultimate Issues Hour is the third hour every Tuesday.
And on rare occasions, to give you an idea of how much I value the individual I am about to introduce, I have a guest for the Ultimate Issues Hour.
Someone who thinks about the great issues of life and has thought through it, written about it, lectured about it, and in this case, he meets all the criteria.
And that is Rod Dreher, D-R-E, D as in David, R-E-H-E-R, editor of the American Conservative and author of the best-selling book, Live Not by Lies.
Rod and I last saw each other in Budapest a month ago.
And we had similar reactions.
And I want to talk to you folks about that because...
There are ultimate issues involved in Eastern Europe right now, as I have said when I came back from Romania three years ago, speaking there.
If there is hope for Western Europe, the hope, in my opinion, comes from Eastern Europe.
Let me give you two other analogies about what you might not expect in life.
If there is hope for Christianity in the world, I think it resides in Africa.
With African Christendom.
And if there is hope for the United States, it resides in the South of the United States.
As I have said, for at least 20 years, the North saved the Union in the 19th century, and the South will save it in the 21st.
Ironically, Rodreira lives in the South, in Louisiana.
Not many people from Baton Rouge in Budapest at any given time, but...
He just came back.
The New Yorker has a piece about him.
Is it today?
It came out last night.
Yeah, boy, that was perfect.
They asked me, when is he coming on your show?
And I told them, and here it is.
What American conservatives see in Hungary's leader.
For Rod Dreher and others, the country under Viktor Orban has become a dark mirror for the U.S. culture wars.
I don't know what dark mirror is.
Their dark mirror.
Yeah, it's always dark for them.
Yes, well, it's bright when they're in control.
Anyway, Rod, welcome back.
When did you come back from Hungary?
I got back about a month ago, but then had to rush back to Europe to do a book tour in Italy for Live Not By Lies.
And I got to tell you, Dennis, it's amazing to see how European conservatives are waking up to the threat from American wokeness.
It's incredible because, as you know, when you travel abroad, you see the width and the breadth and the depth of American popular culture and what it's doing to the rest of the world.
Everywhere I went in Italy, I talked to people, ordinary people, not think tankers, professional conservatives and journalists, but ordinary people who are so angry at America for the things that are coming at them from our woke establishment.
Even the French.
Even the French.
Yes, even Macron.
Didn't he say something about that?
I mean, I couldn't believe it.
Yeah, yeah.
He said that if we accept wokeness here in France, it's going to destroy us.
And he's right about that.
When I was in Hungary for a very brief jaunt on this latest trip to Italy, and I spoke to a woman, a woman about my age, mid-50s, who said that her 19-year-old son will only listen and watch English-language media.
And his head is filled with wokeness.
He asked his mother, Mom, did you ever kiss a girl?
She nearly slapped him.
him.
Wow.
Yeah.
And he said, "Oh, Mom, don't be upset that all of my friends, we're all experimenting.
Now, this is Hungary.
This isn't New York.
This isn't London." Oh, my God.
Yeah.
And even in a country like Hungary where they have a strong leader who's doing his best, the power of American popular culture is even corrupting the earth.
That son should watch PragerU videos instead.
Tell the mother.
There's an alternative in English.
I asked you during the break, and for my listeners' benefit, I try not to talk about what I'm going to talk about on the air.
With a guest prior to, because I wanted to all be spontaneous, but I couldn't resist.
And I asked you, where do you feel freer, in Hungary or the United States?
And you answered?
Hungary, without question.
I didn't pursue, now I'm going to pursue.
I felt the same thing.
It is almost impossible for me to overstate how sad I am to give that answer.
Have you told me at any time in my life I would feel freer in Hungary than in America?
I would have thought you were out of your mind.
Why did you answer Hungary?
Because wokeness is not in power there.
Because the institutions of that country have not been corrupted by this soft totalitarianism of the left.
I'll give you an example.
When I was over there, I asked the people at the Danube Institute where I was working, can you hook me up with someone from the anti-Orban left-wing opposition?
Somebody responsible I could talk to because I wanted to get their side of things.
They sent me to a professor named Peter Krakow.
Peter and I sat down in his office at the university where he teaches, and he told me he was against Orban because of corruption, because he's in favor of gay marriage, and Orban is not.
He said, but I'm not sure how I feel about transgenderism.
I don't follow that logic.
And then we went on to talk about other things.
At the end of our interview, Dennis, Krako looked at me and said, but you know, at the end of the day, I can stand in my classroom here in Budapest and say whatever I want, and nobody from the state will bother me.
I said, Professor, that's really interesting, because if you were in America, even as a leftist, and you said what you said at the start of our interview, that you agreed with gay marriage, but you weren't sure about the logic of transgenderism, you would be assaulted by your students.
They would demand your firing.
Your university would probably fire you, and you may never work again.
So who's more free, Professor, you here as a liberal in Orbán's Hungary or your liberal counterpart in the United States who doesn't toe the line?
Perfect example.
By the way, the strength of any position is giving examples, so you're the perfect guest.
That example is exactly right.
You can say anything you want about Orban.
You're not going to be arrested, you're not going to be fired, but you can say anything you want about Biden and not lose your job in many cases.
As we gave the example, and I'll say it again, it was a video company, what was it, a game company?
Yeah.
A major game company, I don't remember the name, we'll look it up.
This happened last week.
The CEO came out as pro-life.
He was fired.
I don't think that would happen in Hungary.
If you said you were pro-choice in Orbán's Hungary...
And you were CEO of a major company, I don't think that you would be fired.
Of course you wouldn't.
I mean, this is the lie the left tells about Hungary.
They keep saying in their reporting on it, in the Atlantic and elsewhere, that it is an authoritarian, dark place where people are persecuting for their political views.
It's just not true.
It took me about 10 days over there.
Wait, are you charging the left with lying?
You know, Dennis, I'm afraid I am.
But look, this is why when I got over there, it just stunned me to see after about 10 days that 90% of the narrative in the American media about Hungary is a lie.
I texted my friend Tucker Carlson.
I said, Tucker, you've got to get over here because everything that the left tells us and the American media tells us about Hungary is not true.
You should come over here and show your viewers what Hungary is actually like.
And he did.
That's right, he did.
He spoke on Saturday, I spoke on Friday at the same conference.
Who were the people who brought us in?
Well, for me, it was the Danube Institute, a think tank, funded by the government, but they brought me in and said, you can do what you want, we'll introduce you to whoever you want to, just write what you want.
There are no requirements.
I think in your case it was MCC, the Matias Corvinas Collegium.
Right, that's what I didn't...
Master of the Hungarian.
Go ahead.
Yeah, and they are a...
Well, actually, that's Latin.
Right?
Right, right, right.
But Matthias Corvinus was a great medieval king in Hungary.
They're an educational institution that is trying to build some kind of resistance to the overwhelming domination, even in Hungary.
of educational institutions by the left.
Here's something interesting about MCC. There's a well-known American left-wing professor, I won't mention his name, who was invited to come to a fellowship there.
He texted me and said, listen, you know, I'm an atheist, I'm on the left, I've been invited to Hungary, what can you tell me?
I'm nervous about Hungary from what I read.
I said, Professor, you will be able in Hungary to have the kind of discussions at MCC that you cannot have on your campus in America because they value freedom of expression and they value open discourse.
Rod Dreher is my guest.
He's an author of Live Not By Lies and editor of the American Conservative.
We were together in Hungary last month.
Hungary is freer than America.
It's hard to believe.
Which is abandoning our secure airbase with a significant perimeter to protect against the exact kind of suicide bombing that claimed 13 American lives.
Now I know an individual in General Milley's circle.
What's your advice to the Pentagon, Senator, on how to respond to the queries, which will never stop until we have a day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute timeline and documents supporting a decision tree here?
Well, that's sound advice not only to the Pentagon, but to anyone in the administration.

What does Byron York think?
Well, I think that Americans' feelings about U.S. citizens being left behind in Afghanistan, I think those feelings are essentially folded in.
To the poll numbers that you're seeing, Biden's approval rating for his handling of the situation in Afghanistan, which are in the 20s.
I mean, those are Nixon and Watergate poll numbers.
So I do think that Americans are aware of that.
Now, a couple of things about Biden changing the subject.
Of course he wants to change the subject.
The answer is, the question is, will a lot of the press go along with it?
If you look at Politico's playbook this morning, let me just...
Tiny, tiny little mention of Afghanistan, much more on the Biden agenda.
On the other hand, Senator Blumenthal yesterday afternoon posted a thread on Twitter.
My staff and I have worked night and day to secure the safe passage of two planes waiting in Mazar-e-Sharif to take American citizens at-risk Afghan allies and their families to safety.
My office joined forces in this humanitarian mission with an incredible coalition of advocates, NGOs, former servicemen, and journalists to try to evacuate our fellow citizens and Afghan allies.
By the way, NGOs, former service members, and journalists.
Anybody missing from that list?
State Department and Pentagon, yep.
Exactly.
So anyway, he goes on.
And so this is, as you point out, a Democratic senator, which may be necessary.
to give this issue enough credibility for some members of the press to pay attention.

My guest is an important modern thinker, Rod Dreher, D-R-E-H-E-R. I had him on for his book when it came out, Live Not by Lies.
Very important book.
And we met in Hungary when I was speaking there, and he was there for Hungarian Institute to speak as well and to study just last month.
Weren't you...
As excited as my wife and I were at all these terrific young people?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, it's amazing.
I tend to be really...
I don't know if cynical is the right word, Dennis, but I tend to be...
Depressed when I look at what's happening in our own country and the way we're poisoning the minds of the young.
And so many of them seem to be going along with it.
But there in Hungary, I met young people who had not lost their hope.
From a lot of countries.
From a lot of countries, yeah.
And I find this all over Europe, you know.
We can't say that just the people we meet are representative of everybody, but for me as an American to go to Europe, and I had all the old stereotypes about Europe as decadent and wasted and faithless, but I meet young people who are the future.
If they can get into positions of power and influence, and it might not happen in their generation, but they are the seeds of hope for rebirth of that continent, and I think of Western civilization.
What do you think of my theory, and I always tell guests it's a perfectly okay thing to differ with me, but what did you think of my theory that Eastern Europe will save Western Europe?
You know, I think you're right, and this is something that I became convinced of as I was researching my book, Live Not By Lies.
For those who didn't listen to your earlier show, It's a book based on things that people in our country, in the United States, who immigrated from the communist countries of Eastern Europe, were telling me about how the things they see happening in America today remind them of what they ran away from.
So I wrote about their analysis, but I also went to the former communist countries of Eastern Europe and to Russia to interview dissidents who stayed behind and who resisted communism.
And I just asked them plainly, what can you tell us?
What do we in the West need to know about how to resist wokeness and the soft totalitarianism that we already see starting and that I think is going to get worse?
And I just turn my tape recorder on and let them talk.
And that's what the book is about.
What's interesting about it, Dennis, is that they all agreed that the main thing that we have to do now...
There are two things.
First of all, we have to start forming small groups and networks of groups of people who see what's happening and can reinforce each other by doing simple things like the Hillsdale curriculum you talked about earlier.
Teaching ourselves and our youth what the true history is.
But more important than that, they said we have to learn how to suffer again.
We have to learn the meaning of suffering, that when we suffer for the truth, that God will use it in some mysterious way to redeem the world.
But if we're not prepared to suffer for the truth and for our faith, we're lost, they said.
Well, that answers one of the most frequently asked questions I receive.
Dennis, the first one is, and they're related, what do I tell my son or daughter at college?
If they write what they believe, they'll get a bad grade.
So this has been my answer, and then I want to give you the other question.
But my answer to that, the first time it was asked of me, and I've kept the same answer.
I would say to my child, I'm not telling you what to say to yours.
I can't.
But I would say to my child, if you compromise on what you believe at 20, when will you stop?
That's been my answer to the question, should my kid say what they believe and get it worse grade, lower grade?
The other question, completely related, Dennis, if I post, let's say, a PragerU video on my Facebook page, I will be, So my answer to that one is, that's correct.
So you mentioned, suffering is inevitable for those who fight for what is good.
I'd like to, I want to develop that in a moment.
I hadn't thought of it that way.
That is a very powerful, and it's a very Christian answer, and you're a very Christian man.
But the other is, Purely non-theological and non-suffering grounds, you'll also gain friends.
When you come out of the closet, good folks will know who you are.
Amen.
Amen.
And I can give you a story about a non-Christian, a non-Jew, a non-believer, Vaclav Havel, the first president of a free Czechoslovakia.
He was a political prisoner for many years because he resisted communism.
Havel wrote an essay in 1977 called The Power of the Powerless.
And in that essay, he came up with a parable.
He invented the parable of the green grocer.
He said, imagine that you have a green grocer in a communist city who, like all the other business owners in this city, puts a sign up in his shop window that says, Workers of the World Unite, you know, the communist slogan.
None of them believe it, but they put it up in their window to avoid trouble.
Well, what happens, said Havel, when the green grocer takes the sign down one day because he doesn't want to live that lie?
He wants to live in truth.
Well, they take his business away.
He has to go take a lesser job.
His kids lose privileges, etc., etc.
He really has to suffer for the truth.
But what has he gained?
he has shown that it is possible to live in the truth if you're willing to suffer for it.
And by his moral example, he shows others that it's possible to be courageous and that in time they will overthrow the dictatorship of lies.
That is your secular answer for why it's important to suffer even if you don't have a theological perspective.
Because if no one's prepared to suffer, we lose freedom.
That's right.
Period.
We lose our civilization.
It's a very important point.
Rod Dreher is my guest.

And especially in the youth, in the under 30s, who understand, they follow the science, they understand that this is a human being inside a mother's womb.
I don't want to get carried away with myself, but how important...
You are.
You've taught constitutional law.
You're a practicing lawyer.
How important...
How significant is the SCOTUS decision and the signing into effect of the new heartbeat law in Texas?
It's very significant.
And even though this was simply a denial of an emergency application to stay the law, it shows that the Supreme Court is no longer reflexively protecting abortion as a so-called right.
And that's what is the most important part of this decision.
The Supreme Court said that they were not ruling on the merits of the issue.
Of course, it will be litigated.
But what they're saying here is that no longer will an activist majority simply say, sorry states, you don't have a compelling interest to protect unborn life.
And so for all of us who understand actual science and who have seen the science, who see the strides that we have made and showing how heart beats.

My wife and I have IM'd for every single show for the last 17 years.
She wants to know how that liberal professor in Hungary responded to you when you said, apparently, that you couldn't do this in America.
Did he have any response?
You know, I don't recall that he did, but he did tell me that he's beginning to hear from his colleagues in America, his liberal colleagues, that things are getting bad in America.
But, you know, I appeared with this same professor at the festival you and I were both at in Estregom in Hungary, and I realized the more we talked about it on stage that he, like so many Europeans, simply don't understand how bad it is in the United States.
Liberals don't, in general, understand how bad leftism is until they're sent to the gulag.
Exactly.
And even then, you know, that was my field of study communism, which is astonishing to me.
It's almost divinely ordained that I would choose the most unheard of major, communist affairs.
Nobody majored in that.
And it turned out to be the most valuable thing I could study.
Men were tortured to death in Soviet prisons.
You know what?
Almost to a person, do you know what they said?
Oh, if only Comrade Stalin knew what they were doing, this wouldn't be happening.
Yeah, and do you know Solzhenitsyn wrote in the Gulag Archipelago, he said, talking about the tortures the Bolsheviks instituted, he said, if you'd gone back in Russia to the 1890s and talked to Chekhov and all these liberal intellectuals and told them that within 30 years medieval tortures would be brought back to Russia, they wouldn't have believed you.
They could not have imagined it.
It was bad under the czar, but it was paradise compared to what it was under the Soviets, and including culturally.
I mean, what – it's the same with the left in the United States.
The culture, getting away from the moral issues, just the cultural ones, the killing of the arts that is taking place and has been since World War II. Yeah, there's Philip Reif.
I don't know if you know his work.
The great Jewish thinker, secular Jewish thinker.
He called these death works.
He was not a religious man, but he said that the art that has become dominant...
I love it.
I love it.
I did not know that.
Yeah, yeah.
He said the art that's become dominant in the West...
Deuteronomy.
And I have put before you today life and death, and you shall choose life.
It is...
Become, to me, one of the ten most important verses in the Bible.
It's a death cult, the left.
Yeah, we choose death in our art.
Just this week, I don't know if you saw the video Music Awards, I don't watch that, but I did see that the video of the year was won by a rapper named Lil Nas X, whose video showed him being sodomized by Satan.
And this is the video of the year.
It's got almost four million.
The MTV? Yeah, yeah.
What have I said about MTV all of my career?
They have this special place in hell for MTV executives.
Now, I wrote on my blog that in Russia, in the early 20th century, Satan became a cult figure for the artistic class.
Not because they believed in the devil, but because they saw him as an example of human will triumphant, individual will.
This is the thing that preceded the revolution.
This kind of decadence.
And I think we're seeing that here, if you have eyes to see.
Well, is it preceding a revolution?
I don't know.
It's preceding a collapse.
That could presage a revolution.
We don't know.
So, I'm asked all the time, so Dennis, is there hope?
So, I'll tell you my famous joke about that.
Then I'll tell you what I really think.
So, in my 20s, I would visit Israel every year.
There was a rabbi who was, I was sort of his favorite young person.
I stayed at his home, Jerusalem.
And he told me a story one day, apropos of nothing.
He said, in the early days, you know, Israel was found a socialist country.
So, I went to the Ministry of Communications for a phone.
And I said, when's my phone arriving?
They said, six months from now.
So I said to the clerk, is there any hope I could get it sooner?
And Dennis, the clerk, responded, Sir, there's always hope.
There's no chance.
So I want to ask you about hope and chance with regard to America and the West generally.

Editor of the American Conservative.
And we last met last month in Hungary, where he was for a few months and I was for a few days.
Great days, I might add, as I told you when I got back.
So, Roger Ayer, by the way, on a list of kindred spirits, you know, one to ten, ten being a clone, and there is no such thing, I'd say we're about eight and a half, maybe nine.
I mean, I don't know where we would differ, actually, based on reading you and speaking to you.
And I just want to say to those of you listening, when you tell me how much it gives you strength when you hear me because I'm articulating things that you believe, that's the same thing happens to me when I meet people who articulate what I believe.
It's strengthening to me, so it is a joy to be with Roger Ayer.
By the way, there's a piece on him in The New Yorker today.
Which I have not yet read.
You just told me about it.
It's not a hit piece.
No, it's pretty fair.
I have to say, the writer, Ben Wallace Wells, told me in advance, he goes, look, I'm a liberal, but I'm going to treat you fairly.
And I think he did.
Good.
Well, I certainly want to read the piece, because I'm obviously so involved, you, Hungary, and America.
So, my theory, and then I want you to react, and again, I even welcome a different take.
My theory is that leftism is the substitute religion for the death of Christianity in the West.
That there is no such thing as people without religion.
They'll either have biblical religion or they'll have secular religion.
And that, in a nutshell, that's what I think leftism is.
Well, I couldn't have said it better myself.
You're exactly right.
In my book, Live Not By Lies, I talk about wokeness as a pseudo-religion, as a religion for people who will not have God, and so they have to create a sense of value themselves.
You know, when I was doing my research for the book, I ran across a quote by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the great anti-communist dissident, who said that when they first put him in the gulag, he heard...
Prisoners say the reason that this calamity befell Russia is because men had forgotten God.
That sounded trite to Solzhenitsyn, but he said the longer he spent in prison, the more he realized how true it was that the entire construct of Bolshevism, of Soviet communism, was a substitute religion for people who had forgotten the God of the Bible and was a substitute religion for people who had forgotten the God of the Bible and would not live by I think we're living through the same thing right now.
And if we on the right are trying to fight this fight from purely political means, we're going to lose.
This is ultimately a spiritual battle.
And I don't mean to conflate spirituality and religion with politics.
That can be really dangerous for both.
I support fighting wokeness and fighting the left because that's the only way to keep the institutions, the churches, the synagogues, the religious schools that do give us meaning, keep them free to do what they're supposed to do.
And this, Dennis...
It's why I have no trouble allying myself with people like Barry Weiss, a liberal gay Jew who is one of the bravest women in America today because she stands up against the woke.
I'm absolutely on her side, even though we would disagree with so many other things, because she knows that freedom is the most important thing, the freedom for us to do what we need to do in our own private lives.
Told you folks, nine.
The only way to be ten is basically to be me.
You know, none of us have cloned.
But we are so, it's so invigorating to hear this from you, and we come from such different backgrounds to the exact same conclusion.
I ended the last hour, and you were seated here, and you heard me.
I said, this is the issue, fighting the left.
I don't need to agree with you on a hundred other issues if you understand that the left is the lethal threat to the United States of America.
Then it doesn't matter to me, just like with Barry Weiss and you, and Barry Weiss and me for that matter.
Yeah, and us and Viktor Orban.
Look, there are things about Viktor Orban that I don't agree with.
Yes, exactly.
That's right.
That's right.
But that man understands at a level that even so many of our American conservative politicians don't understand, that we are in a civilizational...
How do you explain the never-Trumper conservative?
Well, look, I was not a Trump fan.
I was not a never-Trumper.
I was against them because they were defending a rotten establishment.
But I don't like Donald Trump.
I don't agree with a lot of what he has to say.
And my main critique of Trump is that he was not Viktor Orban, which is to say he was not focused and disciplined in his fighting.
That said, the idea that we could go back to what we had before Trump is just nuts.
I mean, I'll say this for Trump.
I'm grateful that he destroyed the Republican Party establishment because they only existed to ratify what the Democrats had decided they wanted five years earlier.
That's entirely correct.
Look, I was opposed to him while he was running for the nomination, and then the day he was nominated, I became pro him, and I would have been pro any other Republican.
Turns out, by the way, I probably think more highly of him as president.
I thought he did a great job.
When you analyze what he did, it is astonishing.
That he didn't do more is not my lament, because...
I don't even think he knew what a swamp Washington was.
I didn't know.
My contempt for the FBI, CIA, American Medical Association is brand new.
I didn't know how utterly corrupt they were.
Now I do.
And we're reading just today in the Washington Post that the top general, head of Joint Chiefs, Mark Milley, was so fearful Trump might spark a war with China that he called his Chinese counterpart to say, I'll give you a heads up if this is coming.
It's astonishing that the Washington Post even reported that.
I'll tell you why they reported it.
Why?
So you agree with me?
Okay.
Judge Thomas, you solemnly swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth to help you God.

Thank you.
Well, final segment here on the Ultimate Issues Hour with Rod Dreher, who, by the way, religiously is Christian, specifically Eastern Orthodox.
So you really traveled the route within Christianity, starting Presbyterian, correct?
Methodist.
Non-observant Methodist.
That's almost redundant, but not entirely.
It reminds me of the old joke about Unitarians.
They believe in at most one God.
The mainstream Protestant churches, like non-Orthodox Jewish synagogues, have adopted the New York Times over the Bible.
As a general rule, there are exceptions, but it's a tragedy.
So you then went to Catholicism and then went to Eastern Orthodoxy.
Yeah, I had a big conversion in my 20s when I discovered God, the God that I never knew existed.
And just because my family, we weren't really observant growing up, and I had a profound conversion to Catholicism.
I was a very faithful Catholic for 13 years, but then got caught up writing about the abuse scandal and had my faith just broken out of me.
God was good to me in that.
It was a severe mercy because my faith prior to that had been so intellectual, so in my head, and I was so intellectually arrogant that I didn't realize how lost I really was.
I washed up as a shipwreck in Eastern Orthodoxy, and I'm grateful to be Orthodox, but I'm a very different kind of religious believer now than I was back then.
Well, two religious believers sitting here understanding that the crisis of the West is fundamentally about that.
I said on the show today that I find with religious people, and you're definitely another example, I think religious people question their religiosity far more than secular people question their secularism.
I think you're right about that.
I mean, I go to confession in Orthodox Church.
As in Catholicism, we have confession.
And I have to think about it every week because I know how far I've sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
And I believe that my job is repentance, to live a holy life as best I can.
Well, perfect.
Yom Kippur is tomorrow night.
You are the perfect Christian introducer of Yom Kippur.
By the way, I'm conducting services again, folks.
If you'd like to see it live streamed, go to SalemNow.com.
I promise it will touch your life, whatever your faith.
Rod Dreher, you are a joy.
I'm glad we know each other.
Keep writing.
Keep fighting.
The West and God are worth it.
Thanks, my friend.
